This week on MYTH, it's the epic conclusion to the tale of the Mayan Hero Twins. You'll see that you should always be kind to orphans, that you shouldn't let dancers burn down your house, and that resurrection is tricky. Then, in Gods and Monsters, if you hear whistling from the woods, hide your thumbs. Source: Mayan Mythology
Welcome back to A Podcask of Amontillado, where we delve into the dark, dreadful, and terrifying parts of the world. The Creepy House. The Creepy Doll. The Creepy Guy Outside the Camp. All clichés, or in modern parlance, all tropes! Sometimes they're a useful tool, other times they're a shortcut that betrays a lack of imagination. But is that the fault of the trope, or the writer? In either case, what is it about them that we either despise, or love, about these tried and tested story devices? Listen in as Erin and Gary break Zack Parris from the Back Row Super Show out from behind the wall to discuss if they're accurate or why they're not, why writers keep using them, the Black Hole of the Internet's massive List of Horrror Tropes, trope vs genre, Who Dies First, crime thriller vs horror (again), jump scares, Horror Tropes: The Movie!, gratuitous tits, getting the hell out of the house, pleading for movies to stop over-explaining, how they gotta show the love, and how we love to sound smart. Planet LP host Ted Asregadoo and Popdose writer Keith Creighton are inching closer to the end of the year with the November New Music Report. This episode is jam-packed with some stellar music recommendations just in time for the holidays. Segment One: The Big Album It's Prince! Known at various times as The Purple One, Christopher, His Royal Badness, The Artist, or Jamie Starr, Prince was at the top of his game between 1980 and 1987 with an impressive music output that few in the music world could match. Why? Because of The Vault. A prolific writer, Prince vaulted roughly 8,000 songs. In 1991, after a series of lackluster albums, Prince released “Diamonds and Pearls” with his new backing band, the New Power Generation. The result was his fifth (and final) #1 hit in the US with “Cream,” a #3 hit with the title track, and two top 20 hits with “Gett Off” and Money Don't Matter 2 Night.” Overall, “Diamonds and Pearls” was an absolute commercial success for Prince. On October 27, 2023, Sony released a super deluxe version with three CDs of vaulted tracks, a double live album, a remaster of the original record, and a disc with singles and different mixes. That's a lot of music, and Ted and Keith break it all down into digestible bits to highlight what's brilliant about the super deluxe edition, what's good, and what misses the mark. Segment Two: New Music Releases The Transcanada Highwaymen's “Explosive Hits Vol #1 is mostly a carefully curated album of cover songs popular in the 1970s. These are Mellow and Radio Gold songs sung by a supergroup consisting of Moe Berry from The Pursuit of Happiness, Chris Murphy from Sloan, Craig Morthey from Odds, and Steven Page formerly of the Barenaked Ladies, but has gone on to a fantastic solo career. Featured songs include their cover of Andy Kim's “Rock Me Gently, and “Which Way You Goin' Billy” by The Poppy Family. Samples of both songs are embedded in this episode. Lol Tolhurst (former drummer from The Cure), Budgie (from Siouxsie & The Banshees), and producer Jackknife Lee have created a cinematic mindscrew of an album entitled “Los Angles.” Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark are back with what will likely be the final album of their career, and boy what a way to go out! Nowhere on the record are songs that sound like their biggest US hit, “If You Leave.” Rather, as Keith says, this is a soundtrack for the end of the world. Ted compares “Bauhaus Staircase” to Tears for Fears' “The Tipping Point” for its strength, its familiarity at times, and the satisfying way it's all put together. Duran Duran is back with Dance Macabre, a Halloween-theme mashup of covers, updated obscure deep cuts, and some originals. Also, guitarist Andy Taylor returns to the group, and so does the drummer of 17 years with the band, Warren Cuccrullo. If you want to go on a journey with a musician who is a bit of an acquired taste, give Christian Kjellvander a try. “Hold Your Love Still” may not be for everyone, but once you become familiar with Kjellvander's voice, you'll find this record mesmerizing — as you will hear. Nat Jay's latest EP, “Turns Out It's Not The End” is one of Keith's favorites this year. Comparing her to an outlier star to Taylor Swift's galaxy-consuming supernova, Jay's song “Something More” could have been included in the new Hunger Games soundtrack — and you'll be able to hear why. Shplang! has been on the music scene for almost three decades, and is part of the International Pop Overthrow scene. Their latest song, “Understood” is featured in this episode. Segment Three: Stream It Before You Buy It Quick hit recommendations. "Pretty Vicious" by The Struts “Telephone Line” by Juliana Hatfield “New Blue Sun” by Andre 3000 “Revisions of Truth” by One Square Mile “Chronicles of a Diamond” by Black Pumas “Can't Find The Brakes” by Dirty Honey “Purple Rain” by Dolly Parton “Harridan” (Live) by Porcupine Tree
Today's guest is Greydon Clark, a prolific director of low budget independent films for many decades. You can find lots of his films on Tubi, as well as on his website, where you can also get his autobiography, which I greatly enjoyed reading as preparation for this episode: http://greydonclark.com/ Powered by Firstory Hosting

Greetings, listeners! Dimetra is in peril! Lured into the dimly lit dance floor at The Lair, she's been pulled into a dreary dance to the music of goth-y synths. Can the rest of the Green Team find her amongst the swaying bodies and twinkling lights, or will they too be pulled into the dance? And what happens when the music stops and the lively crowd wants a quick drink before the next band, the (locally) legendary four-piece GemDragon? Find out in this thrilling episode that'll have you asking “who is Jim Dragon?” In this episode Quinn tries the empathy punch Matt has learned nothing, and has nothing to contribute Dimetra is good at dancing now And June tries the stankle ankle

Si tienen hasta temas bailables, Kiss tienen el I Was Made For Lovin You y Ghost el Dance Macabre. Cada oyente sacara parecidos diferentes.

We're back with another Beyond Spectacle episode looking at dramatic fictional films that integrate dance and movement into their story. For this episode we are joined with previous Frameform guest, Nathan Scoll, who chose our destiny to dissect Disney's 1949 animated double billed feature, “The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad.”As we focus our attention to the film's second story following Ichabod Crane, we notice many recycled characters from childhood favorite films and examine the Disney aesthetic on how they use dance to support the characteristics of our glutinous cast.Follow Nathan Scoll! @thriftopia_nathanscollCatch up on our last Beyond Spectacle episode with Nathan from S1EP20--FEATUREDThe Legend of Sleepy Hollow (1949)Dir. by Jack Kinney, James Algar, Clyde GeronimiFeatured Cast : Bing CrosbyProduction Company : Walt Disney PicturesAvailable on streaming with Disney+Nathan Scoll's ShortsDance Macabre - Short FilmDance or Die - A Video Essay--ANNOUNCEMENTSCapitol Dance and Cinema FestivalEaton Center, Washington DCIn-Person - October 9, 2021Online - October 1@capitoldcfestivalUprooted Documentary @ Capitol Dance and Cinema Festival OnlineOctober 10 + 11thCatch up with the Uprooted crew from Frameform S1E5London Contemporary Dance School | MA Screendance ProgramEuston, LondonAccepting Sept 2022 applicationsA 15 month course, developing your practice on the only MA in dance filmmaking in the world! Grimalkin is especially annoying this episode, although it's not clear if that's because the kids couldn't predict her reaction to catnip or if it's because she's a little homesick. Bookwaves/Artwaves is produced and hosted by Richard Wolinsky. Bookwaves Erik Larson, author of The Splendid and the Vile: A Saga of Churchill, Family, and Defiance During the Blitz, in conversation with Richard Wolinsky. Erik Larson is the author of several best-selling works of narrative non-fiction, including Dead Wake, In the Garden of Beasts and The Devil in the White City. His latest book takes us one year, from May 1940 to May 1941, a time which encompasses not only Winston Churchill's first year as Prime Minister of England, but also the Blitz, the often daily air raids by the Germans on London, Coventry and other cities, which began at the same time and ended almost to the day one year later. We follow the Churchill family's quotidian lives during that time, from watching to bombs to various wartime love affairs and break-ups, along with a look at how both the British and German governments worked during that year. In the interview, Erik Larson discusses his source material, and compares some of what went on then to what's happening today, particularly in terms of heroic and destitute patterns of leadership. On va parler ! Beaucoup ! On va parler ! Beaucoup ! Bin your plastic masks and candy cauldrons, it’s time to talk about the real Halloween. You can be sure: Halloween, or All Hallow’s Eve, is far more frightening than any costume or horror film. All Hallow’s Eve falls on the Autumn Equinix. It is long believed that this pause causes a brief suspension in the natural world. For one night, our world and the otherworld slips, allowing Faeries, Spirits and Ghosts to pass between with ease. What?!That’s right. On the night of Halloween, Faeries, Spirits and Ghosts enjoy absolute freedom. They can go anywhere, and do most anything they please. Some Spirits may wish for nothing but to visit loved ones, enjoy a little music and hospitality… lovely.Others though, have been waiting, biding their otherworldly time to pay a visit to someone who have offended or wronged them in their life and unleash a little payback. This is when things get scary. And the Faerie? Well as we know, they are unpredictable and can be deathly dangerous. On this night… when the dead and the living mingle, anything can happen and canny folk will take precautions to protect themselves.Kitty looks at what can happen on Halloween and shares loads of customs and tips to help you navigate your way through this spooky night to see another dawn.Do you have a tale of an encounter with Faeries, Spirits or Ghosts? You can contact Kitty at:www.facebook.com/encounterswiththegoodpeoplewww.instagram.com/encounterswiththegoodpeoplehttps://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZISzueo7YXNPwowda2p0zQwww.encounterswiththegoodpeople.comglassonionstories@gmail.com*PODCAST CREDITS:Edited by: Magic Dan.‘Spirits of the Dead’ by Edgar Allan Poe. Continuing with our theme from last time, we explore more death in music. From the Hundred Years War to Disney and from French poetry to the King of Pop, death and music are always intertwined.

CW: Mental Disorder, Child Abuse, Sexual Abuse, Potential Self Harm Dissociative Identity Disorder is the order of the day on this week’s Pod Sematary. Chris & Kelsey talk for way too long about these surprisingly fascinating movies. 1992’s Dance Macabre asks, “What if the phantom was Freddy Kruger and the opera was a Russian ballet school?” This would be interesting enough, but then it adds, "Oh, and go ahead and throw in multiple personalities while you’re at it.” It’s an angle that adds something to the story, but is that something a good twist? 2016’s (M. Night Shyamalan’s) Split, on the other hand, astonishingly ditches the plot twist and instead explores the possibility that DID patients are the key to unlocking human potential. John Donne (1572-1631) may have been the most wildly inventive poet who ever lived. But that doesn’t mean he was the most successful. Dr. Johnson, writing a hundred years later, objected to Donne and the other Metaphysical Poets for the way in which they “yoked together with violence” heterogenous ideas. T.S. Eliot found something much richer in the poems, but even his analysis leaves us with the central burning question: can a poem about a flea be any good? Jacke Wilson considers the question. FREE GIFT! This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call...the Rad Zone. This week Radtober continues as Kyle and Matthew sit down with return guests Greg Gonzalez and Daniel Zafran from the LA Meekly podcast to talk about the classic series: The Twilight Zone. They discuss this sci-fi/horror staple (which wasn't really all that scary), how this show was way ahead of its time and how people loved Rod Serling's socio-political commentary, as well as his love of boxing and grandmas. Kyle goes down a 1950s TV rabbit hall, Burnside talks about meth and Natalie watches footage from the Twilight Zone movie that she can't un-see. This episode is sponsored by Loot Crate.
