The October 27 edition of the AgNet News Hour delivered a mix of urgency and innovation, as hosts Nick Papagni and Josh McGill discussed California's expanding HLB citrus quarantine, the latest autonomous robotics technology, and the insights of UC Agriculture & Natural Resources (UC ANR) and The Reservoir founder Danny Bernstein on the state's farming future. The show opened with breaking news that California's HLB (Huanglongbing) quarantine boundaries have expanded significantly. McGill, who witnessed the disease's devastation in Florida, warned that California must learn from that experience before it's too late. “In Florida, they thought they could contain it,” he said. “Within five years, the entire state's citrus acreage was infected.” Papagni and McGill stressed that if California fails to act decisively, its citrus industry — one of the state's most iconic — could face the same fate. Their conversation highlighted the need for early detection, collaboration with Florida experts, and stronger integration between PCAs, UC researchers, and state agencies. “California citrus is world-renowned,” Papagni said. “If we lose it, the ripple effect will hit farms, jobs, and entire communities.” From disease control to digital transformation, the show then shifted gears with a spotlight on Bonsai Robotics, one of the most talked-about exhibitors at the FIRA USA 2025 Ag Automation Show in Woodland. Arif Gupta of Bonsai explained how their retrofit kits can turn any existing tractor into an autonomous vehicle — helping farmers save on labor and fuel while collecting real-time data. “We're helping growers take their current equipment and make it autonomous,” Gupta said. “It's about cutting costs, increasing precision, and building a smarter farm.” The program continued with UC ANR's Gabe Youtsey, who passionately described the university's mission to keep California farming viable amid rising regulation, labor shortages, and global competition. “California agriculture feeds the world,” Youtsey said. “If we lose the ability to produce our own food, we lose part of our national identity.” He also emphasized that farmers remain the best environmental stewards. “They're not poisoning the land — they're protecting it for future generations.” Finally, the show closed with a conversation with Danny Bernstein, founder of The Reservoir, an ag-tech incubator helping startups develop tools to solve real-world problems for growers. Bernstein called his company “the double-A league of ag tech,” connecting early-stage innovators with Central Valley and coastal farmers to help them test, refine, and scale their products. “Agriculture doesn't need innovation for luxury,” he said. “It needs innovation for resilience.” Papagni wrapped up by tying the week's stories together: “From fighting HLB to building the next generation of robotics, it's clear California agriculture is standing at a crossroads — and leading the way into the future.”
Summary This week, Mike Oitzman recaps the FIRA 2025 Ag Robotics event in Woodland, CA, highlighting the latest innovations in new automation solutions for agriculture. When Luke's Bánh Mì opened in the CBD, the response was extraordinary. Queues ran down Little Bourke Street, and more than 1,200 bánh mì were sold that first day. In fact, customers were averaging two or three each, so the real number was far higher. I went to the preview and then couldn't resist coming back the very next day just to see it all unfold. I even filmed the line, and for the first time ever, something I posted went viral. But the real story is bigger than one opening. Luke Vu is a third-generation Vietnamese baker whose journey began in his family's bakery in Ho Chi Minh City, with memories of wood-fired bread and early morning deliveries on his bike. After moving to Melbourne and completing a university degree, Luke still couldn't shake the pull of the bakery. The lure of bread, pâté and pickles was too strong, and he soon set up his own shop, first in Reservoir, then in Moonee Ponds and South Melbourne, where the bánh mì quickly became local fixtures. That history, and the hard work behind every detail, made the leap into the city all the more powerful.

Flooded green timber is distinctively the most iconic habitat in the duck hunting world--but unlike making instant coffee, managing green tree reservoirs involves more than just adding water. Way more. Joined by Ryan Askew and Brandon Bennett from Five Oaks, we break down what makes a true GTR, why bottomland hardwoods matter, the right way to flood and draw down, and the growing challenges—tree mortality, desirable red oak regeneration, now-versus-later management preferences—that threaten their future. Packed with history, science, and hard-earned lessons, this episode reveals how hunters and land managers can keep green-tree reservoir habitats thriving for generations. About Julie Condliffe Julie Condliffe is a 4x bestselling author, global speaker, and reputation reinvention strategist who helps high-achievers rise from public shame, digital defamation, or personal collapse. A former solicitor turned international voice for the silenced, Julie empowers professionals, leaders, and women in transition to reclaim their credibility, voice, and calling — not despite what they've been through, but because of it. Her latest book, Unbreakable: A Roadmap for Turning Adversity into Advantage, is both memoir and manifesto — a raw, insightful guide for anyone who's lost a title, a platform, or a sense of self, and is ready to rebuild with purpose. Julie doesn't offer polished platitudes; she speaks from lived experience, having rebuilt her life after a systemic and unjust attempt to silence her voice. Now, Julie supports others in their reinvention journeys — from senior professionals navigating reputational recovery, to ambitious women rebuilding after personal or career collapse. Her approach is honest, empowering, and deeply human: she reminds us that no one else gets to write our ending. Whether on global stages or in one-to-one transformations, Julie champions resilience that's real — not performative. She brings warmth, authority, and a message that transcends roles and resumes: that we are not defined by what breaks us, but by how we rise. Julie brings powerful storytelling, grounded insight, and a roadmap for reclaiming visibility, confidence, and identity — especially for anyone who's been knocked down and is ready to rise again. On the morning of July 11, 1963, a fisherman made a horrifying discovery: He stumbled across the concealed remains of a 2-year-old boy. The tiny body was wrapped in blankets, tied with wire and held down by iron weights in the Keene Creek Reservoir along Oregon 66 east of Ashland, Oregon. Officials moved the body to a cemetery where his tombstone read, “Unknown Baby Boy 1961-1963.″ The investigation was given case number 63-2301. For more than 50 years, it wouldn't get much further than that. By 2020, the case was the oldest known unidentified human remains case in the state of Oregon. On Episode 2 of The Unidentifieds podcast, hosts Regan Mertz and Dave Killen take listeners on a trip to the Siskiyou Mountains where the remains were found, talk to a former investigator who pursued the case, and introduce you to Cece Moore, Parabon NanoLabs' chief genetic genealogist. Moore is one of the nation's foremost experts in the field. In this episode, we learn how a Facebook message, a DNA match and genealogical sleuthing gave a little boy his name back. A college basketball player has died after an incident at a Utah reservoir. Correspondent Gethin Coolbaugh reports.
Adam creates a hypnosis session to help a client increase their feelings of inner-peace, using a metaphor of inner peace moving from a shallow pond to a huge reservoir to help them be more resilient to things that bothered them. Adam also uses a metaphor of a well that can be lowered to retrieve resources from their past to help a current situation. This will be useful for anyone with a desire to feel more composed in situations that easily trigger them.
Flair on The Clay Edwards Show: Wrestling Icon Talks Legacy, Cannabis, and Life At Southern Sky Brands in Canton, MS, wrestling legend Ric Flair joined host Clay Edwards for a lively interview blending nostalgia, business, and personal insights. Edwards, a fan since childhood, shared a vivid memory: watching TBS wrestling at 5:05 p.m., where the Four Horsemen broke Dusty Rhodes' leg. His grandfather called Flair "the dirtiest motherfucker in the game"—a compliment in Flair's eyes. At 48, Edwards thanked Flair for decades of memories. Flair's favorite era? NWA in the 1980s. He recalled Jackson Coliseum shows and nights at the Reservoir, bars like The Dock (now gone) and Martin's (still thriving). The chat focused on Flair's "Ric Flair Drip" cannabis line with Southern Sky. Overwhelmed by the facility's quality, Flair praised the team and sales across 200 dispensaries. Edwards, after touring, called it true medical-grade; if he partook, it'd be Flair's brand over competitors. Entry into cannabis came via a late associate and Mike Tyson, a friend since the '80s. Tyson, still in shape post-Jake Paul fight, partnered with Flair. Flair stays fit, deadlifting 400 lbs. Being Flair means constant fame—photos everywhere, but 99% positive. "Living the gimmick" has pitfalls, like tax issues, but he enjoys it. Edwards dubbed him a true icon. Hulk Hogan's recent death added poignancy; Flair plans Biloxi visits before Sept. 2, appearances in 14 states, CarShield ads with Ice-T, and autograph sessions. WOO Energy drink eyes China and Thailand markets. Travel tales included urging Edwards to visit Malaysia; Edwards shared his flying fear and brief LA stint. Excited for Ric Flair Drip's growth, Flair credits Southern Sky's promotion. He appreciates Mississippi's warmth (and drinking prowess over Canadians). On WWE's ESPN deal, Flair's humble: they're printing money. Hogan's decline—surgeries left him diminished—sparked anxiety; Flair's 2017 crisis (organ failure, ICU, stoma) led to life-support limits. Edwards thanked Flair, eager for more MS visits. Flair reciprocated, honored to share his story.
Send us a textThis week on the Montana Outdoor Podcast your host Downrigger Dale has a fascinating discussion with Katie Vivian, FWP Region 4 Fisheries Manager. Katie is very intelligent, especially when it comes to the fish in Tiber Reservoir, which is also her personal favorite place to fish. Tiber can be challenging to get it to give up its HUGE Walleye and other species. When you watch this podcast on YouTube or listen to it here, Katie will explain why and will help you get around that. One of the main reasons that Rigger contacted Katie in the first place was so many of you had emailed him and asked what was the reason for those incredible record breaking weights that were turned in during the Walleyes Unlimited Walleye Tournament just last June. In fact, those weights were so incredible that they became national news. It is VERY unusual to see the size of so many huge walleyes being caught over a two-day period and not just by the winning team but by many of the other teams. That's a huge change from past tournaments at Tiber. So yeah, it's not surprising that national publications picked up that story. One question came out of all those news stories, "why", why all the sudden such dramatic change in the size of Walleye caught in Tiber. Sure, one team can just have an amazing two days, but to have so many teams do it, well that lead everyone to feel that something BIG had changed at Tiber Reservoir but no one knew why, that is until now. Wait until you hear what Katie Vivian says on this podcast. When you do be prepared to have a "mystery solved" moment. All of us here at the Montana Outdoor Podcast can't wait for you to hear this!! Plus, Katie gives a great overview of what else is swimming around in Tiber Reservior. We predict there will likely be a whole lot of you heading for Tiber Reservior there in North Central Montana! So what are you waiting for? Get to listening or better yet watch it on YouTube cause Katie also shares some awesome pictures of some monsters that have shown up in her netting surveys at Tiber!Links:To learn more about Tiber Reservoir click here. Shrimp Scandal Exposed: Jackson Restaurants Caught in Wild-Caught Deception! In a eye-opening segment, Clay Edwards breaks down a new genetic testing study by CD Consulting (for Southern Shrimp Alliance) revealing widespread fraud in Jackson-area seafood spots. From June 23-26, 2025, 44 restaurants were sampled; only 14 served genuine US wild-caught shrimp as advertised – the rest dished out imported fakes. "Mississippians deserve to know what they're being served – wild-caught is pride & livelihood!" quotes COO Aaron Williams. Clay lists the authentic 14: Aha Crawfish Bistro, Barry's Seafood, Da Shack, Drago's, Howlin' Miles, Half Shell Oyster House, McB's Bar & Grill, Primo's Cafe, Shaggy's on the Rez, Season's Crawfish, Shuckers on the Reservoir, Table 100, The Mayflower, The Twisted Turnip. Praises them as well-run, mostly local/MS-owned institutions: "No surprise – they hold higher standards, don't lie to friends & neighbors." Notes 18 explicitly inauthentic, 10 implicitly (via branding), 2 admitted imports post-query. Ties to new MS labeling law (July 1, 2025) for transparency: "Hope retesting shows improvement – honesty, not deception!" Calls out suppliers' role but stresses accountability.

National Security, Innovation, and Tariff Tension In today's episode of the AgNet News Hour, Nick Papagni and Josh McGill break down the latest headlines shaping agriculture in California and across the nation. From Washington D.C. to the fields of Salinas and the Central Valley, this episode covers some of the most urgent and transformative issues impacting farmers today. Leading the show is the USDA's unveiling of the National Farm Security Action Plan. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins rolled out a sweeping federal initiative designed to safeguard U.S. agriculture from foreign adversaries. The plan includes banning land purchases by foreign entities from countries of concern, cracking down on fraudulent nutrition programs, and protecting ag research and supply chains. Nick and Josh give their takes on what this means for California farmers and national ag resilience. Also in today's show: Tariff uncertainty continues to loom large as the Trump administration delays enforcement to August 1. The team breaks down the potential impacts of increased tariffs on 14 nations, including what the delay means for California growers trying to plan ahead in an already volatile global market. The hosts weigh the risks, opportunities, and why India's absence from the list might signal a positive development. In the spotlight interview, Nick and Josh sit down with Danny Bernstein, CEO of The Reservoir, a groundbreaking incubator for ag innovation. Bernstein discusses his team's work with major California growers like Taylor Farms and Driscoll's to create real-world testing grounds for tech startups. From automated harvesters to precision irrigation, the Reservoir is helping bridge the gap between Silicon Valley and farm fields—and giving smaller producers a seat at the innovation table. They also tackle major challenges like labor shortages, automation bans, and California's regulatory hurdles, with Bernstein emphasizing the need for inclusive, scalable solutions. Spider mites and hull rot? Todd Burkdoll from Valent USA closes the show with timely insights on how to protect your tree nuts with Quash and Zeal MVP.
