Flair on The Clay Edwards Show: Wrestling Icon Talks Legacy, Cannabis, and Life At Southern Sky Brands in Canton, MS, wrestling legend Ric Flair joined host Clay Edwards for a lively interview blending nostalgia, business, and personal insights. Edwards, a fan since childhood, shared a vivid memory: watching TBS wrestling at 5:05 p.m., where the Four Horsemen broke Dusty Rhodes' leg. His grandfather called Flair "the dirtiest motherfucker in the game"—a compliment in Flair's eyes. At 48, Edwards thanked Flair for decades of memories. Flair's favorite era? NWA in the 1980s. He recalled Jackson Coliseum shows and nights at the Reservoir, bars like The Dock (now gone) and Martin's (still thriving). The chat focused on Flair's "Ric Flair Drip" cannabis line with Southern Sky. Overwhelmed by the facility's quality, Flair praised the team and sales across 200 dispensaries. Edwards, after touring, called it true medical-grade; if he partook, it'd be Flair's brand over competitors. Entry into cannabis came via a late associate and Mike Tyson, a friend since the '80s. Tyson, still in shape post-Jake Paul fight, partnered with Flair. Flair stays fit, deadlifting 400 lbs. Being Flair means constant fame—photos everywhere, but 99% positive. "Living the gimmick" has pitfalls, like tax issues, but he enjoys it. Edwards dubbed him a true icon. Hulk Hogan's recent death added poignancy; Flair plans Biloxi visits before Sept. 2, appearances in 14 states, CarShield ads with Ice-T, and autograph sessions. WOO Energy drink eyes China and Thailand markets. Travel tales included urging Edwards to visit Malaysia; Edwards shared his flying fear and brief LA stint. Excited for Ric Flair Drip's growth, Flair credits Southern Sky's promotion. He appreciates Mississippi's warmth (and drinking prowess over Canadians). On WWE's ESPN deal, Flair's humble: they're printing money. Hogan's decline—surgeries left him diminished—sparked anxiety; Flair's 2017 crisis (organ failure, ICU, stoma) led to life-support limits. Edwards thanked Flair, eager for more MS visits. Flair reciprocated, honored to share his story.

Send us a textThis week on the Montana Outdoor Podcast your host Downrigger Dale has a fascinating discussion with Katie Vivian, FWP Region 4 Fisheries Manager. Katie is very intelligent, especially when it comes to the fish in Tiber Reservoir, which is also her personal favorite place to fish.  Tiber can be challenging to get it to give up its HUGE Walleye and other species. When you watch this podcast on YouTube or listen to it here, Katie will explain why and will help you get around that. One of the main reasons that Rigger contacted Katie in the first place was so many of you had emailed him and asked what was the reason for those incredible record breaking weights that were turned in during the Walleyes Unlimited Walleye Tournament just last June. In fact, those weights were so incredible that they became national news. It is VERY unusual to see the size of so many huge walleyes being caught over a two-day period and not just by the winning team but by many of the other teams. That's a huge change from past tournaments at Tiber. So yeah, it's not surprising that national publications picked up that story. One question came out of all those news stories, "why", why all the sudden such dramatic change in the size of Walleye caught in Tiber. Sure, one team can just have an amazing two days, but to have so many teams do it, well that lead everyone to feel that something BIG had changed at Tiber Reservoir but no one knew why, that is until now. Wait until you hear what Katie Vivian says on this podcast. When you do be prepared to have a "mystery solved" moment. All of us here at the Montana Outdoor Podcast can't wait for you to hear this!! Plus, Katie gives a great overview of what else is swimming around in Tiber Reservior. We predict there will likely be a whole lot of you heading for Tiber Reservior there in North Central Montana! So what are you waiting for? Get to listening or better yet watch it on YouTube cause Katie also shares some awesome pictures of some monsters that have shown up in her netting surveys at Tiber!Links:To learn more about Tiber Reservoir click here. Click here to learn more about Barotrauma in fish, a term Katie talks about in the podcast.Click here to check out the Montana Fish Management Plan.Questions for Katie Vivian? Shrimp Scandal Exposed: Jackson Restaurants Caught in Wild-Caught Deception! In a eye-opening segment, Clay Edwards breaks down a new genetic testing study by CD Consulting (for Southern Shrimp Alliance) revealing widespread fraud in Jackson-area seafood spots. From June 23-26, 2025, 44 restaurants were sampled; only 14 served genuine US wild-caught shrimp as advertised – the rest dished out imported fakes. "Mississippians deserve to know what they're being served – wild-caught is pride & livelihood!" quotes COO Aaron Williams. Clay lists the authentic 14: Aha Crawfish Bistro, Barry's Seafood, Da Shack, Drago's, Howlin' Miles, Half Shell Oyster House, McB's Bar & Grill, Primo's Cafe, Shaggy's on the Rez, Season's Crawfish, Shuckers on the Reservoir, Table 100, The Mayflower, The Twisted Turnip. Praises them as well-run, mostly local/MS-owned institutions: "No surprise – they hold higher standards, don't lie to friends & neighbors." Notes 18 explicitly inauthentic, 10 implicitly (via branding), 2 admitted imports post-query. Ties to new MS labeling law (July 1, 2025) for transparency: "Hope retesting shows improvement – honesty, not deception!" Calls out suppliers' role but stresses accountability.

The great noir and detective author Martin Cruz Smith died of Parkinsons Disease on July 11, 2025 at the age of 82.  A journalist originally, and then a writer of paperback fiction under a variety of pseudonyms, he began writing under his own name and became known following the publication of a horror novel, Nightwing, in 1977. Though it wasn't until 1981 with the release of Gorky Park, a detective novel set in Soviet Russia and featuring investigator Arkady Renko, that he hit best-seller stardom. Over the next few years, he alternated non-series novels with entries in the Renko series, all to much acclaim. There are four Martin Cruz Smith interviews. The first two, both co-hosted with Richard A. Lupoff for Probabilities, were recorded in 1990 while on tour for Polar Star, the sequel to Gorky Park, and then again in 1996 for the award-winning stand-alone novel, Rose. These interviews have yet to be digitized. Today's program focuses on the two later interviews> Part One: This interview was recorded December 9, 2004 while on the book tour for the Arkady Renko novel, “Wolves Eat Dogs.” Part Two: This interview was recorded December 9, 2013 while on the book tour for the  Arkady Renko novel, “Tatiana.”   Martin Cruz Smith Wikipedia page   Book Interview/Events and Theatre Links Note: Shows may unexpectedly close early or be postponed due to actors' positive COVID tests. National Security, Innovation, and Tariff Tension In today's episode of the AgNet News Hour, Nick Papagni and Josh McGill break down the latest headlines shaping agriculture in California and across the nation. From Washington D.C. to the fields of Salinas and the Central Valley, this episode covers some of the most urgent and transformative issues impacting farmers today. Leading the show is the USDA's unveiling of the National Farm Security Action Plan. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins rolled out a sweeping federal initiative designed to safeguard U.S. agriculture from foreign adversaries. The plan includes banning land purchases by foreign entities from countries of concern, cracking down on fraudulent nutrition programs, and protecting ag research and supply chains. Nick and Josh give their takes on what this means for California farmers and national ag resilience. Also in today's show: Tariff uncertainty continues to loom large as the Trump administration delays enforcement to August 1. The team breaks down the potential impacts of increased tariffs on 14 nations, including what the delay means for California growers trying to plan ahead in an already volatile global market. The hosts weigh the risks, opportunities, and why India's absence from the list might signal a positive development. In the spotlight interview, Nick and Josh sit down with Danny Bernstein, CEO of The Reservoir, a groundbreaking incubator for ag innovation. Bernstein discusses his team's work with major California growers like Taylor Farms and Driscoll's to create real-world testing grounds for tech startups. From automated harvesters to precision irrigation, the Reservoir is helping bridge the gap between Silicon Valley and farm fields—and giving smaller producers a seat at the innovation table. They also tackle major challenges like labor shortages, automation bans, and California's regulatory hurdles, with Bernstein emphasizing the need for inclusive, scalable solutions. Spider mites and hull rot? Todd Burkdoll from Valent USA closes the show with timely insights on how to protect your tree nuts with Quash and Zeal MVP.

In this Voices of the Valley episode, Western Growers SeniorVice President, Innovation, Walt Duflock and The Reservoir CEO Danny Bernstein introduce Reservoir Farms, a first-of-its-kind initiative in Salinas, Calif., where agtech startups can work with growers to do field trials of their technologies. In tandem with endeavors from the Western Growers Center for Innovation and Technology, Reservoir is trying to solve one of ag's biggest problems: there is simply not enough labor to get crops out of the field and onto dinner tables. “We have a big and growing line-item expense challenge withgrowers in California,” Duflock says. “The best and maybe only realistic scalable solution for that is robots.”

The State of New York is considering draining the 98-acre Dunham Reservoir in Grafton, saying the 112-year-old dam is unsafe. Local residents are concerned that the dam's removal would eliminate a space for recreation and wildlife and potentially risk the area becoming a swamp. Local photographer John Bulmer talks with Mark Dunlea of Hudson Mohawk Magazine about the issue. SaveDunham.org

Send us a textThis week on the Montana Outdoor Podcast your host Downrigger Dale talks with Steve Darlinton Project Manager for the Bureau of Reclamation. Rigger and Steve have a fascinating discussion about the state of Freson Dam. You may recall back in December of 2023 Rigger talked with Steve about the precarious state that Fresno Dam was in. It was sinking! In fact, it had sunk ten feet since it had been constructed back in the 1930s. NOT something you want a dam to do! So, Steve and his crew set out to go about the tricky task of trying to save the dam. How is that going?  Interesting (and possibly a bit concerning) have you seen the whirlpool that has been getting bigger and bigger out there in Nelson Reservoir?! First and foremost, DO NOT go near that at all. Yes, it is dangerous! What is causing that, besides the obvious answer of “there is a lot of water draining out of the reservoir”, Steve does a great job of explaining all that, and needless to say, it is VERY interesting. Heck, the whole Podcast is flat fascinating. Be sure and listen to find out all the details. Rigger and Steve also talk about if the St Mary's Siphon failure and repairs are affecting both Fresno and Nelson Reservoirs and a whole lot more. No matter if you fish, recreate or live near Fresno or Nelson reservoirs, you will be fascinated by the amazing podcast so hit that play button and listen!Links:Heads up, Hi-Line travelers! Hold on tight for another topic that stirs the pot for some, fresh off the back of talking bear hunting we're sitting down with Steve Miller and Larry Harvey of Save Rodman Reservoir. A Brief overview would be that Rodman reservoir was built in 1968 when the Kirkpatrick dam was built across the Ocklawaha river as part of the larger cross Florida Barge Canal Project. Some would like to see the dam breached and some would like to see the reservoir stick around myself included but we're all free to have our own opinions but let's hear it from the Save Rodman side.
