Mike Waltz Said to Be Leaving Post Soon: Reports; Tesla Chair Denies Plan to Replace Musk

President Donald Trump's national security adviser, Mike Waltz, and his deputy will be leaving their positions, according to reports. A senior White House official did not confirm or deny a report in comments to The Epoch Times on Thursday and advised to pay attention to an announcement from President Donald Trump later in the day.The Senate rejected a resolution on April 30 to nullify President Donald Trump's April 2 tariffs on most trading partners. The measure failed with a tied vote of 49-49. The resolution was supported by Democrats and Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.). While Trump has since suspended most of the reciprocal tariffs for 90 days—with tariffs on China a notable exception—he left in place a 10 percent tariff on those countries in accordance with the 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act, which allows the U.S. president to unilaterally enact tariffs for national security reasons. The failed resolution sought to undo the 10 percent tariffs.Management at Tesla has firmly denied reports by The Wall Street Journal that the company began looking for a new boss to replace Elon Musk weeks ago. Board chair Robyn Denholm called the report “absolutely false,” and said the company was “highly confident” Musk could execute the firm's growth plans. Musk said last week that he would cut back on his government role, and spend more time running his companies.

IntroductionLIVE from a bottomless pit of CEO pay, it's a Business Pants Friday Show here at March 21st Studios, featuring AnalystHole Matt Moscardi. On today's weekly wrap up: Nelson Peltz hates woke ice cream, Self-hating Cybertrucks, and anti-ESG manbabies Our show today is being sponsored by Free Float Analytics, the only platform measuring board power, connections, and performance for FREE.Story of the Week (DR):‘Incompetent:' Jamie Dimon unloads on proxy advisor ISSJamie Dimon said Glass Lewis and Institutional Shareholder Services (ISS) should be “gone and dead and done with”, as he also launched an attack on those who pay for their services. In an interview with Semafor at Blackrock's retirement summit, Mr Dimon said: “Anyone who gives them money – shame on you.”Unilever hit ‘new levels of oppressiveness,' Ben & Jerry's claims as its CEO was sacked over social activismIce cream maker Ben & Jerry's has accused its parent company of firing its CEO David Stever over his support of the brand's progressive politics. On Tuesday, the Vermont-based brand filed an amended complaint in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, alleging that Unilever “has repeatedly threatened Ben & Jerry's personnel, including CEO David Stever, should they fail to comply with Unilever's efforts to silence the Social Mission.”Ben & Jerry's said Unilever informed its board on March 3 that it was removing and replacing Ben & Jerry's CEO David Stever. Ben & Jerry's said that violated its merger agreement with Unilever, which states that any decisions regarding a CEO's removal must come after a consultation with an advisory committee from Ben & Jerry's board.“empowered to protect and defend Ben & Jerry's brand equity and integrity”White man David Stever, 4 women of color (one who is the chair), and two black men. In Vermont? Are they trolling us?!?! I guess it can be done. Unilever board member Nelson Peltz is still trying to find a white actor for Black PantherUnilever has not publicly disclosed a reason for Stever's firingThe ice cream company has a unique corporate structure that was meant to protect its activist mission, even after its 2000 sale to Unilever:Independent Board of Directors: Unlike most Unilever-owned brands, Ben & Jerry's has an independent board specifically tasked with preserving the company's social mission.Merger Agreement Protections: The 2000 acquisition agreement required consultation with the board for key leadership decisions, including hiring or firing the CEO.Social Mission Oversight: The board exists to prevent the dilution of the company's activist identity—something that appears to be under increasing pressure.Ben & Jerry's Founders Say They Stand Behind Ousted CEOBoeing Sued for Wrongful Death by Family of WhistleblowerBoeing pushed John Barnett, who was a quality manager at Boeing for nearly three decades, to his death by harassing and intimidating him after he raised safety concerns about the company's plant building the 787 Dreamliner in Charleston, South Carolina, a wrongful death lawsuit filed in federal court in the state alleges. His family claim in their suit that Boeing responded by carrying out a “campaign of harassment, abuse and intimidation intended to discourage, discredit and humiliate him until he would either give up or be discredited”.In the evening of March 8th last year, Barnett left the law offices of Boeing's outside counsel in Charleston after testifying for two days in the OSHA case. Barnett was giving his account of how Boeing violated its own policies and procedures, and FAA rules, during his seven years as a quality inspector at the North Charleston plant that assembles the 787 Dreamliner. He'd delayed a trip back to his home in Louisiana to finish his deposition the next day, a Saturday. Videos cited in the police report show Barnett leaving the hotel around 8:30 PM, and getting in his Clemson orange, Dodge truck. When Barnett failed to show by the 10 AM starting time for his final round of testimony, Turkewitz called the Holiday Inn to conduct a “welfare check.”Note: “America come together or die!!! As the Financial Times reports, a whopping $1.4 billion appears to have vanished in thin air. The enormous hole arises when examining the carmaker's capital expenditures and how those compare to the reported rise of the value of its assets.According to Tesla's cashflow statements, the firm spent $6.3 billion on "purchases of property and equipment excluding finance leases, net of sales" in the second half of 2024. However, its balance sheet claims the gross value of property, plant, and equipment rose by only $4.9 billion — leaving an eyebrow-raising $1.4 billion discrepancy.Musk Set to Receive Top-Secret Briefing on U.S. War Plans for ChinaMusk Tells Tesla Workers: Don't Sell Your SharesTesla board members, executive sell off over $100 million of stock in recent weeksTogether, four top officers at the company have offloaded over $100 million in shares since early February.Last week, longtime Musk ally James Murdoch became the latest to do so, exercising a stock option and selling shares worth approximately $13 million, according to an SEC filing.Elon Musk's brother, Kimbal Musk, who also sits on the board, unloaded 75,000 shares worth approximately $27 million last month, according to a filing. The chairman of the board, Robyn Denholm, has offloaded more than $75 million dollars worth of shares in two transactions in the past five weeks, federal filings show.Goodliest of the Week (MM/DR):DR: Chobani CEO: Why we're now giving all workers at least 12 weeks of parental leaveDR: JD Vance rips globalization, calling cheap labor a 'drug'MM: Tesla Cybertruck deliveries are on hold as trims are flying off the 'bulletproof' truck DRThey recalled ALL of them - imagine if Mary Barra put out a car at GM that, 1 year after releasing, they had to recall ALL of them? In this episode we deep dive into choosing the right investors, following reporting by Bronwen Clune and John McDuling from Capital Brief, about Dovetail turning down investment from Andreessen Horowitz when they raised $89million in the heady days of the Covid boom. https://go.tribeglobal.vc/podcast/episode-13-tribe-talkin-ep-7-choosing-the-right-investors  This got us talking about how founders need to choose the right investors, and share some experiences we've each had with regards to the good and the bad. We discuss an article by Paul Smith talking about how we may coming out of a VC winter, and we talk about what we are seeing in terms of deal flow and valuations. The article also talks about the customers of B2B tech companies coming under pressure from the cooling economy, and we discuss common challenges in the B2B sales cycle generally. We talk about how Robyn Denholm is using her considerable wealth and influence to back more women led tech ventures, although she says funding for female-led tech start ups has decreased over the past 12-18 months as a percentage of investment. As part of this discussion, we have a slight diversion talking about how structure achieves strategy, and that there are always a range of factors often not acknowledged being the  foundations for the individual successes. We discuss some of these structural factors, and why one needs to be careful when successful people tell you why they think they were successful.   Finally we close the episode discussing the upcoming Walter Isaacson biography on Elon Musk, and the various rather crazy stories that are already coming out. We tie a number of these stories back to lessons entrepreneurs and investors can learn. It's  Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they've built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It's a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   VW TO UPGRADE EMDEN FACTORY OVER SUMMER BREAK   - Volkswagen has announced that it will be pushing ahead with a number of construction projects at the Emden site during the upcoming plant holiday. More than 1,000 employees and external workers are to work on around 300 construction sites between 2 and 27 August for the transformation to an EV production site.   - the transformation is to be completed in the first half of 2022 and volume production of e-vehicles will start. This will initially involve the ID.4, which will then be built at two locations in Germany in addition to Zwickau. In addition, two plants in China will produce the ID.4 X and ID.4 Crozz versions there, and later the ID.4 will also be built at the US plant in Chattanooga.   - In addition to the ID.4, the fully electric production versions of the ID.Vizzion and ID.Space Vizzion show cars are also scheduled to come off the production line in Emden from 2023 onwards. These are a sedan and the accompanying estate car the size of a Passat   Original Source : https://www.electrive.com/2021/07/31/vw-to-upgrade-emden-factory-over-summer-break/   THE AUDI A6 E-TRON CONCEPT WILL GO INTO PRODUCTION IN 2022   - Audi is doing everything it can to make concept cars more than just something to dream about.   The German marque plans to put its well-received A6 e-tron concept into production, just as it did with the e-tron GT before it, CNET Roadshow reports. Even more exciting, the car could make its debut as soon as next year, with a release expected to follow in 2023.   - the car will be able to go 450 miles on a single charge, which is further than any EV currently on the market. New 800-volt charging tech will allow drivers to add 186 miles of range in just 10 minutes and go from 10- to 80-percent battery capacity in a half hour.   Original Source : https://robbreport.com/motors/cars/audi-a6-etron-concept-production-vehicle-1234627346   NEW PORSCHE 911 TURBO HYBRID SPIED AT THE NURBURGRING   - Porsche is preparing to electrify the 911 with the first ever plug-in hybrid version of its iconic sports car, and our spy photographers have captured the car testing at the Nurburgring Nordschleife.   - Porsche engineered the 992-series platform to accommodate a hybrid powertrain, confirmed to Auto Express in March 2020   - The marque is aiming to lose none of the 911s trademark usability with the hybrid model, which will likely retain the standard car's 2+2 layout.   - Specific powertrain details are yet to be confirmed, but the 911 hybrid is expected to have similar performance to the Panamera S E-Hybrid, which uses a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 paired to an electric motor   Original Source : https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/porsche/911/105378/new-porsche-911-turbo-hybrid-spied-nurburgring   LUCID MOTORS AIMS FOR 500-MILE RANGE    - To do a truly affordable electric car, the company would have to grow. It would represent a huge investment for us if my investors wanted to do that.So I think if you're talking about (a starting price of) $25,000-$30,000. We're about seven or eight years out from that, realistically. Nine years on from Model S, Tesla still hasn't done a $25,000-$30,000 car.I don't think we've got the company maturity and infrastructure (yet) and the amount of capital it would take.   - I believe that we need to create a technological tour de force. Not many people need 500-mile range, but it is a way of dismissing range anxiety once and for all, isn't it?You can replace range anxiety with range confidence. Great products do extraordinary things.   - Who are your competitors? Rawlinson: The gasoline luxury market. And that's really dominated by Mercedes, BMWs, Porsches, and to some extent, Lexus and Jaguar as well. The media likes a comparison with Tesla. Tesla is the undisputed leader in technology. Tesla is the benchmark against which everyone will be judged, particularly for EV efficiency powertrain prowess   Original Source : https://eu.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2021/07/31/lucid-motors-lucid-air-peter-rawlinson-spac/5419570001/   TESLA MODEL Y ARRIVES AT SHOWROOM IN AMSTERDAM   - The European market is eagerly awaiting the delivery of the first Model Ys, which should begin in August. In the meantime, Tesla began placing the compact SUV in showrooms and the first Model Y was to appear at Tesla Amsterdam South-East showroom, Netherlands today.   - On July 29, a Tesla customer in the Netherlands received an email from the company informing them that the first Model Y would appear in the Amsterdam showroom on July 31.   Original Source : https://www.tesmanian.com/blogs/tesmanian-blog/tesla-model-y-delivered-to-the-showroom-in-amsterdam-netherlands-today   TESLA SETTLES CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT OVER MODEL S RANGE REDUCTION   - Way, way back in 2019, we reported on an investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) into some issues that customers were having with their Tesla Model S batteries. Specifically, Tesla sent out an over-the-air software update that was meant to address a problem with the Model S' battery pack, but it ended up reducing the range of the affected vehicles.   - Tesla has agreed to pay out $1.5 million to owners of affected vehicles, which works out to around $625 per owner.   - t's barely a drop in the bucket. Still, it is likely satisfying to those affected owners who -- according to Tesla -- had their cars' range restored beginning in March of 2020.   Original Source : https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/tesla-settles-class-action-lawsuit-over-model-s-range-reduction/   SANDY MUNRO IS IMPRESSED BY THE FORD F-150 LIGHTNING   - According to Sandy Munro, Ford has a real winner. The vehicle has tons of great, usable features, starting with the massive front trunk (frunk) that looks bigger in person. Another thing is the power export feature. And a smart range estimator for trailers.   - Munro Live's team checked also the undercarriage, noting that the rear suspension looks very solid and has a unique geometry.   - Another element that caught the attention of the team is the "isolated" battery pack, which also appears to be unique according to the video. Not only that, from separate reports we know that the 300 miles (483 km) of range might be a conservative approach (see specs here).   Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/523642/sandy-munro-ford-f150-lightning   BHP SAYS ELECTRIC CAR ERA IS DAWNING EARLIER THAN EXPECTED   - Australia's largest miner BHP has described 2020 as an “inflection point” for the rapidly approaching electric vehicle revolution as Elon Musk's Tesla sold more than half a million battery-powered cars and sales in Europe more than doubled.   - The ASX-listed mining giant, whose main commodities are iron ore, copper and coal, is seeking to expand its exposure to the minerals that will be increasingly required to power the clean energy age such as nickel and copper, which are two of the ingredients in lithium-ion batteries.   - BHP's nickel division now sold 85 per cent of its volumes to the electric vehicle market rather than the stainless steel industry.   - Robyn Denholm, Tesla's Australian-born chairwoman, in June declared Tesla was on track to spend more than $1 billion a year on Australian-mined lithium, nickel and other metals needed to make batteries and vehicles, but warned the country was missing out on a far more valuable role in the global supply chain.   Original Source : https://www.smh.com.au/business/companies/bhp-says-electric-car-era-is-dawning-earlier-than-expected-20210803-p58fcd.html   KUWAIT PORTS PLANS REGION'S FIRST CITY FOR ELECTRIC CAR MAKERS   - Kuwait Ports Authority (KPA) has approved a proposal to build the Middle East's first city to serve electric vehicle manufacturers, the authority said in a statement on Sunday.   - The statement does not make clear where the project, called EV City, will be located.   - electric car makers do not use local distributors or dealers and sell their vehicles directly to consumers, adding that it was common for ports to provide certain infrastructure to manufacturers.   - The Public Investment Fund, the sovereign wealth fund of neighbouring Saudi Arabia, has made huge gains after it invested more than $1 billion in electric carmaker Lucid in 2018.   Original Source : https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/kuwait-ports-plans-regions-first-city-electric-car-makers-2021-08-01/   WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT BRINGING AN ELECTRIC CAR TO UNIVERSAL ORLANDO   - There are charging stations for electric vehicles in the main parking area if you are visiting Universal Studios Florida, Universal's Islands of Adventure, Universal's Volcano Bay, or CityWalk. However, there are only four stations total — two for Teslas and two for other manufacturers — and they are located at Valet Parking.   - In addition to the four stations in the primary garage, there are electric vehicle charging stations at each of the hotels. Each hotel has at least two charging stations in their parking areas.   - You can find locations of chargers, along with reviews, throughout Orlando at PlugShare and Drive Electric Orlando.   Original Source : https://orlandoinformer.com/blog/electriccar-universalorlando/   RENAULT MASTER E-TECH DELIVERS FIRST EVS FOR LYRECO Original Source : https://www.fleetpoint.org/renault-vans/renault-master-e-tech-delivers-first-evs-for-lyreco/   QUESTION OF THE WEEK WITH EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM   What's the ideal location for a charging port on any EV? Ravi Chopra has built his career inside finance functions designed to serve growth-minded management. Such was the case in the late ’90s when Chopra joined Cisco Systems, which at the time was experiencing 50% growth annually. Jump forward 10 years, and you’ll find him busy leading the FP&A function for growth-driven Juniper Networks. Asked to reflect back on a 25-year finance career, Chopra doesn’t hesitate to cite his former employer. “I learned most of everything that I know today at Juniper,” says Chopra, who quickly names Robyn Denholm, Juniper’s former CFO and current Tesla chairman, as a present and former mentor. Still, when the door to the CFO office swung open for Chopra, the accomplished finance executive no doubt found his operations knowledge being put to the test. In 2017, Chopra would exit Juniper Networks and take on the CFO role at SonicWall, a company that had neither a finance nor an HR organization after it split off from Dell, Inc., in late 2016. Dell had acquired SonicWall in 2012 but divested the business along with Quest Software as part of the larger Dell EMC integration. Despite some missing parts, SonicWall arguably split off with something far more valuable intact: its brand name. Prior to being acquired by Dell, the cyber protection company had long since established itself as a leader in the small and midsize business space. “It was just an amazing challenge, and I think that we have now come out on the other side of it rather well,” explains Chopra, who believes that the speed with which SonicWall built its new infrastructure and achieved operational efficiencies allowed the firm to more quickly determine where to allocate capital. –Jack Sweeney Do you want to learn more about the experiences that shaped today’s finance leaders?
