This is a Grave Talks CLASSIC EPISODE!In Virginia Beach, Virginia, the Ferry Plantation House stands as one of the area's most historically rich—and paranormally active—sites. While it's unclear exactly when reports of spirits first began, stories of unexplained activity have followed the home throughout the 20th century and well into the present day.The house is believed to be occupied by as many as eleven distinct spirits, each tied to different periods of its long history. Among the most well-known are Henry, believed to have been enslaved on the property, and Erik, a young boy said to have died inside the home. Visitors and investigators report footsteps, voices, apparitions, and interactions that suggest the house is anything but empty.Cody Green, Vice President of Friends of the Ferry Plantation House and Paranormal Director, explores the history of Ferry Plantation House and the many spirits believed to remain there. Is Branded Content the future of journalism? Or put another way, does a news outlet that springs out of a lifestyle brand hold the keys for journalism's survival? That's what Rashaun Hall, Editor-in-Chief of The Whiskey Lifestyle is here to discuss. He sits down with Greg and Sother to talk about transforming from a music into a spirits and cocktail journalist and whether retail holds the key to independent news's future. They also get into diversity in the drinks space and what's doing alright vs. what needs to improve.PLUS, if you found a porron of delicious martini buried in one of New York City's many semi-permanent snowbanks right now… would you drink it? Send us a textI've been trying to find this bourbon for a while, folks. No, seriously. Years ago, I was told of a bourbon that was 4 years old, brand new, and held promise for the future of the industry as we know it. Have you heard of it? Well, funny enough, I've heard this story over and over again, and it's lead to successes unheard of on so many occasions. But, here we are, facing down the barrel of the potential next big kid to be featured in your home bar. Jackson Purchase, out of Western Kentucky, is helmed by two veteran Kentucky Bourbon distillers who are ready to make a name for themselves and are bringing the heat with the first release of their new brand. It's time to take it to the paint and discuss what makes it work and where things can go from here. In this episode, I'll be sharing about what shamanic journeying is, why you'd want to do it, and the most important tools you'll need in order to journey. If you would like me to walk you step by step through three different shamanic journeys so that you can experience the structure, guidance and discernment, I am teaching a live workshop this month where we can practice these skills together. Mark your calendar for Thursday, February 12th at 3pm Central Time for this hands-on workshop on Zoom. Together we will practice receiving intuitive information in a journey state, meet an animal guide in the Lower World and then experience the Middle World with the Spirits of the Land. By the end of the workshop, you'll have the skills you need to shift your consciousness into the liminal realms and begin communicating and working with the Spirits of the Land where you live or anywhere you visit. Send us a textWhen a 175-year-old Italian heritage brand decides to double down on the American market, the playbook isn't always obvious. But Christopher Watt, CEO of Branca USA, has cracked the code, delivering a 5% volume increase for Fernet-Branca, an explosive 91% growth for Borghetti coffee liqueur, and helping Carpano Antica Formula become the number-one sweet vermouth by value in U.S. retail. In an industry where heritage brands often struggle to stay relevant, Watt has proven that legacy and innovation aren't mutually exclusive; they're the foundation for breakthrough growth. In this episode, Watt reveals the strategic moves behind Branca USA's remarkable performance: from democratizing Fernet-Branca beyond high-end mixology into college towns and neighborhood bars, to riding the espresso martini wave with Borghetti, to capitalizing on the vermouth renaissance with Carpano Antica. Join us as we unpack his "pilot fish" distribution strategy, the data-driven approach that guided a lean team to outsized results, and why partnering with Reyes Beverage Group was the right strategic move for the portfolio.Featured Guest:Christopher Watt, CEO, Branca USAMentioned in this episode:Branca USAFratelli BrancaReyes Beverage GroupWant to stay in the know about new episodes from the podcast? Multiple days without power is taking its toll on both our spirits and on Middle Tennessee's infrastructure.Water main breaks and power loss to pumping stations is causing more water outages as Nashville thaws and nearly 100,000 people are still in the dark with no heat. Many residents are at a loss for what to do next.In this episode, we air Metro Nashville's daily press conference live from Mayor Freddie O'Connell's office, a live interview with Metro Water Services deputy director Brent Freeman, a few hotel dispatches and a check-in on our tiniest (and cutest) residents.Guests Dale Grimes, mayor of Oak Hill Leesa LeClaire, President and CEO, Greater Nashville Hospitality Association Brent Freeman, deputy director & Sonia Harvat, Public Information Officer, Metro Water Services Cynthia Abrams, WPLN Metro Reporter
Uncle Arnie's is one of the most compelling growth stories in THC beverages right now — and this episode breaks down how it actually happened.Since launching in 2020, the THC drinks brand has delivered roughly 100% growth each year, scaling from about $400K in Year 1 to more than $25M in revenue today. It's now one of the largest THC beverage brands in California, with a rapidly expanding national footprint across both regulated cannabis and hemp markets. In this episode, Theo Terris, co-founder and CEO of Uncle Arnie's, walks through how the company built momentum in a fragmented, highly regulated category — despite having no background in beverage, cannabis, or CPG. That outsider perspective shows up everywhere: From approachable branding and packaging that educates consumers, to a relentless focus on partners and execution.Theo explains why Uncle Arnie's leaned into full-flavor, familiar formats like teas, lemonades, sodas, and functional shots instead of chasing seltzer trends — and how thoughtful dose architecture (2.5mg, 5mg, 10mg) unlocked both sessionability and compliance across myriad state-by-state regulations. He also details how consumer education, including clear onset-time cues on packaging, helped reduce friction for first-time buyers and retailers alike. The conversation offers a rare, unvarnished look at what scaling actually looks like in THC beverages. Theo breaks down how Uncle Arnie's approached distribution market by market, why merchandising remains one of the category's biggest challenges, and how mature states like California and Minnesota provide a preview of where the space is headed. For investors, Theo shares how Uncle Arnie's raised capital opportunistically — recently closing a $7.5 million Series A with Mindset Capital, Delta Emerald Ventures, and strategic investor Harry Rubin of Boston Beer — and why mentorship and operational rigor mattered as much as funding. Even amid regulatory uncertainty, the brand continues to expand, landing in major retail chains and adding new points of distribution. The bigger takeaway: This isn't a hype-driven THC story. It's a grounded, data-aware discussion about building a real beverage business in a nascent and rapidly changing category.Whether you're a drinks founder, retailer, distributor, or investor tracking where the next major beverage movement is forming, this episode delivers insight into what's actually working — and what matters most when scaling in emerging categories.Don't miss our next episode, dropping on February 4.For the latest updates, follow us:Business of Drinks:YouTubeLinkedInInstagram @bizofdrinksErica Duecy, co-host: Erica Duecy is founder and co-host of Business of Drinks and one of the drinks industry's most accomplished digital and content strategists. Send us a textWinter has long been understood as more than a season of cold and scarcity. Across myth, folklore, and esoteric tradition, it marked a profound metaphysical turning inward — a time when the Earth was believed to “inhale,” drawing life, spirit, and consciousness back toward its core.In this episode of The Hidden Passage, we explore the spirits of winter and the role they played in shaping human consciousness, morality, and balance. Drawing on Indigenous North American traditions, Norse mythology, and esoteric philosophy (anthroposophy, theosophy), we examine how winter was seen as a season of instruction, restraint, and revelation — when hidden forces emerged to preserve order or expose excess. We look closely at: • Earth spirits, gnomes, and dwarves as preservers of form and memory • Winter teaching traditions and the invocation of the manitou as muse • Household spirits, tutelary beings, and sacred restraint • Monsters of winter as expressions of imbalance rather than simple evil • The wendigo as a cosmological figure of excess, hunger, and loss of self • How cosmic forces shape human behavior (based on the work of Rudolf Steiner) — and how balance restores freedomRather than treating monsters as external threats, this episode explores winter as a revelatory force — exposing what has grown out of proportion and clarifying the boundaries necessary for human freedom.
The investigation at Moonshine Bar & Grill continues as the team returns to one of Austin's most storied locations. What began as fragments and impressions now deepens, as previous findings are tested, challenged, and expanded. After documenting Moonshine through extensive interviews with owners, long-time staff, former employees, and contractors, clear patterns had emerged: unexplained footsteps near the upstairs offices, objects moving or breaking, sudden injuries, and presences tied to the patio, upstairs office, Kinfolk, and the Sunday House. When the psychic investigation began, each medium was kept blind and separate. Despite that, overlapping impressions surfaced. An aggressive male presence yelling “get out.” A darker energy moving between the patio and the Sunday House loft. An intelligent, non-threatening man with glasses connected to Kinfolk. And a new, unexpected element—a chaotic teenage boy believed to be responsible for many of the accidents reported in recent years. As the night unfolded, even more layers revealed themselves: a protective female presence near the office stairs, a shadowy figure watching from the Sunday House loft, and an Indigenous woman who appeared during a later session with imagery tied to protest, the Capitol, and a much more modern chapter of Austin's history.By the time the first night came to a close, the building was empty, the energy had shifted, and the most pressing questions remained unanswered. Were the psychics accurately tapping into the same experiences staff had described? Were they independently sensing the same presences? And was something still hiding, waiting to be understood? This episode picks up exactly where the investigation left off.EPISODE SPONSORS:AG1Go to drinkag1.com/nightowl to get 3 FREE AG1 Travel Packs and 3 FREE AGZ Travel Packs plus FREE Vitamin D3+K2 and AG1 Welcome Kit with your first AG1 subscription order!BETTERHELPThe Night Owl is sponsored by BetterHelp. This is a Grave Talks CLASSIC EPISODE! PART TWOAn unusual eBay listing led filmmaker Blair Murphy and his friends to an unexpected purchase—the Grand Midway Hotel. What they didn't anticipate was that the building came with far more than history. Though no longer operating as a hotel, the Grand Midway is widely believed to be home to restless spirits that refuse to leave.Blair joins us to explore the hotel's dark and unsettling past. From reports of unsolved murders and human bones discovered within the walls to the tragic story of Martha, a young woman who lost her life after falling from the balcony during a Fourth of July celebration, the building's history is steeped in mystery. Adding to its strange legacy are two Guinness World Records—a massive Ouija board on the rooftop and the world's largest Tarot card overhead. THE ESSENES who wrote the second section of the Book of 1 Enoch, chapters 37–71 (called The Book of Parables), foresaw a coming Savior called the Son of Man. This was a new doctrine for Jews in the 1st century AD. The Zadokite priesthood in Jerusalem believed that faithful adherence to the Law would redeem the world. The Essenes of the Upper Galilee taught that the world had been so corrupted by the rebellious Watchers that only God's direct intervention could make things right. 1 Enoch is the first Jewish writing to put forward this doctrine, and the first to called the agent of God's divine judgment the Anointed One, the Chosen One, and The Son of Man. And it's clear in the text that the Son of Man is God Himself: For this purpose he became the Chosen One; he was concealed in the presence of (the Lord of the Spirits) prior to the creation of the world, and for eternity. (1 Enoch 48:6, Charlesworth translation) Here are the Bible verses about angels Derek referred to: “See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that in heaven their angels always see the face of my Father who is in heaven…” (Matt. 18:10, ESV) Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. (Heb. 13:2, ESV) Sharon's niece, Sarah Sachleben, has been diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer, and the medical bills are piling up. If you are led to help, please go to GilbertHouse.org/hopeforsarah. Our new book The Gates of Hell is now available in paperback, Kindle, and as an audiobook at Audible! Jan 23, 2026 - Brett HarppBrett Harpp, LMHC-D, known as The Haunted Therapist, is a licensed mental health counselor and trauma therapist who helps people heal from emotional “haunts”—the lingering memories, experiences, and unresolved trauma that continue to influence us long after they have passed. With a compassionate, grounded approach, Brett works with clients to safely explore the internal landscapes shaped by past experiences, offering tools to bring understanding, relief, and lasting emotional healing.Blending evidence-based therapies such as EMDR and parts work with powerful paranormal metaphors, Brett uniquely reframes trauma as something that can be acknowledged rather than feared. By exploring how the “ghosts” of the past show up in thoughts, behaviors, and emotional responses, she helps clients integrate these experiences instead of being controlled by them. Her work bridges psychology and symbolism, empowering people to reclaim their lives, find meaning in their stories, and move forward with strength and clarity.Spaced Out Radio is your nightly source for alternative information, starting at 9pm Pacific, 12am Eastern. What's more punk rock than opening a cocktail bar in a strip mall? A psychedelic harp maybe? Bartender and lifelong musician Paul Finn knows a little something about both after opening up Little Gem in Chapel Hill, NC. Together with Greg, Sother and Damon he unpacks his philosophy for hiring, training and explaining new concepts to guests, making the transition from bartender to bar owner, and of course how his love of music built the concept for his new bar, consciously or otherwise.PLUS, Happy Burns Night lads and lassies!
