Tze Chun and Brendan Hay sit down with me to talk fatherhood. We talk about the values they look to instill into their kids. In addition they share life lessons that their kids have taught them. Tze Chun is a writer, director, producer, and visual artist based in Los Angeles, CA. He's been a writer and producer on Fox's hit Batman prequel show Gotham. He also wrote and directed the award-winning films Windowbreaker (Sundance 2007), Children of Invention (Sundance 2009) and the Bryan Cranston thriller Cold Comes The Night (Sony). He is currently creator and showrunner of an animated Gremlins prequel Gremlins: Secrets of The Mogwai for Warner Bros and Amblin, premiering on Max on May 23, 2023. We're back with another Quickies review. This time, Aaron and Alex discuss a batch of new #1 issues including two beloved licensed properties and two issues from new publisher TSK Studios. Overall, we mostly liked all these books, especially the stuff from TKO Studios. As with all our Quickie reviews, we gave ourselves a 5 minute time limit to discuss each book, but we liked Goodnight Paradise so much that we give it an extra 5 minutes because the rules are made up and the points don't matter. Angry Asian Man talks to writer/director Tze Chun about painting Ryan Gosling's portrait, working with Bryan Cranston and writing one of television's first and only Asian American kisses.
Tze (pronounced "Z") Chun is a filmmaker working out of NYC and LA. He was born in Chicago and raised outside of Boston, and received his bachelor's degree in film studies at Columbia University.As a painter and visual artist, Tze has been represented at CVZ Contemporary gallery in Soho, and has commissioned portraits in private residences in New York City, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Boston, and New Orleans. Tze also painted the original artwork for the Academy-Award nominated Half Nelson as well as the children's book drawings used in the film.Tze's short film Windowbreaker, made for $600, was selected to play at mant high-profile film festivals including Sundance. A feature length version of the film Children of Invention has also screened at Sundance and has won awards at film festivals worldwide. It is about two young children living outside Boston that are left to fend for themselves when their mother gets embroiled in a pyramid scheme and disappears.Tze has been named one of Filmmaker Magazine's "25 New Faces of Independent Film." He is working on a number of projects including, You're A Big Girl Now, a film about his mother's childhood growing up in a Singaporean brothel, based on two years of research and interviews.
