You can't outrun a bad diet—but it turns out you might not even be able to outrun a good one. In this episode of A Whole New Level, evolutionary anthropologist Dr. Herman Pontzer joins Mike Haney to dismantle the "armchair view" of metabolism and explain why more exercise doesn't necessarily mean more calories burned.Drawing on his groundbreaking research with the Hadza hunter-gatherer community and global meta-analyses, Dr. Pontzer explains the Constrained Energy Model: the phenomenon where our bodies hit a metabolic ceiling and begin "trading off" energy from vital systems like immunity and reproduction to account for physical activity. This conversation reframes weight loss not as a simple math problem of "calories in vs. calories out," but as a dynamic, evolutionary balancing act.Sign Up to Get Your Free Ultimate Guide to Glucose: https://levels.link/wnlIn this episode, we cover:The Myth of Additive Energy: Why adding a 300-calorie run to your day doesn't actually result in 300 extra calories burned over the long term. The Hadza Paradox: How hunter-gatherers who walk miles every day burn the same amount of total energy as sedentary Westerners.Metabolic Trading: How your body "pays" for exercise by dialing down inflammation, stress responses, and reproductive hormones. The Business of the Body: Why the human body acts less like a simple machine and more like a corporation reallocating a limited budget. The "Set Point" Debate: Whether our bodies are tracking pounds on a scale or the flow of energy in the gut.Practical Weight Management: Why diet is the primary tool for weight, while exercise is the primary tool for everything else.
Is it really possible to have an “acidic vagina” from taking too many probiotics? Why are we often sold a “Barbie doll” version of what our anatomy “should” look like? And, how do you actually start exercising as a self-proclaimed “lazy girl”? In this episode, Claire and Dr Mariam speak to Dr Mandy Hagstrom, an accredited exercise scientist and Associate Professor at UNSW, to find out how to get the biggest bang for your buck when it comes to exercise. They discuss the “weekend warrior” approach, why women might need less exercise than men to see the same longevity benefits and they explore cardio vs weight training. They also talk about why your exercise timing doesn't actually matter, debunking the social media myth that fasted morning workouts are the magic pill for fat loss. Plus, in Med School, we dive into the world of "spicy" vaginas. We look at the viral claim of "acidic vagina" syndrome, whether you can actually overdose on probiotics and why your lady parts are essentially a self-cleaning oven that doesn't need micromanaging. And, in our Quick Consult, Dr Mariam answers Amelia’s question about whether it’s normal for her vulva to be wrinkly or discoloured. We strip away the expectations and celebrate the "50 shades of beige, pink and purple" that make up real, healthy anatomy. Here's the thing. If you're like most healing arts professionals, you sell your time.Five sessions. Ten sessions. Maybe a package here or there. But what if you focused on your expertise, and the transformation your clients get when they work with you? What if you designed your practice around that instead? In this conversation, Joanna Sapir and I explore what it means to create structured client programs — intentional journeys that guide someone from where they are to where they want to be — while also bringing more clarity and predictability to your income. If you're tired of selling hours for dollars, and looking for a more creative, robust way to design your private practice, this episode may open up a whole new way of thinking. In this episode, you'll hear…The difference between a session package and a truly transformational program. (Such a great shift to make…)How front-end and back-end offers can support both immediate results and long-term healing (and lead to healthy, sustainable client relationships over time.)Why narrowing in on your ideal client actually strengthens your work. (Hmmm…-where have you heard that before?

In today's episode of the Recovered Dad Podcast, we dive into the concept of emotional weightlifting and why it is one of the most important skills a father can build on the recovery journey. What begins as a conversation about fitness and discipline opens into a deeper truth. Most men are not struggling with pxxn because of desire. They are struggling because they were never taught how to sit with pain. We explore how recovery is not about suppressing urges or controlling behavior. It is about building the capacity to stay present with uncomfortable thoughts and emotions without reacting. Using powerful metaphors from physical training, real life stories from fatherhood, and hard earned recovery wisdom, this episode breaks down how emotional intelligence becomes the strongest defense against relapse. This conversation challenges fathers to stop chasing relief and start building strength. Strength that creates safety in the home. Strength that protects children. Strength that leads with peace and power instead of anger and reactivity. If you are a dad struggling with pxxn, emotional overwhelm, or feeling out of control under stress, this episode will reframe recovery as a discipline that changes every area of life. Top 10 Show Highlights [00:33] Welcome back to the Recovered Dad Podcast and the introduction of emotional weightlifting. [01:40] Why most fathers think they have a pxxn problem when the real issue is unresolved pain. [02:10] Pxxn explained as a coping mechanism that almost works and why that makes it dangerous. [03:09] Emotional expansion as a core principle of healthy masculinity and recovery. [04:24] The physical training analogy that explains how emotional capacity is built. [06:20] Recovery defined as learning to sit with uncomfortable thoughts and emotions. [07:46] Emotions as an early warning system instead of something to suppress. [08:45] A raw story about fatherhood, anger, and the danger of reacting without awareness. [11:33] Why emotional intelligence is the strongest defense against pxxn relapse. That diagnosis changed everything for her ... and she shares her experience in her new memoir, Nowhere Girl: Life as a Member of ADHD's Lost Generation. Over the past few years, the rates of adult women receiving ADHD diagnoses have risen dramatically. So why were these women overlooked for so long? And where do they go from here? Using weights in your resistance training is a great way to add strength and stability to your weekly workouts. But what if you don't want to build "too much" muscle and feel like you look "bulky"? Does weight training add "bulkiness" to your body? This is a common concern mostly among women who are interested in adding strength but not to the point where they feel uncomfortable. In this episode we break down whether or not weight training you give you a "bulky" look or if this is just a misconception. In This Episode You Will Learn: 1). Some of Meredith's personal experiences in working with clients over the years and some of their thoughts on whether they felt weight training was for them or not. 2). What exactly happens to your body when you train using weights. 3). How diet greatly affects the possibility of getting "bulky" and how much you would really need to eat to get there. 4). The actual everyday benefits that you reap when adding regular strength training and weight training to your workouts. 5). Meredith's best suggestions on how to add strength training to your workouts without the concern of felling "bulky" etc. /// We hope the information we've shared in this episode sheds some light on whether weight lifting will make you feel uncomfortable and "bulky". Doing regular weight training is a great idea no matter what age or gender you are and making sure you feel comfortable with the results is key to continuing your training well into your later years. You are the creator of the change that you do or don't make. Not society. Not your parents. Not your routine.You.There are people who've been weightlifting for 10 years and look like shit. Same with business, relationships, any field. The gap? Mechanical complacency versus being content. When you're mechanically complacent, you're just going through the motions—stale, gray, stagnant. A fish doesn't try to swim. Swimming IS the fish. When you're content, action happens naturally because you've changed your relationship to why you do what you do.Younger me lifted to get a girlfriend. Shallow drive. You never get peak decade-plus results from shallow motivation. Now I lift because it charges me vibrationally. Same action, different essence. Like expensive art—the replica can't capture the vibration of the original. Put the big rocks in the cup first, then the sand fills the cracks. Stretch the elastic band but don't snap it. What if everything you thought about muscle building, fat loss, and strength training was backwards? In this episode of the Metabolic Freedom Podcast, host Ben Azadi sits down with Dr. John Jaquish, biomedical engineer, inventor, and author of Weight Lifting Is a Waste of Time, for a deep-dive conversation that challenges traditional fitness dogma. Dr. Jaquish explains why conventional weightlifting, bulking, and endless cardio are inefficient, unnecessary, and often counter-productive for real body recomposition. He shares the science behind variable resistance training, how high protein intake drives metabolism, why low carbohydrate thresholds matter, and how your body can build muscle and burn fat simultaneously without joint destruction or outdated exercise myths. Whether you lift weights regularly or you've ever felt stuck in your progress, this episode will flip your assumptions about muscle, fat loss, and strength gains — and give you a new framework to achieve both lean muscle and metabolic freedom. Key Topics Covered • Why body recomposition is possible at all fitness levels • How variable resistance training (like X3) outperforms traditional lifting • Why high protein consumption accelerates fat loss • The science behind low carbohydrate thresholds for muscle glycogen • Myths about how much protein the body can absorb • Why calories are a flawed measure for muscle growth • Essential amino acids, creatine, peptides — what works and when • How short, high-intensity training minimizes joint wear • Why traditional cardio rarely drives body recomposition Books Mentioned
