Htay Aung, CEO & Founder of Anywheel, and Jeremy Au talked about three main themes: 1. Early Inspiration and Challenges: Htay detailed his journey from an immigrant student facing cultural and language barriers in Singapore to becoming the founder of Anywheel. His initial inspiration came from dealing with traffic in Sydney and Singapore, which led to the idea of a bike-sharing service during his studies at the University of Sydney in 2017. He recounted the early challenges of integrating into a new culture and educational system, which shaped his entrepreneurial mindset. 2. Operational Learning Curve: Htay described the initial operational challenges of starting Anywheel including assembling the first bicycle at his home to navigating supply chain challenges like sourcing the initial 500 bicycles from manufacturers reluctant to deal with a small startup. He shared insights into early mistakes, such as ordering unassembled bikes, which led to significant logistical challenges. He also detailed how the company integrated IoT technology to enhance operational efficiency and meet regulatory compliance, particularly in response to Singapore's licensing regulations implemented by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) in 2018. 3. Strategic Market Expansion: Htay emphasized strategic and financial decisions made during difficult period and his choice to reject venture capital funding to retain control over the company's strategic direction. He also discussed market expansion strategies and regulatory navigation and how the company adapted to changes and acquired competitors following the LTA's new rules in 2018. He also detailed that the acquisition of SG Bike was not only a business expansion but also a move to consolidate the market and enhance the overall industry reputation by assuming responsibility for its customer commitments. He discussed maintaining ethical business practices, particularly his decision not to charge user deposits—a decision made to foster trust and differentiate Anywheel from competitors like Mobike and Ofo. Jeremy and Htay also talked about the challenges in navigating through the COVID-19 pandemic, the importance of trust, transparency, and hard work within the workplace, and his strategic plans for scaling operations while maintaining a strong focus on sustainability and community impact. On Friday's show: A legal challenge is under way in Louisiana over that state's new law requiring the Ten Commandments to be displayed in school classrooms there. That a suit was brought on behalf of Louisiana families came as no surprise to that state's governor, Jeff Landry, who said before signing the bill: “I can't wait to be sued.” But challenging the limits of Constitutional protections -- isn't that what Texas usually does before anyone else? Lawmakers here certainly tried. We discuss that, the Louisiana law, and what the Texas Legislature might try again to do next session, with Houston Public Media's politics and government reporter Andrew Schneider. Also this hour: We invite listeners to offer suggestions for how they might redesign a Houston road or freeway in some way. Maybe there are speed bumps you want (or don't want), or there's a one-way street you wish wasn't, or there's a median you wish wasn't there. Whatever it is, wherever it is, we want to know about it. You can share your suggestions now at talk@houstonmatters.org.Then, from uncertainty over the future of bike sharing in the city after BCycle shut down, to METRO trains losing their stripes, we discuss The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly of the week. And, with the explosion of streaming services -- and new films being available on them -- we discuss the state of traditional cinema and movie theaters.

Aktuell fehlen in Berlin knapp 100 000 Wohnungen.

On Thursday's show: The nonprofit that runs Houston BCycle, the city's only bike share system, announced last week the program would be shutting down due to multiple issues. But that might not be the case now after Mayor Sylvester Turner said he will ask City Council to approve funding to save it. Also this hour: We discuss the potential end of BCycle and other issues facing cyclists in the city with Joe Cutrufo of BikeHouston. Then, this month's edition of The Bigger Picture delves into sexual identity and race, which are issues raised in the new film Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe. Města a obce čím dál častěji investují do alternativních forem dopravy.
Sdílená kola pronikají do stále většího počtu měst.

Folge direkt herunterladen

See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Bike sharing was supposed to be the groundbreaking innovation to introduce a much needed new alternative for transportation in Singapore. Yet, the most obvious effect has been hundreds of multi-colored bikes littered on grass patches, ditched in drains, and blocking pathways. So how did all go wrong? And who's to blame in in this situation? In today's episode, we dig into the history and economics of bike sharing to hopefully find the root of the problem. In the end, we'll take a step back and look at the bigger picture, and find why the parking problem isn't the only issue with bike sharing. In this episode, you'll learn about: The history of bike sharing dating back to the 1960s How ofo and Mobike came to be, and how much funding they've received The mechanics of bike sharing, and the key role that technology plays How ofo and mobike differ in their strategies Who the 3 main stakeholders are in relation to bike sharing What the incentives of these stakeholders are, and how they have responded to them How the incentives come into conflict and create the parking problem Whether the new parking places bill will prove effective And finally, the real problem behind bike sharing For more content, you can follow the Economical Rice Podcast at the following links below: Website: www.economicalricepodcast.com Facebook: www.facebook.com/economicalricepodcast Instagram: www.instagram.com/economicalricepodcast Twitter: www.twitter.com/econricepodcast --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/economicalricepodcast/message
In this episode of How Things Grow, we revisit the early days or ridesharing - and look at how bikesharing is beginning to evolve. My guest today is my good friend Dan Riaz. Dan's had a checkered career and an interesting life. Dan managed mobile acquisition at Zynga just when Zynga started to shift its business from web to mobile. He then joined Lyft when they were in just 4 cities to head up their mobile user acquisition. At Lyft, he saw from close up the ascension of the ridesharing industry - and its emergence as the widespread mass market phenomenon it is today. Subsequently, while he was at 500 startups, he worked with Grab Taxi in South East Asia, and catalysed the growth of ridesharing in South East Asia. Afterward, he worked with the bikesharing company Limebike, where he helped drive the early adoption of bikesharing. Dan has been close to the action from the early days of ridesharing and bikesharing. He brings some amazing stories from the time ridesharing was practically at risk of being shut down by the law - to its rapid growth to being an integral part of our lives today. Dan brings a rare level of insight into the very many non-obvious forces that drive the economics of transportation that moves our world today. I'm very excited to bring to you this amazing interview with Dan!Check out the full transcript and show notes here:https://howthingsgrow.co/early-days-ridesharing-dan-riazscaleup-labs-500-startups-ex-lyft-ex-zynga/**Get more goodies here:http://MobileUserAcquisitionShow.comhttp://RocketShipHQ.comhttp://RocketShipHQ.com/blog
with Lee Kleinman (@LeeForDallas), Joshua Schank (@joshuaschank), Andrew Savage, and Hanne Tidnam (@omnivorousread) There's a new wave of bike-sharing in town. But this wave looks a little different than previous waves -- from docked rows of government-funded bikes to dockless fleets of bicycles where users can find and unlock bikes through GPS from anywhere, with an app. What can we learn from previous (unsuccessful and successful) waves, what are the challenges in making bike sharing a real, viable transport option? What does bike sharing data reveal about human travel patterns? And how might dockless bike-sharing change, maybe even reshape, cities of the future? This episode of the a16z Podcast -- including city of Dallas councilmember Lee Kleinman, chairman of their Mobility Solutions, Infrastructure, and Sustainability Committee; Joshua Shank, CIO at the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority; and Andrew Savage, vice president of strategic development at LimeBike; in conversation with a16z's Hanne Tidnam -- looks at the trend of dockless bike sharing in cities. image credit: Joe Wolf/ Flickr The views expressed here are those of the individual AH Capital Management, L.L.C.
