P. #315 - Reclaiming Our Magic, an interview with Witchpreneur and podcaster, Julie Foucht I am thrilled to welcome Julie Foucht back to Empowering Chats for another in depth chat about the work she does including the magic of women and how we can reclaim our voice. In this chat we discuss "witch wounds" and how, as a collective, we can raise our vibration. And through collaboration circles we can co-create new rules of behavior in both business and personal relationships. According to Julie, for many years we played the game of patriarchy. In this game when a man has power it is celebrated. If we have male witches they are revered, brilliant healers. In this game women are made to serve men. For much of that time when the feminine came into this game we said "okay we'll serve." But the times are changing and women are ready to create a new game. Julie believes the Patriarchy is shoving back saying they want new rules and they want to play this "new" game together. And yet they are also fighting this new way of being because there are no rules and what we are seeing is bullying tactics and lower vibration energy. Both Julie and I believe we are here right now to integrate our shadow pieces and go back to our wholeness. It's about bringing the shadow side into the light and recognizing it for what it is. There is a part of us that wants to control what people do because we think our way is the "right" way. And so how do we reintegrate those shadow parts of ourselves in a way that it changes the way the world operates? That is the work I believe we are all here to do. In this episode of Quality Matters, we dive into the complexities of behavioral health care with Julie Seibert, Assistant Vice President of Behavioral Health at NCQA, and Tom Tsang, founding CEO and Chief Strategy Officer at Valera Health. Together, they explore the interconnected challenges of access, quality and payment in behavioral health, emphasizing the need to treat the whole person by addressing both mental and physical health. Julie highlights NCQA's three-part framework for behavioral health—access, quality, and payment—emphasizing that linking these elements is critical in improving care.Tom shares how conversations around mental health have changed since the pandemic, making the connection between behavioral health and physical health more clear. He discusses the ripple effects of mental health conditions on chronic disease management and diverse societal problems, such as rising rates of adolescent substance abuse and suicide. Both Julie and Tom reflect on the potential of innovations like measurement-based care, telehealth and value-based payment models to expand access and improve outcomes. They also discuss ongoing systemic barriers, including a shortage of providers who accept insurance.Julie and Tom shine a light on emerging solutions, from CMS payment reforms to NCQA's development of quality measures tailored for behavioral health. This discussion offers invaluable insights into addressing the urgent need for accessible, high-quality behavioral health care that meets the needs of an increasingly diverse America.--Key Quote: “Access, quality and payment are tied together. If payment models are not sufficient to cover costs of care, you have fewer practitioners that provide services. And if there are fewer practitioners, it's difficult to have access. If there are not enough people to permit sufficient access, that lowers quality. They're all inextricably combined.”-Julie Seibert“People recognize that it does impact our physical health and that we have to take into account physical and mental health as a whole. People with chronic medical conditions, 30 to 40 percent of their total cost of care could be impacted by their mental health conditions. A lot of people have changes in morbidity and mortality because of loneliness. Depression can impact someone's intake of food consumption, impacting fasting glucose and adherence to medical management of their chronic illnesses. We've also seen the impact on the child and adolescent population in terms of learning disabilities, teenage suicides, drug use, alcohol consumption. We've seen all of that happen over the last five years.”-Tom Tsang--Time Stamps:(00:30) The Complexity of Behavioral Health(03:18) A 3-Pronged Model for Behavioral Health(06:23) Quality Dimensions in Behavioral Health(08:42) Bringing Value-Based Care to Behavioral Health(11:57) Payment Models and Challenges in Behavioral Health(15:25) Telehealth in Behavioral Health: Opportunities and Challenges--Links:NCQA White Paper: Developing a Behavioral Health Quality FrameworkConnect with Julie SeibertConnect with Tom Tsang

A couple of episodes ago ( and we encourage you to go back to it prior to listening to today) - Julie Kelly and Stigall discussed some former federal agents-turned whistle blowers who have shows of their own now. Specifically a man named Kyle Seraphin who has publicly suggested Julie is engaging in "click bait whoring" and misrepresenting the raid on Trump's home in her reporting. Both Julie and Dan Bongino have now locked horns with Mr. Seraphin and that led Stigall to ask what was going on here? After the discussion, many friends, family, and associates of Seraphin's reached out to Stigall demanding Seraphin get a fair hearing on the show after Julie's visit. You'll hear that discussion today and why Stigall thinks its pretty important we're all eyes-wide-open in this highly volatile time in American history. It's not about a petty personality dispute for Stigall. It's about who's on the side of stopping this thuggish, weaponized DOJ against our fellow Americans. -For more info visit the official website: https://chrisstigall.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/chrisstigallshow/Twitter: https://twitter.com/ChrisStigallFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/chris.stigall/Listen on Spotify: https://tinyurl.com/StigallPodListen on Apple Podcasts: https://bit.ly/StigallShowSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Chris Bennett is a pastor, storyteller, writer, and producer originally from Dallas, Texas. Julie Bennett is a writer, producer, speaker, and two-time cancer survivor from Edmond, Oklahoma. Together, Chris and Julie are the founders of Welcome Home Lifestyle, a production company which exists to create and promote content celebrating healthy, thriving families, friendships, and communities. Their love for people and entertainment led them and their four kids to uproot their lives and relocate from Oklahoma to Los Angeles in 2018. Shortly after moving to Los Angeles, Julie was diagnosed with breast cancer, which she bravely battled over the next three years. Faced with a cancer diagnosis, relapse, and worldwide pandemic, Chris and Julie would come to redefine the ways in which they care for others, both as a nuclear family and as part of a broader community. Both Julie and Chris are graduates of Baylor University and have spent the majority of their 23 years of marriage working in vocational ministry. Through overwhelming challenges, they have learned how to fight for the things that matter and devote themselves to helping others do the same. Alongside their passion for building belonging for others, they love nothing more than beach football, spontaneous road trips, and throwing a good party. Chris and Julie are also co-hosts of the Becoming Family podcast and are in the process of developing a docs-series where they explore the power and diversity of family through the stories of those who have experienced it. The Bennetts currently reside in Malibu, CA where Chris serves as lead pastor of Vintage Church Malibu. ABOUT THE BOOK Fighting for Family: The Relentless Pursuit of Building Belonging When Chris and Julie Bennett and their four kids decided to move from Norman, Oklahoma, to Los Angeles, they knew they were setting out on a great adventure. They'd be leaving behind the church Chris and Julie had pastored, the comfort of their community, and the familiarity of their daily routines, but the new city promised to bring some much-needed change. Most of all, they looked forward to connecting with others in one of the most disconnected cities in the United States. What they didn't expect was how this adventure – complicated by a cancer diagnosis, a relapse, and a worldwide pandemic – would challenge their notions of what it means to care for each other well, both as a nuclear family and as part of a broader community. It turns out that becoming family is stressful, messy, exhausting – and absolutely, totally worth fighting for. In a time when so many suffer from loneliness and it feels like developing authentic relationships is impossible, Chris and Julie invite you to step into their story to discover the fundamentals that lead to healthy, thriving families and friendships. You'll discover the power of embracing vulnerability, accepting imperfection, and extending forgiveness, while finding fulfillment through enforcing boundaries and honoring and serving others. In this episode, we travel with Julie to Chinatown and learn how to solve a crime after dinnertime. While reeling from roommate news and the discovery of a puzzling note, Julie has enough on her plate when she decides to visit The Happy Panda, Ivy's family's restaurant. Glam & Grow - Fashion, Beauty, and Lifestyle Brand Interviews
When Co-Founders Julie Sawaya and Ryan Woodbury decided to undergo nutrient testing, they were shocked to learn that despite eating and doing all of the "right things," they had serious nutrient deficiencies. Food alone wasn't meeting their needs. Both Julie and Ryan were seriously deficient in Omega-3 and other key nutrients for fertility, pregnancy, and postpartum well-being. As they set out on their own pregnancy journeys, they started doing the research and realized a brand centered around nourishment with better supplements was desperately "needed." Nearly all women have nutrient deficiencies, and prenatal vitamins were not making up the difference. Despite 97% of women in the US taking a prenatal supplement, 95%+ are still deficient. Their mission is to empower real nourishment in women on their journey to motherhood. They do this by helping mamas and mamas-to-be better identify their nutrition needs, creating supplements that truly work in meeting those needs, and building a supportive community of like-minded mamas and trusted health practitioners.Julie also shares:Her own personal journey of motherhoodHow building a practitioner partner community is the foundation of the brandWhy finding the right person to fund the brand with empathy was essentialExpansion plans You'll also hear Julie's biggest insights and what's next for Needed. We hope you enjoy this episode and gain valuable insights into Julie's journey and the growth of her brand. Despite raising over $1 billion in 2022, peer-to-peer fundraising often fails to receive the recognition it deserves in the world of development and even from the top leadership within nonprofit organizations. There is an ever-present notion that "Walks are dead," but these misguided voices fail to comprehend the true power of peer-to-peer fundraising. In fact, peer-to-peer fundraising is the most democratic form of fundraising, empowering individuals directly affected by our mission to come together and raise funds to combat challenges, seek cures, promote accessibility in treatments, and create a better world. It is only when organizational leaders grasp the potential of peer-to-peer fundraising that we can elevate our efforts to unparalleled levels of success. In this inaugural episode, P2PPF's Marcie Maxwell is joined by Julie Fleshman, President & CEO of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN) and Peter Cashion, Purple Stride team captain and member of the PanCAN Board of Directors. In this latest episode of our "How to Teach Your Kids About Money" podcast, hosts Alec and Julie talk about the evolution of Julie's teenage daughter from a spender to a savvy budgeter. Cassidy loves expensive clothes and accessories, but through consistent practice with money and monthly allowance days, she's learned the value of money and budgeting. She even makes money by selling clothes or doing extra work around the house! They also discuss the value of cash, and how to teach kids about always having some on hand. Alec and Julie also discuss how cash can make money transactions more tangible and concrete for kids, rather than them always using electronic payments. Some parents might be new to the idea that debit cards and other forms of e-payment should be eased in slowly after their children have had lots of practice with cash. Some key takeaways: * Julie has seen their teenage Cassidy become more disciplined about her spending habits, which has led to less conflict. * Although Cassidy likes to buy expensive, trendy clothes, she now understands the value of a dollar in terms of how many hours she needs to work to earn the money she'd like to supplement her allowance with. * Cassidy no longer spends her money regularly at Starbucks, now that it's coming out of her own pocket. * Both Julie and Alec are excited to see their children become more interested in investments and donations, and they feel that their children are becoming more money savvy as a result. * Their kids' interest in investments has led to interesting conversations about sustainability credits and carbon emissions between them and their friends. * It's also sparking conversations around money between the parents and their kids, which Julie didn't experience growing up. Money was a taboo topic for kids in her family. * For Julie, this whole experience feels like a mix of parenting and money education, since she is learning along with her kids. * Paying with cash or credit cards creates an opportunity for parents to have a conversation about money with their kids. * Conversations about the cost of meals and restaurants can help teach children about the value of money, as in the case of Alec using Apple Pay at a pizza place recently. * People tend to overspend on takeout because they do not think about the cost. The actual transaction of money creates more awareness of the spend. * Having cash is still important, as some places may only accept cash. * Cash is an incredible tool to use with kids because it's tangible and concrete. * It is important to teach kids the value of coins, since they can add up! * The transition to using a debit card should be gradual, with parents still doling out cash during allowance and adding a debit card to the process. * Teaching kids about budgeting and saving can be done by setting goals, creating a budget, and through the monthly allowance day practice (a.k.a. COR Day). * Alec and Julie are watching their children become more money savvy in real time, and they're excited to see where this will lead. With patience and consistent practice, our kids can become financially responsible adults. Remember, you really are the best person to teach your kids about money! ======================= In this episode: - Alec Lindenauer, COR's Chief Allowance Officer and Financial Advisor - Julie Frans, COR's Chief Community Officer ======================= Want more resources to teach your child about money? Steve and Brodie talk with Julie Adams, co-founder of Chemo@Home, who with her business partner Lorna Cook has scaled up the home-based infusion service to more than 100 staff over the past 9 years. Both Julie and Lorna mortgaged their houses to fund the business, which quadrupled in size during Covid. 1,400 doctors across the country use the service, and more and more patients can have their chemotherapy and other care therapies in their own home. “I asked him what it was like for him, and he said – ‘I used to spend all day travelling to the hospital and back, getting my treatment, it was so stressful. I did that twice a week. But the difference it made to me was nothing compared to the difference it made to my wife' … It's like you're giving people back their lives, and there's nothing that matches that feeling.” ~ Julie Adams For more: https://chemoathome.com.au/ ~ Startup West is recorded at Riff studios in beautiful downtown Perth, Western Australia; produced by Startup News, edited by Carmen Yee Kai Wen and brought to you thanks to support from Spacecubed, Curtin University, RSM, the City of Perth, Dinner Twist and Tekkon. Get-It-Done Guy's Quick and Dirty Tips to Work Less and Do More
There's a lot of buzz these days around the concepts of Inclusion and Belonging. We know they are important drivers of employee engagement and retention. We all want to experience inclusion and belonging and to help create that same experience for colleagues and team members around us. But how to make that happen can sometimes feel mysterious.I had the opportunity to speak with Bain & Company's Julie Coffman and Nishma Gosrani. Julie is Bain's Chief Diversity Officer and the leader of their Global Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion practice. Nishma is a partner in Bain's Financial Services practice whose work focuses on human capital transformation and the future of work and culture. Both Julie and Nishma bring a wealth of data-backed research and their own personal experience to the table in this rich conversation around what truly drives the experience of Inclusion and Belonging at work and what actions any of us can take as leaders or just citizens in order to amplify those experiences for ourselves and those around us.Modern Mentor is hosted by Rachel Cooke and is a part of Quick and Dirty Tips.Find Modern Mentor on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, or subscribe to the newsletter to get more tips to fuel your professional success.Links: https://www.quickanddirtytips.com/https://www.quickanddirtytips.com/modern-mentor-newsletterhttps://www.facebook.com/QDTModernMentorhttps://twitter.com/QDTModernMentorhttps://www.linkedin.com/company/modern-mentor-podcast/https://www.leadabovenoise.com/

In this episode I will visit with my dear friends, Julie Wyma and Anastasia Nikolov, founders of Opera Programs Berlin. Both Julie and Anastasia went through traditional conservatory training, and were both taken aback by the insistence that there's only one prescribed path to success in opera. Their answer to filling the gaps in vocal education was to create http://www.operaprogramsberlin.com (Opera Programs Berlin,) an online and in-person opera academy which has grown exponentially over the last year in the online space. As an educator, Julie's passion lies in helping singers make the transition from student to professional, and in guiding talented people to the places where they are needed. She has served as a vocal coach, preparing singers for auditions and talent competitions, as well as an audition panelist and advisor. With organizations such as Opera Programs Berlin, Dramatic Voices Program Berlin, Irrational Entertainment, Midwest Early Opera Works, Voci Inglesi, Berlin Wagner Gruppe and Berliner Opernverein, she has facilitated performance opportunities for singers seeking additional stage experience and the chance to hone their craft in a supportive, professional environment. As a professional operatic soprano she has performed more than 25 roles, including die Königin der Nacht and Pamina in Die Zauberflöte, Rosina in I barbiere di Siviglia, Adele in Die Fledermaus, Gilda in Rigoletto, Marie in Die verkaufte Braut, Musetta in La Bohème, Sophie in Werther, Gretel in Hänsel und Gretel, the Waldvogel in Siegfried, and Norina in Don Pasquale. Of her Norina, the Kansas City Metropolis said: “soprano Julie Wyma sparkled with a self-confident air and a strong, beautiful voice.” An active concert performer and recitalist, her recent appearances include concerts at the US Consul General in Düsseldorf and the Residence of the US Ambassador to Germany in Berlin; a song recital at the University of Pittsburg at Greensburg; Lovers' Quarrels, a concert of operatic duets and arias in Concord, New Hampshire and Niemegk, Germany; Three Tenors and a Soprano concerts in Cornish and New London, New Hampshire; and Viva Divas!, a concert of operatic arias, duets, and trios in Cornish, New Hampshire, Phoenix, Arizona and Berlin, Germany. Soprano Anastasia Nikolov started her musical training at the age of 5, studying piano. She was a member of the Bulgarian National Theater Youth Ensemble, where she was cast in numerous main stage and touring productions. Her training at the National Theatre included acting, improvisation, Latin and folk dance. Other musical studies also included percussion and classical guitar. Ms. Nikolov is a champion of new music. She has premiered works by prominent American and British composers such as Vartan Aghababian, Michael Djupstrom, Victoria Ellis, Heather Gilligan and Eric Sawyer; some of these works were written and dedicated to her. In addition to numerous song cycles and solo concert works with orchestra, she also created the role of Anna von Mildenburg in the new piece Geboren Alma Schindler (Berliner Opern Verein); the role of Member of the Chamber in the premiere performance of Eric Sawyer's Our American Cousin (Composers in Red Sneakers); and the title role in the world premiere of Victoria Ellis' opera Darling (One of Us Foundation). In Today's Episode#18 We Have 2 very Special guests, Author and Researchers Andrew and Julia Oien, who have first published SOUTHWEST UFO TRIANGLE THEORY, and most recently Alien Park, Dunes! The research that Andy and Julia are doing is extremely interesting, and when I first read about there work and watched the videos on Youtube, I was hooked right away, which is why I had to ask them to come on UFO Encounters World Wide so we could share this information with all you listeners! Julie was born, raised and lives in Southern California. She found herself in the world of engineering (rocket ships to the moon type of stuff) after getting an education in computer sciences. She was in software sales for 20 years. Currently she helps run a business with her brother in communications. She's more of a spiritualist, so finding her husband whose eyes were towards the sky only made sense. She has been married for 25 years, just about as long as this journey has been in writing these books. She and her husband, Andrew, have a 23 year old daughter Lauren that they are proud to have as their book illustrator. Lauren is currently in art school, getting her degree in Game Art. Julie has always had a fascination of the probability of life on other planets. As she put it, “It's too big of a space for us to be alone”. Andrew or Andy was born, raised and lives in Southern California. He has had an interest in Sci-Fi movies from the time he could watch them in the 1960's. As a child and young teen he had a high interest in reading the investigative stories of the Hardy Boys and Sherlock Holmes. He was a Boy Scout and is a Military Veteran. Andrew served 5 years in the Navy working in ship safety and navigation (Quartermaster). 3 of those years were on a submarine. His interest in the 1947 Roswell Incident began when his brother Greg handed him a book on the subject in the early 1990's. He began his research and writing after a visit to Roswell, New Mexico in 1996 with his wife Julie. Andrew published his first book, SOUTHWEST UFO TRIANGLE THEORY in 2013. Ufology is one of his interesting past times. He has worked as a Mechanical Designer and Drafter for 25 plus years. He has been happily married to Julie for 25 years and their daughter, Lauren, 23, is currently enrolled in Art College. Both Julie and Lauren were a great help to Andrew in creating their new book, Alien Park, Dunes that published November 2018. Andrew and Charles C. Brooks co-wrote a movie screenplay for Alien Park, Dunes in 2020 and created an Alien Park, Dunes Storyboard YouTube in 2021. Now, you might think that Brady & Radogno sounds like a legal firm. It is NOT. In fact, the only one on this podcast legally allowed to provide legal advice is the host. But you would not want to follow it. However, Julie Brady and Celeste Radogno have more than just legal studies in common. They are White Sox fans! Also, ace writers with a taste for both the wry and the absurd. If Brett Ballantini was smarter, he'd be studying law with them. Or, maybe just fixing the game snax. Julie was kind enough to pause her relentless Minor League Update writing, and Celeste her move south, to chat with Brett about the White Sox of mid-August 2021, and more: Three laypeople's takes on Lance Lynn's belt removal during Wednesday night's ballgame Given one of the three was currently encircled and perhaps even threatened by corn for miles and miles, how'd we assess the Field of Dreams game last week? As seen dozens of times on Twitter @DestroyBaseball, Julie offers the origin story of Maroon 5: The Menacing Did Celeste really melt the internet with a photo of a footlong hot dog? Do tube steak fundamentalists really exist? Both Julie and Celeste have been to live games, Celeste in four major league parks this season. What were the experiences, given the continuing pandemic? Oh, it's a leading question, but is it possible that MLB could do a worse job marketing the game to anyone beyond stool bros? There is a unanimous answer to whether these three would remain White Sox fans if a family like the Ricketts controlled the ballclub Pet cameos: Chico Marx yes, Vinny no. Join Read Into This host Beth Lyons as she explores how virtual read alouds have been used with fellow teacher-librarian Julie Vandendool and kindergarten educator Aviva Dunsiger throughout the 2020-2021 school year. Our discussion stems from a Twitter thread between the three of us looking at why read alouds seemed to have been more successful when in a virtual space than in the bricks-and-mortar space while following safety protocols. How do we balance supporting the literacy needs and sharing of stories with students and educators using virtual tools with the power we know that comes from small group discussions and the connections made when talking about the books together? Both Julie and Beth reflect on how the act of sharing stories in a large school-wide setting using virtual tools allowed for a small act of community gathering in a year when we were all so far apart. How can we engage in a story and the learning connected to themes and inquiry sparks when working with grades ranging from kindergarten to Grade 8. We know that stories act as “mirrors, windows and sliding glass doors” (Rudine Sims Bishop) but how have they also acted as “keys” (Julie Vandendool) to a shared common space? Or “If only I knew then what I know now”. But unfortunately, there is nothing we can do to change the past. Fortunately, we can learn from our own past as well as the past of others to make our future bright despite our mistakes. And because we all hear the regretful almost-retiree talking about starting earlier, I figured it could be helpful for all of us to see an example of why investing early and consistently makes such a difference. Or in other words, why it pays to be the tortoise instead of the hare in the race of an incredible retirement and a robust TSP. In this example, our tortoise fed is named Julie and our hare fed is name Robert. They both start their careers at 27 and both make $75,000/year. We'll assume that their salary stays the same for their entire career to keep the numbers easy. Julie, right out of the gate, decides to invest 10% of her salary into the TSP. She got used to living on the lower amount and never thought much about it. Robert, on the other hand, decides that he is very far from retirement and will opt out of the TSP for now. Now let's fast forward 10 years. Both Julie and Robert are 37 and they both think about their TSP again. Julie realizes that she has already accumulated $169,781 (we'll assume a 8% return for this entire example) and is pleasantly surprised. Robert talks to Julie and realizes that he really needs to start using his TSP. He decides to take a pretty drastic cut to his lifestyle to start contributing 10% of his salary into the TSP as well. Fast forward 10 years again. They are both 47 and Julie now has $536,325 in her TSP and Robert has $169,781. They talk again and Robert gets fiercely competitive. He wants to contribute more than Julie so he takes another drastic cut to his lifestyle and starts contributing 20% of his salary into his TSP. Julie decides to stick to her 10%. Fast forward 10 years one last time. They are both 57 and Julie is ready to retire. She has accumulated a whopping $1,327,666 in her TSP and she has plenty to cover the gap between now and when she starts drawing social security at 70 so that she can get higher social security payments. She is confident in her retirement and her financial freedom. She buys a vacation home and lives a comfortable life. Robert has done pretty well too. He has accumulated $649,643 in his TSP but decides to work a few extra years because he doesn't want to eat through a major portion of his TSP trying to fill the gap before he starts social security. He too has a good retirement but definitely doesn't have the same cushion and freedom that Julie now enjoys. In the end, Julie ended up with more than twice the amount of retirement savings than Robert but this is not very surprising by itself. The surprising part shows up when we look at how much they each put into the TSP themselves. This charts makes it a little easier to see: Both Julie and Robert contributed the same amount to their TSP accounts during their careers but when they contributed it made all the difference in the world. Julie was consistent the whole time while Robert had a late start and rushed to catch up near the end. And while the details and amounts are different, I have seen this same story play out over and over again in real life. There are those feds that start early and stay consistent and are pleasantly...

In this episode, we’re talking about writing and publishing books. Almost everyone has a book inside of them waiting to be written. You don’t have to be an entrepreneur who wants to spread your message and grow your empire to write a book, either. You could be a doctor looking to share nutritious recipes you’ve crafted for your patients. You could even have a full-time job and a great career, but want to write the Great American Novel to express your creative energy. No matter what you write about, you’ll ultimately have to choose how you’re going to share your book with the world. At that point, you’ll have to decide between self-publishing or working with an imprint of a publishing house. I’ve personally been thinking about writing a book for a very long time. I’ve attended a number of conferences, learned what it’s like to self-publish, and taken a $5,000 course on how to publish traditionally. After doing all of this research, I decided not to write a book at the time, but as my business has grown, I’m actually reconsidering. What I learned from my experience was this: there’s no 100% right way to go. There’s a lot to learn about both methods, and there’s no clear evidence that one is more profitable than the other. What you can clearly understand, however, is how to plan for what writing your book is going to cost you in terms of money and time. For today’s episode of Profit Boss® Radio, I’m speaking to two experts on this subject. First, I’m joined by Julie Broad. Julie is an Amazon Overall #1 bestselling author, an International Book Award Winner, and recipient of the Beverly Hills Book Award for Best Sales Book. Through her company, Book Launchers, she helps entrepreneurs and professionals write, publish, and sell business and brand boosting books without giving up their rights or royalties. After my conversation with Julie, I’m speaking with Joelle Hann. Joelle is the founder of Brooklyn Book Doctor. She’s ghostwritten, collaborated, edited and developed books with top CEOs and humanitarian activists, coaches and journalists, scholars and entrepreneurs, and many others. Joelle also actively writes and publishes her own work, so she knows what it means to be coached and edited. Her signature program, Book Proposal Academy, helps authors write winning book proposals that help them land agents and get attention from traditional publishing houses. Both Julie and Joelle are also currently available for consulting, and you’re going to hear an exclusive offer from each of them if you’re ready to bring your book into the world. So, are you ready to hear all about what it’s really like to publish a book, learn from the experts’ big wins, and find out about the mistakes you need to avoid? Then you don’t want to miss this episode. Tune in to Profit Boss® Radio today! Here’s what you’ll find out in this week’s episode of Profit Boss® Radio: How to approximate the costs of writing a book - and why not to assume it will ever pay for itself. Why authors need to be thinking like marketers regardless of whether or not they partner with a publisher. Why writers who have had success with traditional publishers are now choosing to self-publish. The difference between self-publishing and hybrid self-publishing - and why Julie isn’t a fan of hybrid. How much you can expect to pay for a highly experienced ghost writer. The difference between a developmental editor, a copy editor, and a proofreader - and why you need all three. How the most successful self-published authors are achieving massive sales numbers - and how Julie’s book, after being rejected by a major publisher, generated six figures in revenue and attracted serious interest from future business partners. The biggest mistakes that self-publishers make and how to avoid them. What expenses to budget for in order to meaningfully launch a self-published book. When you should consider working with a traditional publisher. What traditional publishers are looking for - and why you don’t need to be a celebrity to get a book deal, but you do need to have an extra oomph to get readers excited. The step by step process of getting a literary agent - and what to do if it doesn’t go anywhere. Why the era of the six-figure book deal is over - and the hidden costs that can lead you to spending more than your advance when working with traditional publishers. The main reason that books fall apart - and why brainstorming and outlining your book before you write can save you hours, if not months, of frustration. How one of Joelle’s first-time authors ended up in a five-way bidding war for her book. Author: Natalie Hoidal. Interviewees: Julie Weisenhorn and Nathan HechtIn episode 25 of What's Killing My Kale, Natalie talked with Extension Educator Julie Weisenhorn, and recently graduated horticulture master's student Nathan Hecht. Both Julie and Nathan have been studying how flowering plants near fruit and vegetable plots impact pollination and fruit set. While we generally know that adding flowering plants to the landscape is good for pollinators and beneficial insects, we wanted to dig deeper and learn how much of an impact flowering plants can have, how to go about selecting the proper plants, and how the broader landscape impacts results. This is a longer episode, but it's packed with insight and good discussion. You can listen to and download the episode here. What's Killing my Kale is also available on iTunes. Okay, listeners, let's get awk with The Outsider. Everyone’s feeling alienated this episode. Seth’s on the outside when Ryan gets a new job (and friend). Both Julie and Kirsten feel awkward AF at their spa weekend with the “May I speak to your manager?” club. Donny is definitely an outsider (and literal psychopath) but hey, “life is what you make it.” Follow us! Haley - @_haleyjayne Miranda - @hamandjams The Pod - @newportbeachpod
Today on the show we have Julie and Jeff Sage-Lauck from the blog { The Joy Ride } who just wrapped up a 1 year RV adventure throughout the United States and parts of Canada with their 2 small kids. Originally from Colorado they moved to Oregon and lived for 5 years before the Rv Adventure. Their life is Portland was good they just both felt it could be more. After a couple of life circumstances seemed to be pointing to this new direction they began to plan and prepare for this big of a trip. Both Julie and Jeff had done traveling before kids and before they got married. So this time they were excited to plan something they knew the kids (and the dog) could enjoy as well! We got to catch up with them near the end of their trip while they were still in Canada and hear about their highs and lows of the trip as well as some lessons they learned along the way. Such a great interview packed with lots of great advice!
Julie found out she was pregnant while in stage three kidney failure. When she was in stage four, she got pregnant with her second child. Struggling to survive and maintaining healthy pregnancies weren’t the only health issues Julie faced. She had juvenile diabetes, diabulimia, and autoimmune diseases. Selena Gomez was diagnosed with Lupus (an autoimmune disease that causes the body to attack itself). Early twenties, beautiful, talented, successful, and dealing with a physically and mentally debilitating disease. Both Julie and Selena hit medical roadblocks in their lives, but kept moving forward. How do we continue to fully live our lives when dealing with major health issues?
Two sisters. Same condition. Both blind. Both Julie and Cheryl Gistenson lost their vision due to Axenfeld-Rieger Syndrome. The sisters discuss growing up as one another's supports and what they learned from their father, who is also blind. Bill and the sisters then play a game called "Ask A Blind Person" in which Bill asks questions about blindness that sighted individuals may feel too uncomfortable to ask. About Axenfeld-Rieger Syndrome (ARS): ARS is a condition that causes abnormalities within the eye, particularly in the frontal region near the pupil. Individuals impacted by ARS tend to develop Glaucoma, a condition that creates pressure and subsequent pain behind the eye.
It’s a scenario we’ve all experienced. You go to your OBGYN for your scheduled PAP smear just to get the box ticked on your health check up list, and wait for the Doctor to give you the “all clear.” Is that the best you can do? Is it the best you should do? Let me ask you a couple of very serious questions... How would your confidence, sense of empowerment, and self esteem be different if you knew how to be a more active participant in your own feminine health? What if you could truly understand your hormonal and reproductive health, and know the right steps to take in order to keep yourself in a state of optimal health in those areas? That may sound like a pipe dream, or something that’s going to require a lot more minutia than you want to invest. But think about it for just a second… This is YOUR health we’re talking about. It’s YOUR privilege and RIGHT to be able to take an active role in your own reproductive and hormonal health. There are things you can do to make improvements in your health and even prevent issues that often arise as your body ages. Doesn’t that feel good… to know that you can actually DO something to help yourself before things become major issues? On this episode, Julie is chatting with her friend and self-identified “Functional Medicine Nerd,” Torea Rodriguez (www.ToreaRodriguez.com). Torea introduced Julie to the “Fertility Awareness Method” which is an all natural form of birth control and so much more (not to be confused with the rhythm method). The conversation today should not be seen as a “how to” instructional but rather an overview and examination of FAM, including the basics of the method, how and why it works, and the benefits that come from using this approach. Much more than a birth control method. Both Julie and Torea stress that FAM is not only about birth control… and that’s where you’re able to take an active hand in your own health. The FAM enables you to keep track of your own hormonal levels and monthly cycle on a level you probably won’t believe. You can catch hormonal imbalances before they become serious, notice even the slightest changes in your cycle and health so you can be prepared for changes in your body before they happen, and even detect issues (like cervical cysts) when your health care provider may not even be concerned about such things. One of the ladies in today’s conversation did exactly that, to the amazement of her Doctor. If you want to throw off the depency you have on your health care provider in favor of a smart, informed, accurate degree of self-care that most women have never thought possible, you can do it. The Fertility Awareness Method could be the answer. Find out more on this episode. Jennifer began her career as an advertising assistant. Bored beyond belief, and curious about what else she could do outside of an office cubical, evoked the first of many unique creations. Upon delivering her resignation letter to her boss, she had already started her business of hand painting on barrettes, calling them “Jenniclips.” Her whimsical designs piqued the interest of many and people kept inquiring, “What else can you create?” She pieced together a financial plan that allowed her to grow the business — these other side gigs included: hand modeling, production assisting on tv commercials, and a receptionist at a hair salon, to name a few.Without a clue of what was next, Jennifer began to build her business acumen. She has evolved her business from hair accessories into a charming line of handmade gemstone jewelry. Her pieces are sold in boutiques across the US Europe, and have been featured in national fashion magazines, as well as been adorned by actresses on television shows.Along with her contagious upbeat energy and personality, she has been using the tools of Access Consciousness for over 12 years to assist with creating and generating a life that works for her.Learn more about Jennifer at: www.jennifertuton.com Julie Tuton was born in Boston, then moved to San Francisco where she started her jewelry business over 25 years ago. She attended Buyer’s Markets to show her jewelry line glass art and connect with wholesale accounts across the US. In 1998 one of her glass art creations, MagicStones®, was featured on Oprah. In 2011, she opened her first jewelry store in Tiburon, called “Jewels.” Today, Julie creates new jewelry every day in her beautiful boutique in downtown Mill Valley. When designing a custom piece for you, Julie is an alchemist and reaches out with her awareness into your energy field and creates something that will match what you are looking for, even if you don’t have the words for it.
