Chef Frank Brigtsen and his wife Marna are the owners of Brigtsen's Restaurant, in the Riverbend neighborhood of Uptown New Orleans. Frank began his culinary career in 1973 while attending Louisiana State University. In 1979, he apprenticed at Commander's Palace Restaurant under the guidance of Chef Paul Prudhomme and became the first Night Chef at K-Paul's Louisiana Kitchen in 1980. During his seven-year tenure with Chef Prudhomme at K-Paul's, Frank attained the position of Executive Chef. Paul and K Prudhomme were instrumental in helping Frank and Marna open Brigtsen's in 1986. Chef Frank has been named one of the Top Ten New Chefs in America by FOOD&WINE magazine (1988) and America's Best Chef: Southeast by the James Beard Foundation Awards (1998). He has also been named Chef of the Year by New Orleans magazine and Restaurateur of the Year by the Louisiana Restaurant Association – N.O. Chapter. In 2022, Chef Frank received the Ella Brennan Lifetime Achievement Award in Hospitality, presented by the New Orleans Food & Wine Experience. Chef Frank's passion is teaching and sharing through food. For 15 years, he taught Contemporary Creole/Acadian cuisine as Adjunct Professor at the John Folse Culinary Institute at Nicholls State University and serves as Chef-in-Residence for the Culinary Arts program at the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts (NOCCA).

Chef Paul Prudhomme was a true Ambassador of American/Southern/Cajun/Creole cuisine and culture. When he created K-Paul’s Louisiana Kitchen in New Orleans he drew from his worldly cooking lessons back to his childhood. The legacy of this restaurant is lovingly preserved by niece Brenda Prudhomme, "the daughter he never had." As we reach the end of 2015, we re taking a look back at the triumphs and tragedies of the year past. 2015 was a big year for Louisiana Eats This June, we celebrated our fifth anniversary on the air, with listeners and friends including the NPR affiliates WWNO, WRKF, KRVS and Red River Radio. We found ourselves traveling across the state, the country and the world, covering topics ranging from substance abuse in the service industry, revelry and tradition at the annual Blackpot Festival in Lafayette, ghosts in the attic at Tujague s Restaurant, seafood innovation on the Gulf Coast and the domestic slave trade in America. Sadly, 2015 also came with the loss of good friends and mentors. Mildred Covert, who taught the world how to cook Creole and Cajun while keeping Kosher, left us in the spring. In the fall, we lost the man who taught the world to love the food of South Louisiana, Chef Paul Prudhomme. In this week s show, we look back on the life of Chef Prudhomme through the lens of two people whose lives have been positively impacted by him and his late wife, Kay Hinrichs Prudhomme. We hear from Sandy Hanson, who was at K Paul s the day they opened their doors in 1979, and from her brother in law, Chef Frank Brigtsen, who credits his culinary successes to his friend and mentor the man he simply calls chef. Then, we revisit an old interview with Kosher Creole Cajun cooking maven Midred Covert, and celebrate Antoine s amazing 175 years a landmark occasion they marked in 2015. (July 28, 2012) Paul Diamond, a barrister in the United Kingdom who has established a specialized practice in the law of religious liberty, spoke at our annual student conference "It Takes a Family to Raise a Village." His second talk is entitled "Criminalizing Christianity in the U.K." "It Takes a Family to Raise a Village" is a scholarship-based three-day event in San Diego where students and people of all ages gather for seminars and inspiration on the meaning and value of marriage. This is a live mix of some new tracks that Sween got in first week of July 2010. The mix starts off with a tribal feel working through to tech house and nice electro type minimal plus a little bit of acid. Steve McSweeny (Sween) started DJing way back in 1991, but really took off around 1994 - 1996 when he started doing lots of parties and house rooms at raves across London and the south east of England. SWEEN always loved DJing house music although his real roots come from hip hop and electro his first love. In 1998 Steve did a world tour where he got to go to the US and DJ in LA and Santa Monica, then he was off too Australia where played at clubs in Melbourne and in Sydney including some amazing Mardi Gras parties.
