Welcome back, everyone, to another episode of the Niche Pursuits News Podcast! Dig into the latest news in SEO, AI, and content creation with Jared and Spencer! They kick off this week's episode talking about Google's March Core Update. They talk specifically about scaled content abuse and how Google is going in and manually deindexing sites, sharing a study that looked at 79,000 websites on certain ad networks, of which 1146 were deindexed. Could this be a scare tactic by Google? Is it doing this manually to save its crawl budget? What exactly is going on? Google updated its quality rater guidelines to ensure that they ding those sites that don't disclose which articles were written with AI, describing AI-generated articles as the lowest form of content when ti comes to EEAT. Spencer offers some advice for content creators using AI and says that Google is going after sites with AI-generated content. He does make an important distinction, though. Tune in to hear what he says. Then they discuss how Google put out an FAQ on “pure spam” manual action notices, but as Jared notices, there is one important thing missing from the post. What is it? They then move on to a funny news item. John Mueller, one of Google's Search Liaisons, saw his site get dropped from Google, although it was recently reindexed. It's not clear why this happened or if it was a stunt, but it's definitely news! Spencer and Jared have some encouraging words for listeners about the core update overall, so listen to the episode to hear what they have to say. Moving along, they announce Mediavine's new program, Journey, for sites getting around 10k sessions per month. This is a great alternative for people with smaller sites to allow them to get monetized with Mediavine. As this is a new program, Spencer and Jared have a lot of questions about it and about how it will run, and why it's being launched now. Things take a “nerdy” turn afterwards as Jared talks about how Google Search Console has rolled out the new core web vitals. What changes have been made, and what is INP all about? Moving along, they share that Reddit has announced a new tool for business growth, allowing companies to spot trends, track mentions, monitor post performance, etc. The goal is to help brands promote themselves organically, and it could be a good platform to use as people consider diversifying away from Google. Tune in to listen to what Spencer and Jared think about this idea. And the last item on the agenda is the news that the Associated Press has launched an e-commerce site with product reviews. What is so unsettling about this headline for Spencer? What do they say about presidential campaigns, blenders, and multivitamins? As for Shiny Object Shenanigans, Spencer gives an update on his Amazon Influencer Program side hustle. He reports that his earnings are steady this month, at $1,600, with no major dips but also no major growth. Jared chimes in with his earnings this month, too! He also talks about his new premium Niche Pursuits Community, for which he just did an expert call to talk about the program, sharing all of the juicy details about how he built this income stream. When it's Jared's turn, he talks about adding a new, professionally edited video and thumbnail to his Weekend Growth YouTube channel. He also talks about how he's using SparkLoop to grow his newsletter subscriber list, and after spending +$200, he has acquired +200 subscribers. Tune in to hear all of the details and learn more. As for their Weird Niche Sites, Spencer goes first and reveals Horse Name Ideas. This weird website has hundreds of categories as well as a name generator, and perhaps what's most surprising is what he reveals when he looks at Ahrefs. But when Spencer and Jared discuss the site owner's photo, the About page, the mission statement, and the contact phone number, what happens? Listen to find out. When it's Jared's turn, he shares Healthy Wage and even reads from its Wikipedia page. This DR60 site is only ranking for 3.6k keywords, but it does have social proof and is very popular. How can the principles of this page be used by other site owners? Check out the episode to hear what they say. And that brings us to the end of another episode of the Niche Pursuits News podcast. Manually implemented controls would result in better pictures than any automatic decisions the camera would make on its own. Is this still true?

Guest post Crystel Robbins Rynne, Chief Operating Officer HRLocker Tech spending in HR is grinding to a halt - at the worst possible time. Teams are being called upon to increase productivity and cut costs, yet HR is frequently excluded from company-wide digital transformation. It's well-known that automation and digitalisation can boost efficiency and simplify workflows. But instead of letting tech lift the burden, HR professionals are distracted by busy work and outdated systems. The exclusion is tinged with irony. HR professionals are essential for making sure employees are engaged and on board with transformational change. But when it comes to digital transformation inside the department, HR is too often overlooked. The pandemic amplified the need for digital HR. Remote work, virtual onboarding, and employee wellbeing - all people-centric functions - demanded an overnight migration to the virtual world. As digitalisation persists across companies and industries, it's time for HR departments to catch up. What analogue HR departments are missing out on The benefits of digital HR stack up. By automating some of the day-to-day admin and introducing autonomous workflows for recruitment, onboarding, and employee benefits, you can create more capacity in your team- without hiring an extra pair of hands. Here are three examples of how digital HR benefits the whole company: Increased capacity - Today, many HR professionals are trapped in an endless ream of admin and repetitive work. Instead of focusing on strategic goals like developing the company culture or improving employee experience, teams are snowed under with compliance and payroll tasks. Embracing digital HR gives teams more time to focus on the 'human' aspects of HR. Manually updating employee records and managing annual leaves are important tasks, but they don't have to be performed by a human. Figuring out how to engage employees with a new learning and development programme or strategising in response to an employee survey requires human HR minds on the job. Better relationships - As teams become more distributed, having a human resources function focused on the people can help reinforce relationships and culture that transcends the physical office. Historically, interactions with HR teams have had negative connotations. Often, employees only engage with HR when the rules are broken, compliance is challenged, or disciplinary action is necessary. As a result, people outside of HR don't always see the strategic and empathetic work professionals are doing inside the department. Smoother, digitised workflows help to improve relations between HR and wider teams. By automating some communications and replacing manual processes with simple digital systems, employees enjoy a seamless way to engage with HR. Booking annual leave or updating employee records requires a few clicks - instead of a few emails. With better systems to manage the admin, you can work with employees directly on the things that matter most to them - such as onboarding, learning and development, and performance. Candidate engagement - In another universe, human resources could be retitled as human relations. For job applicants, HR is often the first department candidates are properly introduced to - the first glimpse of what working at your company looks like. Today, many businesses struggle to keep candidates engaged. One survey found that 78% of job seekers would drop out of a recruitment process that's too lengthy or complicated. Technology can simplify and expedite hiring procedures. You can automate email updates and interview scheduling, keeping candidates in the loop. As well as centralising all candidate information, you can easily filter applicants and keep the process moving. Digital HR teams can create a positive ripple effect for people outside of the department. Just make sure to avoid siloing your efforts. A lesson on siloed projects and digital breakthroughs from Microsoft Microsoft CEO Sa...

Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: Strongest real-world examples supporting AI risk claims?, published by rosehadshar on September 5, 2023 on The Effective Altruism Forum. [Manually cross-posted to LessWrong here.] There are some great collections of examples of things like specification gaming, goal misgeneralization, and AI improving AI. But almost all of the examples are from demos/toy environments, rather than systems which were actually deployed in the world. There are also some databases of AI incidents which include lots of real-world examples, but the examples aren't related to failures in a way that makes it easy to map them onto AI risk claims. (Probably most of them don't in any case, but I'd guess some do.) I think collecting real-world examples (particularly in a nuanced way without claiming too much of the examples) could be pretty valuable: I think it's good practice to have a transparent overview of the current state of evidence For many people I think real-world examples will be most convincing I expect there to be more and more real-world examples, so starting to collect them now seems good What are the strongest real-world examples of AI systems doing things which might scale to AI risk claims? I'm particularly interested in whether there are any good real-world examples of: Goal misgeneralization Deceptive alignment (answer: no, but yes to simple deception?) Specification gaming Power-seeking Self-preservation Self-improvement This feeds into a project I'm working on with AI Impacts, collecting empirical evidence on various AI risk claims. There's a work-in-progress table here with the main things I'm tracking so far - additions and comments very welcome. Thanks for listening. Many people leave it up to luck, fate, or "Kiln gods" when firing out work. But once you get to know your kiln, you can use it to add a whole new layer of interest to your work by how you choose to fire it. Even when electric firing, using different firing schedules, holds, cooling techniques, and much more can make your pots more exciting to create and enjoy. So be brave, put some shelf cones in your kilns, and try a few things. I talk slowly in the podcast to explain things clearly, but I might have done a lousy job. This episode will dive into the story of Kim “KC” Campbell, one of the few pilots ever to land the Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II “Warthog” manually. Kim is a graduate from the United States Air Force Academy. She has flown 1,800 hours in the A-10 Warthog and more than 100 combat missions including in Iraq and Afghanistan. In 2003, Kim received the Distinguished Flying Cross for Heroism, as she skillfully recovered her battle-damaged aircraft following an intense close air support mission in Baghdad. Campbell has since retired from the Air Force and now is a guest professor, speaker, and bestselling author. She shares with us her pathway to becoming an A-10 pilot, and lessons she's learned from the cockpit. THIS is going to be cool!Key Takeaways: Kim served for 24 years before retirement, holding positions such as a fighter pilot, Deputy Chief and then Chief of the A-10 Operational Training Development Team, Commander of the 355th Operations Support Squadron, Military Assistant to the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, and more. Kim and her father both graduated from the Air Force Academy at the highest rank of Cadet Wing Commander, making them the first father daugther duo to hold that accolade. At the time, only a handful of pilots had ever tried to land the A-10 Warthog manually. Kim later was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for her bravery and airmanship while flying the A-10. Campbell is now retired and has started her new career of speaker, coach, and author, telling stories about her lessons from the cockpit and how they can be used in every day life. Kim's book, Flying in the Face of Fear, tells several stories about the missions she was on and how they can be used as learning tools for businesses and employees. Managing PPC campaigns on thousands of parent ASINs in an Amazon account can be a challenging task for any seller. With each ASIN receiving varying amounts of traffic, it becomes challenging to set and manage bids across multiple campaigns effectively. In the video, the Steven Noch addresses these challenges and provides insights into how to manage large-scale campaigns on Amazon. They discuss the benefits of automation and the importance of manual keyword bidding for achieving better campaign performance. When it comes to managing daily budgets on thousands of campaigns, he suggests that automation can be helpful in reducing the heavy lifting. However, they caution that keyword bidding should be done manually to ensure better control over the formulaic bid changes.Steven also emphasizes the importance of looking at pacing, ACoS, spend, and sales for overall account performance. By setting these variables as ratios in their Excel formulas, they achieve a better balance between performance and pacing. He suggests grouping ASINs into smaller chunks to help aggregate data, making it easier to apply formulaic bid changes with more data confidence. When it comes to managing large-scale campaigns, bulk files should be used instead of the UI for bulk actions. This approach allows for easy tweaking of variables, and Excel formulas can be applied to optimize bids quickly.Managing Amazon PPC campaigns for thousands of parent ASINs requires a combination of automation and manual effort. Steven's approach of using Excel formulas to balance performance and pacing can help achieve better campaign results. Optimizing Online Arbitrage with a Prep Center Optimizing Online Arbitrage with a Prep Center Precision Prep- Prep Center Overview What is Online Arbitrage (OA)? It's a simple way to make money on Amazon by shopping online, in your pajamas if you want, at any hour of the day, right from the comfort of your home. This basic and straightforward method is called Online Arbitrage. With Online Arbitrage, you can shop for your inventory on your computer at home-and then sell this inventory for a profit by listing it on Amazon to ship to customers directly, or send to Amazon for FBA service. Online Arbitrage is a legitimate business model that can be profitable and successful. It is making money from a price difference between purchasing physical goods from an online source at a lower cost and reselling these same goods for a higher price. Sourcing is done online, and this inventory is sold online. If you add some outsourcing-you could run your entire business without seeing or touching a product. If you also use FBA-you may never even talk to a customer. Exciting isn't it? Basic Steps of OA: 1. Go to a retail website. 2. Search for items that you can buy for a lower price to resell on Amazon.com for a higher price. 3. Order those items and have them shipped to you or a prep center. 4. When your shipment arrives at your prep center or your home inspect your items. 5. List your new inventory on Amazon. 6. Manually fulfill your orders or ship them to Amazon for FBA services. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jessica-hill00/support

PROS There is an abundance of inventory to source from. It's always open-you can shop all hours. Quantities are higher than what is available at physical stores. Your items are conveniently shipped and delivered to you or your prep center. Easy to scale because of the opportunity to purchase large quantities of diversified inventory. CONS There is a learning curve so some time has be invested. Need to understand how to interpret data to make good buying decisions. Can't see expiration dates for grocery items. Items may arrive damaged. To make money shopping online-you need to know your numbers. You need to buy items at a lower price to resell at a higher price. Enough of a price difference to cover your inventory cost, all your fees, prep costs, shipping costs, and be left with a profit for yourself. Here are the numbers you need to think about when looking for inventory: · The total cost of your purchased inventory including tax and shipping. · Amazon fees (about 30% for FBA and 15% for just listing on the marketplace for MF) · Shipping costs to Amazon for FBA or direct to your customers for MF · The retail price on Amazon If you take the Amazon retail price and subtract the expenses, and there is still money left over, that is your profit. We will discuss this later-but you can use Amazon's profit calculator as well as RevSeller to do the math for you. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/jessica-hill00/support

Hey Listener, put on a black t-shirt and ask your mom if you can listen to this podcast while she drives you to the show because today we're talking with stand up comedian Giles Chickering from Hambone and the Guy/Zorse Industries about punk, emo, and metalcore from the early to mid 2000s. It's an interesting conversation as we talk about being 10 years apart in age and how that affected the way we discovered bands, what bands we liked from the same time period, and where we don't overlap musically. Topics this week include: The Adventures of Hambone and The Guy. The Fast and the Furious franchise is Giles' Star Wars. Shout out to Uncle Norm for those Beavis and Butthead VHS tapes. The internet, a Blackberry, a girlfriend, a driver's license, and a car aka the entire world has changed. FUSE: shaping a teenage boy's musical tastes. “My mom has seen Underoath 4 times”. Manually inputting album tracks to your desktop computer. An unplanned dive into Pauly Shore films. Warped Tours of yore. Giles is worried about how socially irresponsible $uicide Boy$ are for the youth of America. Viewing the Black Parade as a boy and as a man. Ticketmaster is pure evil and you're going to pay for it. The band that opened for Idles sucks (Injury Reserve). Being the old guy in the back of the room in a BANE hoodie. How have the Red Hot Chili Peppers not been canceled? Blink 182 and bands that are adjacent. We love concept albums. Standing at the barrier for Puddle of Mud in 2022. Davey Havok's sexuality and getting his arms blacked out. Thursday, an introduction to Post-Hardcore. Giles Hearts Haley. Forever Taking Back Sunday. Not old and white trash enough for Hatebreed. Every Time I Die: The best at being a band until they weren't. If a concert looks like a prison riot, then it's a good band. Tricked by Christians. Coping with the pandemic via nostalgia. The era of cookie cutter venues. Riot Fest was made for Giles and fat guys in the Midwest that wear black t-shirts and drink beer (me).
When Leanne ran her own recruitment business, she managed to claw back 25 hours of her time PER WEEK by implementing automation strategies and hiring 4 offshore virtual assistants. When was the last time you reviewed your full recruiting process and identified the recurring tasks? Are you still manually using spreadsheets and doing everything manually? Doing everything manually instead of leveraging automation is costing you precious time and constraining your growth. In this episode, we will share the top three benefits of leveraging automation, parts of your business you can automate, and the do's and don'ts when running automated campaigns. Episodes Outline and Highlights [01:16] The downside of doing everything manually instead of leveraging automation. [02:40] Three benefits of automation based on our own experience. [09:17] Automation should not replace the human touch or personalized approach. [13:25] What parts of your business can you automate? [15:04] Do you have a consistent nurturing process for your clients and candidate leads? [18:20] Steps you can take now. [21:21] The Dont's - automation mistakes that cost you sales and reputation. [28:33] Tips on creating a personalized feel when writing messages for automation. [30:00] Preview of our next episode. The 3 Big Reasons Why You Need to Leverage Automation In our experience, these are the three reasons why you need to leverage automation ASAP: Save time - Leanne personally implemented automation in her business and saved 25 hours per week! Although it did not happen overnight, it was absolutely worth it. Better client and candidate experience - This is counter-intuitive but the time you save by automating certain tasks allows you to provide a more personalized customer. A smooth end-to-end experience for the clients and candidates also increases the probability of repeat business. Automation is key in getting off the feast and famine roller coaster - Automation helps with keeping your sales pipeline full even when you're busy delivering on current assignments. It enables you to have both your candidate sourcing and business development machines running on autopilot in the background. We are not saying that automation replaces the more personalized approach when dealing with clients and candidates - picking up the phone, making personalized video messages, and other activities that provide that essential human touch. What automation actually gives you is time to be more personalized as it allows you to invest time in the right areas of your business. What Can You Automate in Your Recruitment Business The easiest place to start with by looking at your current recruitment process. What are the repetitive tasks that could potentially be automated? For example: Recruiting / candidate outreach Business development / client outreach Marketing / lead nurture campaigns You can start by writing all the steps in your sourcing and recruiting process and look at which of those steps you could leverage automation. Keep in mind that this is not an email broadcast. These are smaller, highly targeted and personalized campaigns that feel like a one-to-one message. Automation Errors That Cost You Sales and Damage Your Reputation We're big believers in the power of automation to grow your business. Having said that, automation done incorrectly can have negative consequences. Here are two common mistakes to avoid when creating automated campaigns. These tasks need to be done manually either by you or a member of your team: Make sure you're targeting the right people! It sounds obvious, but it's a complete waste of time sending messages to people who aren't relevant. It's essential to inspect the recipient list and confirm that they are relevant recipients before hitting send. Don't rely completely on automation and get carried away to the point that it loses effectiveness. Avoid these “personalization” blunders If you get personalization wrong, it has the exact opposite effect. It's becomes obvious your message is automated and elicits a negative response. For example, putting someone's name in ALL CAPS. Or using their full company name - e.g. International Business Machines Corporation, instead of IBM. (Think about it, if you were writing a personal note to somebody, you probably wouldn't include Inc, Ltd or LLC in the company name, would you?) You or ideally your VA need to clean up your spreadsheet to ensure that the job title, name, and other data points are correct and natural sounding before adding anyone to an automated campaign. This week's episode of the Pacey Performance Podcast is with Pete Burridge, Mike Young and John Wagle talking about all things eccentric training and testing. This was originally recorded last year as part of the Sportsmith Live series where we get three experts to chat about one area and coaches can tune in to ask their own questions. It is available on Sportsmith but the information is so good that we wanted to put it out as a podcast. We all know the benefits of eccentric focused training. However, how do we fit it within our programme due to the negative responses athletes often feel with this type of training? John gives us a great overview here. Mike then dives into flywheel training, a method of training which has been around for a long time but is really starting to give coaches incredible information due to advancements in technology. So what options do we have and what are the benefits and limitations of this type of eccentric training? If you don't have flywheels or budget for any fancy equipment, how can coaches use other eccentric methods to overload their athletes? Pete dives into this area to explain how you can manually overload and incorporate accentuated eccentric loading (AEL) into a programme. Talking points - • The benefits of eccentric focused training and links to dynamic performance • Fitting eccentrics into the wider programme • Flywheel training - benefits and limitations • Flywheel tech options • Other ways to load eccentrically • Manually overloaded and accentuated eccentric loading (AEL)
A newly disclosed forensic analysis has found that 191 texts were manually deleted from an iPhone of former Mayor Jenny Durkan in the months after her administration's controversial response to racial justice protests in June 2020, according to the latest filings in a federal lawsuit. The previously unknown manual text deletions from Durkan's phone — along with other new details, including that “factory resets” were performed on phones of six other city officials in fall 2020, resulting in the deletions of thousands of other text messages — are among the revelations contained in the findings of an expert's 32-page report completed in April.LIKE & SUBSCRIBE for new videos daily. https://bit.ly/3KBUDSK
