Stephen King's short story, Graveyard Shift, is about a Maine textile mill that has something of a rat problem. Like, a big rat problem. Literally. But are the rats the biggest problem facing these workers or the slave style conditions they have to work under? Both are bad news, but put them together and you have a creepy King corker that once again focuses on blue collar workers facing true evil.

Encore of our May 7, 2021 episode where Three Tortured Minds, and special guest filmmaker Mike P. Nelson, take a "Dark Dive" into TWILIGHT ZONE: THE MOVIE.
Episode 105: Mike P Nelson, director of Wrong Turn (2021) and writer/director of The Domestics (2018) has a candid conversation with SAE about placing on 2021 best horror movie lists, handling established film franchises, spontaneous creativity, The Temple of Doom, and upcoming projects.
Ever since Ned Beatty was told to “squeal like a pig” in “Deliverance,” tales of survival have been fodder for many writers and directors across the globe with films such as “The Hills Have Eyes” becoming horror classics. In 2003, a film called “Wrong Turn” was released from director Rob Schmidt with a story and script from Alan McElroy. The movie told the story about a group of teens in the wrong place at the wrong time after they encounter a group of backwoods cannibals. The first film was successful upon its release, which meant there were going to be plenty of sequels to follow. All told there were five more “Wrong Turn” movies released but they were mostly straight-to-video films with each subsequent installment seemingly getting worse and worse in terms of actual plot and execution. In 2018, rumors started swirling that a new “Wrong Turn” movie was being made but this time McElroy was returning to the franchise he started while penning the script for an entire reboot of the series. Director Mike P. Nelson signed onto helm the project and this time the group of teenagers in the wrong place at the wrong time ran afoul of an entire society of mountain people living off the grid.In the latest episode of Rewind of the Living Dead, we're going to sharpen our knives and prepare to survive as we review the 2021 horror film “Wrong Turn”…

In 2003, screenwriter Alan B. McElroy created a film series called Wrong Turn about a group of young people having to hike through the West Virginia woods after their cars break down. Unfortunately for them, a trio of inbred mutants hunts them down as food. With the original film's success, five more were made as the villainous mutants returned for more death and torture. Now in 2021, a reboot written by the original screenwriter has been released. College students Jen, Darius, and their four friends head out for an outdoor adventure on the Appalachian Trail in Virginia. When they decide to go view an old Civil War fort off the beaten track, disaster happens. Soon they find themselves confronted by a mysterious cult in the backwoods that they may have wronged. Lost and without gear, all their lives are turn out to be in jeopardy. Alan B. McElroy returns to the film series that he made iconic. Rebooted and with a new type of villain, his screenplay was directed by newcomer Mike P. Nelson. The film received mixed reviews but did get some early year buzz from horror fans. Dark Discussions takes a look at this new addition to a horror franchise and gives their thoughts.
Three Tortured Minds, and special guest filmmaker Mike P. Nelson, take a "Dark Dive" into TWILIGHT ZONE: THE MOVIE.
Hello! Welcome to the latest – 15th! – episode of the audio commentary podcast hosted by me, David Hughes. As soon as I finished the brilliant Wrong Turn reboot, I got straight in touch with director Mike P. Nelson to see if he'd be willing to record a commentary for us – and I was blown away when he not only said he would love to, but that he would round up lead actress Charlotte Vega, screenwriter Alan B. McElroy (who also wrote the original, for crying out loud!) and director of photography Nick Junkersfeld for a fun four-way commentary recorded (of course) via Zoom. It's a world exclusive commentary for this terrific horror film, which is available here (US) or here (UK). Obviously don't listen if you haven't seen the film, which I urge you to do – it's the best kind of reboot, which acknowledges the original but brings it kicking and screaming into the 2020s. I'm eternally grateful to Mike for rounding up the gang and pulling it together for us. Comments? Feedback? Suggestions? Email David *at * Rogue-Commentary *dot* com or send us a tweet. Mike P. Nelson has always loved old horror movies. As a kid, he spent his summers making horror movies and the winters practicing stop motion. But, at the time, he was only allowed to see pre-70s horror movies, so when he reached the R-rating age of 18, his world opened up dramatically. In Nelson’s latest film, he tackles the latest installment of Wrong Turn (2021), which comes from the original writer Alan B. McElroy. In this film, “Friends hiking the Appalachian Trail are confronted by 'The Foundation', a community of people who have lived in the mountains for hundreds of years.” In this interview, Nelson discusses the different decades of the horror genre, what it means to make a “violent movie with heart,” how to carefully shift a franchise film, and how many of the best directors begin in the horror genre. Your Boo Crew is back for a second of THREE all new episodes this week! Get on your backpack and hike the Appalachian Trail as you make a WRONG TURN with director Mike P. Nelson and star, Charlotte Vega of the new 2021 reboot of the franchise, available now on blu ray, dvd, on demand and digital! We had such a blast with this film! There is so much pure joy in the twists, turns and misdirects. Hear about the concept of flipping a well known entity completely on its tail, perhaps to the extent you’ve never seen before in a reboot, done with the writer of the 2003 original. Learn about the intense work and genuine LOVE that went into bringing this massive idea to life. How they did one of our fave scenes in a horror film-in YEARS! Will there be a possibility of a sequel? Are there ties to the original? How was the gore approached? So much fun stuff-just remember to stay on the path as you camp out with episode 201! It's been a long while since I was contacted about possible interviews, probably because there has been a lot going in the world or more than likely, I've been too busy to reply every single one. Well here are two I simply did not want to pass up because I thoroughly enjoyed the films we discuss. First up, as you heard during Episode 185, I sang the praises of I Blame Society, the latest from Gillian Wallace Horvat. For 15 minutes, we talk about what it was like making one of the year's best films so far and a whole lot more. Right after that, a longer discussion ensues with Mike P. Nelson who previously helmed The Domestics, a favorite from Cinepocalypse where it premiered here in Chicago. This time, he's responsible for a terrific remake / reboot of Wrong Turn. Surprisingly enough, this updating comes from the original screenwriter as well making some big changes along the way. Thanks so much to my great, very talented guests for their insights and delights. A couple more bonus episodes are coming before the next director-centric episode in mid-March. 00:00 - 06:35 - Intro 06:36 - 20:25 - Gillian Wallace Horvat (I Blame Society) 20:26 - 52:02 - Mike P.
