Have you ever felt that despite your best efforts, you are falling short of achieving what you truly want in life? For most of us, the road to success and fulfillment contains many pitfalls and diversions, and creating your best life requires key ingredients such as clarity on your goals and values and consistency in your efforts. Nic Peterson, our guest in Episode 195 of The MINDset Game® podcast, is a serial entrepreneur and the author of the book, “Bumpers: The Framework for Finding Your Personal Abundance, Maximum Productivity, Greatest Profits and Highest Quality of Life.” Nic wrote this book in response to a recurring question he received – how do you get so much done in so many different industries? Similar to the bumpers you'd put up in a bowling alley, the bumpers that Nic shares with us will allow you to play all in with 100% effort, while keeping you out of the gutter. In this episode, he discusses the following strategies to help you live the life you really want: The value of concentrating your efforts on trying to prevent negative outcomes in the first place, as opposed to allowing them to happen and then recovering – and how sharpening your sense of hindsight and establishing your non-negotiables can help in this process Why focusing on improving your “rolling average” may be a more effective and sustainable approach than trying to constantly improve upon your best results Why it's crucial to be honest with yourself in getting clear on what you truly want in life, and constantly checking in with yourself to identify what's most important to you To learn more about Nic, visit https://www.nicpeterson.com, or look for “Bumpers” on Amazon. On this episode, I'm joined by Dan Nicholson, the author of Rigging the Game: How to Achieve Financial Certainty, Navigate Risk, and Make More Money on Your Terms. Dan is passionate about helping entrepreneurs end their suffering, and he shares his insights on how to do that through his book and this podcast episode. He talks about the challenge of constantly chasing more and how it can lead to taking ourselves out of the game. We also discuss the importance of setting expectations based on average performance, rather than personal best in order to achieve financial success. Dan's fourth commandment is also explored, which is about not seeking the best of ourselves every single day, but pursuing a rolling average. Finally, Dan shares how he had to unlearn much of what he had learned in business school in order to become an entrepreneur. He realized that he needed to optimize for the right things, not just more and more. By the end of the episode, you will have gained insight into how to find enough in one's life while also achieving financial success. Here are some other takeaways you'll get from listening: Discover how to achieve financial success and find your enough Understand why humans are wired to crave more and how to reorient towards goals Learn how to set expectations based on average performance, rather than personal best Unlearn what you've been taught in business and optimize for the right things Gain insight into how to hit expectations most days with a built-in upside Discover the fourth commandment about not seeking the best of ourselves every single day Understand how pursuing a rolling average in life can bring success Realize how chasing more can lead to taking yourself out of the game Gain insight into how to change your thinking in a healthier way Alternative to trying to be your best every day - how to take pressure off yourself Why, what, and how to unlearn what's dragging you down in your business How to reframe from always pushing for “more” to what's most efficient for you and “maximize” How to know how to play YOUR game to an infinite level How understanding “restraint” allows you to curb your impulses and allow greater good things to happen How “burning the boats” hurts you and your business more than you realize Steps to create personal freedom in your business and life so you call the shot Get Dan's book, Rigging The Game, so you can deep dive into all of his actionable strategies. Nic Peterson has scaled two companies past the $10m+. One of which was a digital marketing agency geared around helping gym owners scale and the other, a diet and nutrition company. Today he and his partners currently own and operate 7 companies from their Orange County, California office in industries as varied as tech, digital marketing, accounting and management consulting. A big part of their focus recently has been around consulting and creating community for ambitious owner-managers in and around SoCal who are ready to scale their businesses past the $10m mark and would like a bit of support to grow.
Being an entrepreneur means learning how to show up effectively for your audience. However, what if your current tactics aren’t working? Are you often asking yourself: "Why don’t they get it?” “Why is my business stagnating?” “How do I effectively communicate my intentions?” Today’s guest, Nic Peterson may have the answer you’re looking for. Nic has been an entrepreneur for most of his adult life. He is the co-founder and director of strategic development at Mastery Mode, a business consulting firm dedicated to helping small businesses grow. His entrepreneurial journey began at the ripe old age of 21 when he opened a small gym. Building a NetworkFor four years, Nic basically lived at his gym, doing everything he could to make it successful. While he mostly catered to the Ironman and bodybuilding crowd, he noticed that some of his clients were affluent and successful. Then, the lightbulb switched on. He needed to know how to get more of these successful people in his gym. He started building his network by talking to successful clients and encouraging them to bring their friends to the gym. He was eventually able to raise membership prices by creating an exclusive environment for wealthy, successful people. The business grew and grew, and Nic gained valuable business knowledge. The craziest thing was, he did all of this without any marketing or advertising. From there, his success grew exponentially. Clarity, Certainty and Collapsing TimeThere are a lot of business consulting firms out there. What makes Nic’s methods different from the rest? It all comes down to his core marketing principles: Clarity, Certainty and Collapsing Time. Nic realized that every prospect is essentially asking a version of the question “Am I going to be okay?” whether that means money, weight loss, business success or personal growth. To answer that question, you need clarity, certainty and collapsing time. Think about using Google Maps to get somewhere. The clarity is that you’re at the right starting point and you’ve programmed in the right destination. The certainty is that Google Maps will get you to your destination. Collapsed time is how fast you drive to get there. The same formula works for any goal you’re trying to achieve. Effective CommunicationYour clients all have problems they’re trying to solve: “Am I going to be okay?” Once you have certainty, you can provide clarity for how you can solve their problem. Once they realize that you have a solution, collapsed time is your money maker. “When can I start?” or “How long will it take?” Nic’s advice to budding entrepreneurs is this: Focus on communication. Talk to people as much as possible. If you find yourself asking: “Why don’t they get it?” it’s time to work on your communication skills to deliver the best results. What’s your gut reaction when someone asks you how work is going? If the first thing you feel is dread or anxiety, you need to examine what might be causing you to feel that way. One of the most common reasons we feel constantly overwhelmed or unfulfilled in our career is a lack of alignment or understanding of the value we bring to the table. Blake Schofield is the Founder of Connections Illuminated, a mom of three and a former corporate executive of 18 years - she now helps heart-centered, driven women leverage their skills and passions to create a fulfilling career and a fulfilling life, transforming overwhelm and anxiety into clarity, purpose, control and flow. On this episode of Preeminence Unleashed, Nic, Jeff and Blake break down how Blake helps women at career crossroads stand in their value and find real fulfillment for themselves in their work, the myths and misconceptions that keep us from pursuing a life that truly fits us and keeps us energized and joyful, and finding prosperity and clarity in the midst of an unbelievably challenging year. Tune in for an episode that will calm, uplift, and motivate you to explore your own value. What You’ll Learn: Why Blake says that the mission behind the work she does actually began when she was around 7 years old, and how her mother’s story inspired her What the signs look like that will tell you it’s time for a change in your life and career, and how to spot them in your day-to-day How Blake reframed the way she serves her clients to adapt to their new needs in the time of COVID, and the impact and growth she has seen in those clients since (in spite of 2020’s challenges) And much more! Favorite Quote: “I'm so proud of the work that my clients have been doing. Because ultimately, they're taking the tools that they're being given and the support they're being given, and they're applying it, and they're getting the results. But it's not just that, it's watching these women recognize that they can get back to that peak of their career when they were confident, they felt like there were no barriers, they were excited and energized and passionate to get up to go to work. And they are in organizations and in roles that align with their natural skills and gifts, and they feel valued in that work. And ultimately, I know that this initial result they're getting is just the beginning for them.” Blake Schofield Horse for Sale: Book a 15-minute discovery call with Blake here Access Blake’s emails and the Protect & Prepare series here How to Get Involved: Nic Peterson and Jeff Moore are endlessly fascinated with the mindsets and practices that make smart, successful people tick - and they work closely with other entrepreneurs, business owners and service providers to put those habits and perspectives into action, making preeminence the cornerstone of every move forward. Why do you do what you do? When making choices, that is - what’s the driving force behind the jobs you accept, how you manage your time, and even the trajectory of your business? If you don’t know (and that’s okay, most of us don’t), there are a few simple frameworks that will help you figure it out. On this episode of Preeminence Unleashed, Nic and Jeff cover methods of finding the right “zone” you need to be in to get things done and feel fulfilled (according to a few key factors), the decision-making frameworks you need to know to help you pick and choose what work you take on with the limited time you have, and some of the creative minds that inspire and motivate both Jeff and Nic. Listen in to start making decisions that really make sense. What You’ll Learn: What happens when an entrepreneur takes on projects that fall outside their ideal skill and difficulty levels How to process the information you have and translate it into an intentional, helpful step towards the goals you’ve prioritized Why our business problems don’t usually come down to a problem within the actual business (and what the limiting factor actually is) And much more! Favorite Quote: “Instead of changing the plan, let's figure out what stopped your behavior from matching the plan in the first place. And then let's adjust that. And until your behavior matches the plan, changing out coaches, changing out strategies doesn't matter. Because you do the same thing. The thing you say you're gonna do on paper changes. You do the same freakin’ thing. So it's really just about, we can't gauge the efficacy of the plan until the behavior is aligned with the plan.” Nic Peterson Horse for Sale: Bumpers Book (Don’t forget to give Nic your feedback!) If you could choose one word to describe the way you approach business, and life in general, what would it be? Let this show introduce you to the way the word "preeminence" sends shockwaves through your entire ecosystem when you embrace and adopt it. On this episode of the new-and-improved Preeminence Unleashed podcast, Nic Peterson and Jeff Moore dive deep on what preeminence means and how it manifests itself in your worldview, your habits and your relationships, how COVID-19 changed the nature of buying and selling - plus how Nic and Jeff learned to adapt - and how to communicate well and develop successful, preeminent relationships that serve everybody in the long-term. Tune in for the return of a podcast that will change the way you look at every part of the way you do business. What You’ll Learn: What preeminence has to do with your priorities, and how a preeminent entrepreneur or service provider differs from the rest of the pack Why transactional relationships and preeminent ones don’t necessarily have to be mutually exclusive (hint: the keyword is “service”) How to seek out, understand and construct “win-win-win” relationships And much more! Favorite Quote: “Preeminence is a long game. Preeminence is consistently - the way I look at it and how I categorize somebody being preeminent or not, is basically this: Time is going to pass. Now, is time going to be our best friend or our worst enemy? That's really what I'm thinking, especially when I'm sitting here saying, 'Am I being preeminent in this moment based on how I treat this person, consult this person, advise this person 20 years from now? Is that the best thing I could have done for that person or not? And so we consider it the long game." On today’s show, we are chatting with Geoff Woods who is the Vice President of The ONE Thing and host of The ONE Thing podcast. After hearing a quote by Jim Rohn that "you are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with" Geoff set out on a mission to surround himself with high-level CEOs and successful entrepreneurs. Fast forward, Geoff went from employee to entrepreneur, launching a company with the co-authors of the best selling book The ONE Thing. This book is one of those reads where you read it once, make some things, and overtime as the changes drift a little bit, then you can re-read this book to reset. Geoff dives into how to structure your day in order to get to that ideal 20% of working with your priorities to get 80% of your results. You’ll see how this works as he details an example with Joe, asking specific questions in order to narrow in on that one important thing. We also talk about how to get your team to be aligned with your goals, especially if you are working virtually, how to set your core priorities, and how to figure out what that “first domino” is to make the remainder of your priorities to fall into place easily. If you like some of what Geoff has to say, be sure to check out our conversations with Ken Coleman and Nic Peterson with more insight about taking aligned action to reach your goals faster without sacrificing. “I was where a lot of people either have been or are right now, which is life is good and you are lacking fulfillment. I remember feeling like I was destined for more and I know that I’m meant to do bigger things for this world. ” - Geoff Woods Some Topics We Discussed Include: Time blocking and mind containers to get to peak productivity This one golden tip to get you to transition away from work easier Going from a full-time job to creating a better life by making a huge impact on the world Tuning into 20% of your priorities to get 80% of your results Our plan to go on a couples retreat with each other?! From being homeless to becoming a formidable strongman to switching gears to a successful business entrepreneur, you’ll really enjoy today’s show with Nic Peterson. We dive into his interesting past, how he’s been able to use his method of zero loss aversion to starting a host of various businesses, and how he’s partnered with some brilliant minds to not only better himself, but showcase his improvement to others and turning it into a well-known fitness and nutrition business. He also talks about the gym he started where he went from actually living in the warehouse-like building to transforming it into one of the biggest, highest priced gyms in the area, catering to high-end clients. In addition to all the companies he runs which include a specific type of mastermind, he chats about how he’s able to do it all, setting priorities correctly, and how you too can zone in to reach your goals as quickly as possible. If you like some of what Nic has to say, be sure to check out these past episodes with Dan Kuschell and Marx Acosta-Rubio that really hit home about taking aligned action to become the protagonist in your own life story. “You may have priorities that are diametrically opposed. You have to pick one, then attack the other one. A lot of people want to have as much money right now as possible but they also want to have as many followers as possible, so you have to pick one. Make a bunch of money, then pay for followers or get a bunch of followers then make money from them. You’re not going to go anywhere if you are trying to maximize both at the same time.” - Nic Peterson Some Topics We Discussed Include: How Nic went from homeless to making $100k with his mastermind Getting out of your slump with projects that don’t excite you Attracting high-end clients by saying the right words From powerlifting to losing weight and the birth of a nutrition company How to set your priorities to determine which one should come first Why not to name the puppy at the shelter - don’t even think about it! Of all the sexy marketing tactics and “life hacks” out there that promise to work like a charm, how many can back up the claim? In fact, just like anything else you build up brick by brick, the exceptional business and the life you’re looking for start with some self-awareness, a discerning eye for the people around you, and intentional, consistent lifestyle tweaks that work. Nic Peterson is a perfect example. Having spent years of his life homeless, but with a relentless hunger for learning, Nic found a way to combine his skills in fitness with the things he was being taught by those around him, and went on to build and grow multiple (incredibly successful) businesses based on a desire to connect with and learn from the best around. These days, Nic helps entrepreneurs and business owners grow, scale, and connect with others while staying aligned with who they are. On this episode of the Underdog Empowerment podcast, Zach and Nic get into the value of working with clients who practice what they preach, the simple secret behind creating massive change in your life (and helping those you serve do it too), and why you shouldn’t be worried when someone rips off your work. TOPICS: What is the knowledge and intention gap? Why we should appreciate when bad things don't happen. Why it's not always about learning more. Why we should have a process orientation instead of goal orientation. Up to this point, Nic Peterson says that he has spent half of his life homeless. Growing up in an abusive environment, even a college counselor told him once that no child should have ever had to experience what he experienced. However, before the age of thirty Nic has been able to redesign his life and create success by being a student and learning from the best minds he could find.. Today Nic shares with us his powerful story, drops some very practical wisdom on how we can go to the next level, and lets us know exactly why it’s NOT always about learning more. “A business needs two types of people to achieve a mass scale without everything going all crazy - the starter and the scaler.”Timothy Dick (00:55-1:20) There are two archetypes necessary to scale a business to a high seven or eight figures. While it’s possible to build a business to a certain point with only one type - whether that’s one person or multiple people of one type - to achieve mass scale without the overwhelm and headache, a business needs both types. Type One: The Starter Most entrepreneurs and visionaries are Starters who have created things that never existed before. Starters do a lot of “ready, fire, aim.” They’re involved in market sell. They test, test, test. But after a while, entropy sets in. While testing and trying a million new things, a Starter can be in danger of losing control on the backend of the business. Type Two: The Scaler A Scaler (or Operator ) is typically either a CEO or COO who manhandles the day-to-day operations of the business. Because they’re addressing the nitty-gritty details on a daily basis, they’re able to make tiny little tweaks that move the business forward. “The Scaler has the ability to just make a little tweak and make end-over-end growth. But they need the momentum that the Starter is creating.” -Nic Peterson (3:11-3:21)The Benefits of Having Both Types When an entrepreneur who is a Starter wants to double their business, they have to create twice as much stuff and do double the work On the other hand, while a Scaler has the ability to make one little tweak and create end-over-end growth, they lack the momentum that the Starter creates. I’ve gone it alone multiple times. I’ve had five companies that reached high six or seven figures. But I eventually wanted to burn them all down because I was trying to play both roles and hated doing the things that a Scaler does. After accepting my position as a Starter and operating only in that role while my business partner operates as a Scaler, I now love what I do. Our business and revenue grew, my responsibilities decreased, the headaches left, and I sleep better. It’s the best decision I’ve ever made to just play the role of a Starter and allow someone else to be the Scaler. “I could be a Scaler. I have the ability to learn that. But it would come at the expense of my strength.” - Nic Peterson (3:34-3:41)Know Which You Are The best thing you can do right now is to determine if you are a Starter or a Scaler. Which one is your strength? If you’ve started your own business, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re a Starter. You could potentially be an Operator/Scaler. Do you like to ready, fire, aim? Do you like to create and test stuff? Then you might be a Starter. Or do you prefer maintaining a slow, methodical control of the business as you grow it bigger? If so, there’s a good chance you're a Scaler. Determine which is your strength and then start building around that. You Don’t Have to Have a Partner While it’s necessary that you have both of these archetypes in your business, you don’t have to have a partner. If you’re a Starter, you could hire a COO. That’s exactly what ProfitLayer does for people. We act as the Scaler role. Or, for those who are already Operators, we can act as the Starter role. “One of the keys to becoming wildly more productive is understanding the concept of the trichotomy of returns.”Nic Peterson (2:49 - 2:54) Learn to be efficient with your resources as your business grows. When your business starts growing, your decisions become more critical. Ideally, you want to minimize your input for a specific return. To make decisions that enable you to maximize your output, you need to grasp the concept of the Trichotomy of Returns. “When making a decision, you have to decide if the expected return is worth your time, and how it affects your business overall.” - Nic Peterson (5:53 - 5:59) Everything you do should go into three different buckets, depending on the return you’re expecting, and the amount of work or resources you think it will entail. The three buckets in the Trichotomy of Returns. Disproportionate Returns - The things you do where the returns aren’t proportionate to the resources. The output can be either favorable or unfavorable. Maybe you put in twice the work and get four times the returns. Or you could 10x your investment and only get marginal benefits. An example of a favorable return is working overtime beyond a certain point. Your hourly return is disproportionately higher when compared to your benefit each regular hour. Proportionate Returns - This is where your results scale proportionately according to the effort or investment you put in. A good example is the case of an hourly employee. If you work double the hours, you’ll make twice the money (barring any overtime, of course). Proportionate returns rarely happen in business. If you double your ad spend, very seldom will your revenue double precisely. Binary Returns - This one is simple. You either get a result, or you don’t. It’s like a light switch. If you switch it on, you’ll have light. If you hit the switch harder, you’re not going to have more light. It becomes problematic in business when the switch is already on, but we keep pushing harder because we aren’t getting more in return. This is typically also where we have the most room to save time money and energy. “The concept of trichotomy of returns is really something to think about because if you put it into practice and apply it to your decisions, you really are going to be a lot more productive.” - Timothy Dick (7:52 - 8:06) If you can learn to discern between which bucket your decision falls into, you’re going to become a lot more productive. Remember, unfavorable returns are still returns, and it’s your job to decide if those results are the best use of your resources. Click here to make friends with Nic Peterson (just do it). First, shout out to nic peterson, who came up with this… find him, follow him. He's good. Link in show notes… 1. There is a gap between all of the things we know we should be doing and the things we are actually doing consistently every day… 2. It's very easy to go deep on this topic, talk about all the reasons WHY this happens or HOW it happens and research strategies for overcoming it and beating it… but isn't that just exacerbating the problem? Giving MORE things to do and think about, taking even MORE time from the things we know we should be doing? 3. Bumpers is all about how to actually DO more things we should be doing consistently… 4. CAVEAT - this is not a magic pill. At the end of the day YOU are in charge of actively changing your behavior in a way that will invite more favorable circumstances. You have to decide these things are actually important to you… 5. Let's dive in… 6. Concept 1 - a good life lived is not one that successfully dealt with problems that presented themselves but one that understood the things that mattered and accurately measured, managed, and appreciated those things… 7. This is where the idea of “bumpers” come into play. Like on a bowling alley, bumpers allow you to go after life 100% because you've created a mechanism to automatically keep your ball in the lane going toward the pins… (no idea why he used bowling! :) ) remember, bumpers don't exist to protect us from the world. they exist to protect us from ourselves. 8. This is where things get exciting and scary all at the same time… cause those bumpers you put up are only going to work if your pursuits stay aligned with your unique disposition and your life dreams and goals. 9. Step 1 - imagine your perfect day from start to finish… not what society thinks is perfect, or your friends, or your colleagues, or your family, or anyone… YOU. You want my perfect day (as of writing this?) 10. One caveat… this isn't your perfect day some day in the future when you are stupid rich and can sit on the beach all day drinking mai tais. This is your perfect day today. You have to work. You have to take care of the kids. You have to do certain things in your life. Think of the responsibilities you have and when you would want to do them and work that in… 11. Take five minutes and plot out your perfect day. YOUR perfect day… 12. Your goal now is to make your current life that perfect day, meaning you make choices and plans with others based on that perfect day. 13. Everything is now going to be perfect. Episode over… or not. This isn't going to be easy. In fact, it's going to be hard. But the way to get there is to have reasonable expectations. And the expectation you need to ingrain is to just be better today than you were yesterday. Just win the day you are in right now… 14. Step 2 - determine the non-negotiables in your life. Now that you know what you want your life to look like, irrespective of money, it's time to come up with the non-negotiables that will facilitate your perfect day becoming reality. 15. For example… 16. Now, write down a few non-negotiables… and remember, these are things you would be willing to go to the mats for… not some pushover shit. Me? Okay… 17. Step 3 - create your bumpers… 18. Take a look at your past week and put everything in buckets according to the time spent for the entire week. Here are some good buckets: work/sleep/eating/family time. If you have any others feel free to add them. You should have a total of 168 hours when you are done. 19. Now take each of those buckets and average them out. If you are going to work 5 days a week divide your work hours by 5. If you are going to sleep every night, divide by 7, etc. 20. This is the part that you're going to want to resist on, but just hear me out… take those averages and put them in your calendar. That's right, the same amount every day. Here's why… you have the greatest chance for success over the longest period of time if you do the same thing in the same amount of time consistently (this is a topic for an entire podcast episode coming up). When you feel like shit, you do the things. When you feel great, you do the things, AND NO MORE unless you are willing to do them on the days you feel like shit. when you look at it you're going to want to adjust it… don't. Just try it like this, spreading out across all the days, and see what happens. Here's how I'd do it. sleep goes in first. Then work. then eating. then family time. the rest if free time for you to fill up however you want. The only thing I do extra is, if I know there are certain work tasks I want to do every day at a certain time, I'll put those in. For example, I'm doing a facebook live every day. That's inside of the work time specifically. Here's the key… when the things come up, you do them. No excuses. No questions. When you feel great it's easy. When you don't it sucks. It will make you the most productive you've ever been, as even if you don't consciously do anything, you'll still have gotten a lot done. 21. Step 4 - moving forward make tiny adjustments every week or two weeks. For example, if you aren't getting enough sleep, increase that time and decrease something else. 22. Something magical will happen - guilt, shame, and that uneasiness of the unknown will disappear. As long as you are inside the bumpers, everything is great. 23. Before we leave, two warnings… First, communication is key. When you start doing this new stuff, people are going to notice, and they are going to be weirded out. It's important for you to communicate it to them in a way that helps them understand. This is most important for kids, wife, husband, the people that will see the shift (like you insisting on going to bed at 10 pm EVERY night and waking up at 5 am EVERY day). Second, get rid of the arbitrary goals and arbitrary timelines. Focus on winning the day. Give yourself time to put in the work to get the results that you want. That's it… if you happen to be an inner circle member I'm teaching this in depth at our live workshop on June 28th. If you aren't a member right now and want to come, email me and tell you how you can do that… Cheers. --------------------------------------- WIN MY MOST 10 INFLUENTIAL BOOKS! “You know you are ready to scale if it feels like you already have your foot on the gas, and there’s friction somewhere… if you feel like you need to force it, you’re probably not ready to scale.” Nic Peterson (6:02 - 6:12) To scale or not to scale. Before we dive deeper into the topic of scaling, let's get one thing clear - it's not absolutely necessary for you to scale your business. We tend to get caught up with what we see others doing on social media, and it's easy to all into the trap of thinking that we must do the same. Your goals, lifestyle, and circumstances are unique, and you need to figure out what works best for you. Maybe you are happy with the business that you currently have, with the people you're serving, the money you're making, and the life that it provides for you and your family. If that's the case, don't feel compelled to scale because of other's opinions. However, if you feel like you're ready to expand your business to serve more people and have a more significant impact, it's critical that you learn to distinguish between growth and scaling. You can grow your business by selling and acquiring a bunch of new clients. But scaling means you have systems in place to deliver high-quality service to those customers. You must have the processes and infrastructure in place to be able to sustain your growth. “Growth is acquiring more customers by selling on the front-end. Scaling is the ability to deliver the results you’ve promised to all those customers.” - Nic Peterson (8:34 - 8:41)If you've decided you want to scale your business here are a few things to keep in mind. 3 tips for when to scale your business. How to know you're ready? If you get anxious about delivering quality results every time you make a sale, you're probably not ready to scale. Most likely, you don't have systems and processes in place to be able to serve many clients at a high level simultaneously. It might be a better idea to develop a solid foundation first to be able to handle massive growth in your business. Is it ever too early to scale? No, it's not. If you're a visionary, like many entrepreneurs, you're likely to keep going a hundred miles an hour till you hit a wall. Building systems early on, when you have more bandwidth, will allow you to be more deliberate as you implement processes to deliver quality results to your customers while growing at the same time. How about being too late to scale? The answer, again, is no. But this time because it's better late than never. If you already have a business that is running full steam ahead, and then you realize you don't have the foundation to support what you've built, you'll have to hit the brakes so to speak. This drop in momentum can be difficult for entrepreneurs to handle. That being said, you can still scale, ideally with the help of an experienced business coach. “If you start to build the process to scale from the beginning, then you’re going to be creating the systems to sustain growth from an early stage.” - Jeff Moore (11:02 - 11:14) So, to sum it up, it is never too early to scale your business, if you decide that you want to have a greater impact. While it might require you to slow down temporarily, it’s always a good idea to put the right systems in place so you can speed up eventually. To expedite the process, work with a good coach who can help you navigate through the process and put you on the path to massive growth. “When there’s drag, you’re never going to win the race. The harder you drive, the greater the friction and the more power it puts against you.” Jeff Moore (48:42-49:01) Business owners often push back against friction, thinking they can overcome it through sheer force. Ignoring the friction in your business keeps you from reaching your goals and doing the things you love, leading to burnout. Overcoming friction creates efficiency and yields energy to the things that matter. The greater the friction in our work, the more energy we expend during the day and the less energy we have for the things we love to do. That becomes a new source of friction, creating a snowball effect that can wipe your business out if you're not careful. “If you’re able to do the things you love, what are the chances you’ll be more creative and make a bigger impact? It’s an obligation for you to eliminate friction in your business.” - Jeff Moore (48:23-48:38) Are You Running the Wrong Race? There's no shortage of entrepreneurs spending too much time doing things they hate. People who specialize in writing copy struggle when they have to create videos for marketing campaigns. Web designers might be grinding their way through writing sales letters. But they’re running the wrong race. They're channeling their energy into things that take them significantly longer to do than someone better equipped for the job. What if they focused on what they're good at? Chances are, they'd make a lot more and perform at a higher level at a higher volume. You'll never win a race you don't want to be in. Develop Intentionality in Everything You Do Simplifying any message makes it more compelling. The same applies when you're creating intentionality in your work. State your intention clearly and in a way that carries you forward. Get rid of the jargon and create a message that others can easily understand. “The fastest way to get to where you want to go is to take your foot off the brake. That’s the highest leverage and most efficient thing you can do.” - Nic Peterson (49:10-49:28) Defining your role creates an obligation to fulfill that role. There are key questions to ask when going through this process... What is the highest leverage role you're playing? Why is that the role and how is it serving you? What are the non-negotiable rules you play by? What is the one piece of advice you can offer that's rooted in your own abilities and superpower? Anyone who one sits down and answers these questions creates more intention in the role they're playing at work, home, and in their community. Integrity is established alongside that intention. You create an obligation to everyone around you to show up as who you say you are. Others start to expect it of you, further enhancing your intentionality. Doing What You Love in Business Any drag in your day-to-day activities keeps you from doing the things you love and growing a successful business. Eliminating friction lets you be more creative and have a bigger impact on the people you serve. It's every business owner's obligation to identify and eliminate the limiting factors. The harder you push back against friction, the greater it will be, and the more power it will exert back at you. Taking your foot off the brake is the fastest way to get to where you want to be. For today's entrepreneurs, that's the highest leverage and most efficient thing you can do to grow a thriving business. How to get involved An entrepreneur alone is an entrepreneur at risk. “Then suddenly, your followers on Instagram grew by the thousands... And you’ve done this without using any programs or services.” Jeff Moore (15:13 - 15:37) Why you need an audience. In order to have the impact and influence that you want to have, you need to have an audience. Otherwise, you could be creating and sharing some amazing content, but it won’t really have the kind of effect that it should have. Whether it’s on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, or through your own channels like a podcast or blog, you need to build a following if you want to generate revenue, or even just provide content to help people solve a problem. “You don’t have to be great everywhere. Find the place you show up the best.” - Nic Peterson (18:01 - 18:05) However, it isn’t enough to have a large following. You want an audience that is engaged, people that are resonating with what you’re saying, and people that are applying the tips and strategies that you’re sharing. 3 Tips to Grow an Audience Quickly. Pick Your Channel - Don’t try to show up everywhere. Find out which platforms or mediums are most widely used by your target audience, and focus on those. You might have to try a couple of different platforms to figure out where to connect with the people you’re looking for, but once you do, you’ll experience rapid growth in followers. Keep it Simple - People on social media often like content that is actionable and easy to understand. They’re not interested in the “why” or “how,” as much as they are in the “what.” They know the result they want to see, and what they want from you is to explain to them in simple terms how to achieve those outcomes. If you’re creating content, whether it's a blog post or a podcast episode, go through it and pick out the parts that are actionable to share on social media. Build the Right Relationships - Knowing the right people makes it much easier to grow an audience. Find people in a complementary niche or industry with a similar followers. Get on podcasts or Facebook Lives with others that are reaching the same audience. Some of their followers will probably be interested in following you as well. The key is to build relationships with other marketers or entrepreneurs and demonstrate that having you on their podcast or Facebook Live will benefit them as well. “Being the best at what you do and being famous are two different things. The most famous is not always the best. Are you optimizing to be famous, or are you optimizing to be the best?” - Nic Peterson (7:36 - 8:00) To grow your audience, post content that is easy to understand, apply, and share. Listen to this week’s episode of Preeminence Unleashed to learn more about how to grow an audience of engaged social media followers. “Sometimes things do work and we still say they don’t work. We need to identify what ‘working’ is.”Nic Peterson (1:28-1:36) There’s a big trap that many entrepreneurs fall into. They could be bringing in millions of dollars in revenue while wasting countless hours, money, and energy trying to fix things that are “broken” in their business. But what they think is broken, may not actually be broken. The same is true for entrepreneurs who are just starting out, which keeps them from gaining the traction and growth they need. We need to identify what “working” really looks like. How is it that a business owner bringing in a 5x return can still feel like things aren’t working for them? One of the biggest reasons could be that they’re trying to run someone else’s race. They look at other entrepreneurs who have podcasts, YouTube channels, and other business assets and think they should have all those things, too. “Just because somebody else has something you don’t… does not mean things are broken.” - Nic Peterson (2:52-3:00) But you can’t compare your business (or yourself) to others. Your business isn’t broken just because someone else has what you don’t. Yet, many entrepreneurs try to solve problems that don’t actually exist. This is common among Type-A entrepreneurs and anyone with a tendency to always operate in problem-solving mode. Step 1: Is there even a problem? The first thing you need to do is explore whether you have broken components in your business. Acknowledge those things that ARE working in case you’re looking at them as if they’re not. “When something is broken, make sure it’s broken first and then fix it.” - Nic Peterson (4:55-5:00) Step 2: What is the problem? The problem of not having what someone else has might be a sign of a more fundamental issue. Maybe you’re not able to fulfill your promises at scale. Maybe you don’t have the assets that others do because you don’t have the capacity for them yet. Once you decide if you have a problem and you identify what the problem is, you can remove the limiting factor and eliminate that problem. You can then identify the next limiting factor and remove that. This process keeps you from getting stuck on the hamster wheel of solving problems that aren’t there. Taking the time to ask, “Is it broken?” forces you to see what really is broken so you can then solve it. “When you have momentum and your business is growing, stopping everything to build systems for things that don’t matter right now is the worst thing to do.”Nic Peterson (2:56-3:10) Building systems into your business saves you time and money. Systems let you automate repeated tasks at every stage of your sales process, which makes your daily operations more efficient and improves the experience of customers. But systematizing can hurt businesses when it’s done the wrong way. Most businesses focus on a “market then sell” approach that generates the revenue they’re after but leaves them overwhelmed when it’s time to fulfill those sales. So they try to build systems that alleviate the pain of fulfillment but end up wasting time, money, and other limited resources. “Systemize things. But do it in the right order because you have a finite amount of time, energy, and bandwidth.” - Nic Peterson (6:02-6:08)Most of the people who teach business owners how to systematize their operations have never actually grown a business themselves. So they either focus too much on systems or on marketing instead of understanding how the two work together. This has created two flawed business approaches. Market and sell, only to drown in the fulfillment process and piss off your customers when you don’t deliver. Create systems for problems that don’t exist yet and kill your growth momentum in the process. There’s a Better Way to Scale Your Business Entrepreneurs work hard to establish and build momentum. But when you stop everything to create systems for things that aren’t important right now, you pull yourself away from the things that actually lead to growth and increased revenue. Once you lose momentum, you’re dead in the water. There’s a better way to scale your business. Sit down and identify the limiting factors that are slowing down growth. Maybe your onboarding process takes too long, preventing you from selling more. Whatever the limiting factor is, that’s where you should spend your time as an organization. Address the problem by systematizing and optimizing a solution so you never have to address it again. “Build systems and operations for everything at the right time so you always have momentum. You grow by building systems as you remove the limiting factors.” - Nic Peterson (5:06-5:31)Find the next limiting factor to growth. Focus on that and do the same. This approach lets you build systems and operating procedures for the things that impact your growth without losing momentum. Your business grows as you develop its systems rather than repeatedly stopping your growth. Creating systems in order of importance makes more sense than trying to systematize everything. It doesn’t work to create and learn a new system when you can’t use it for another five years. Instead, you could be learning exactly what you need to grow your business right now, setting criteria for completion, and building systems that free up your resources. In the end, you’ll still have the systems and operating procedures for everything you need without slowing down or stopping momentum. Remember, momentum is everything. Focus on growth, and the systems will follow. “It can often seem like your team is lazy and doing the minimum amount of work. But the fact is, you’re not setting complete criteria.”Nic Peterson (1:14-1:26) How do you know when a task is truly complete? Businesses grow and scale when they apply one key concept that most organizations miss. Understanding “complete criteria” can save your business hundreds of thousands of dollars. It eliminates the waste of time that occurs when your organization doesn’t know what “done” actually means. Parents tell their children to clean their rooms. But “clean” means different things to different people. This results in conflict, delays, and frustration. The same thing applies to your business. You might tell a team member to create a sales funnel or make calls to prospects. They do the task, but you come back to find it’s not complete according to your criteria. “Alignment happens when complete criteria have been identified, and everyone knows when the task is complete.” - Nic Peterson (1:40-1:49)Business owners often think employees are being lazy or just not doing complete work. But the real problem is that you’re not setting complete criteria. You have to align the entire team so everyone understands and meets the criteria for completion. This keeps you from having to do the same things over again, which wastes time and money. It lets you know when tasks are done so you take the next step in the process. Setting complete criteria means doing the task and then having everyone agree on what “complete” looks like. Complete Criteria Maximizes Profit in Your Business The few minutes it takes to establish complete criteria throughout your organization can save you time and thousands of dollars. You streamline your workflow when everyone knows they can do X only after Y is complete. A sales funnel isn’t complete if you leave out automations, split testing, and other important elements. Losing a week to go back and make corrections is costly when you’re spending large sums of money on driving traffic each week. “Some tasks might be two tasks. But you only know it when you establish complete criteria and a date of completion.” - Nic Peterson (4:16-4:25) Creating complete criteria means establishing a completion date. This allows you to start making the right decisions at the right times to avoid costly delays. “This is complete when…” should be the foundation of taking on or assigning any task within your organization. When you create complete criteria, you maximize profits while eliminating the delays that hold businesses back. You gain a leading edge over your competitors and put your business on the path to consistent growth for the future. “We assume that regular functioning at regular times is enough to scale. But it’s not.”Nic Peterson (5:40-5:46) When it comes to failure, entrepreneurs need to understand the complexities involved in growing and scaling their businesses. Your business can achieve a 5X return on investment (ROI) and still be running out of money. This keeps business owners running on a hamster wheel that never gets them where they want to be. Businesses are complex systems, and thinking the results you achieve are linear is one of the biggest mistakes you can make. If you double the stimulus, you won’t necessarily double the response. Think of a busy highway. Increasing the number of cars by 10 percent might increase the time it takes to get to your destination by 60 percent or more. “A non-linear response means if you double the stimulus...you’re not necessarily going to get double the response.” - Nic Peterson (1:38-1:47)You can’t rely on a linear model when scaling your business. Things happen in business that make linear growth nearly impossible. Your marketing costs may go up or your market might become saturated. So doubling your marketing spending won’t mean that your profit doubles, too. Responses aren’t linear, and averages don’t matter as much as you think they do. Use Science of Hindsight to Prevent Business FailureAny errors in your business will only increase the time it takes to achieve a result. It will never cause you to get there faster. So entrepreneurs need to pay attention to what actually happens instead of relying on their assumptions. This is where the science of hindsight comes in. You need to measure, manage, and adjust when scaling your business. Hindsight lets you understand the responses more clearly. One of the biggest mistakes entrepreneurs make is assuming that normal function is enough to scale. But it only takes one error to show you how wrong that assumption can be. You can build a larger movie theater that fits more and more people. But if the size of the exit door stays the same, all it takes is for one person to yell, “Fire!” for you to see that it’s not equipped to serve all those people. So, as your business grows, you need to grow its “doors” before you encounter any of the endless issues that can catch you by surprise. “Errors can only increase a length in time. Errors will never cause you to arrive early.” - Nic Peterson (3:21-3:38) Don’t Just Optimize for the Good Times It’s easy to optimize based on the good times when everything is efficient and working smoothly. But when Facebook goes down or YouTube bans your ad account, you have to look at what happened so you can take the right steps to protect your revenue, scale your business for the long term, and achieve a positive ROI. Today’s entrepreneurs need to make business decisions that account for the asymmetry of errors and non-linear responses. When you understand this hard truth, you develop a profitable growth model that helps you get the returns you need to achieve lasting success. “In most masterminds, one person is the hub and everyone else is the spokes. But everyone should be the hub with access to everyone else.” Jeff Moore (12:26-12:44) Business owners join masterminds to connect with other entrepreneurs, establish accountability, and leverage each other’s insights and expertise. Masterminds meet online or through in-person meetups and retreats. These meetings add horsepower to your business engine, giving entrepreneurs a much-needed tune-up that helps them reach their goals faster. But the word “mastermind” is one of the most misunderstood business buzzwords out there today. When they’re done strategically, mastermind retreats improve over time with each meeting elevating into something more. Curation Creates a Powerful Mastermind Network The key to creating a powerful network is to deliver valuable content, resources, and tools. Like a fine art museum that doesn’t try to just pack everything in at once, your mastermind has to be curated in a way that offers members something they won’t find anywhere else. It must help them become the absolute best at what they do. “Serving people at the highest level and being famous are two different things. The most famous is not always the best.” - Nic Peterson (7:41-7:57) Mastermind retreats let you sit down with people who want to be the best in serving others. This creates a collective momentum that fuels every member’s growth. While most business “gurus” focus on visibility, likes, shares, and other vanity metrics, successful entrepreneurs know that serving others at the highest level isn’t the same as being famous. The most famous business leaders aren’t always the best, and just because you’ve never heard of someone doesn’t mean they don’t provide tremendous service to their audience. Building and Leveraging the Collective MomentumThe collective momentum that masterminds and retreats create is what takes your network to a new level of service so you’re always becoming better at what you do. Traditional masterminds position one person as the hub. But a more effective strategy is to view everyone as hubs, giving each member access to the entire network. Curate the conversations and connections that come from your mastermind meetings. This moves entrepreneurs away from abstract theory and towards the practical applications that actually grow their audiences. Growth isn’t something you can force in your business. Trying to force growth beyond your capacity to scale throws you and your business out of balance. You might reach the goals you’ve set, but at the expense of your personal relationships, health, and professional fulfillment. “You can’t force growth… force creates counterforce. It’s really about removing the limiting factors.” - Nic Peterson (26:39-27:03) Having the right mastermind network helps you answer the important questions that consistently move you forward. You get clear on the real reason why you do everything you do, and you discover what’s important to you. The relationships you develop with your network provide thousands of touch points that benefit your business. As the mastermind group becomes better at serving others, your ability to serve skyrockets, and you achieve lasting growth in the process. “Organic and paid marketing are exactly the same. You pay for organic with time, and paid with money.”- Glen Hoddinott (39:25-39:30) When organic marketing isn’t enough, marketers look to paid ads on Google, Facebook, and other platforms. Facebook marketing is still one of the most effective ways for businesses to share their messages with their audiences. Retargeting strategies make it easy for you to reach more of the right customers with the right messages at the right times. Seth Pennington and Glen Hoddinott are two of the top media buyers at ProfitLayer with years of experience managing large marketing campaigns. Their success comes from understanding the importance of diversity in marketing. In order to succeed, businesses need to expand their marketing and find other profitable channels both online and offline. “Initial cold marketing convinces the audience that your product works. Retargeting tells them why it will work for them, while building trust to close the deal.” - Seth Pennington (27:18-27:36)Retargeting lets you appear in front of users who have seen your ads and visited your website and other marketing assets. It’s now extremely affordable to keep your business in front of people when you know how to implement retargeting campaigns. Retargeting Lets You Identify the Most Profitable Target Audiences There are too many factors that influence your audience’s response. Assuming that an ad or sales funnel has failed might cause you to pull the plug too early. Retargeting solves this problem by letting you appear in front of users who have seen you and are interested in your business. Many business owners run expensive cold traffic ads on Facebook for years before they set up a retargeting campaign. They think retargeting is too complicated. But in fact, you can get started by dropping a pixel on all of your online assets to help measure your Facebook ads and identify your target audience. Using the Facebook Ads Manager, you can market to anyone who’s visited your online assets. There’s no need for advanced segmentation. The goal is to remind people who have already seen you that you’re still there. You don’t need to allocate a large portion of your marketing budget either. “You can make a living on organic traffic. But when you start to value your time more than your money, you want to already be set up to pay for advertising.” - Nic Peterson (40:15-40:30) Seth and Glen recommend starting with 10% of what you’re already spending on all your traffic. You’ll need to analyze and adjust the frequency of your marketing for the best results. Facebook assigns a quality score to every Facebook page and ad account. High-frequency marketing may annoy users, causing Facebook to give you a low quality score. This could cost you more to advertise in the future. Keeping your quality score high is essential to long-term retargeting success. You’ll need to determine what messages to send to your audience. If a user has already seen your offer, then case studies and testimonials may be the most effective tools for moving them further into your sales process. If they’ve not seen the offer, then use your best performing ad. So understanding who you’re reaching is essential to getting the best results from your Facebook and retargeting strategies. Retargeting is one of the most effective ways to reach a larger audience and gain a leading edge over your competitors. It lets you address an individual’s pain points at each point in the process. You let them know why your product or service will work for them while building greater trust in your business. Today’s marketer needs to understand paid advertising long before they get to the point where they need it. Most people focus on organic marketing because it’s less costly. But organic and paid marketing each have a price. With paid marketing, the cost is money. But with organic you pay with your time. The successful entrepreneur is one who gets to a place where they value their time more than their money. Paid Facebook advertising and retargeting leverages the behaviors of your audience so you achieve maximum and predictable results at lower costs for higher profits. “Growth is a process of eliminating the friction and limits. It’s not about forcing the thing you’re already doing.” - Nic Peterson (7:56-8:06) Timothy Dick Profit Layer There are countless tools and tactics that business owners can use to build their clients, market their businesses, and generate more revenue. But service providers can struggle to grow their businesses, often trying to force their growth. If you’re a service provider, be careful with trying to force growth. There are certain skills required to grow a service-based business that are different from those used to scale a company. Growing your business comes down to validating your offer and removing limiting factors. When you know people want what you have, and you provide a great service, you no longer have to force your marketing message down people’s throats. You just have to remove the limits to growth. “You have to remove friction when scaling a business. You can’t just work harder and harder. It has to get easier and easier to do the same amount of work.” - Nic Peterson (3:03-3:11)Service providers need to simplify the sales process to avoid the common hurdles that stop them from reaching their goals. Many enjoy rapid growth when first starting their businesses. But they soon hit a ceiling, unable to generate new clients and high-ticket sales. Many turn to paid advertising and running more webinars in an effort to sustain growth. But there’s a different marketing approach that eliminates the hassles of growing a service-based business. Where are you losing sales? Where is friction getting in the way of your business growth? Service providers often lose sales at two points within the sales process - the initial sales call and at the end of the client’s program when there’s an opportunity to buy again. Unlike traditional marketers who follow the “market then sell” approach to growing their businesses, service providers may not get the same results from this strategy. Service-based business owners get better results with a consultative sales process, which starts by providing service and then letting that service make the sale for you. Once you’ve acquired the client, you continue providing service to maintain their business over time. But if you’ve sold a 12-week program, weeks 10 and 11 can feel like a countdown to doomsday. Your client may be dreading what comes next, and you may be dreading having to make another sale. This creates unnecessary friction. “If you’re a phenomenal service provider, market and sell once. But make it as easy as possible...and then provide service. Your clients will stick around forever.” - Nic Peterson (6:29-6:39) Stop trying to sell your prospects. Just serve them. They’ll soon ask you how much your services cost. But this approach isn’t what most service-based entrepreneurs are taught. They learn marketing strategies that are better suited for selling products. When you provide service first, you lower the entry point and increase the lifetime value of each client. You leverage your strength for providing high-level service. Your service does the heavy lifting for you. Achieving lasting growth for your service-based business comes down to marketing and selling your offer once and then letting your service do the rest. The more phenomenal service you deliver, the more likely your clients are to stick around. You eliminate the stress and friction that traditional marketing strategies can create. You're no longer forcing the things you’re already doing. When you lead with service, it’s easy to keep your clients forever. “Business and life are the same things if you’re an entrepreneur. There’s no way to separate those two pieces.” - Malorie Nicole (10:25-10:34)Nic Peterson & Jeff Moore Preeminence Unleashed Entrepreneurs are used to working on the mechanical aspects of their business. They focus on sales processes, fulfillment, marketing methods, and tactics. But they struggle to achieve the kind of exponential growth that results in a six- or seven-figure business. Malorie Nicole helps today’s entrepreneurs get rid of the blocks that keep them from getting more fulfillment and profit out of their businesses. Her clients include marketing specialists, agency owners, copywriters, and business coaches. Malorie’s mindset growth process avoids the tactics that entrepreneurs don’t really need. Instead, business owners need to look at all the junk that’s blinding and keeping them from seeing what really needs to be done to achieve success. “People complain about being busy. But they resist giving up the busyness because it’s become their identity.” - Nic Peterson (8:57-9:09)There are telltale signs that you’re carrying too much junk. If you’re going to bed freaking out about your business or waking up stressing about it no matter how much you’re making, then chances are that there are a lot of things that need to be eliminated before you can achieve real and lasting growth. Entrepreneurs often find that the stress they’re experiencing can be a result of not achieving the success they’re after. But it could just as easily come from achieving too much success. Change Your Mindset to Create New Business BehaviorsOur minds perpetuate stories about the things we do and the reasons we do them. Many entrepreneurs create an identity around “being busy.” They resist letting go of that identity, causing them to spend time and energy on things that don’t actually move their businesses forward. As an entrepreneur, it’s impossible to separate business and life. But many business owners convince themselves that everything will fall apart if they don’t show up. This can keep you from making the right decisions and taking the actions that support your business goals. Modifying behaviors is the first step to creating change in everything you do. There are countless courses available that are designed to help business owners build successful companies. But most of them focus only on the mechanical side of entrepreneurship. In addition, they try to offer all the answers to business problems. But when you base all your decisions on advice from others, you don’t use your own resources or empowered thinking to figure out what you need to be doing. Successful entrepreneurs are those who follow instructions while coming to conclusions on their own. “When we don’t get rid of the junk, we’re adding layers to ourselves. But we’re still carrying all that crap with us, and it’s showing up in our business.” - Malorie Nicole (4:10-4:19) Blanket recommendations don’t work because everyone has different challenges, growth opportunities, and gifts. Rather than ask the “how” questions, you’re better served by asking the “why” questions. When you don’t ask these questions, you disconnect yourself from the intention of the actions you need to take. This leads to resistance to growth and stifles your creativity as an entrepreneur. Beliefs around money can interfere with your ability to build and grow a successful business. How much do you believe you can make? Have you convinced yourself that you’re only capable of earning a certain amount of money? Your experiences cause you to develop beliefs that create a self-imposed money ceiling. Your parents’ relationship with money can influence the beliefs you have around your ability to build wealth. Entrepreneurs need to be honest with themselves about the beliefs and fears that are holding them back. What beliefs are showing up for you? How did you form those beliefs, and are there any situations where those beliefs don’t apply? When you discover that your beliefs are limiting your growth, you can take on new beliefs that contribute to your business success. “If you bake social proof gathering into your fulfillment, it reaffirms the belief that your client made the right decision.” - Justin DeMers (17:03-17:10)Nic Peterson & Jeff Moore Preeminence Unleashed Successful businesses leverage the power of social proof. Your target audience is more likely to take action when they see others who are like them achieve the results they’re looking for. Social proof is a powerful factor to consider when designing and implementing your marketing strategies. But it takes more than an endless testimonial page on your website to generate new clients for your business. Integrating social proof gathering into everything you do builds the assets that compel prospective customers to choose you over your competitors. “If you can articulate the story someone is telling themselves better than they can articulate it, you win.” - Nic Peterson (7:54-8:01)Business owners make the mistake of believing that testimonials are all they need to establish social proof, assuming that visitors will read through all of their testimonials. Let me break it to you. They don’t. To make social proof work for you, it is crucial to offer the right social proof indicators at the right time. Prospects are afraid of being the first one to use the product. Leveraging social proof can give you the power to eliminate the fear that comes with purchasing a new product or service. It allows you to give them the gift of going second. With social proof, new customers gain confidence knowing that others have used your product and achieved real results, and overcomes the obstacle of someone thinking the results of others could never be possible for them. Each potential client has a story they are telling themselves about the potential for success and risk of failure. Utilizing social proof allows you to articulate that story better than the prospect ever could. Prop up the success of your previous clients before touting your own. This builds trust and credibility, which go a long way in building a lasting and profitable brand. Make Social Proof an Essential Part of the Sales ProcessThe secret to using social proof effectively is to bake it into every stage of your process. Whether you’re selling, onboarding, or fulfilling client orders, infuse social proof into every step. Prospects will move through your sales funnel in a more natural way with the guidance of those who are already one step ahead of them. After converting a client, social proof reaffirms that they made the right decision. That belief component makes it easier for you to market and sell your products and services and will increase client retention. Getting feedback is key to building social proof. But don’t just interview customers hoping to extract something for your benefit. Instead, foster one-on-one human interactions that give the individual an opportunity to share something real. People connect to stories that feel real. Video testimonials don’t need high-level production value. Honesty is what matters. “Humans connect to stories that feel real.” - Justin DeMers (24:48-24:53) When you create the right social proof assets, you have the ability to leverage them in the right order at the right time. The online marketplace is filled with marketers who misrepresent claims around their products. Many entrepreneurs show income statements without legally required disclaimers, and customers can be compensated for their story in many ways including access to exclusive content, training, and other benefits. Whether compensation is financial or otherwise, businesses need to be upfront when using paid testimonials. Social proof is more than just getting clients to praise you through testimonials. When you focus on sharing your clients’ successes, and you implement that strategy into your entire sales process, it’s easy to create powerful social proof so your audience has the confidence, trust, and belief to say “yes” to your offer. “We have income equality when we make our own income. Decide what you want to earn and charge that.” - Samantha Hartley (29:03-29:09)Nic Peterson & Jeff Moore Preeminence Unleashed Consultants provide an invaluable service to today’s businesses. But many consultants sell themselves short. They secure a handful of clients, but they struggle to move to the next level of success. Samantha Hartley helps women consultants and experts stop under-earning and get bigger results working with bigger clients while delivering greater value. Consultants learn how to bring confidence and certainty into every meeting they have with clients and show their true value every time. “You can’t affect change in an organization in less than a year. It won’t stick.” - Samantha Hartley (19:58-20:06)Today’s consultants have the tools and resources to do the work they want. But they don’t always live up to their potential, and they remain stuck doing too much work for too little pay. They work with clients who don’t see the value of the services they provide. They develop a habit of playing small, charging low fees and selling smaller packages than they should. They don’t raise their fees out of fear that clients will stop working with them. Most consultants underprice their services. Even consultants who’ve come out of the corporate world and are used to making six figures end up settling for below average fees when going out on their own. Playing a Bigger Consulting Game The most successful consultants are those who gain the tools, skills, beliefs, support, and guidance they need to build their businesses and work with the right clients. Looking at the metrics of your business is the biggest step you can take to achieve better results. However, many consultants are intimidated by the numbers. When you avoid analyzing the numbers, it becomes impossible to create and reach financial goals. Subsequently, consultants become attached to lower fees and are uncomfortable asking for and receiving what they’re worth. “A consultant leads clients as their trusted advisor. If they need something better, tell them they need it. And if you can provide it, offer to provide it.” - Nic Peterson (44:23-44:35) When you walk clients through their own numbers, you show them how much their problem is costing their business. You then position yourself as the obvious choice to solve that problem. For some businesses, problems could be worth millions of dollars in lost revenue. Undercharging your clients hurts your credibility. Clients may not trust that you can solve their problem and fulfill the promises you’ve made. By charging what you’re worth, you emphasize the importance of the services or products you provide. You differentiate yourself from your competitors, and you enhance your credibility and expertise. You can create the consulting business you’ve always dreamed of when you get amazing results for your clients and start trusting the universe when taking risks. When you implement what you learn, you create a work life that matches your vision and helps your clients turn theirs into a reality. “Preeminence is the highest form of leadership.” - Jeff Moore (34:49-34:55)Nic Peterson & Jeff Moore Preeminence Unleashed The Sales You Achieve Tomorrow Are the Result of Your Actions Today Your business success depends on the value you provide your customers and the relationships you develop over time. Preeminence, the quality of being superior to all other options, is one of the most valuable traits you can infuse into your business. Today’s successful businesses create opportunities by fully giving of themselves and offering ongoing value to their customers. Rather than focus strictly on the bottom line, they focus on long-term growth and sustainability. More importantly, they find that when they stop worrying about losing money, they no longer have that problem. They prioritize the needs of the customers to ensure that the business is always positioned as their first and obvious choice. “The number one priority for the culture of your company is to take care of the customer.” - Jeff Moore (13:31-13:36)A common mistake that business owners make is thinking they have to make a sale today. They fail to realize that a sale may come further down the line. Whether it’s six days or six months later, the sales you achieve are the result of your actions today. A strategy built on preeminence is one that leads to long-term growth, reducing marketing costs and amplifying the results you achieve. When you treat people well and give them options that help them meet their personal or professional goals, then achieving results simply becomes a matter of time. Make Preeminence Part of Your Business CulturePreeminence means taking care of the customers first and working out the other “stuff” later. It is believing in gaining lifetime customers and clients. Taking care of the customer should be the primary goal of your company’s culture. The impact of business culture can be seen in the countless companies that are bought out by larger ones. The new company takes over and fails to manage the organization in a way that maintains the momentum and success it’s already achieved. They lose sight of the truly important details and quickly see diminishing results. By taking care of clients and customers as well as your employees, vendors, and other members of your organization, you build trust around your business. Trust creates momentum. Rather than see yourself as your company’s representative to your customers, flip the script and become your customer’s representative to your company. The quality of preeminence must exist in everything you do. It should extend beyond your business and exist in your personal relationships. Preeminence becomes a way of being that supports the results you achieve in all areas of your life. “Preeminence is not a business tactic, it’s a life strategy.” - Nic Peterson (35:44-35:49) You attract success through the person you become. But you must see yourself through the eyes of clients and customers. Having a clear and compelling introduction clarifies the value your business offers. You need to articulate what you do, who you do it for, and how customers benefit from working with you. This helps others see the character of your business, its leadership, and its value propositions. It’s hard for business owners to see the consequences of what they do when they’re tied up in the daily tasks that come with running a business. It’s crucial to have a community around you that supports your ongoing efforts to achieve success in your industry. An entrepreneur alone is an entrepreneur at risk. A community built on the principle of preeminence supports everything you do and creates a business culture that fosters collaboration, service to your customers, and a shared vision. “I look at marketing and tactics, but I also figure out what unique combination makes sense for each business.” - Timothy Dick (5:56)Timothy Dick Profit Layer Online marketing is a hamster-wheel of new techniques, engaging content, and tactic testing. Anyone in the online business world knows how overwhelming it can be to try and stay abreast of the algorithms and strategies associated with marketing to an audience. These tools and tricks have their purpose, of course, but a weapon is only as good as the person who wields it. Your marketing has got to work for you and for your people. Layers are the key. Your business requires a unique mix of efforts and considerations to run at its best - supply chains, onboarding, finances, and of course, marketing. Figuring out the best combination for your business requires hands-on testing and tinkering. That said, the success of your tinkering depends on the effort you put into it, and the foundation you’re building your marketing on. No one can market their way out of having a good offer. Once that pillar is built, it’s time to focus on finding out where your people are. “Spending more money on Facebook is not the only way.” - Nic Peterson (21:09)It’s easy to get caught up in the specifics of each online platform. Should you lean on Facebook, LinkedIn, or Instagram? Ultimately, however, each and every platform comes down to the same goal - to get your offer in front of potential clients. The thing about these online platforms is that they are ever-changing. Algorithms shift and render your best tactics obsolete. It’s tempting to give up and move on to the next network. Tempting, but unproductive. That’s a vicious cycle. Instead, shift with the platform. Tinker and test and try things out until you find something that works. And once you’ve figured out this process, add the layers. Get one optimized, and add another, and keep going. That way, if you lose an account or something falls through, you’ve got more than one leg to stand on. How are you catching the eyes of your audience? Explore your options when it comes to targeting. Retargeting is essential to the process. And this is all behind the scenes of your ad networks. What happens when someone comes into your ecosystem? This is where ad content comes in. Set your ads up to give your audience multiple exposures to your content. Put your ads everywhere and be sure to track the metrics of your audience engagement to help you refine your efforts. There are some intentional ad targeting methods that have been proven to give great results. Geo-location. Narrowing your audience down to attendees at a relevant event and targeting their phones directly is by far preferable to casting the usual wide Facebook net. Refine your language. Getting in front of your people only does so much good if you don’t speak in ways that engage them, relate to them, and make the content easy to understand. Direct mail. This method falls through the cracks, and its effectiveness is often underestimated. It is inexpensive and super-targeted. Transfer results. Reap the rewards of your tinkering by taking your proven strategies from low-impact networks to the heavier hitters like Facebook and Google. Human behavior stays consistent across the board. Give value. What you show your audience is as important as how you show it to them. Above all, put goodwill and value into your market, and your work will speak for itself. You’ll slowly start to stand out in the minds of your audience as they grow to like you and trust you. “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is right now.” - Nic Peterson (39:34) Understand your networks, their inner workings, and how they can be utilized and optimized for your content and your target audience. Now that these methods and tricks are readily accessible and less expensive, there’s no reason not to stack the marketing deck in your favor. The volume of views or leads is less important than the quality. As with all aspects of your business, building layers will ensure long term sustainable success. The best time to plant the targeting layer of your business was when the business was born, but the second best time is right now. “If you haven’t adopted disciplines as you grow, your cash flow starts to dwindle.” - Jeff Moore (3:55-4:15)Nic Peterson & Jeff Moore Preeminence Unleashed Business growth can lead to costly issues that can be easily avoided. When your business blows up, everything within it multiplies. Entrepreneurs must reinforce the relationships they’ve established with their customers, vendors, and employees. Without the right disciplines and systems, you will become overwhelmed as you attempt to adjust to growth. “When you take your eye off the ball, you’re not in growth mode anymore. You’re in save-your-ass mode.” - Jeff Moore (4:44-4:51) As you grow, your company is no longer the same business it once was. Failing to have systems in place negatively affects your bottom line, leaving you unable to hire the people you need to scale and operating from a place of desperation. Disciplines and systems create predictability for you and your customers. Business owners who have grown from zero to a million are used to doing everything themselves. But when they hire someone else to help them reach the next level of growth, they still try to do it all alone. Their business is their baby, and it’s difficult to hand their baby off to others. Structure Influences Behavior Many entrepreneurs are spending money on things that aren’t critical to growth. For a company with a 10% profit margin, saving $100,000 in unnecessary expenses can be equivalent to doing another million dollars in sales. But you could also go out and acquire $1 million in new business without realizing you’ve lost $500,000 somewhere else. The right business structure is essential to your operations. A bad hire can end up costing you ten times the cost of the employee. However, even a rockstar employee is destined to fail if there isn’t a system in place that supports them. Growing businesses need others. An entrepreneur alone is an entrepreneur at risk for lost time, unnecessary friction, and other common pitfalls. Business owners often become addicted to the adrenaline that comes with resurrecting their business after being on the brink of collapse. But in order to build a truly successful business, you need to have a fireproof system already in place. “The person that gets over the initial hump is a different person than the one who got them there. You need those two people, but you can’t be both at once.” - Nic Peterson (11:38-11:57) As a business owner, you don’t have to go it alone. You don’t have to be the hero swooping in to put out fires. Creating disciplines and systems around your work will help you transition into your next stage of growth. Your customers will be better served and you’ll achieve the work life that you want and need for ongoing success. How to get involved An entrepreneur alone is an entrepreneur at risk. “You want to make money and build your business. Step back and look at what you have done before that works. That’s what you should do next.” - Nic Peterson (2:02-2:15)Timothy Dick Profit Layer Keep it simple. Let’s face it. Too many entrepreneurs overcomplicate the marketing process. When it comes to your marketing, keeping it simple may be all you need to sustain growth, acquire more customers, and position your brand as an industry leader. There’s a simple way to get great results without increasing your marketing costs. It’s basic and straightforward, but even businesses that achieve success through launches, special promotions, and other marketing campaigns continue to overlook it. They end up wasting time, energy, money, and other limited resources only left to wonder why they’re momentum stalls. “We get bored and we stop doing things long before they stop working.” - Nic Peterson (1:55-2:00)Long-term growth and an increasing customer base can be achieved by doing one simple thing: Repeat what works. Ask yourself, “Have I ever done something that worked and then never did it again?” Most entrepreneurs realize they’ve made this mistake more than once. But why would they overlook a strategy that seems so simple and obvious? One reason we overlook the strategies that have been successful is that we get bored with what we’re doing. Consequently, we stop doing something way too soon. This happens often in website, branding, and copy redesigns that are done simply for the sake of change. Entrepreneurs often get lost in building new webinars, lead magnets, and other marketing assets. This can feel new and flashy. However, in the process, they increase their marketing spending while diminishing the returns they see with these and other strategies. Ask the Right Questions to Repeat Positive Results.Time, money, and marketing efforts would be better served by observing what has already been done that has been successful and repeating it. Consider where and how you got your previous customers. If they came from social media, keep using that channel to acquire more customers. If you wrote a guest article that drew high-quality traffic to your site, share that article on other platforms or write more guest articles. This approach gives the power to reverse engineer those “happy accidents” that resulted in more business and revenue. Find out what works, then optimize future marketing messages and campaigns to improve results over time. Rather than switch to a completely different strategy, fine-tune and improve what you know will bring in new customers and help you achieve your business goals. “Find what works. Repeat it, repeat it, and repeat it. It really can be just that simple.” - Timothy Dick (5:05:5:15)In order to see what’s working, put a system in place for measuring the results of your marketing efforts. You can reduce any errors you’d otherwise make and determine the costs associated with finding prospects and converting them to into paying customers. Without measuring marketing campaigns, you’re more likely to increase costs and cut into the bottom line. Setting goals is the first step to determining if what you’re doing is still working. Rather than blindly marketing products or services, figure out what’s worked in the past and do more of it while optimizing the approach for better results. Repeating what works is one of the simplest and most effective ways to maintain your growth within your industry. Putting this strategy in place gives you a leading edge over your competitors and will exponentially increase your success and sustainability. “The way you can tell who is truly a genius, or an expert, is that they know how much they have left to learn.” - Janelle Lara (5:40)Janelle Lara The Part-Time CEO Serving simply and from a mindset of abundance is the highest and most successful state for an entrepreneur. When smart people live and serve simply, magic happens. In fact, the smartest among us, the experts and teachers, are the people who have committed themselves to being lifelong students. Instead of seeking answers to questions, they just learn how to ask better questions, and then pass their wisdom along to others. Nic Peterson is one such person. A successful entrepreneur, Nic's primary role for his clients is, and ever has been, to trim away the mindset issues and layers of complexity in order to figure out the small percentage of work they actually should be doing. “With complexity comes unreliability. The more complex something is, the less reliable it is.” - Nic Peterson (18:43)One of the most important parts of constructing a business this way is figuring out, as the entrepreneur, what do you want your life to look like? Not what your revenue goals are or your perfect bottom line, but what makes you happy? Do you want more time with your family, or the freedom to pursue a favorite hobby? Your work should ultimately give you the life you want, while allowing you to serve others joyously. To that end, adopting a mindset of scarcity - or just failing to leave one behind - can lead to a lot of unnecessary complications. When you worry and strategize about casting your net wide instead of serving your people, your business becomes every complex, and therefore unreliable. Instead, cultivate the thing you love to do and do well, and wake up every day, happy to do it. Fall in love with the process, not with your idea of the results. The people you surround yourself with will have an indelible effect on your growth and your journey. Be sure to choose wisely. Finally, humans generally work best surrounded by other humans. Entrepreneurs thrive when they intentionally put themselves into a diverse environment of peers who provide both a challenge and a much-needed perspective check. It is entirely natural to normalize the progress you make towards your goals. Think back: maybe there was a time when all you wanted was to work steadily and work hard, and make a decent amount of money. As you progressed to that point and beyond, it's very likely that you're still pushing and pushing to reach your goals - not realizing that you're miles away from where your first checkpoints were. This is exactly why we need good people around to say, “Look behind you, look where you've been”. “You have to understand your strengths, build your business around that, and then just show up and do it.” - Nic Peterson (53:47) Janelle Lara refers to this state of ecstatic, perpetual drive as “blissful discontentment”. Stripping away the tactics, politics, and insecurities to function as a service provider in love with serving is simply the best way to do business. “If you don’t have a good product, you can spend millions of dollars and a lot of time in marketing, but it won’t work.” - Timothy Dick Marketing is not a trendy advertising method. A lot of people think marketing is business. We have a lot of ‘experts’ and ‘gurus’ out there teaching ‘marketing.’ What they’re actually teaching is an advertising method. People often look at a certain tactic and mistake it for marketing. When you break it down, the layer of marketing is all about helping people and solving a problem. It’s that simple. In order to have an effective marketing strategy, there are a few key questions to ask: What are you offering? Does it solve a problem? Most importantly, does your market recognize the problem that you’re solving? You could have an excellent product, and spend millions in advertising, but if your market doesn’t see the problem, they aren’t going to give you their money. It can be easy to get distracted by the array of marketing platforms available. Each platform serves a purpose, but it may not serve you. Everything may work in the proper context, but it’s important for you to determine what is the most effective, least expensive, and fastest path to getting your product in front of your target audience. “The two major metrics I look at are the cost per acquisition and the return on ad spend.” - Timothy Dick Broaden your scope. Enhance your marketing. As business owners, it can be easy to default to a trendy marketing strategy or zero in on one platform or channel. One of the worst situations we see is a client who may be doing millions per month, but they are only utilizing one platform. Everything is changing all the time. Anyone who tells you that you can put all of your focus on one platform is ill-informed. Algorithms and trends shift regularly. If all of your marketing eggs are in one proverbial basket, a single algorithm change could set you back at square one. Having multiple channels will ensure that your profits will remain unaffected in the midst of ever-changing marketing algorithms. “I’ve seen people optimize optimize optimize… but it’s not actually what they should be optimizing for if they want a healthy business. What is good for cheap leads, won’t be good for profit.” - Nic Peterson This week, take a step back and make a list of all of your marketing channels. Where are all of the places you get your business? Take an objective look at that list and ask yourself, are you comfortable with the number of marketing channels you are utilizing? Take this list a step further. Add the sources of random clients that you didn’t gain through intentional marketing. You may have some channels working for you that have been underutilized and could be strong marketing channels for your product or service. “Asking the right question is a skill and a weapon.” - Nic Peterson Socrates once said, “The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.” Success in your business isn’t dependant on having the right answers, but in knowing which questions to ask. Questions are everything. They are the key to your own growth and your business and personal relationships. Learn how to master the art of questions, and gain a new skill and weapon to wield at will. “People want to be told what to do, but when you can provide someone with better questions to ask, they will have the fuel to propel them into whatever stratosphere they want to go into.” - Jeff Moore Most of the time, people just want you to tell them what to do. It can feel simpler, easier, less scary that way. However, unless you are desiring to grow a needy client-base that is dependent on you for their every move, questions need to be your greatest used resource, and your default in conversations. Questioning is so much more powerful than telling, and can be utilized to help facilitate an individual’s growth, helping to guide them towards their own answer. Start being more aware of your conversations with clients. Are you quick to provide a solution? Are you elevating yourself as an expert, instead of helping to elevate your client? While it’s important to ask questions of others, it’s equally, if not more important to consistently be asking yourself questions. Become a detective of your actions, your motivations, and your pursuit of data. “The process of discovery is not ‘tell me the answer,’ it’s asking questions that prompt more questions. It’s a series of questions that lead to growth.” - Nic Peterson Become a master of asking questions. Not only will you find yourself learning more about your clients, friends, and family, but you’ll find that people in your circle of influence will become better at asking questions as well. One way to do this is to start answering the questions that people ask. So many times, people aren’t asking the questions they really want to be answered. If they’re asking the wrong question, does it really matter what the answer is? People tend to hover closer to the surface or stay “safe” with vague, hypothetical questions. Challenge others to dig deeper and be bolder with their questions. When a client asks how to make $100,000 quickly, you can tell them to just sell all of their stuff. These answers could frustrate in the short-term, but hopefully, it will help them to think more about the questions they ask. What that client really wants to know is how to build a successful, sustainable business. To get there, they’ll need to ask bigger, more specific questions. Help them grow, instead of enabling their timidity. Questions lead to more questions, and there is never a time when there aren’t more questions to ask. That, my friend, is a beautiful thing. “Questions are the sculptor of the soul.” - Jeff Moore Some Topics we talk about in this episode: Introduction - 0:36 The Importance of Questions - 4:22 Some Really Important Questions - 6:36 The Benefit of Questions for Others - 10:22 Don’t Ask Lazy Questions - 14:53 Wrap-up and Takeaways - 27:36 How to get involved An entrepreneur alone is an entrepreneur at risk. “Success, and success in life for him is the process...he defines success after he finishes the process. It’s a function of the process, not a function of the destination.” Much of the rhetoric surrounding goal achievement has to do with “shortcuts” promising fast results with minimal effort. Preeminence, on the other hand, involves falling in love with the process – not the expectation of a certain result. Those who stay focused on the end goal or the idea of a desired result will find themselves unhappy for every day that they aren’t at that point. They become vulnerable to giving up when things go wrong on the journey. A person who falls in love with the process gets to fully enjoy each and every day that they are working towards their goal, because they’re loving the steps and loving where they lead. After all, the process is the shortcut – and you can’t win a race you don’t want to be in. “You cannot be running as fast as you can if you’re staring at the finish line. You do not get to choose if the bases are loaded when you come up to bat. Hit the ball.” That’s an overwhelming concept at the start (for a lot of people). Nic Peterson is a prime example of loving the process and engineering it in a way that works, like so: Figure out what moves the needle – Part of avoiding stress as you figure your process out is isolating the few behaviors that keep your trajectory moving steadily upward. Do those things every day – This is every bit as simple as it sounds. Pick the two or three most beneficial factors for your journey and do them steadfastly every single day. Put the work in long-term – Like all worthwhile things, getting to your goal means showing up and putting in the work every day for as long as it takes, be it weeks, months, or years. Don’t crash and burn when you slip up – Failure is part of success. All you can do is look at whether or not you did the few things you set out to do, and if you didn’t, wake up tomorrow and do better. “If you’re still in a place of judgment, judge your own behavior. That is the only thing you have any right to judge if you want to achieve anything.” Finally, record the progress you’re making. This allows you to look back and see yourself moving positively forward, analyze your wins and losses, and constantly improve. There’s truly no better way to phrase all this advice (or make it actionable) than to say, “The process is the shortcut”. Fall in love with the process, commit to it like you would any other relationship, and put in the work. You’ll get there. “We are so excited for not what this is today, but what it will become.” Welcome to Preeminence Unleashed. In this first episode, Nic Peterson and Jeff Moore sit down to jam on what it means to be preeminent - and how preeminence will revolutionize your business and the way you serve the people around you. This is a concept that has the potential to carry over to every piece of how you live and what you do, and to make your work transcendent. “That’s what Preeminence Unleashed is going to be: someplace where somebody can go and hear stories and examples of somebody being preeminent, somebody that had persevered through this world of sameness and mediocrity and taken that big step into becoming more and really evolving into preeminence.” Nic and Jeff also touch on the spirit of collaboration that flows through every network, gathering, and interaction they take part in. One of the principles that drives this community dynamic is the idea that, “An entrepreneur alone is an entrepreneur at risk”. Throughout the episode, the guys describe doing vs. being, living out the philosophy of preeminence, and learning from the legendary Jay Abraham. “Being preeminent is about becoming part of that person’s story.” And this is just the beginning. There’s so much great insight and actionable advice in store from Nic, Jeff and the superstar service providers they collaborate with day to day. They say niching has its perks. It’s more marketable and profitable. Although that may be true, entrepreneurs are full of ideas. And it’s through business they have most freedom to express themselves. No wonder picking one niche feels counterintuitive. On the other side of niching, you’ll find Nic. I have been working with my guests since June, 2016 to figure out some health issues. They are one of the first to ever see me and not my weight. They didn't just assume that I was heavy because I ate junk all day. After having me log everything I ate for two weeks they informed me I was not eating ENOUGH! It has taken close to 7 months but I am now up to about 1100-1200 calories/day and I have dropped about 20 pounds. It is a struggle each day to remember to eat the right things in the right proportions but it gets a little easier because I have their support and guidance. The right COACHES Matter! Talk about having to ask the right questions and being willing to let go my own perceptions about eating, food and my beliefs about weight. On this episode we talk about structured eating, mindset vs willpower, how tracking what you eat puts you on the path to change and how to get some free advice on the next steps you need to take.
