Retired Lt. Gen. E. John Deedrick served as the final commander of the Combined Security Transition Command –Afghanistan (CSTC-A). He also held the position of Deputy Chief of Staff for Security Assistance (DCOS SA) at the Headquarters of Resolute Support; the NATO mission in Afghanistan. He was the United States Military Representative to NATO and commanded 1st Special Forces Command. The Jedburgh Podcast, the Jedburgh Media Channel and the Green Beret Foundation are proud to announce our partnership with the University of Health and Performance outside of Bentonville, Arkansas. To kick off our combined investment in the development of our Special Operators post service, Fran Racioppi sat down with Lt. Gen. Deedrick to discuss his take on the Army today, where it came from and where it's going. As one of the last senior leaders in Afghanistan he gave his honest assessment of the withdrawal, the impact leave has on our allies and Special Forces Operators, and what the void left has done for the Taliban and American national security. They also discuss the importance of our allies, why NATO works, and how Special Operations has evolved to fight unconventional warfare, counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism in the Grey Zone through integrated deterrence. Finally, they talk about the effect of politics on our military and why our leaders all want the same goal, but have different paths to get there. In the next episode of our new Academic Arsenal series – focused on NPS students' defense-relevant research – host Eric Czaja speaks with two U.S. Air Force senior pilots in the defense analysis program whose examination of amphibious aircraft could offer an innovative solution to logistics challenges in the Indo-Pacific. Trident Room Podcast host U.S. Army Maj. Eric Czaja has a conversation with NPS Department of Defense Analysis students U.S. Air Force Maj. Bobby Strain and U.S. Air Force Maj. Tim Marti. This episode was recorded on August 31, 2024. Maj. Bobby Strain is a U.S. Air Force senior pilot with more than 2,450 flying hours in the C-5M and KC-135R/T. A 2011 ROTC graduate of the Colorado School of Mines, he has flown missions worldwide, including combat missions in support of Operations Enduring Freedom, Resolute Support, Inherent Resolve, and Freedom's Sentinel. Maj. Tim Marti is also a U.S. Air Force senior pilot with more than 2,000 hours flying the U-28 and other various AFSOC aircraft, including combat missions in Operation Inherent Resolve. Together, Strain and Marti have authored a joint thesis entitled “Airpower Beyond the Runway: Amphibious Aircraft to Enhance Agility in INDOPACOM.” Their thesis explores how seaplanes, specifically amphibious aircraft, can support the U.S. Joint Force while also creating challenges for adversaries in the Indo-Pacific. The study explores the limitations of current assets and the advantages of utilizing seaplanes in two fictional scenarios. Utilizing a mixed methods qualitative/quantitative approach to compare seaplanes against various platforms – including aircraft, ships, boats, and submarines – the study showcases the seaplane's unique advantages due to its speed, range, and access to remote locations. The study concludes with a series of recommendations for the DOD to inform decision-makers of the potential for investment in amphibious aircraft, and suggests courses of action to validate the requirement. ----------------- The Trident Room Podcast is brought to you by the Naval Postgraduate School Alumni Association and the Naval Postgraduate School Foundation. www.npsfoundation.org For comments, suggestions, and critiques, please email us at TridentRoomPodcastHost@nps.edu, and find us online at nps.edu/tridentroompodcast.
Yhdysvallat on vetämässä joukkojaan Afganistanista. Trumpin ilmoitus on herättänyt kritiikkiä. Toimittajana on Linda Pelkonen.

Jason looks forward to continued involvement in supporting and showcasing the community that he loves and using his exceptional leadership ability and experiences to promote positive growth everywhere he can.The Strength in Numbers podcast is the brainchild of Neal Keohane. At the very beginning of COVID, which seemed terrifying (and still is…), he wanted to provide a resource for folks to use. We went through several iterations and after discussion, we concluded that tactical resource needs were being met but what we need more of was inspiration. Thus, Strength is focused on “together, we can overcome anything” and people who demonstrate “grit, determination, and perseverance.”Produced by B. Gen. John Campbell, CDR., Resolute Support talks about how Resolute Support is preparing Afghan leadership to maintain and move forward.
With international forces in Afghanistan having moved from a combat role to one focusing on advising, training and assisting, we take a look at the realities of the new Resolute Support mission on the ground. Out in eastern Afghanistan, as across the rest of the country, international forces remain in close partnership with their Afghan counterparts, albeit in a new role exclusively training, advising and assisting. We speak to two U.S. trainers helping the Afghan army stationed in Nangarhar Province with artillery and engineering support. This version includes voiceover and graphics.

There’s just a month to go now before NATO begins a new mission in Afghanistan.
