I like the way she bucked convention by not following the traditional speaker path. ACTION: For your action item this week I want you to think out of the box the same way Melissa did. In her case, she chose to do webinars-only instead of in-person speaking events. Is there a path you're not following because of constraints due to a full-time job, family responsibilities, location, cost or something else? Try to think of a way around the problem.  You don't need to stick to traditional rules with your business. Make it your own and push yourself out of your comfort zone to make it happen. If you like, head to the TGP Action Group on Facebook and share your obstacles and we'll see if we can come up with solutions. News The Genealogy Professional podcast is now available on Spotify. Search for either Marian Pierre-Louis or genealogy to find it. Don't forget to follow! I'm trying to get on a bi-weekly schedule for the podcast. Ryan’s argument for pantheism (the belief that ‘God is the universe and the universe is God’) provides an exciting and unique take on not just the type of god we should believe in, but also the way in which we might come to establish its existence. In short, Ryan thinks that the emotion of awe - that profound, ineffable feeling that one has when they see Van Gogh’s Starry Night or a meteor burning up in the atmosphere - can point us in the direction of things which are divine. The greatest object of awe, says Byerly, is the cosmos, and therefore, the cosmos is the most divine thing. Contents Part I. The Awe-Some Argument for Pantheism. Part II. Dr. Gerard Doherty, an acclaimed endocrine surgeon, is a graduate of Holy Cross and the Yale School of Medicine. He completed residency training at UCSF, including Medical Staff Fellowship at the National Cancer Institute.  Dr. Doherty joined Washington University School of Medicine in 1993, and became Professor of Surgery in 2001. In 2002 he became Head of General Surgery and the Norman W. Thompson Professor of Surgery at the University of Michigan, where he also served as the General Surgery Program Director and Vice Chair of the Department of Surgery. From 2012 to 2016, Dr. Doherty was the Utley Professor and Chair of Surgery at Boston University and Surgeon-in-Chief at Boston Medical Center before becoming Moseley Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School, and Surgeon-in-Chief at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.  Dr. Doherty was trained in Surgical Oncology, and has practiced the breadth of that specialty, including as founder and co-director of the Breast Health Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital.  His clinical and administrative work was integral in the establishment of the Siteman Cancer Center at Washington University.  Since joining the University of Michigan in 2002, he has focused mainly on surgical diseases of the thyroid, parathyroid, endocrine pancreas and adrenal glands as well as the surgical management of Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndromes. He has devoted substantial effort to medical student and resident education policy.  His bibliography includes over 300 peer-reviewed articles, reviews and book chapters, and several edited books.   He currently serves as President of the International Association of Endocrine Surgeons, Past-President of the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, Editor-in-Chief of VideoEndocrinology and Reviews Editor of JAMA Surgery.  He is a director of the Surgical Oncology Board of the American Board of Surgery. In this episode, the following topics are discussed: Imaging has increased thyroid nodule discovery. Following patients with small thyroid cancer — analogous to prostate cancer.  Better followed than treated. Tiny thyroid cancers can be defined by those nodules less than 1/4 inch in size.  Less RAI is being used as a part of thyroid cancer treatment. This means, less need to do total thyroidectomy or thyroid lobectomy.    Dry mouth and dry eyes are risks to doing RAI.  Also, there is risk to developing a second malignancy.   Most of the secondary cancers are leukemia. Risks to operation include changes to voice and calcium levels.  Thyroid surgery is a safe operation but not risk free. Best question for a patient to ask is, who is my treatment team? The quarterback of treatment team is often the endocrinologist . Cluster of issues can happen after RAI, such as the need to carry water and eye drops for life. For some patients taking thyroid hormone replacement, their blood levels are correct, but still does not feel well on standard treatment protocol. By the end of two weeks, most people go back to what they were doing before surgery with a relatively normal state. Scarring reduction; massage, aloe, Vitamin E. Introductory statements were made by Neelam Chhara, Co-founder of Decolonising Our Minds and final year politics student. Discussions around legacies of colonialism have been highlighted nationwide through campaigns such as Why Is My Curriculum White and the Rhodes Must Fall Oxford movement which have underlined the colonial violence embedded in universities. What does it mean for an institution to be “white?” How does coloniality affect the higher education institutions we are part of? How do we confront the white institution and what can be done to decolonise the academy? Historically, we can see that universities have the potential to be sites of radical thought, however what they have struggled to embrace and accommodate is non-Western thought, ways of knowing and worldviews. In light of SOAS’s centenary, it is particularly important that we examine SOAS’s founding and history with a critical gaze. How does a university like SOAS which has a particular regional focus on Africa and Asia, remain coloured by Whiteness? Panelists are: Dr. Meera Sabaratnam - Meera Sabaratnam is Lecturer in International Relations at SOAS. Prior to this, she was a Temporary Lecturer in Politics and International Studies at the University of Cambridge and LSE Fellow in the Department of International Relations at LSE. She co-edited Volume 37 of Millennium: Journal of International Studies from 2007-8 and served as Reviews Editor for the Journal of Intervention and Statebuilding from 2010-13. She currently co-convenes the Colonial, Postcolonial and Decolonial Working Group of the British International Studies Association Dr. Rahul Rao - Rahul Rao has research interests in international relations theory, the international relations of South Asia, comparative political thought, and gender and sexuality. He is currently working on a book on queer postcolonial temporality. His first book Third World Protest: Between Home and the World (Oxford University Press, 2010) explored the relationship between cosmopolitanism and nationalism in postcolonial protest. Adam Elliot-Cooper - Adam has a BA in Politics from the University of Nottingham, an MSc in Globalisation & Development at the London School of Oriental & African Studies and is currently undertaking a PhD at University of Oxford's School of Geography and the Environment. Dr. Kerem Nisancioglu - Kerem Nisancioglu is a Lecturer in International Studies at SOAS. Kerem’s research focuses on Eurocentrism in international relations, and how this Eurocentrism can be subverted in both theory and history. In particular, his research has explored the ways in which non-European societies have been constitutive of European social relations in the early modern period.

In One Life Left's experience* there are three sorts of letters that come in card-backed brown paper envelopes.1) Signed contracts from the BBC offering million pounds to transfer our special brand of broadcast magic to Radio 4,2) Legal threats from easily offended games industry professionals who we might have erm accidentally defamed or you know whatever,3) Glossy, black and white spy photos of the team being touched in and / or touching at least four separate places.Imagine the rush when we arrived at the studio to find a brown, card-backed envelope waiting for us. Real post! Addressed to us c/o Resonance! Without us ever giving out the address! This could be great! Or terrible!Experience the thrill with us as we bite our lips and open it live on air.Oh yeah, there's other stuff that's actually games-related too. For example, Dan Griliopoulos, Reviews Editor at Official Xbox Magazine as recently as last week and now A Free Man, breaks his monastic silence on the things that matter. Like how you really pronounce Koch, whether Mass Effect is just one long corridor after another, and what happens when games journalists stop journalising.Actually, it's something of a reviews special this week as we cover Call of Duty 3, Super Mario Galaxy, that new Metroid one on the Wii which one would assume is exactly like every other 3D Metroid game ie a lifetime of scanning, Zoo Tycoon on the DS (?!) and whatever Ann's been playing. Ann? Ann?Oh whatever. Ignore her, ane enjoy the two comebacks from people you might have thought gone forever, and the moment when finally, finally, we get someone on the phone.Important things we forgot to do across the hour of :1) The Jade Raymond thing. We'll do that next week.2) The Facebook 'secret' thing. We will probably just announce this on Facebook this week even though we forgot to trail it. But we'll talk about it next week for sure.3) A 'write to us about this'   for the letters section. Jesus Christ, it's not rocket science. Next week, next week.4) Credit the music. It was CFCF's remix of Justice's D.A.N.C.E. and 6955's awesome 'Museum'.Thanks for listening. Join us next week for more things we haven't really thought through, including attempted Skype-with-a-Developer nonsense and a non-Ann-art related competition and ANOTHER feature resurrection. See you!* ImaginationSort of handy links:One Life Left Facebook GroupOne Life Left MyspaceOne Life Left ForumAnd email us at team@onelifeleft.com about anything, really. If Ste sounds angry it's because he had a terrible sandwich in Costa before the show. If Ann sounds angry it's because she's trying to work out what 'bitchkrieg' means. If Simon sounds angry it's because Ste is gesturing. Levels are a bit all over the place again this week, apologies for that.
