The cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw has been nominated for an Academy Award for “Sinners," an American horror film nominated this year for a record sixteen Oscars and thirteen BAFTAs. It's a period drama written and directed by Ryan Coogler, set in the 1930s South, with a supernatural twist. Autumn's previous credits include The Last Showgirl and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Anita talks to Autumn about her career so far and becoming the first woman of colour - and only the fourth woman ever - to be recognized in the Oscars cinematography category.Following the summer riots in 2024, the Women and Equalities Committee examined the impact of increasing tensions on women in Muslim communities across the UK and reported that the online, verbal and physical abuse and discrimination faced by Muslim women was having a ‘deeply damaging impact on individual lives and a corrosive effect on community cohesion'. Baroness Shaista Gohir OBE, CEO of the Muslim Women's Network and Iman Atta, CEO of Tell Mama join Anita to discuss the WEC's findings.AI companions are becoming increasingly common, with one in three adults now using them for conversation, advice and support. Now recent research from Bangor University has shown that many teen AI companion users believe their bots can think or understand. That research prompted Nicola Bryan, a reporter for BBC Wales News to investigate and acquire an "AI boyfriend" of her own in the process. Nicola talks to Anita about what happened next.Autism probably affects girls and boys equally, according to a long term study by the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden. The new research challenges previously held assumptions that autism is more common among males; it found that by the age of twenty, the male-to-female ratio of diagnoses was equal. But in children aged under ten, four boys are diagnosed for every one girl. To discuss the findings, Anita is joined by Doctor Judith Brown, Head of Evidence and Research at the National Autistic Society and Betsey, an autistic 18-year old university student.Presenter: Anita Rani Producer: Rebecca Myatt

Once Upon a Time in the world of professional boxing....Apollo Creed was the champion of the world. He eventually lost his title to Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone who would receive an Oscar nomination for his performance in this film) who would also lose the title before winning it back with Apollo as his trainer. They remained very good friends right up until the day that Apollo tragically lost his life during an exhibition match against the feared Russian boxer, Ivan Drago. But did you know that Apollo actually had a son right before he died??That son is Adonis Johnson (Michael B. Jordan) and he has now become a boxer himself to the consternation of his mother (Phylicia Rashad), only he has been struggling to find some one who can train him. So one day he travels across the country to Philadelphia to seek out the former champion whom his father trained when he needed him the most.....and after some hesitation, Rocky decides to train him as he works his way up the professional boxing circuit. Along the way, Adonis also finds a companion in Philly with the lovely singer Bianca (Tessa Thompson) when suddenly, he has the opportunity to fight for the SAME boxing title which his father previously had. What results is one of the most beloved sports dramas of recent years directed by future Oscar-nominee Ryan Coogler (Black Panther, Sinners) as his first major studio film. Joined by Madison Farr, Damon and Damo sit down for a wide-ranging conversation on accountability, leadership, and the lasting effects of how Sailors are treated after mistakes. The episode opens with a brief check-in and an apology for a previous error before Madison shares her experiences in the Navy, including two separate Masts and a tragic incident that shaped how she viewed discipline, leadership, and her own career. The discussion covers fraternization, issues with her LPO, and the idea of not letting getting in trouble define you, along with what accountability should look like after NJP. Damon, Damo, and Madison talk through leadership responsibilities, the difference between consequences and abandonment, and what it means to do right by your people. Lighter moments include early Navy misadventures, her first time checking into a command, and reflections on the good moments from her time in uniform. The conversation also touches on warfare pin restrictions, Madison's current work at MEPS, and what she sees from the other side of the accession process. In the Do Better segment, the guys discuss installation safety, matching energy, navigating transition, and the need for leadership to be less judgmental. The episode closes with Madison grading the Chiefs' Mess, sharing her perspective on DRBs, weighing in on The Rip and Sinners and its record-breaking nominations, and offering feedback on what leaders can do better. These and more topics are covered in this episode. Do you have a “Do Better” that you want us to review on a future episode? Why are large numbers of people in Minneapolis, many educated, choosing to do things that to many of us just don’t make sense? Is Christ, the prophet to His Church, revealing something to His people? If so, what is it? Is the answer something more than "Sinners sin"? I think so. My answer may be controversial, but I think it affects the "strategy" we need going forward?

Jesus Followers' Personal Relationship with Jesus Comes from Humility as Sinners Through Seeking God's Mercy in Prayer MESSAGE SUMMARY: We do not deserve it; but we able to come to God, in a Personal Relationship with Him, because of His Mercy. We are all sinners. As Paul tells us in Romans 9:18: “So then he has mercy on whomever he wills, and he hardens whomever he wills.". With God's Justice without His Mercy and His resulting Grace, you would face only eternal death as Justice for your sins. We can never enter God's presence for prayer when we are in our pride with our focus on ourselves. Also, Paul reminds us, in 1 Corinthians 1:30-31, that, in your Salvation through God's Grace, Jesus makes us “boast” only in the Grace provided us by God: “And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption, so that, as it is written, ‘Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.'”. We can only enter God's presence when we humble ourselves in Jesus. Humility and penitence before God invite His presence – here I am, Lord; just as I am; have mercy on me a sinner. TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, everything in me resists following you into the garden of Gethsemane to fall on my face to the ground before you. Grant me the courage to follow you all the way to the cross, whatever that might mean for my life. And then, by your grace, lead me to resurrection life and power. In Jesus' name, amen. Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 100). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, because I am filled with the Holy Spirit, I will not be controlled by my Insensitivity. Rather, I will walk in the Spirit's fruit of Gentleness. “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22f). On this snowed-in virtual episode of The MalloryBros. Podcast, the guys kick things off with a weekend recap, including preparing for the storm, getting snowed in, and the chaos of the grocery hunt. They then address the continued tragedy in Minnesota at the hands of ICE before shifting gears to the freshly announced Oscar nominations. The conversation begins with the new nominees, then zeroes in on Sinners, which broke the nomination record with 16 nods. The Bros share theories on why, despite the historic showing, it may still fall short of winning the biggest awards. From there, the discussion turns to Kanye's written apology and why it is valid for people to still feel hesitant about rushing back to support him. This opens up a deeper conversation about parasocial relationships, fandom, and how community loyalty can sometimes pressure fans into forgiving their favorites for anything out of fear of losing that shared space. The guys also break down A$AP Rocky's Don't Be Dumb, where they feel Rocky missed the mark on his return from hiatus. To wrap it up, Terrell reacts to the Broncos' loss, Terrance celebrates the Seahawks' win with A-Train, and the Bros give their Super Bowl predictions.
