You most probably know our guest already. This time we had the honor to be joined by Don Norman, author of "Design of everyday things" or "Design for a better world" , Co-Founder of the Nielsen Norman Group, University Professor and so much more for many of us. We spoke about morning walks, elaborated on Humanity Centered Design and why Dons latest book was a different one, when he started writing it. We discussed about the importance of curiosity and made the connection between design, business and decision making and how it relates to sustainability. We spoke about sustainability and why it can only be the beginning and why it is good to be wrong sometimes. And we discussed how human centered design is wrong and why and how it needs to be enhanced and changed. So, if you want to learn more about Humanity Centered Design and what is wrong with Human Centered Design, about how Don writes his books, but also about how to stay curious and not get older, even when you are 88, join us for this episode of the SUX podcast. I walked by Shakespeare's Globe Theatre after a weekend of wrestling with Booking.com and TravelNest‘s service agents, trying unsuccessfully to not let them screw up my London vacation rental. The Macbeth soliloquy about a tale “full of sound and fury, signifying nothing” pretty much summed up my experience — lots of talk that yielded nothing. But before that, we catch up on Hertz's EV reversal, Sioux City, Iowa's embrace of their SUX airport code, and a flash-in-the-pan airport delay betting app.Check out this episode's show notes for a transcript of the episode and links I mention here

Today we have something very special for you. Finally here it is: the lost episode. Last year we recorded this wonderful and extra long episode with Xhensila Reci from LEGO to speak about Purpose Driven Design. For several reasons, we did not manage to cut it and to decide if we should keep it this long, re-cut it, or make two episodes of it. Since the whole conversation with Xhensila was just wonderful and super insightful, we decided that we did not want to cut anything out. The SUX friendship book was super insightful and we also played Xhensilas wonderful game “Someone You”. So, this interview became the first episode that consists of two parts. This part - Part 1 - contains the main conversation, where we spoke about purpose driven design, Xhensilas work at LEGO and how it strongly connects to purpose driven design. Part 2 will be released next week as a bonus episode that contains the SUX Friendship Book and also the part where Xhensila and Thorsten play Xhensilas wonderful card game “Someone You”. So, if you want to learn how to do, achieve and drive purpose driven design, about working at LEGO and why a Banana played an important role in Xhensilas journey into UX and purpose driven design, do not miss this episode as well as the bonus episode. One little side note: we had a few minor audio issues with Thorstens audio track in the beginning. We apologize for that. And no worries, it will be gone after a few minutes. What has hiking in common with World Usability Day and Sustainability? In this episode we were joined by Elizabeth Rosenzweig, the founder and director of the World Usability Day. We spoke about how World Usability Day started, why it has a strong relation with Sustainability from the very beginning and what its relation to World Earth Day is. And why hiking? When you go hiking in the wilderness there is one important rule: leave no trace. The question is, how do we design to leave no trace, to cause no more harm? We discussed how UX and design need to change and how some of our design paradigms need to change and how we can bring this topic to the UN. Further we spoke about why collaboration and cooperation is the topic for this years WUD and even more, why it is an important basis for sustainability. We also discussed mental health as part of sustainability, the rough times for the design communities nowadays in terms of layoffs and how we can navigate through. In the end we got down to the core: the problems of capitalism and narratives that are driven by business people only - but also what we could or should do to work towards more balance here. And we came up with an idea for a global joint workshop of World Usability Day Initiative and the SUX Network we might do in the beginning of 2024. Stay tuned. If you want to learn about how World Usability Day started and why it is strongly connected to Sustainability or how we could and should tackle the big challenges nowadays with and in design and why we need to get the UN involved, tune in to this episode of the SUX podcast. How do we design for a world that is no longer a world shaped by humans but non-human agents like corporations or the capital in general? Human centered design was created for the Anthropocene, and therefore falls short on the challenges of a post-anthropocene world. For this episode we met Akos Csertan from Budapest to discuss the challenges for design to solve the urgent problems of today as well as how design has to change to solve the problems of the future. We talk about Akos Design Principles for a Post-Anthropocene world and his idea of cyborg centric design. Because we are so stuck to our smartphone - does not make this us all cyborgs already? If you want to learn more about designing cyborg centric and hear why the children's book “Momo” from the 70s is the perfect metaphor for nowadays, tune in to this episode of the SUX podcast. We're kicking off Paul Verhoeven week on the Missing Pieces lap with RoboCop, which features all sorts of parallels to the Fastiverse. Before we dive in, though, we chat about Fast & Furious Crossroads, open the mailbag, make our way across the island in the LOST episode "... and Found," and convince Mia to give us Dom's cell phone number. (Whew!) Then, we hop in the 6000 SUX and we're forcing you to join us, because dead or alive, you're coming with [us]. We talk about the similarities between RoboCop and Letty, RoboCop and Brixton, and RoboCop and Bloodshot. Also, did Joey's serendipitous scheduling erase the ways he totally dropped the ball last lap? Listen and find out! (Movie conversation begins around 54:00.) Carl Tart sits down and embarrasses himself by singing the praises of Pretty Ricky’s debut album, Bluestars. Well “embarrassed” is the term he uses but we simply must give the man a break. This album came out when he was 16! After he came back to his high school looking trim following a weird 6 months in Mississippi! When there were now parties to go to and girls were starting to look at him, you know, differently! Yep. “Grind on Me” time. And AIM time too! What a time to be alive! They talk about school parties, horny songs, Carl’s mom driving him from Altadena to Culver City (yikes) every morning to fail to arrive on time for Jazz Band. Sux if you’re on Sax! Can’t sneak in late when you’re in the front. Also, Joel’s a cop. (SFX: AIM DOOR CLOSING) These particular songs are Imogen Heap’s “Hide and Seek” and O-Town’s “Every Six Seconds.” Subscribe, Listen, Enjoy, Rate and Review!
Shane and O'Connies went to the Gettysburg battlefield to pay their respex to all those who gave their lives, not the guys who gave their lives to keep slavery going. That was a pretty gnarly miscalculation on their part. Sux for them. Then we interviewed Shane's Dad, which was tight as H-E-DOuble-L.
The Knicks disappoint us again, missing out on every top free-agent available (aside from Kawhi (unrealistic) ), while the Yanks stomp on the Sux for a pair of games in London. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/bd4robcarbone/support

On This Show (6000) SUX we comment on S1 E11 of Robocop The TV Series - The Human Factor RoboCop: The Series is a 1994 Canadian television series based on the RoboCop film series. It stars Richard Eden as the title character. Made to appeal primarily to children and young teenagers, it lacks the graphic violence that was the hallmark of RoboCop (1987) and its sequel RoboCop 2 (1990). The series takes place between the original film and RoboCop 2. The RoboCop character has several non-lethal alternatives to killing criminals, which ensures that certain villains can be recurring. The OCP Chairman and his corporation are treated as simply naïve and ignorant, in contrast to their malicious and immoral behavior from the second film onward. While RoboCop was initially an American property, Orion Pictures received a $500,000 cash infusion for TV licensing rights to Canada's Skyvision Entertainment. This allowed access to co-production treaties and possible partnerships with other countries. The series was filmed in Toronto and Mississauga, Ontario and originally planned for a January 1994 debut, several months after the unsuccessful release of RoboCop 3. Skyvision was also in negotiation with Peter Weller, the original RoboCop, but this did not come to fruition. Twenty-two episodes were made, but the series was not renewed for a second season. Expense played a significant part in this; according to Skyvision VP Kevin Gillis, episodes would be produced at $1.2 million to $1.5 million each Genre Action/Adventure Cyberpunk Mystery Created by Michael Miner & Edward Neumeier Starring Richard Eden, Yvette Nipar Ending theme"Future to This Life" by Joe Walsh and Lita Ford
