In addition to her clinical work, Bethany is dedicated to teaching and mentoring others in addiction recovery and personal growth. She has conducted workshops and has contributed to the Sweet Sobriety platform, where she offers guidance on how personality insights can play a pivotal role in long-term recovery. Bethany's empathetic, growth-oriented approach empowers her clients to break free from harmful patterns and embrace a more fulfilling, balanced life. In this episode, we dive deep into the fascinating world of the Enneagram and its role in personal growth and recovery from food addiction. Bethany Mazereeuw, MSW provides an insightful introduction to the Enneagram, explaining how this system of nine personality types helps individuals understand the "why" behind their behaviors. We explore how the Enneagram offers a unique pathway for self-awareness and healing, making it a valuable tool in recovery. Key Takeaways: What is the Enneagram?: An arrangement of nine different personality types represented in a circular diagram. Each type reflects a different way of seeing the world and is shaped by experiences and upbringing. Triads of Intelligence: The Enneagram divides the nine types into three centers of intelligence—Heart (Feeling), Head (Thinking), and Body (Doing)—that shape how individuals process information and respond to the world around them. Difference from Other Personality Tests: Unlike assessments like Myers-Briggs, the Enneagram digs into the underlying motivations driving behavior and provides a roadmap for personal growth and self-awareness. Application in Recovery: Understanding your Enneagram type can provide insight into the deeper motivations behind addictive behaviors and offer specific growth paths to break free from ingrained patterns. Highlights: The Enneagram doesn't just stop at identifying personality; it helps us understand the work needed to transcend our automatic behaviors and move toward greater emotional and spiritual health. Discussion on how Enneagram types align with different centers of intelligence—Feeling (Heart), Thinking (Mind), and Doing (Body)—and how these centers relate to how we interact with the world and approach recovery. Insights into how each Enneagram type responds to recovery strategies, like diet programs or emotional triggers, and how tailoring approaches can improve recovery outcomes. Practical Tips: Learn your Enneagram type by reflecting on your core motivations rather than just outward behaviors. Once you know your type, use it to become more aware of how you interact with the world and manage your recovery. Engage in "non-judgmental self-observation" to notice when you're acting from ego patterns and consciously choose healthier behaviors. Join Us: Check out our Sweet Sobriety Enneagram Workshops, Part 1 and Part 2, to explore how understanding your Enneagram type can accelerate your recovery journey. OK, the title of this Podcast is "To Succeed... Just Let Go". In this episode, we talk about "getting out of your own way" or slipping (effortlessly of course) your thinking mind into neutral. That's all you need to do to start living your life joyfully, happily, successfully, effortlessly. You don't have to learn anything new, you don't have to try to create anything or remake anything, you don't have to try to figure out why you are how you (only think) you are. You just have to slip that thinking mind into neutral. When that happens, everything flows. For starters, you're going to have a better understanding of the kind of happiness and success that is for you, what will turn you on. And, when you begin to more clearly understand that, you can set your mind to the experience of how you will actually feel, including actually physically feel, when you arrive a your desired outcome. After that, you simply have to turn up. That's all. We turn up - or we are present - when our thinking mind is idling in neutral. We are present when our doing mind is tuned in free from the constraint of our own thought.Armed with that kind of presence, you are ready to effortlessly, for starters, trip your way lightly through today. As we say towards the end of this week's episode, today is, for today, the only day that matters... tomorrow will look after itself.

Most people spend their entire life thinking about what they could or should have done. They either ruminate on the dead past or lose themselves in an imaginary future. Both are diversions from the greatest treasure - the present moment or now. They accumulate this never-ending trash of the thinking mind, which becomes their greatest source of misery. Simply witnessing the mechanism of the thinking mind exposes it and brings attention to the present moment.

The book took off, selling tens of thousands of copies. As he branched out into deeper issues of masculinity, self-worth, and the changing cultural landscape, the site grew. By 2013, he had begun writing about larger cultural issues — gender relations, happiness, ambition, life purpose, and cultural perspectives he had gathered while living in various countries around the world. Despite the fact that the business was still directed at men, thousands of women began reading and asking for advice as well. That same year, he made the leap to his own site and domain, broadening the demographics of his audience. The site exploded, garnering millions of views each month. A blessing a wish from my heart to yours! Invitation: Take a moment, look at the picture, connect to the energy of it as you listen to the blessing episode. Let the words them wash over and through you...may something resonate, soothe or remind...so much love always! Blessing backstory: A while ago I decided to find uplifting images, ones that made me smile and lifted my spirit. And to send them together with a blessing, a personal wish, to my immediate family. Over time it's become a ‘daily-ish' morning practice via WhatsApp to a slowly growing recipient list. Recently I've started to share these blessings and images on social media too, with a prayer that they brighten the world of those who receive them. And most recently I've started recording an audio version (started on 25Jan22). Ever wonder... think... dream... ponder... etc? Of course you do. We all think. We all ponder. It is part of our human design to have a mind that gets us from place to place, year to year. We need our mind to move us through life, but do we really need to BELIEVE every thought we think? I don't think so. In this episode, I explain my reasoning for questioning the mind and making a choice on what to believe about yourself, about others, and about the world. What thoughts hold you back? What thoughts move you forward? Have you ever stopped to notice the thoughts that make you who you are today? Listen in and start a daily practice to notice the mind. It’s easy to go into meditation with the intention of improving your situation, or changing something about our reality. However, one of the greatest benefits of meditation is how deeply it allows us give up the resistance and surrender to our current circumstances. This often creates the space within that’s needed to integrate the challenges...

Mei Elliott explores many questions related to concentration practice. Is it possible to cultivate concentration without gaining mind? Do both shamata and shikantaza develop concentration? What does focusing on the breath have to do with freedom from suffering? To answer these questions we will be exploring Zen teachings as well as material from the early Buddhist canon, including information about the jhanic factors.A follow-up class to Meditation and the Thinking Mind.
Mei Elliott explores how to work skillfully with thinking in meditation. For many practitioners, it can be easy to relate to thoughts as "the problem" in our meditation, and yet, the thinking mind is imperative for communication, work, survival, and for understanding the very teachings that allow us to practice. Given this, it can be difficult to know how to relate to thoughts, and what to do when they arise in meditation: do we drop them, ignore, reject, chase, or allow them? During this YUZ session we will explore how to skillfully relate to thoughts through traditional meditation instruction from the Zen and early Buddhist traditions. Learning how to see our thoughts clearly, frees us from compulsive reactivity, providing us with insight into the nature of not-self and greater freedom in daily life.Mei will be focusing on this curriculum for a two part series. Both classes on this theme will gravitate around practical meditation training, and will provide opportunities for you to ask questions about your practice. The date for part two in this series will be announced shortly, and will likely occur in the coming month.

How To Overcome A Noisy Over Thinking Mind by Matt Lauzon

This exercise on getting to past limiting beliefs or fears really dives into the Inner Critic(s) that we all have. Bring what your subconscious generates into waking life with the tools you learn here. You can practice bringing about your desire, vision, yearning into your reality, and ask the limiting belief/Inner Critic to quiet down. If you liked this, you can follow this podcast (or subscribe on iTunes). To learn more about me, Rachel Horton White, please visit www.soulfulworkconsulting.com
Join me for this meditation on noticing the present, not thinking about the past or worrying about the future.. just being aware of what we are experiencing in the present. It is through this quieting of the mind that we can develop the tools we need to listen to our intuitive voice in waking life, rather than the ego/Inner Critic voice that often holds us back from our true purpose! If you liked this, you can follow this podcast (or subscribe on iTunes). To learn more about me, Rachel Horton White, please visit www.soulfulworkconsulting.com
I hope you enjoy this "quieting the mind" exercise, the first in a series I will be adding to this podcast. This meditation focuses on body relaxation, opening, and a short visualization of creating your future self. This vision that you create of what you are doing, who you are talking to, and most importantly, how you feel, can be carried into your waking life. Consider the possibility that you have now brought this future self closer to you, and that it is a blueprint of a possible future that lies ahead. Live in the blissful feeling of being aligned with your life's purpose and hold onto that feeling, that vision, that self, as much as you can. And thank you for listening.
Join me for an interview with Frank Sanfilippo, a friend, fellow spiritual seeker, and one of the most peaceful, kind, gentle souls I have ever me, who who embodies the concept of a bodhisattva (he would probably not want me to say that). A kindred soul who is giving back to the world through supporting others in therapeutic and quiet ways. Frank Sanfilippo has been involved in the Shambhala Lineage of meditation since the early 1990's. He is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who integrates the teachings of Shambhala with his therapy practice. He enjoys playing the drums and loves playing music with friends. Sharing and connecting to others so that they see themselves as an important part of this world is what he values most. He believes that any social system that creates winners and losers is what makes us feel disconnected from each other, and is simply a bump on the road of our evolutionary process. If you liked this, you can follow this podcast (or subscribe on iTunes). To learn more about me, Rachel Horton White, please visit www.soulfulworkconsulting.com
There are two aspects of the mind: the thinking self and the observing self. Place a small pillow or your cellphone on your belly and place your observing mind on the movement of the belly as you just simply breathe. The breath is the anchor for your attention as you shift from Thinking Mind to Observing Mind.

Can we believe what we see and hear in this society? Do we know the hidden history of the African Holocaust? What lies are we being told today? What are agent provocateurs? Our minds....oh our minds! My husband loves to keep newspaper and magazine clippings…it was so bad at one time that we had a room with boxes full…thank God for USB's. But it is important in understanding the past to understand the future…we need to follow the bread crumbs. We are being fed suggestions on the back of shock and trauma. Assassinations, threats of war, earthquakes, tsunami, floods, terrorism and constant police murders are all shocks and Trauma are followed by the Power of Suggestion to get us to believe contrived lies. From every avenue we are being spoon feed a crock of lies. Our mind is being told to look and not see, hear and not understand, processing oatmeal then regurgitating misinformation. From what's going on in Africa, to the Middle East to right here at home. Wars, rumours of wars, skrimishes, planes being bombed. What do we make of all this commotion? How does it effect our daily lives? What do we unsderstand about the past, present and future and how the game is being played over and over again, but because we, being new to the neighborhood, do not remember the lessons of the past. Many of us believe that what is done by our nations is not our responsiblity, but it is all done in our name, with our taxes. Can we sit by while the world burns and say, "My four and no more? " We will talk about this and much more on I was just thinking... "Throughout history, it has been the inaction of those who could have acted, the indifference of those who should have known better, the silence of the voice of justice when it mattered the most, that has made it possible for evil to triumph.
