When we invest our hard-earned money, we naturally seek a financial return—but could there be other rewards as well?Faith-based investing offers more than just financial gains. Today, Finny Kuruvilla joins us to explore the deeper impact of aligning our investments with our values.Dr. Finny Kuruvilla serves as a Co-Chief Investment Officer, Senior Portfolio Manager, and founding member of Eventide Asset Management, an underwriter of Faith & Finance. He holds an M.D. from Harvard Medical School, a Ph.D. in Chemistry and Chemical Biology from Harvard University, a master's degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT, and a bachelor's degree from Caltech in Chemistry.Common Objections to Faith-Based InvestingIndeed, Christians might have different views on some of these, but here are three of the most common that Finny hears consistently:Objection 1: “I'm not responsible for the actions of the companies I invest in.”Many investors assume that purchasing stocks or mutual funds does not connect them to a company's actions. However, investing is ownership. When you purchase shares in a company—whether publicly traded or private—you become a partial owner. If you owned a small business and that business engaged in unethical practices, it would reflect on you. The same principle applies to publicly traded companies. As shareholders, we are tied to the actions and values of the companies we invest in.Objection 2: “What difference can I make? These companies are too big.”Some argue that individual investors cannot influence large corporations. However, history shows that even a small percentage of engaged investors can shape corporate values—just like voting in an election, where small margins can determine the outcome.Through shareholder engagement, faith-driven investors can influence corporate decision-making. Large companies respond to shareholder resolutions, and when values-aligned investors unite, they can steer businesses toward ethical practices.Objection 3: “Faith-based investing means I'll underperform financially.”A common concern is that limiting investment choices to faith-aligned companies will lead to lower returns. However, research suggests otherwise.Companies with strong ethical foundations—those that treat employees well, operate with integrity, and provide valuable goods and services—tend to outperform over the long term. Businesses that exploit customers or employees may see short-term gains but often struggle in the long run. Faith-based investing is not just morally sound—it's also financially strategic. The Three Benefits of Faith-Based Investing 1. Integrity: Investing with a Clear ConscienceThe foundation of faith-based investing is the principle of loving our neighbor. Jesus taught us to treat others as we want to be treated (Luke 6:31), and this applies to business and investing as well.Proverbs 1 warns against pursuing “ill-gotten gain,” or wealth that exploits others. Many mainstream funds include companies engaged in tobacco, gambling, and unethical labor practices.Investing with integrity means choosing companies that:Provide valuable goods and servicesTreat employees fairlyOperate with transparency and ethical leadershipBusiness should be about supplying goods and services—not exploiting people. Faith-based investing ensures that we support businesses that contribute to human flourishing.2. Impact: The Power of Faith-Driven InvestorsOne of the most compelling reasons for faith-based investing is the ability to make a real impact. History provides powerful examples of how Christian investors have shaped industries and social policies.A notable case is the role of Christian investors in ending apartheid in South Africa. In the 1970s, a group of faith-driven investors partnered with Reverend Leon Sullivan to pressure corporations like Ford and General Motors to implement anti-apartheid policies within their workplaces. These shareholder resolutions sparked a domino effect, leading other companies to follow suit. This example demonstrates that investors—when united and strategic—can drive significant cultural and ethical change. Today, faith-driven investors have opportunities to:Encourage companies to uphold biblical values in business operationsAvoid investing in industries that profit from addiction, exploitation, or human sufferingPromote corporate social responsibility by engaging in shareholder activism3. Performance: Ethical Investing Can Lead to Strong ReturnsMany assume that avoiding certain industries—such as gambling, pornography, or companies that oppose Christian values—means sacrificing returns. However, data suggests that companies with strong ethical principles actually perform better over time. Most investors define total return as:Share price return + dividend returnHowever, a biblical perspective expands total return to include:Financial return + integrity + impactInvesting in companies that operate with integrity and long-term vision leads to sustainable growth and reduced risk. Ethical companies that treat employees well, focus on quality products, and manage resources wisely often outperform businesses prioritizing short-term profits over long-term stability. How to Get Started with Faith-Based InvestingFor many believers, the idea of faith-aligned investing is a brand-new concept. They strive to honor God in spending, giving, and career choices, but they haven't considered how their investments align with their faith. Here's how to begin:Use screening tools—Many financial platforms provide tools to evaluate how investments align with Christian values. Work with faith-driven investment professionals—Christian financial advisors and fund managers can guide you toward biblically responsible portfolios. You can find a Certified Kingdom Advisor (CKA) when you go to FaithFi.com and click "Find a Professional." Explore faith-based funds—Several firms specialize in faith-aligned investments. Eventide is one of many great options available. To find a complete list of faith-based investment funds and companies, visit faithandinvesting.com/faithfi. Pray for wisdom—Ask God to guide your financial decisions, ensuring that your investments honor Him and advance His kingdom.Faith-based investing is more than a financial strategy—it's a movement. As more believers align their financial decisions with their faith, they contribute to a marketplace that reflects God's heart for justice, integrity, and human flourishing. When investors choose integrity, prioritize impact, and trust that God honors ethical investing, they participate in kingdom work that extends beyond their own lifetime. If you're ready to take the next step, learn more at EventideFunds.com. Faith-based investing isn't just about returns—it's about stewardship that glorifies God and blesses others. On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:My wife and I inherited a house from a family member, and it's out of state. Have you tried group essays? We're unpacking the what and how of group essays and why you should give them a try.First up, group essays save us time. Fewer essays to grade means more time for you to enjoy that extra cup of coffee. But the benefits go beyond that. When students work together, they learn to peer edit and provide feedback. It's about creating a cohesive piece that sounds like one voice, pushing students to think critically and collaborate effectively. Plus, with the right upfront teaching and modeling, peer feedback can significantly improve the quality of their final submissions, reducing your workload even more. Finally, group essays foster collaborative learning and essential skill-building. As students combine their strengths and support each other's weaknesses, they develop vital interpersonal skills. This is not just about saving time on grading; it's about preparing students for real-world teamwork. Then sit back and watch as they grow into confident writers and collaborators. On this episode, we will discuss three key benefits of slowing down and how rest begets success. When we consider a slower pace of living many look at what isn't being done versus the rewards they are gaining. Living in a hurry comes with tension, overlooking details, and puts a tax on fulfillment. Let's dig into defining success and three returns on investing in a more natural way of living. Episode LifeWork: Set aside at least 5 minutes to reflect on the following: 1. Using this episode's definition, what does success look like in your daily life? 2. How has other definitions of success defined your personal progress? 3. How would your daily life be different if you had more clarity? 4. How has rushing impacted your creativity and inspiration? 5. What are some areas where insight is needed and how has rushing/not resting influenced your decision making? Be sure to journal your experience. How often do you worry that your payment information might get compromised when you use a credit or debit card? If you want to keep your personal information more secure when you're at the checkout, consider using the contactless payment features most debit and credit cards offer for a safer and more convenient payment experience. Links: Learn more about contactless debit cards Follow our Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages! Learn more about Triangle Credit Union Transcript: Welcome to Money Tip Tuesday from the Making Money Personal podcast. Contactless cards, also known as tap-to-pay, have become increasingly popular in the United States over the past 10 years but there are still people that may not be aware of what they are or how to use them. Simply put—contactless payment or tap-to-pay refers to a form of payment using a debit card, credit card, or a payment enabled mobile phone or smartwatch that processes without needing to insert a chip or swipe a card. This process uses radio frequency identification (RFID) technology in addition to near-field communication (NFC) for contactless payment transactions. Here are a few of the top benefits of using a contactless card for payment. The first benefit is that it's more secure. Contactless card payments are more secure than magnetic stripe card payments and just as secure as chip payments. Each card has a contactless chip that creates a one-time code that changes with each transaction you make. This one-time code accompanies your account number when you “tap” to pay. Your other payment information (name, billing address and card verification code) is not transmitted using this method. By using tap-to-pay, you are guarding your card from skimming devices that are used by hackers to gain access to your payment information. Quick, Easy Transactions Contactless payment options are up to 10x faster than using cash or swiping/inserting your card at checkout! With contactless cards, you no longer need to worry about punching in your PIN on the point-of-sale terminal. Quicker transactions reduce checkout times and shorter lines, which is a benefit to both the business and the consumer. Loyalty Rewards and Benefits Many businesses will have their loyalty accounts and reward systems set up to automatically sync with the tap-to-pay method that can be used with your contactless card or mobile wallet. At Triangle Credit Union, we offer cashback at local and national merchants with our Purchase Rewards when you use the contactless feature during payment. How To Use Using contactless cards or tap-to-pay with your mobile wallet is simple and easy: Look for the contactless symbol on the point-of-sale or card reader (this is the same symbol used on your Triangle Credit Union contactless enabled debit or credit card) Hold your card within 2 inches of the card reader when prompted One you receive confirmation the payment was accepted (typically a check mark, green light or audible confirmation), that's it! If your Triangle debit card doesn't have the contactless payment symbol in it, you'll need to upgrade it. Triangle Credit Union offers Debit on Demand so you can have your card enabled with contactless chip technology in your hands in as little as 10 minutes! Contact us today by phone or email to find out more on getting your new contactless debit card. If there are any other tips or topics, you'd like us to cover, let us know at tcupodcast@trianglecu.org. In these three verses of Holy Scripture, the Holy Spirit teaches us treasuring Christ frees us to care despite the pain that comes with it, treasuring Christ knits our hearts together in love for Christ, and treasuring Christ forms the foundation of all true wisdom or knowledge.

This sermon was preached during our March 21, 2021 Sunday Service. The Christian’s Goal The One Another commands are to the Christian as the language of music is to the musician; keeping the One Another commands binds the hearts of those who are “walking in the light” of God’s Word together! The command for Christians to love one another is by far the most used ‘One Another’ command, occurring a dozen time! The ultimate expression of love! V. 16a When Jesus died for sinners he was doing something for us we could not do for ourselves. That’s our standard as we love others! Laying down your life is not just dying for another but laying aside your time, your resources, and your rights to meet the needs of another! The Christian’s goal: love one another like Jesus loved us! V. 16b “Now the goal of our instruction is love from a pure heart, a good conscience, and a sincere faith.” -I Timothy 1:5 Here we see that to love as Jesus loved is to lay down our time and our resources and our rights, and serve others! Words alone won’t do: Prove you’ve got God’s love by actions! V. 17-18 But sometimes people have made big mistakes and simply can’t find the way out. And it’s here where love can make all the difference! If a Christian sees a need that his brother has and has the resources to meet it, but fails to do so, is that evidence he really has experienced the love of God? If a hidden camera were to follow you around for an entire day, would it capture love in action? Three Benefits of Loving One Another… 1. A Greater Sense of Assurance V. 19-20 2. A Greater Sense of Answered Prayer V. 21-22 When you start to truly love others, you spend more time with them. And over time you learn to speak less and listen to them at the heart level more. You are growing closer to God and to them, and so you pray more for them, more with them, and in a more God focused way for them! 3. A Greater Sense of the Abiding Presence V. 23-24 I love how these last two verses teach us that obeying God’s commands is as easy as practicing the Two John 3:16’s! JOY: Jesus, Others, You! Homework: Say thank you to somebody who has stood by you with the love of Jesus!
There are many benefits that we as Christians can truly enjoy, but not all Christians enjoy the fullness of God's benefits. We need to examine our lives to see if we are truly enjoying these benefits. We must walk in the Spirit to produce the fruit of the Spirit.

Since COVID19 has driven everyone to work from home (WFH), the importance of cloud computing has become more relevant. Right now about 8M people are working from home part of the time. To help with this transition, your company might enjoy the benefits of edge computing. I'm sure you have heard of cloud computing. Many software products that we use are now cloud-based. Think of Microsoft 365. It used to be you had to download software to your computer and that was how you accessed it. Updates were slow and then had to be sent via DVDs or however you bought the software, to begin with. Now that Microsoft Software as a Service is in the cloud, updates can be immediate. You can access the software from anywhere. Cloud storage works well in most cases, but there are performance improvements to be gained by using edge computing. Edge computing processes data closer to the source which means not all your data has to be processed in the cloud. Let's look at three benefits of edge computing. 1. Reduced Bandwidth StrainMichael Dell says that edge computing will be the next big thing. Reducing operational and bandwidth strain is why. Smart sensors and other connected devices within your facilities will generate terabytes of data per minute. Imagine if you send all of that data to the cloud to be analyzed. There will be enormous demands on bandwidth. Couple that with the activities of running the business and management systems, and it could get expensive to manage that data. Freeing up your cloud servers to perform business applications will benefit your WFM employees. 2. A Reduction in LatencyIn a cloud-based solution, data is sent to the large data servers, processed, and then sent back to the edge near the user. This transmission causes latency or delays in getting the information for remote workers. This might not seem like a big deal, but imagine if you are pulling and picking orders in a fulfillment warehouse facing increased demand because everyone is ordering product on-line. You are using AR glasses to show you what to pick. If the data has to transmit from the cloud to your glasses that latency could slow down your picking efficiency. It would be better to receive that information from a closer source, an edge computing resource. 3. Increased SecurityAs an increased number of employees are working from home, that means more data is being accessed from non-secure locations. Increased access points give cybercriminals multiple points of entry into a business system. Using edge computing, the information can be analyzed locally with less information being sent to the main data servers. This means there is less transmission of sensitive and secure information between devices and the cloud. If there is less transmission of sensitive data, there is better security for your business! Cloud computing and edge computing is not an either/or scenario. I believe most companies will use a combination of both where it makes sense to do so. As Michael Dell says, edge computing will be the next big thing! I hope that you investigate the benefits of edge computing for your business. As always, it's an honor to serve you and I hope this helps you and your organization get a little bit better today. http://getpodcast.reviews/id/1499224100 (Rate and Review Here) More show notes are https://americanlean.com/blog/three-benefits-of-edge-computing/ (here) https://americanlean.com/contact/ (Schedule a free 1/2 call) with Tom Reed.https://www.amazon.com/dp/1645162818 (Buy) the Lean Game Plan Follow me on https://twitter.com/dailyleancoach (Twitter@dailyleancoach)Join me on https://my.captivate.fm/www.linkedin.com/in/tomreedamericanlean (Linked In)

This week we’re going to talk about the three reasons stillness can be GOOD for your business. Which may seem counterintuitive but hang with me! Remember your business is YOU! So you’ve got to take care of yourself first. Why do we fight stillness? Why do we feel that just being present is wasting time? We’ve got to explore the why. Why are you avoiding or resisting the stillness? Let’s do some journaling to evaluate how you’re feeling. Journal Questions-What happens when you’re still? Why am I fighting this? What is more important than this? After several conversations with my dear friend Rebekah Fowlkes (@social_made_simple on Instagram go check her out!), she recommended the book The Four Keys to Hearing God’s Voice. We’ve shared some awakenings we’ve had in our personal lives and our businesses. I really believe in this season God is calling us to lean into our full potential and rise up to our greater purpose. But that requires stillness to be able to listen. Three Benefits of Stillness for Your Business God wants to give you a creative idea. When we’re not in a routine mode, creativity is birthed. He has the best ideas and the best ideas for us. We have to be still to listen and ask for these things! He wants to tell us who to contact for your business. In my stream of business, network marketing, cold marketing sometimes turns people off. But I truly believe that He gives you the names of people that He wants us to reach out to and who needs our services or products. He wants to BLESS YOU and your business so you can bless others! Gifts and talents are to bless other people. And in your stillness, you can look for ways to bless people in new and different ways. We need to use this time to evaluate our daily lives. And how you can talk to God about your priorities and how you can make the most of this time. I’m so excited for all the ways He is going to work and bless your life! Take those still moments to walk and work with him! This song came to me as I was preparing for this episode and I want to share a few of the lyrics from Hillsong’s Still. “Find rest my soul In Christ alone Know His power In quietness and trust And I will be still, and know You are God” I’m SO glad you’re joining me on this journey of finding your self-worth. Couples can either approach marriage as a contract or a covenant. The contract approach says I'm married to you as long as my needs are met and I'm in love. The moment either of those aren't occurring divorce becomes a viable option.
