Send us a Text Message.Hosts Koji and Michelle delve into the intricate nature of genuine apologies and the actions that must accompany them to signify real growth and understanding. They share personal stories, such as Koji's challenging week with a broken-down car and a bat incident, and Michelle's temporary homelessness due to fumigation, to illustrate the complexity of apologies in everyday life. The discussion then shifts to the historical significance of the Civil Liberties Act of 1988, which provided reparations to Japanese Americans incarcerated during World War II. Special guest Keiko Agena enriches the conversation by reading a part of the Act, emphasizing the importance of government acknowledgment and reparations. Skywalking Through Neverland: A Star Wars / Disney Fan Podcast
In this episode, we speak with Patrick Cotnoir, co-producer of the new documentary, "I'm George Lucas: A Connor Ratliff Story". This documents behind-the-scenes of the hilarious “The George Lucas Talk Show” which you can see live or on YouTube. Both the documentary and talk show pay tribute to George Lucas by answering this question: what would George Lucas be like as a talk show host? “The George Lucas Talk Show” has hosted guests such as Weird Al, Ahmed Best, and Whoopi Goldberg. What would these people say to George Lucas? Patrick Cotnoir, co-producer and talent booker, shares some great stories on both the documentary and talk show. He also helped create “The Naboo Movie: All-Star Live Reading of The Phantom Menace 25th Anniversary” and we just had to get some behind-the-scenes stories of that as well! It is always great speaking with someone who has just as much love and respect for George and the Star Wars Saga. "I'm George Lucas: A Connor Ratliff Story" is available now on VOD. About the Documentary: “I'm George Lucas: A Connor Ratliff Story” For five years, comedian Connor Ratliff has performed as retired filmmaker George Lucas in his monthly UCB NY cult comedy show, "The George Lucas Talk Show". Co-hosted by actor Griffin Newman and featuring A-list guests booked by producer Patrick Cotnoir, the show allows Connor to both exalt and poke fun at the vast world of Lucas, including Star Wars. However, Connor begins to question if the show should continue due to its ongoing stress with little financial and career gain. By following the live performances and behind the scenes for one year, the mysteries of Connor's inner self are explored in this portrait of an artist, and his own feelings on his history, value, and legacy are revealed. LOL-eros! This is a very special episode of Latinos Out Loud, recorded at WBCR, the CUNY Brooklyn College radio station, and it was produced by some of the students of @RachelLaLoca's Advanced Radio and Podcasting class! Shout out to them (they just got closer to getting an A in the class LOL)! On this episode, Rachel connected virtually with Co-creator, Writer, Co-Executive Producer and Co-star of the hit NBC comedy series “Lopez vs. Lopez, Mayan Lopez! The two Latinas chatted about their improv and sketch comedy training, Mayan being an alum of Second City Chicago and Rachel being an alum of UCB NY, and the representation (or lack thereof :/) of Latinas in that field of comedy training, as well as how that training is utilized in Mayan's performances on set. She also shared what it's like to work with her father, the iconic, George Lopez on this, the second season of the HILARIOUS TV show. Rachel was lucky enough to see a live taping of the show while out in LA a few weeks back, and recounts the incredible wit and flawlessness in watching the Lopez Vs. Lopez action LIVE. Mayan is killing it right now, having just served as a guest judge on Rupaul's Drag Race! ABOUT LOPEZ VS LOPEZ Once-estranged father and daughter George and Mayan navigate dysfunction, reconnection, and all the headaches and joy in between as they make up for lost time like only they can. With George back in the picture, he can always be counted on to provide Mayan with some unconventional parenting advice about her son Chance — while saving a few lighthearted barbs for her boyfriend, Quinten, for good measure. Then there's George's ex-wife, Rosie, who hasn't quite forgiven him. In the end, the Lopez clan gets by with a little drama, a lot of love, and a lifetime of laughter. The cast includes George Lopez, Mayan Lopez, Selenis Leyva (former guest of LOL! [ep. 393, link below] ), Matt Shively, Brice Gonzalez and Al Madrigal (former guest of LOL [ep. #270, link below]. ep 393 Selenis Leyva OUT LOUD https://pod.link/1330248548/episode/10adb102232f3b61dd48fd8b486b4326 ep 270 Al Madrigal Talks About Morbius https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/latinos-out-loud/id1330248548?i=1000556217019 Follow Mayan @mayanlopez Follow Rachel @RachelLaLoca Learn more about your ad choices. Comedian, actor, writer, producer and proud New Jerseyite, Chris Gethard is known for his self-examining vulnerability in comedy, and he brings that same unflinching truth to his talk with Brian about his long standing widow's peak and his "weird body... even by New Jersey standards." The pair discuss career victories and failures and how hard it is to be objective about accomplishments when your survival is tied to your creative life. Chris shares about how feeling he had to keep up with folks he felt were far funnier than he, which led to him finding his voice. There is some inevitable UCB NY reminisce between the pair who were on 3 different improv groups together. And Brian gives a heartfelt apology for a relentless gaslighting bit against Chris, that while cruel and potentially soul crushing, was actually pretty funny. __ Show Information Twitter: @baldtalkpodcast Instagram: @baldtalkpod Email: baldtalkpod@gmail.com Brian Huskey Twitter: @thebrianhuskey Instagram: @thebrianhuskey Charlie Sanders Instagram: @charliesanders

In this week's Yes But Why Podcast episode, I talk to Morgan Phillips, performer of improv and music since 1994. Morgan Phillips is an improviser and improv coach based in New York City. He is the creator and temporary Artistic Director of Not A Bit Comedy Theater. Morgan has been studying and performing improv on a regular basis for almost 30 years. He loves performing improv. In 2015, Morgan did online improv scenes with over 1000 improvisers. Morgan loves teaching improv. He taught at UCB NY from 2016 until March of 2020. In our conversation, Morgan talks to me about temp jobs, acapella, and the New York City improv scene. Morgan loves to sing as evidenced by the multiple years singing in a professional acapella group. When he got into improv, he started with short form at Chicago City Limits. He says he liked their theater space and their focus on musical improv was a BIG plus as well. Morgan talks to me about his experience with UCB NY. From taking classes to auditioning way too many times just to get onstage and then finally to be teaching in the conservatory, Morgan spent a lot of years at the NYC theater of Upright Citizens Brigade. We talked about it ending and how hard that can be when your community crumbles. I commiserated obviously. And then he told me what it was like to go viral on TikTok in your mid forties. It sounds like fun, y'all. We talk about some serious stuff here and there, but I swear we're both hysterically funny, me especially, I mean Morgan, my guest. My guest Morgan was very funny. Actor/TV Host Rob Riggle (SNL, The Daily Show, Holey Moley) had his head shaved as a US Marine, but he still identifies as haired. In an episode barely based in reality, Brian and Charlie reveal to Rob he has been slipped an ointment that will cause baldness, that his business manager is now Del "Magic Fingers" Dupree, and that Bald Talk's biggest audience are those 'tweens who love "chippin." All three remember the days at UCB NY, back when Brian had a wine vault and paid rent on an apartment so he could have a bathroom near the theater. And Rob says something about acting. From Bartender to the Upright Citizens Brigade, from Law & Order to Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, and from NYC bachelor pads to LA writers rooms - he shares an incredible journey of years & years & years of work that eventually made him an overnight hit. As a film school grad, Brennan also drops a ton of knowledge about the movie world. We chat about storytelling & Star Wars, the movie industry in the age of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Oscars and the recent selections of the Academy, and he dishes out some hot takes on Braveheart. We of course, beg him to host the Oscars and for more crazy stories from his improv days, early film scripts, how he moved to LA, and brought his enduring love of D&D from his childhood into the studios of Los Angeles with his new show on College Humor. He gives us everything we want & more. Our Oscar Race coverage continues on Monday with another episode of MMO Weekly as we’ll be recapping & reacting to the Screen Actors Guild Awards. Jill Donnelly (Veep, New Girl) and Greg Tuculescu (Bridesmaids, I Love You, Man) are UCBNY transplants and teammates with Josh on the UCBLA team Assembly. Jill tells a story about being the rebellious teen in a community theater program and Greg tells the confusing tale of the time he was sideswiped by an elderly driver. These true stories inspire improvised scenes about nasty New Yorkers, a vanishing restaurant, grown ups having slumber parties and more! Actor/comedian Jason Mantzoukas comes on our show to talk about IMPROV. Are we breaking the rules of our show not discussing a person's career? We are, and we don't care. Because we love talking about improv. We go deep. What's good about it? How do the various shows that Jason regularly plays in work? What's the best opening? How did The Sleepover (an improv show from UCB-NY in the early 2000s) work? What was Amy P. like as a teacher? ALL THIS AND MORE. We loved this talk so much we let it go way long. AN HOUR AND FORTY MINUTES, geez louise. But you improv nerds are gonna love it. Everyone else: see you next episode! Plus Will talks about the Magic Eraser and Anthony talks about seeing a punter who tried to be a hero and failed immediately.
On today's show I talk to Emmy-nominated TV writer Anthony King. In 2011, Anthony moved to LA and since then has written for a number of shows including NBC's BFF and USA's Playing House. Matt Dennie and Josh Sharp, janus headed comedy duo darlings of the UCBNY, hop on the Ten Ideas stationary motorcycle this week to rap about pregnancy-terminating accordions, cat kicks, speech karaoke, merlove, and hot gossip ticker tape machines for modern busy-body oil barons. This episode would be PERFECT for an elephant.
On today's episode, I talk to comedians Casey Wilson and June Diane Raphael. As writers and actors, June and Casey have been involved in some of best comedies of the last few years. Casey was a cast member of SNL and one of the stars of ABC's fantastic Happy Endings, and June stared in Burning Love and currently Adult Swim's NTSF:SD:SUV::.
