The term ‘nationalism' sounds so benign, almost as if it refers to something that is good for a nation. But it is a deeply toxic concept that tears societies apart.Welcome to Episode 122 of Everything is Everything, a weekly podcast hosted by Amit Varma and Ajay Shah.In this episode, Amit argues that nationalism is always bad for the nation, and we should think deeply before we are seduced by its charms.TABLE OF CONTENTS: 00:00 Packaging00:13 Intro: One of the biggest questions of our times04:32 Chapter 1: What is Nationalism?16:11 Chapter 2: How Nationalism Spread31:25 Chapter 3: The Good and the Bad of Nationalism46:06 Chapter 4: Nationalism Gone Wrong54:41 Chapter 5: India's Journey With Nationalism1:07:44 Chapter 6: Tagore on Nationalism1:09:59 Chapter 7: How Nationalism Invades Our Everyday Lives1:22:42 Chapter 8: Closing ThoughtsFor full show notes, please click here!
The Washington Commanders (3-5) get Jayden Daniels back officially and take on the Seattle Seahawks (5-2), fresh off a bye, on Sunday Night Football. Both teams will be wearing their throwback uniforms. We touch on the All-22 Review vs Kansas City to begin the episode. What went well? What could've been better? KDot highlights the younger guys playing on defense, specifically Jordan Magee and Tyler Owens. We begin, as we always do, with the injury report for the game. The Commanders injury report sees Terry McLaurin out once again, but the rest of the team looks good to go, with Laremy Tunsil and Johnny Newton appearing good to go, and Deebo Samuel not even being listed on the injury report. On the other side, Seattle are largely healthy, with only Julian Love likely to miss the game. The Commanders offense, featuring Jayden Daniels once again, take on a tremendously disciplined and fast Seahawks defense that has been difficult for opponents to break down this season. They are #1 against the run, but running backs do get targets out of the backfield against this team. Amit suggests Deebo Samuel play as a wingback and be used as an RB now and then to exploit this opportunity. Names to look out for with the Seahawks defense include Ernest Jones, Uchenna Nwosu, Devon Witherspoon, Leonard Williams and Byron Murphy. The Commanders defense goes against Sam Darnold and this explosive passing attack that the Seahawks possess. WR Jaxson Smith-Njigba leads the NFL in receiving yards and is an explosive player each time he touches the ball. The Seahawks commit to running the ball to sustain drives and slow the game down. The Commanders are home underdogs by 3 points and the over-under is 48.5 points. Erről Hornyák Józsefet, a Portfolio makrogazdasági elemzőjét kérdeztük. The global landscape of education and work is changing at a pace that requires an entirely new approach to measurement. Trending in Education host Mike Palmer welcomes Amit Sevak, CEO of ETS (Educational Testing Service), the organization responsible for millions of assessments worldwide, to discuss the high-stakes transformation of how we identify talent. We explore how the trillion-dollar education sector is struggling to measure outcomes and why reliable data is essential to driving progress. Amit details the foundational work ETS is doing across K-12, higher education, and the workforce to shift the focus from traditional testing to competency-based learning and work-ready skills. We dive deep into the urgency of establishing an AI literacy framework and how technology is powering a new era of "test-less" performance assessments. Why You Should Listen Now: The War for AI Talent: Amit explains why the lack of a common AI literacy framework is a strategic challenge for the U.S. and how other nations are already standardizing AI education for young children. The Crisis of Underemployment: We break down the alarming statistics showing high unemployment and underemployment for new college graduates, highlighting the massive societal and economic pressure to measure job-relevant skills. The Future of Measurement: We get an inside look at how ETS is using AI, data science, and neuroscience to create innovative, personalized assessments that track complex skills like collaboration and communication—moving beyond the multiple-choice bubble sheet. 3 Key Takeaways from Our Conversation: AI Literacy is a New Language: We must introduce the fundamentals of AI to pre-elementary and elementary students to hardwire it as a first language, similar to English or Spanish. Data is the "New Oil": ETS produces over 5 billion data points annually, representing an amazing opportunity to reimagine products and drive social value through technology. The Two-by-Two of Transformation: The future of assessment is moving to measure both emerging skills (like AI and durable skills) and using innovative measurement methods (like performance and AI-enabled assessments). Join us to understand how better measurement is the key to unlocking human potential globally. Like what you hear? Amit Singh, a postdoctoral researcher at the Centre for Social Studies (CES) at the University of Coimbra, discusses Hindutva, a political ideology encompassing the cultural justification of Hindu nationalism and the belief in establishing Hindu hegemony within India, as well as the dangers it poses to religious minorities today. Covering Narendra Modi's trajectory from Gujarat's Chief Minister from 2001 to 2014 to the Indian head of state, Singh explains how the RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) and other far-right Hindutva groups have created conflicts between Hindus and Muslims in order to destabilise communal balance, Singh describes how India's colonial past has been polarised by far-right Hindu nationalist groups who have aimed at Christian, Muslim and other Indian minority religious groups in order to create division within India on a social level, while Modi and other BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) cohorts have enacted draconian legislation which is aimed at maintaining the Hindutva majority status with the political and bureaucratic plateaus while conterminously creating conflicts throughout the country. Covering the recent history of the state of Jammu and Kashmir, the only Indian territory with a Muslim majority, Singh contends that the application of Article 370 of the Indian Constitution, which divides Kashmir into regions while artificially populating the area with Hindus, is all part of a greater plan by the BJP to further sow sectarian divides politically which nourish the growing social divide between religious minorities and Hindus, while completely abandoning the forty-second Amendment of the Indian Constitution (1976) whereby the Preamble to the Constitution asserts that India is a secular nation. In today's Cloud Wars Minute, I dive into how ServiceNow is redefining enterprise automation with its new AI Experience platform.Highlights00:15 — ServiceNow has for a long time been intriguing in the way that it does not necessarily map to or compete directly against lots of the other major Cloud Wars Top 10 companies. ServiceNow has gone a different sort of route, everything they're doing from AI and workflows. The company has taken another big step with a service they introduced recently called the AI Experience.00:56 — I had a chance earlier this week to speak with ServiceNow's President, Chief Product Officer and Chief Operating Officer, Amit Zavery. Now, one of the big things that Zavery said is: "Look, just as customers got sort of over the hump of saying, okay, I've got to integrate all my applications and my databases and my systems now along comes AI."01:28 — A concern among customers has been there's going to be lots of new pieces, and the customer is going to be stuck in the middle again. Amit said that a key point here is it [AI Experience] ties together these different data types, voice, images, data, text, and everything from the people, the data and the workflows that are happening around the company.02:28 — Amit further said: "What we want to try to do here is this automation, happening with AI end-to-end, across company." So, it's not just the processes, but how the company works up and down, across the organization, and with customers and with suppliers. He said: "We're trying to ensure that customers can use AI to cut technical debt, rather than add to it."03:13 — Another big point about this was, there's lots of productivity, lots of innovation here again. He said: "Trust has never been more important." He said that the AI Experience, in tandem with the AI Control Tower from ServiceNow, is going to give customers the ability to feel very comfortable that they understand they're on top of where these AI deployments are happening.04:28 — And he talks about how ServiceNow being very open in this platform. He said: "We're finding new ways to work with the other big tech companies to ensure that customers get what they want, and that we're not forcing customers to, again, get into that big game of integration. We want more innovation and less integration." Visit Cloud Wars for more.

In the ancient alleys of Varanasi stands an abandoned photo studio — “Sharma Color Lab.” When a photographer named Amit enters it, he finds a camera that supposedly takes pictures by itself after midnight. Curious, he stays to witness the mystery. But each time the camera clicks, a ghostly figure appears closer in the photograph — until Amit himself disappears, and only the spirit remains. The next morning, a new picture emerges… waiting for its next subject. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

A Parallaxis aktuális részében a Sztalker (1979) című filmről beszélgettünk. https://parallaxis.blog.hu/2025/10/22/parallaxis_ep132 https://youtu.be/VvlEoNCQf18 Patreon oldalunkon támogatóink számára a nyilvános premier előtt tesszük elérhetővé podcastjeink epizódjait, illetve a Parallaxis Podcast hosszabb, különleges változatát – akár már havi 1000 forintért! Amit Jain, CEO and founder of Luma AI, joins Charlie Fink, Ted Schilowitz, and Rony Abovitz to unpack the future of AI-native video and the transformation of Hollywood's creative economy. Once an Apple engineer, Jain launched Luma during the early NeRF boom and built what is now the industry's best-performing AI video generation system—Luma Ray 3, the world's first HDR model capable of 16-bit cinematic compositing. In this episode, Jain argues that AI video isn't just a tool—it is quickly becoming the new substrate of the internet, a reality where professional-grade video replaces web pages as the primary interface for information, learning, and entertainment. Before Luma, Jain led core Apple Vision teams, where he learned how AI perception systems interpret the world. That experience now powers Luma's radical thesis: every phone user will soon generate an hour of personalized video per day, making video “the new language of the internet.”The hosts challenge Jain on whether startups like Luma can compete with OpenAI's Sora and Google's Veo, and Jain answers with confidence: “Big companies marketing harder doesn't matter—the best models always win because creators demand control, quality, and speed.” Luma, he explains, is already embedded in four of the six major Hollywood studios and hundreds of professional production houses, providing real-time previsualization, set extension, and multi-character scene generation on consumer hardware.Guest Highlights: Amit Jain on AI-First CinemaHollywood adopters: Four of six major studios already using Luma Ray 3 for previsualization, compositing, and AI-assisted performance capture.Death of performance capture: Luma's video-to-video model translates acting from an iPhone recording directly into 3D characters—replacing mo-cap workflows with laptop AI pipelines.AI for directors, not automation: Jain insists AI empowers storytellers. Directors can now reshoot, re-time lighting, or replace actors at negligible cost—transforming iteration speed, not intent. The “professional-first” strategy: While OpenAI and Google chase consumers, Jain is targeting the $1.2 trillion professional video production market, where 90% of spending occurs.Hollywood's broken math: “Studios die because of $400-million movies,” he says. “Make 10 films for $40 million each and you'll have a creative renaissance.”News Segment HighlightsSnap's Lens Fest reveals next-gen Spectacles with binocular see-through XR displayAnduril's new IVAS “Eagle Eye” headset Apple announces Vision Pro Gen 2 .Samsung's Galaxy XR headset Flint AI raises new round from a16z and Sheryl SandbergThis Episode's SponsorsZappar's Mattercraft – AI-integrated 3D web design suite for building immersive XR content.Viture Luma XR Glasses – 52° FOV and 152-inch virtual screen experience for gaming and streaming.Subscribe for weekly insider perspectives from industry veterans who aren't afraid to challenge Big Tech. Milyen hadihelyzetben kerülhet sor a békecsúcsra? Mik azok a kulcspontok, ahol a legnehezebb lesz megegyezni? Vendégeink:Jarábik Balázs, politikai kockázatelemző, nemzetközi fejlesztési szakemberPap Szilárd, politikai elemző, a Partizán szerkesztőjeMagyari Péter, a Válasz Online újságírójaPap Szilárd Substack: https://koztes.substack.com/Válasz Online: https://www.valaszonline.hu/—A közösség lehetőség, a közösség felelősség.Támogasd a Partizánt!https://cause.lundadonate.org/partizan/adomany—Iratkozz fel!Értesülj elsőként eseményeinkről, akcióinkról, maradjunk kapcsolatban:https://csapat.partizanmedia.hu/forms/maradjunk-kapcsolatban—Legyél önkéntes!Csatlakozz a Partizán önkéntes csapatához:https://csapat.partizanmedia.hu/forms/csatlakozz-te-is-a-partizan-onkenteseihez—Iratkozz fel tematikus hírleveleinkre!—Heti Feledyhttps://csapat.partizanmedia.hu/forms/partizan-heti-feledy—Vétóhttps://csapat.partizanmedia.hu/forms/iratkozz-fel-a-veto-hirlevelere—https://facebook.com/partizanpolitika/https://www.facebook.com/groups/partizantarsalgo https://www.instagram.com/partizanpolitika/https://www.tiktok.com/@partizan_mediaPartizán RSS: https://rss.com/podcasts/partizan-podcast/Partizán saját gyártású podcastok: https://rss.com/podcasts/partizanpodcast/—További támogatási lehetőségekről bővebben: https://www.partizanmedia.hu/tamogatas
The Washington Commanders got destroyed by the Dallas Cowboys 44-22 in Dallas to fall to 3-4 on the season. We dive into the All-22 Review in this episode.Jayden Daniels and the offense had a tough day, only generating 22 points in a game where we knew we needed 30+ points. To make matters worse, Jayden injured his hamstring in this game. What went well? What could've gone better? On the defensive side of the ball, there wasn't much to like outside of DT Daron Payne's performance. The defense gave up 37 points to the Cowboys, and Dak Prescott was able to do whatever he wanted against the Commanders secondary. Marshon Lattimore and Joe Whitt share a spotlight on this side of the review. The Side Piece Report was solid for Amit this week, with the New England Patriots scoring a road win over the Tennessee Titans, but the Falcons drop their road primetime game to the San Francisco 49ers. KDot continues to hate his Las Vegas Raiders, who got shut out 31-0 against the Kansas City Chiefs, while he's one game closer to JJ McCarthy being back for his Minnesota Vikings after Carson Wentz stunk against the Philadelphia Eagles. The Comment Mailbag features 20 comments. Ugyanakkor voltak eredmények is. Austin and Amit recap a jam-packed October window, with World Cup tickets handed out and drama across continents. First, they tackle the last matchdays in Africa, including Nigeria's stellar performance, Cape Verde's historic achievement and plenty of Second Place drama. Then, the guys recap Asia's Fourth Round as hosts Saudi Arabia and Qatar secured their spot in the World Cup. Next comes a trip around the consistently crazy CONCACAF, with up and down showings from big favorites like Panama and Costa Rica and upstarts like Suriname and Curacao. Finally, they take a trip to the European lightning round, headlined by Sweden's failures.
At 3:22 a.m. ET on October 7, 2023, Bari texted her producer: “Candace, there's war in Israel.” At that moment, Hamas men still roamed southern Israel, and the details were far from clear. What we knew was that Israel had been attacked and that videos were beginning to make their way from Telegram to X: scenes of dozens of Palestinian terrorists breaking through the security fence and rushing into Israeli territory; clips of Hamas militants, with AK-47s slung over their chests, driving white pickup trucks through the streets of southern Israel; blurry videos of Israelis running for their lives in roundabouts and fields. We had no idea what was about to unfold. We did not know yet that 251 Israelis would be kidnapped that day, including more than 30 children. We did not know yet that what was unfolding was the worst mass murder of Jews since the Holocaust—only this time streaming live on social media. We immediately started bringing you firsthand accounts here on Honestly. You might remember a pregnant woman named Shaked told us about 11 family members who were taken hostage, including her niece, 3, and nephew, 8. Or how two survivors of the Nova Music Festival, Amit and Chen, watched the murder of their friends. We talked to a mother whose daughter was killed at the music festival. And a grandmother who hid in her safe room for hours with her 10-day-old grandson as terrorists shot at the door. And we spoke to a father named Jon Polin, whose son, Hersh, was kidnapped. Little did we know that the entire world would soon know his name. Anyone who bore witness to the evil of that day, and to the horrific tragedy of the war that has followed, prayed that the hostages—the living and the dead—would finally be brought home. For Israelis, that rallying cry—Bring them home—was at the center of their psyche, their longing, their hope for the last two years. And then yesterday, 738 days later, the remaining 20 living hostages came home as part of President Donald Trump's 20-point plan. Yesterday, we spent moments throughout the day glued to our phones, tears streaming down our cheeks, watching the videos of these freed men running into the embrace of their mothers and fathers and sisters and brothers—and in some cases even to their little children—after more than two unimaginable years in Hamas captivity. As Matti Friedman wrote in The FP: “An unfamiliar mood spread like a shift in the weather: relief and optimism. . . . The Israelis who rallied over the past two years under the banner ‘Bring Them Home,' and whose energies kept the hostages and their families in headlines in Israel and abroad through two dark and often hopeless years, allowed themselves to smile and cheer.” We are under no illusions about what comes next. Yesterday began only phase 1 of Trump's peace plan (Hamas still holds many of the deceased hostages, which is a breach of the agreement). And serious—perhaps intractable—challenges lay ahead. There are many, many outstanding questions. As Free Press Middle East analyst Haviv Rettig Gur said, “Everything that matters for Gaza's future is in phase 2 and beyond.” To try to begin answering many of those questions—and to reflect on this historic moment and what it means for Israel and the world—Free Press producer Rafaela Siewert hosted a livestream yesterday that we want to play here for you today. She was joined by former Israeli ambassador to the United States Michael Oren; The Free Press's Matti Friedman and Haviv Rettig Gur; and Nimrod Palmach, who ran into battle on October 7, 2023 of his own accord. And Siewert also speaks to Rachel and Jon Goldberg-Polin—the parents of Hersh Goldberg-Polin, who was kidnapped on October 7 and murdered in Gaza after over 300 days in Hamas captivity. Still, Rachel and Jon woke up every single day for the last two years and fought—in public and around the world—for the return of every last one of the remaining souls to come home. The Washington Commanders beat the Los Angeles Chargers on the road 27-10 this past Sunday to move to 3-2 on the season. We dive into the All-22 Review in this episode.Jayden Daniels was back at QB for the Commanders and you could feel the energy from the opening snap. While he was rusty to begin the game on the first couple drives, he took over, finishing 15/26 for 231 yards and 1 TD. Bill Croskey-Merritt had his best day as a pro, with 14 carries for 111 yards and 2 TDs. Deebo Samuel proved he's a WR1 with 8 catches for 96 yards and a TD. How did the offense look overall? What worked this week?On the defensive side of the ball, we begin by shouting out Marshon Lattimore, who has had some tough outings. KDot starts his analysis by saying Lattimore had his best day as a pro. He then shouts out the front 4 for doing their job, and provides some praise for Jordan Magee! What else worked well? The Side Piece Report was great for Amit this week, with the New England Patriots scoring a HUGE road win over the Buffalo Bills in the division in primetime. The Falcons were on bye, so no loss there. KDot's Vikings won without JJ McCarthy, and his Raiders look absolutely terrible, losing 40-6 to the Colts. The Comment Mailbag features 5 comments. The practical implications of this “diplomatic wave” are yet to be seen, but the Israeli Government is taking the move seriously, as many interpret Palestinian recognition as a reward for Hamas' terrorism. Meanwhile, the IDF continues its operations in Gaza City. To discuss the implications of recognizing Palestinian statehood and the evolving situation in Gaza, Dan was joined by Ark Media contributors Nadav Eyal and Amit Segal.
