At just 26 years old, Aleric Heck (@alericheck) has already accomplished what most entrepreneurs only dream of. He started on YouTube over 14 years ago by creating AppFind, which grew into the largest app review channel at the time with over 500k subscribers. Now Aleric runs the highly successful 8-figure company AdOutreach, where he empowers entrepreneurs to harness the power of value-driven video and scale their businesses on YouTube. His clients have collectively generated multiple 9 figures in revenue. Aleric has received ClickFunnels prestigious 2CommaClub-X award, and AdOutreach was ranked the 87th fastest growing company in America by INC 5000. Leveraging his phenomenal results, Aleric has built several other ventures, acquired companies, and invested in businesses with a mission to empower entrepreneurs to share their ideas and solutions with the world. What Travis and Aleric discussed: Mistakes are inevitable when building a business. Rather than get discouraged, view mistakes as tuition you pay to learn. Refine based on data and feedback, but persist through failures on the path to success. Aleric made many mistakes starting his agency, but learned from them. Recurring revenue models are better for establishing long-term relationships and enterprise value versus one-off sales. Big companies obsess over recurring revenue for this reason. With one-off sales, each new deal feels like starting over. With recurring revenue, you continually earn trust. Running YouTube ads to your own public videos as in-stream ads can harm your channel's organic performance. The reason is that in-stream ads are skippable, so they negatively impact watch time metrics. However, in-feed ads that appear in search can boost discoverability without hurting watch time. When first starting out, it's best to niche down and focus on mastering one core skillset or service, then expand from there. This allows you to provide immense value in one area before branching out. Aleric started with a niche YouTube channel reviewing mobile apps, then leveraged that expertise to build his YouTube ads agency. To grow a YouTube channel with ads, first let your best-performing content rise organically. Then boost those top videos through in-feed ads targeted to your ideal audience. This amplifies reach while optimizing for watch time. Simply "boosting" without targeting is less effective. This is a fascinating discussion with YouTube ads expert Aleric Heck on the Travis Makes Friends podcast. Devin Perreault, a personal trainer in Boulder, Colo., was a teenager when he was encouraged by his grandfather, Ernie, to start strength training. That love of lifting came around full circle when Devin started training his grandfather at the age of 95. Ernie had just come home from the hospital after a 2.5-month recovery from hernia surgery when the duo started going to the gym twice a week. Under Devin's guidance, Ernie went from walking with a cane to jogging across a basketball court during their workouts. In this interview, Devin shares how he helped his grandfather increase his strength – all while admiring how much the elder maintained a positive and humble attitude in life – and documented his progress on the 99yearsyoung Instagram account. Ernie passed away in February – months shy of his 100th birthday. But Devin hopes to inspire as many people as possible to get stronger at an older age so they can get as much out of their years as his grandfather did.View PDF TranscriptDevin's Recommendations:- Prince- Shantaram by Gregory David RobertsShuva's Recommendation:- Stacks books and reading list appFind these recommendations and others on the Untrained Wisdom Pinterest page.If you enjoyed this episode, please leave a review on Apple Podcasts. If this enjoy this podcast, consider making a recurring contribution on the Untrained Wisdom Patreon page.Interested in starting your own podcast? Youtube is one of the many strange places on the internet where you find yourself spending hours upon hours, jumping from algebra lessons to cat videos, to a crash course in philosophy, and to videos about a dance group carrying a coffin. It entertains, educates, but as Aleric Heck of AdOutreach found out, it can also make millions. Aleric, before being the president of his own company, made his first exploits on Youtube through a review channel called AppFind which impressed the heck out of a client. So much so that they invited him to work for them. He understood that there was more to Youtube than cat videos and Top 10 countdowns which is why he is encouraging everyone to dive into this new era of content advertising. He also encourages businesses to diversify their online presence in multiple platforms—omnipresence as Aleric put it—where he spends at least $50 a day, testing new platforms. Check out these episode highlights: 01:35 – Aleric's ideal client: "So, our ideal client is really anyone who's looking for more leads and sales online, but specifically, we've worked with a lot of people who are either selling a course, you know, high ticket coaching, consulting, kind of more in the info, you know, coaching course kind of space." 01:59 – Problem Aleric helps solve: " So, the biggest problem and a lot of you listening are probably seeing this right now, is lead costs are going through the roof on Facebook, Google Search, traditional platforms. We help cut those costs down by using YouTube ads, and not only decrease the cost but also increase quality because you add that video element. So that's what we help people out with, with YouTube ads." 02:29 – Typical symptoms that clients do before reaching out to Aleric: "So, one of the biggest things are people are just seeing their costs go up and up, right? Results start slipping, and it just really feels like you're stuck, or you're going backward with your advertising. That's the biggest symptom." 03:06 – What are some of the common mistakes that folks make before finding Aleric and his solution?: "Obviously, the biggest problem is not doing it in the beginning. But those that do they often try to use placement advertisements or really just scratched the surface where you're picking specific videos to run your ads in front of. There's, you know, courses out there that really quite frankly, aren't that great, that are only talking about this one way. And that's the biggest problem is people just try and target videos instead of going into the broader array of targeting we're going to talk about in a second." 03:52 – Aleric's Valuable Free Action(VFA): So, the first is creating a video ad that's actually going to convert on YouTube. Most people when they do, and this is another mistake, is they'll do like a one-minute ad. We found a three to five-minute ad, really educates your viewer, provides value, actually performs the best on YouTube. So, it has a hook, it educates and has a call to action, exactly. And then on the targeting side, not only targeting in front of keywords or videos or channels, or topics, but also layering in audiences. There's a way in YouTube to layer in audiences like you can on Facebook. So now you have audiences plus the video that they're watching, that's the combination that produces the best results. 05:24 – Aleric's Valuable Free Resource (VFR): Claim Your YouTube Ads Gift From Aleric Heck & the AdOutreach Team: Choose Your Gift Here: https://...
