While we often view bookkeepers as the magicians of our business finances, appreciating their attention to detail, their ability to categorize and match debits and credits, and for keeping our finances organized, there also exists the perception of a gap between the business owner's and the bookkeeper's knowledge of how money works. This lack of understanding can lead to miscommunications and underappreciation for the work that therapists or bookkeepers do. Sara Walls has seen both sides of the coin, having experienced being the therapist who needed help managing the business finances to becoming the bookkeeper who now helps therapists with their money. She actually left private practice for a few years until she discovered additional tools like Profit First by Mike Michalowicz and Linzy's course, “Money Skills for Therapists” (links below). In fact, one of her biggest realizations that helped push her to pursue help is summarized nicely with this quote: (00:06:17) "It became clear the more I got into it that what I didn't know was how much I could actually afford to pay myself, when I could pay myself, how consistently I could pay myself, exactly how much I should be saving for taxes." - Sara Walls Learn about her journey from therapist to bookkeeper for therapists, some financial management tips for neurodivergent private practice owners, ways to develop good financial habits to reduce stress about money and gain a deeper understanding of what a good bookkeeper can do for your business. Reducing Stress and Enhancing Financial Management with Accountability (00:02:45) Bookkeepers' Unrecognized Complexity in Accounting Profession (00:08:45) Therapist turned Bookkeeper shares financial insights (00:19:10) Bookkeepers: Undervalued and Underpaid Professionals (00:20:58) Routine Financial Engagement for Reduced Money Stress (00:28:44) Financial Co-Regulation for Enhanced Accountability (00:30:37) Financial Literacy Training for Therapists Establishing Open Lines of Communication & Good Financial Habits for Long-Term Success Finding an aligned service provider when it comes to your business finances may require an interview or other setting where you can determine their level of transparency, their defensiveness or openness when you ask questions, and their expectation of your two roles in the business relationship. Some bookkeepers may gatekeep as their defensive reaction to “protecting” their value. Similarly, some practice owners may not recognize the complexity of the work required to keep the business finances straight. Here are immediate ways to improve your bookkeeping and financial management skills in your therapy practice: Establish a financial routine: Regularly approach your finances, whether it's checking your bank app, updating spreadsheets, or using accounting software like QuickBooks. Systemize & organize: Keep track of your income and expenses systematically to avoid falling behind, implementing some automation and delegation to help along the way. Learn basic accounting: Seek basic understanding of financial concepts like debits and credits. This knowledge can empower you to manage your finances more effectively. Find assistance & accountability: Work with a qualified bookkeeper who understands the specific needs of therapists and small business owners and who openly answers your questions and provides transparency. Avoid the “it's a write-off!” trap: While deductions are beneficial, ensure you have enough cash flow to pay yourself and set aside funds for...

This week, Jason is joined by Survivor season 48, Kyle Fraser! After 26 days of outwitting, outplaying, and outlasting one of the most grueling reality competition shows out there in television history, Kyle walked away with the 1 million dollar prize and the title of soul survivor. Known for his strategic gameplay, clutch immunity wins, and ability to build trust in even the most cutthroat situations, Kyle's season has been called one of the most exciting in recent memory. Kyle takes us behind the scenes of his Survivor journey and life after winning $1,000,000. He shares the unforgettable moment he told his wife he'd won, how fast the prize money hit his account, and the first splurge—Taylor Swift tickets. From navigating starvation, sleep deprivation, and drastic weight loss on the island, to the strategy of amping up his personality, hiding his real career as a lawyer, and why winning rewards can actually hurt your game, Kyle reveals what it really takes to stand out among fierce competitors. He also dives into his dual life as a teacher and lawyer, the realities and pay gaps between both professions, the critical role intent plays in court, and how his investigation skills served him better than reading people. Finally, Kyle opens up about life before and after Survivor: the judge who helped him balance work and TV, what he would bring to a deserted island, how he's spent his winnings so far, and why keeping a safety net is non-negotiable. Kyle reveals all this and so much more in another episode you can't afford to miss! Wine Talks is deeply connected to the Judgement of Paris. Not only were the Barretts good customers of our wine shop, Warren Winiarski stayed in our home on a trip to Los Angeles. The industry was completely different then. California wine had always been a thing, particularly before prohibition. It had even made its way to the east coast in the 1800's. But then came that fateful day in Paris at the Intercontinental Hotel, the Americans won. In Paris, there was a journalist named George Taber. He had heard about this tasting pitting California's boutique gems against the equivalent (at least from a grape standpoint) French stars. It turned out to be no contest and set the wine world on its ears. Can you imagine, French judges choosing American vintages over their beloved French wines? George Taber was the only journalist to show up...and almost didn't. George Taber never meant to shake the wine world—he just happened to be the only journalist in the room when California shattered centuries of French pride. As you join us on Wine Talks, you'll walk beside Taber through the candlelit salons of 1970s Paris, where the unsuspecting French sat down to a blind tasting designed to showcase their invincibility, only to watch that myth dissolve, glass by glass. In this episode, you'll learn how a simple event—what began as a friendly challenge orchestrated by Steven Spurrier—ended up catalyzing the global rise of American wine and undermining the Old World's complacency. You'll get an intimate portrait of the Parisian wine scene in its heyday: corner wine shops, eager expatriates, and the odd British merchant shaking things up with unorthodox ideas. Follow Taber's transformation from a young Time magazine reporter, new to France and mostly ignorant of wine, to the accidental chronicler of one of history's most dramatic palate shifts. Discover how logistical headaches and legal loopholes almost kept California's best bottles out of the competition, and what happened when French wine judges realized—too late—that their favorite “Meursault” was actually a Napa Chardonnay. You'll hear about the aftershocks reverberating through both continents; how careers were built, fortunes made, and the entire wine business transformed overnight. Plus, Taber reveals the stubborn role of luck in history and how something as small as attending the right tasting at the right time can change everything. By the end, you'll not only understand the Judgment of Paris, but also the passion, humility, and disruption that lie inside every bottle. #WineTalks #JudgmentOfParis #CaliforniaWine #FrenchWine #GeorgeTaber #StevenSpurrier #ChateauMontelena #StagsLeapWineCellars #NapaValley #WineHistory #WineTasting #WineEducation #BlindTasting #WineIndustry #PodcastInterview #WineStorytelling #WineCulture #CorkHistory #FrenchLifestyle #NewWorldWines Time Magazine Website: https://time.com (Armen refers to working as a journalist at Time magazine.) What's REALLY Going On Behind the Scenes of the CIA, the Media, and the U.S. Government? On Mayim Bialik's Breakdown, former CIA agents and intelligence officers Andrew & Jihi Bustamante (creators of the EverydaySpy podcast, authors of Shadow Cell: An Insider Account of America's New Spy War & popular guests on Diary of a CEO & The Joe Rogan Experience) pull back the curtain in this explosive, no-holds-barred conversation. From the moment you marry a spy (can you ever truly trust your partner?) to the shocking 4 categories of lies the CIA teaches—Mayim & Jonathan dive deep into the secretive world of espionage, national security, and the collapse of trust in modern institutions. Andrew and Jihi break down the shrinking middle class caused by American politics post-Trump, what it means for our future, whether the U.S. is moving closer to dictatorship (and if so, can we stop it?), and why the wealthy elite are leaving the U.S. (and which countries they're fleeing to). These whistleblowers expose what the CIA doesn't want you to know: - The 4 categories of lies every CIA officer is trained to tell - The agency's current use of psychics and Cold War-era remote viewing programs - The loneliness and psychological toll of living a covert life - How the news & media is manipulated—and why even “trusted” outlets are failing us - Post-Trump politics: is the U.S. sliding toward dictatorship or already in it? - Why wealthy elites are fleeing America (and where they're going) - The global fallout if a U.S. president is jailed, and what it means for our standing - The CIA's take on Israel, rising global conflicts, and the risk of world war - How AI is dehumanizing warfare and reshaping the battlefield - Why Epstein's case continues to expose cracks in our institutions Andrew and Jihi also reveal how influence, persuasion, and dialogue can still be used productively—even in a fractured society. From Venezuela's collapse as a warning sign to the everyday challenge of separating real news from propaganda, this is more than an interview—it's a wake-up call. Her story is a powerful reminder that it's never too late to follow your curiosity and explore what else is possible. We pull back the curtain on her transition, what it felt like to leave a successful business behind, and how she broke into pharma despite not being the typical candidate. Whether you're just beginning to question your current path or actively exploring nonclinical options, Michelle's story offers honesty, encouragement, and practical tools for the journey ahead. She shares what really happens behind the scenes—from failed interviews and self-doubt to finally landing the right role. In this episode we're talking about: What it's like to make a bold pivot when you don't fit the “traditional” candidate mold. How Michelle handled rejection (including one painful interview setback) and kept going. Why informational interviews were a game-changer (even when some flopped). The mindset shift that helped her overcome fear and finally hit “send” on those messages. How she reframed her background to land roles — even without the “right” experience. What's REALLY Going On Behind the Scenes of the CIA, the Media, and the U.S. Today we sit down with Sheila Carrasco, who brings “Flower” to life on the hit CBS comedy Ghosts. After earning her BFA at NYU, she spent three years self-producing plays without an agent before pursuing an MFA at Harvard's American Repertory Theater, where she honed her comedic skills and character work. That path led her to the Groundlings' famed Sunday Company, where she found her voice and signed with CAA. Sheila shares the twists of her Ghosts audition including the COVID shutdown that nearly derailed it to the creative choices that shaped Flower. She also gives insights on ensemble improv and lessons learned from industry veterans, including her time as a stand-in on The Good Place. Her story is a testament to perseverance, finding your niche, and why it “takes 10 years to start working as an actor” and “20 years to build a career.” These are the unforgettable stories that landed Sheila Carrasco right here.
