Vi ratear/roastar IGN:s tiopoängare genom tiderna!Listan: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (N64) Reviewed by Kristine Steimer November 25, 1998 "The new benchmark for interactive entertainment has arrived. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, the fifth official installment in Nintendo's popular action adventure series is finally here, and like its NES predecessor in 1987 it is a game so enjoyable, it has the power to pull videogame players into its imaginative worlds -- and refuse to let go for days. Call us crazy, but when the final version of Zelda 64 arrived in the IGN64 offices, we stopped working, locked ourselves into a room with a big-screen TV and a surround system and played 17 hours straight. After only a few hours of sleep, we were back for more and we couldn't stop until we finished the game. Then, we started over again to find all the secrets. Rarely is there such a perfect mixture of graphics, sound, and gameplay that even the most cynical players will admit that Zelda 64 is poised to shape the action RPG genre for years to come." Pokemon Red Reviewed by Craig Harris June 23, 1999 "Pokemon really is worthy of being one of the Game Boy system's greatest games - it's not just a fad, a craze, or trend. If you don't have this game in your library, pick one up, it doesn't matter if you pick Blue or Red, they're both the same game. You'll just have to make sure you've got a friend with the other version if you want to catch 'em all." Pokemon Blue Reviewed by Craig Harris June 23, 1999 "Pokemon really is worthy of being one of the Game Boy system's greatest games - it's not just a fad, a craze, or trend. If you don't have this game in your library, pick one up, it doesn't matter if you pick Blue or Red, they're both the same game. You'll just have to make sure you've got a friend with the other version if you want to catch 'em all." Checkered Flag Reviewed by Robert A. Jung July 6, 1999 "This is a high-performance title that does nothing but pure video racing, and does it extremely well. Crammed with exciting gameplay, fast action, options galore, hot sound and graphics, and true multiplayer challenge, Checkered Flag is absolutely terrific!" Joust Reviewed by Robert A. Jung July 6, 1999 "Joust is another unbelievably excellent product from Shadowsoft. Players who never played the arcade title will be captivated by its simple rules, deep strategy, and fast action, while the legions of arcade Joust fans will be in video-gaming heaven!" Super Mario Bros. Deluxe Reviewed by Craig Harris July 21, 1999 "Super Mario Bros. remains one of my top 10 favorite games of all-time, even though it's almost a decade and a half old. Super Mario Bros. Deluxe is such a perfect translation, it makes me wonder if it's easy to port NES games to the Game Boy Color. Super Mario Bros. Deluxe is the Game Boy Color-specific game to own, hands down, and will be the title that, hopefully, will key a revolution of porting NES games to the handheld system. Buy this game. Now." The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening DX Reviewed by Adam Cleveland September 17, 1999 "If that's not enough to set your minds on gaming fire, then you seriously need a reality check, because The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening has never been anything but one of the top video games of all time, and its latest, enhanced version is nothing short of perfect. For years to come and then some, it will continue to remain one of my all-time favorite adventures, and unless someone puts a couple of gun barrels to my head, my opinions won't be swayed. If you don't already own Zelda DX, there's no reason from this point on that you shouldn't. So hop in your car and step on the gas, 'cause the best Game Boy game of all time has been for sale for quite some time, and you're missing out on oceans of fun." Soulcalibur Reviewed by Anoop Gantayat September 20, 1999 "Few games come to mind as "required purchases," games that are so good that they have to be a part of your lineup. The original Soul Edge was such a game, and now Soul Calibur has earned a place alongside its brother. It may or may not be the most complicated fighting game out there - I'm not bold enough to make such a statement. I am bold enough, though, to state that I've never had so much fun with a fighting game than I had when playing Soul Calibur." Mario Golf (Game Boy Color) Reviewed by Craig Harris October 5, 1999 "Guys and gals, I don't care if you're not into golf, you must add Mario Golf to your library of Game Boy Color games. This game is the perfect title to complement your collection. It's got tons of variety, pick-up-and-play controls, N64 connectivity... and it's great fun, especially in the later levels. The early challenges from the pros are decidedly easy to get through ¿ you'll see them throw easy, five foot putts to give you the lead. But when you go up against Mario in the Tournaments, watch out. Mario Golf is by far the best portable version of golf, and it even comes close to toppling some of the PC golf offerings as well." Pokemon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition Reviewed by Craig Harris October 19, 1999 "There's a reason why Pokemon is so successful, it's an excellent game. The game isn't incredibly deep, but the incentive of catching new creatures for your personal collection is a strong enough force to get you going to the end. The game is super easy to pick up and play, yet it's challenging it its own right. And it's addictive. After playing both Pokemon Red/Blue and then Yellow, I have to say that Pokemon Yellow is the best version to start out on the whole Pokemon craze." Sonic Pocket Adventure Reviewed by Craig Harris December 7, 1999 "I am really, really stunned at how well Sonic Pocket Adventure turned out on the NeoGeo Pocket Color ¿ the system needed a platform game, and Sonic delivers big-time. There are minor slowdown glitches, but not enough to distract from the overall game experience. The cartridge is truly brimming with gaming options that will keep you coming back, especially if you're lucky enough to have access to two systems. SNK really delivers the goods on another company's mascot, and Sonic Pocket Adventure is a cartridge no handheld library should be without. Yes, it has to be said: this game is a system-seller." SNK vs. Capcom: Match of the Millennium Reviewed by Craig Harris January 4, 2000 "As far as I'm concerned, this is the perfect handheld fighter, no question about it. The Capcom license gives players a familiar feel as well as introducing newcomers to the SNK library of fighters. The game isn't exactly a challenge right off the bat, but once you move the difficulty setting from Normal to Hard (there's two more after that: Brutal and Gamer), good luck. The computer AI can get downright nasty. And the Olympic mode really puts your Street Fighter abilities to test - let's just see how far you can get. SNK just keeps doing the right stuff with its portable...let's hope the Capcom tradition continues. The Ghouls 'N Ghosts minigame just BEGS to be converted into the full-fledged game. Let's have it, people..." Källa: IGN INDIA

Welcome to Dev Game Club, where this week we continue our series on Dwarf Fortress. We turn to the Steam version of the game and especially talk about how a more graphical presentation changes the feel of the game. Dev Game Club looks at classic video games and plays through them over several episodes, providing commentary. Sections played: 2 - 8 hours (Tim - Brett) Issues covered: starting over, an unhappy bard who you just can't make happy, the necromancer who injured himself in a ravine and who raised an undead to defend him, exploring the game's systems to try and make her happy, goals that arise indirectly, the accomplishment of making her happy, abandoning saves, letting the simulation run, walling in your staircase and the art being unclear, 500K events, the history of the world, watching the world be built or discarded, being curious about a smaller world, resource pressure, task management, a relatively frictionless first year, the leap of graphics, zooming up through the canopy, seeing your floors, realizing what things represent, going narrow so you can go deep, generating stories, hidden personality variables, dating sims, adding pressure by adding a bunch of new dwarves, meeting areas, a starving cow, so many timers and spinning many plates, the evocative melancholy of the music, games from our childhood. I'm tossing a disclaimer into the very beginning of this description - If you're looking for a podcast that breaks down the strategies, intricacies, and fine details of Pokemon Red & Blue, you might want to keep looking. That's not us. But if you're just looking for a big fat syringe of nostalgia, and a couple of nerds talking about a pair of games they grew up adoring? C'mon in!   I put Super Mario Bros. on the pedestal of all pedestals around here, due to the impact it had on gaming, and one of the largest franchises in the industry. And I don't think it's an exaggeration to put Pokemon Red & Blue on that same level. I think everyone that grew up in the late 90's had Pokemon fever. And yeah, the movies, toys, TV shows, and future video games are all great. But we wouldn't have any of them with the OGs: Red & Blue.    My buddy Andre and I took a trip down memory lane this week, and had a HELL of a time talking about our experiences with Pokemon from back in the day. I defend Bulbasaur, we talk about how everyone SHOULD hate Nintendo for the way they monetize these series (but we don't), and we get into our favourite, and least favourite, Pokemon from the original 150.    And yes, it's 150. Mew sucks.   And before we talk about 'em all, I host another edition of the 'Remember The Game? Infamous Intro'!    This week, we ponder the future of gaming and whether or not "consoles" as we know them will keep releasing forever. Someone asks what gaming would look like today if SEGA had won the console wars instead of Nintendo. And if I could DE-make one modern game into an SNES iteration, which would it be?   PLUS, we have another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', featuring three Pokemon spinoffs: Pokemon Puzzle League, Pokemon Stadium, and The Pokemon Trading Card Game.    Are you on social media? Of course you are.

An update to the official Sun and Moon website unveils details on 6 new Pokemon (including localization of two previously revealed Pokemon). A friend of Shane's, Danny, joins us on the show to talk about these six new Pokemon, as well as share some memories and stories of playing older Pokemon games like Pokemon Red/Blue. Pokemon Go fever is still everywhere, and some businesses have used the game to see huge successes. However, one local neighborhood to where we live is getting fed up with all the cars cruising thru looking for Dratinis. Can or should Niantic move these Pokemon elsewhere?

A Podcast [ , ] For All Intents and Purposes

This week was a podcast made on the run! With both hosts getting sick at different intervals and one host going out of town, it's a wonder that such quality audio comes together at all. With that in mind, please forgive us for any inconsistencies in quality. Week in Geek: Andrew buys a dictator simulator on a Steam sale while Dan accidentally preorders a book twice and laments the amount of Gamecubes seen at a local swap meet. Ready Player One: Steven Spielberg was recently announced as the director for the film adaptation of the nerd-favorite novel. Considering the book was written by a huge fan of '70s and '80s gaming culture, can that translate to the screen and be as impactful with Speilberg at the helm? Fans and their Fiction:  It's widely known that nerdy fans express their appreciation for their beloved stories in many different ways. This week, we examine how fans contribute to the fictions they love so much and many of the implication involved with doing that. Douglas Adams: We couldn't ignore the fact that we're in the middle of episode 42 and not mention Douglas Adams. Conveniently, we make the argument that Mr. Adams is also the most successful fan fiction writer...of himself. Question of the Geek:   With regard to creating original work in a pre-existing fiction, which would you like to create for? Leave your answers in the comments for this page at forall.libsyn.com. You may also leave your answers on our official Facebook an Google+ pages, and join in on the conversations there. Feel free to also e-mail us at forallpod [at] gmail.com. For intents and purposes, that was an episode recap. Featured Music: -"Stayin' in Black" by Wax Audio -"Dead Man's Party" by Oingo Boingo -"Express Yourself" by Charles Wright and The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band -"So Long and Thanks for All the Fish" by Joby Talbot and Hilary Summers (from the soundtrack to The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy) -"The Doctor and I" by John Barrowman -"Professor Oak Theme" by Junichi Masuda (from Pokemon Red/Blue)
