A must for any Halloween watchlist, Candyman (1992) remains one of horror's most haunting reflections on myth, race, and obsession. In this episode of Cutting Deep into Horror, hosts Henrique Couto and Rachael Redolfi dig into Bernard Rose's chilling vision, exploring how Clive Barker's original short story “The Forbidden” transformed into a film that defined early-'90s horror. We dissect Tony Todd's commanding performance as Candyman, Virginia Madsen's descent into madness, and the real-world setting of Chicago's Cabrini-Green housing projects, where folklore and fear intertwine. From the gothic tragedy of Helen Lyle to the legacy of Candyman as a mirror of societal anxieties, Henrique and Rachael unpack why this film's legacy still cuts deep over thirty years later.Inside this episode:

Nathan and Ryan descend into the underworld of Nightbreed (1990), Clive Barker's cult fantasy-horror epic about a hidden city of monsters and the humans who fear them. As the hosts unpack Barker's unique vision of good, evil, and everything monstrous in between, they dive into the film's troubled production, its striking creature designs, and how it found redemption through its devoted cult following and the fabled “Director's Cut.” Expect talk of ‘90s horror weirdness, misunderstood monsters, and why Nightbreed remains one of the most ambitious dark fantasies of its time.

This one is pure nightmare fuel, yet I can't help but admire the gorgeous grotesque artistry of it all. From the unforgettable Cenobites to the exquisite gore, Barker creates a world that's both bleak and strangely beautiful. This is horror that doesn't just scare—it mesmerizes, leaving you caught between revulsion and awe.Support The Conner & Smith Show on Patreon here:https://www.patreon.com/ConnerandSmith?utm_campaign=creatorshare_fan
This week on we're opening the Lament Configuration and stepping into a world of pain and pleasure with Clive Barker's iconic 1987 horror film, Hellraiser! We'll explore the dark and disturbing story of Frank Cotton, the cenobites led by the unforgettable Pinhead, and the truly unique blend of body horror and forbidden desires that makes this movie a true original. We'll discuss how pain and pleasure become indistinguishable and why this film remains a terrifying benchmark in the genre. And to properly summon the experience, we're mixing up a cocktail we call The Hellraiser. This drink features a spine-tingling trio of botanical gin, the bittersweet sting of Aperol, and a surprising, seductive kick from pepper syrup. It's a complex, challenging, and unexpectedly delicious mix—a taste of what the cenobites might call "sweet suffering." So, open your box, pour your drink, and get ready to raise a glass to the master of pain, Hellraiser!Cocktail comes from The Martini Shot!Merch ShopPatreonInstagramBlueskyFacebookhttps://www.drinkthemovies.comYouTubeDiscord*Please Drink Responsibly*

How did a British ghost story set in a Liverpool council estate became America's most haunting urban legend? In 1992, director Bernard Rose transformed Clive Barker's British ghost story, The Forbidden, into one of horror's most intelligent and thought-provoking slashers. But the inspiration ran deeper than fiction. The tragic 1987 murder of Ruthie Mae McCoy, who called 911 claiming someone was breaking into her Chicago apartment through her bathroom mirror, is a chilling real life inspiration to one of cinema's most enduring, and gothically romantic horror icons.Candyman is not just a horror movie; it's a reflection of societal fears, racial injustice, and the haunting legacy of violence against Black people in America, specifically black men. The film, set in the Cabrini Green housing project, serves as a backdrop for a story that's both supernatural and tragically real. Tony Todd's portrayal of Candyman is chilling yet tragic, highlighting the character's backstory as a victim of racial injustice rather than just a typical horror villain. Helen Lyle, a white woman who becomes entangled in the Candyman myth, exposes the privilege and naivety that often accompany the quest for truth. The contrast between her character and the realities faced by the residents of Cabrini Green is not just a plot device; it's a commentary on who gets to tell stories and which voices are heard.I dare you to say his name five times... Hello everyone! Anders Holmes is here with another solo episode where he reviews the sci fi horror film Event Horizon, directed by Paul W.S. Anderson. As it is spooky season with October around the corner and Halloween is on the way, Anders Holmes will be talking about some of his favourite horror films in these solo Anders Reviews episodes. Horrors film that are some of his favourites, films that have made a big impression on him and films that people should check out. Whether they be fans of the genre or not. On this episode, Anders talks about one of his favourite horror films from the 1990s. Event Horizon was released in 1997 and Anders's words, it is the perfect definition of a cult film. Event Horizon may have bombed at the box office and received mostly negative reviews, however over the years it has amassed a large cult following. One of those types of films that found its audience and success later on home video, DVD, Blu-ray and streaming. The film stars Sam Neill, Laurence Fishburne, Jason Isaacs, Sean Pertwee, Kathleen Quinlan, Joely Richardson, Richard T. Jones and Jack Noseworthy. A script written by Philip Eisner. Event Horizon is best described as a haunted house film set in space. It is set in the not to distant future, 2047 to be exact. Prior to the events of the film, seven years earlier, the starship Event Horizon disappears without a trace. The ship was designed for vast space exploration. It reappears and is orbiting around the planet of Neptune. A rescue salvage crew, the Lewis & Clark, led by Captain Miller (Fishburne) is sent out to rescue the remaining crew members and salvage the ship. Along for the ride is Dr William Weir (Neill) who designed and built the Event Horizon. Upon entering the Event Horizon, do they find the ship empty of its crew and also discover evidence of bloody violence. It slowly becomes evident to our characters, that they are not alone. Wherever the ship has been for the last seven years, it has brought something back with it. It is a race against time for the Lewis & Clark crew to figure out what is going on before they suffer the same fate that befell the Event Horizon crew. Event Horizon takes characteristics of the haunted house genre and mixes it together with the stylings of Ridley Scott's Alien, Andrei Tarkovsky's Solaris and Clive Barker's Hellraiser. A film that is fun, entertaining and something you want to watch with a large crowd. Having said that, the production history is much more interesting than the film itself. Event Horizon had a rushed production schedule and was put together quickly. Multiple scenes were cut from the film. Those scenes/moments don't exist anymore and the footage that does exist was badly preserved or of bad VHS quality. Chances of an extended cut from Paul W.S. Anderson are slim, but it is still able to stand on its own.We hope you enjoy this episode and stay tuned for more solo episodes from Anders during this year's spooky season.Be sure to check out our Monument Valley Film on our YouTube Channel.Follow us on our Instagram page. Also check us out on Letterboxd too!AndersAdam Hosted on Acast.
Hello, People of the Wasteland. My name is Dave, Store Manager of Apocalypse Video, and I would like to read you the following statement I have prepared: “After the utter failure of our recent summer film fest, which featured the likes of Catwoman and Madame Web, I admit that my decision to create a whole summer of programming based purely on spite was ill conceived and wrong. I accept all responsibility for the pain and anguish that came along with everyone in the wasteland having to watch these terrible films in order to follow along with our corresponding podcast reviews. I hope that you will one day forgive me, and as a gesture of what I hope will lead to my eventual redemption, I would like to announce that this month's programming will officially be known as “Dave's Apology Tour”; a series of reviews based on movies and shows that people actually enjoy - and not things like the live action Aeon Flux. And with that, I hope you enjoy the first entry in my Apology Tour, 1999's box office smash: The Mummy.” I'm your host who's skating on thin ice, Dave, and joining me as we kick off a batch of watchable movies for a change are fellow cinephiles and crypt robbers Mike, Jackie, and Ryan. Topics of discussion in this episode include the famed “Summer of ‘99” (aka: the year of dual wielding pistols and CG bugs entering people's bodies); we talk about the decades long journey to bring The Mummy to screen, which included the likes of Joe Dante and Clive Barker; and finally, we talk about the Mummy's place in a crowded summer dominated by The Matrix and Star Wars: Episode One - The Phantom Menace. podcast horreur Dans cet épisode de Dans l'Ombre des Légendes, nous plongeons dans l'histoire interdite des Amants de la Cendre.

A Company of Wolves (1984), Nightbreed (1990), Errementari (2017) As horror fans, we might not really think about the amount of horror elements that are in other sub-genres, such as fantasy. Sure, we all know titles like Conan the Barbarian (1982) that has a guy who turns into a giant snake, or Legend (1985) where one of the main characters is some sort of demon or devil, do those elements make it a horror film? We all know that horror is used in many different genres of films, even some where the filmmakers themselves go out of their way to make sure to define it NOT as horror. But we know. But when it comes to Fantasy / Horror, that's where the story might be based on fairy tales or folklore, and definitely has some elements of horror in there, either in content or maybe just characters. The line can get kind of blurry. But we also know that if its entertaining, then does it really matter? Take a listen as we discuss 3 titles that we all felt hit the Fantasy / Horror sub-genre, for a variety of reasons. Tune in and find out why. Titles mentioned in this episode: Army of Darkness (1992), Beastmaster (1982), A Company of Wolves (1984), Conan the Barbarian (1982), The Curse of Frankenstein (1957), The Crying Game (1992), The Devil's Backbone (2001), Don't Be Afraid of the Dark (2010), Errementari (2017), Eyes of Fire (1983), Frankenstein (1931), Freaks (1932), Häxan (1922), Hellboy (2004), Hellraiser (1987), In Dreams (1999), Interview with the Vampire (1994), Jason and the Argonauts (1963), Krull (1983), Legend (1985), Lord of Illusions (1995), Masters of the Universe (1987), Nightbreed (1990), Pan's Labyrinth (2006), Phantasm (1979), The Picture of Dorian Gray (1945), Sword and the Sorcerers (1982), Suspiria (1977)

This piece of shit, I mean really what are we doing here talking about this garbage, life is short, it's summer time we're supposed to be surfing and sunbathing and sucking cock, what is this, what are we doing with our lives, what have we done to deserve this, I'm going to fucking blow my fucking brains out!Just kidding, we're back with the third and clearly worst instalment of the I KNOW WHAT YOU DID franchise (or is it more the LAST SUMMER franchise?). This is some god damned direct-to-video trash I tell ya what and there is not much to talk about here save for some gnarly skateboard tricks in the first 5 minutes. We also talk about Clive Barker's RAWHEAD REX and at some point when things are really degenerating we just start naming members of Jackass.Next week we're heading to the movie theatres for the latest (and greatest?) legacy sequel, unimaginatively titled I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER (2025).Follow us @thefranchisees on Instagram and Twitter and email us at thefranchiseespod@gmail.com

This time on General Witchfinders, we're heading into deep space — and hell itself — with the notorious 1997 science fiction horror film Event Horizon.··Directed by Paul Anderson and written by Philip Eisner, Event Horizon is set in 2047. A rescue crew investigates the ship Event Horizon, which vanished years earlier and is now orbiting Neptune.··After Mortal Kombat (1995), Anderson was suddenly in demand, linked to Mortal Kombat: Annihilation and even X-Men. Instead, he wanted a darker R-rated project. Paramount gave him Eisner's script, first about alien creatures, but Anderson reworked it into a haunted house in space, drawing on The Haunting and The Shining.··Filming was rushed when Titanic slipped its release. The first 130-minute cut was heavily trimmed after poor test screenings. One infamous scene, a Bosch-inspired vision of Hell using amputees and adult performers, survived only as brief flashes but fuelled the film's cult status.··The gravity drive began as a floating black hole but was redesigned as rotating spiked rings, echoing Clive Barker's Hellraiser and biblical Ophanim. Built to really move, it rattled so much that dialogue was re-recorded later. Eisner admitted Warhammer 40,000's “Warp” also influenced the idea.··At the time Anderson was credited as “Paul Anderson.” He later added the W. S. to avoid confusion with Paul Thomas Anderson. His later films include Resident Evil entries and Alien vs. Predator.··Filming took place at Pinewood Studios with visual effects by Cinesite and the Computer Film Company. The interior design was inspired by Notre Dame, creating a cruciform gothic cathedral feel. An early space station shot of Dr. Weir took 10 weeks, a third of the FX budget, and was redone more than 20 times. Composer Michael Kamen worked with Orbital for a hybrid score.··Laurence Fishburne plays Captain Miller of the Lewis and Clark. He later voiced the Silver Surfer, played Jack Crawford in Hannibal, and appeared in A Nightmare on Elm Street 3.··Sam Neill plays Dr. William Weir. Famous for Jurassic Park, he once auditioned for James Bond, losing to Timothy Dalton, and appeared in Possession and Omen III: The Final Conflict.··Jason Isaacs appears as D.J., the medic. Early credits include The Tall Guy. He went on to play Lucius Malfoy in Harry Potter and Harry H. Corbett in The Curse of Steptoe. He recalled Event Horizon as “genuinely disturbing,” especially the “hell set.”··Sean Pertwee plays pilot Smith. Son of Jon Pertwee, the Third Doctor, he appeared in Cadfael, horror favourite Dog Soldiers, and later Gotham as Alfred Pennyworth, reimagined as ex-special forces.··Event Horizon remains a cult 1990s sci-fi horror, combining gothic design, disturbing imagery, and a cast of future stars. Its lost footage and production stories keep fans returning to one of the most infamous horror films of the decade.·Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/general-witchfinders. Hosted on Acast. FLESH WISH, 4min., UK Directed by Timothy Benjamin Slessor An experimental horror inspired by H.P. Lovecraft, David Cronenberg and Clive Barker, this music video / short details in an abstract way the summoning of demons through a ritual performed behind the locked doors of a 1970s terraced house. What motivated you to make this film? Several factors! Firstly, I wanted to make something visual to accompany the release of my album. Secondly, I wanted to experiment with a lot of different ideas and techniques, but importantly have a finished piece of work to show for it, not just a bunch of tests. Thirdly I wanted to see how I could kind of corrupt and pervert generative ai platforms and work them into my editing and animation / vfx practise and finally I wanted to make something that would surprise and confound my friends and colleagues! From the idea to the finished product, how long did it take for you to make this film? It was about three to four months of laborious work, mostly in after effects and premiere. I had to create all of the images and heavily distort and rework them and the editing was done frame-by-frame. About 6 months after it was finished I considered going back and tweaking some things but one look at the edit sequence was enough to convince me to leave well alone! How would you describe your film in two words!? Quite fleshy. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in completing this film? The hardest thing was just getting it finished! It was so hard to create enough interesting images and scenes, especially given the extremely fast cut-rate. I kept trimming the track down (ultimately from around 5 mins to about 3'45 I think) just so I could get it done (I had to keep pushing the release of the album back too as a result). In this episode of ClassHorrorCast, we take a deep dive into Clive Barker's Midnight Meat Train (2008) – a dark, unrelenting horror film that never got the recognition it deserved.Directed by Ryuhei Kitamura and starring Vinnie Jones as the silent but deadly Mahogany, alongside a pre-Hollywood-star Bradley Cooper, this movie is equal parts brutal and beautiful. We look back at how the film was adapted from Barker's Books of Blood, exploring its themes of obsession, urban decay, and the monsters lurking beneath the city streets. We'll talk about the troubled release that led to the film's “lost” status, its striking visuals and gore effects, and why it deserves a rightful place among modern horror's cult classics.Expect behind-the-scenes stories, discussion of Kitamura's unique style, the film's shocking ending, and how this underrated gem paved the way for some of the most visually intense horror of the 2000s.If you've never seen Midnight Meat Train or it's been years since your last watch, this episode will make you want to jump back on board. For more of my content - CLICK HEREBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/class-horror-cast--4295531/support.
