Hosted on Acast.

The greatest living punk-rock guitarist: Brian Baker. His impact on punk music and in rock is undeniable. Whether you know him from hardcore legends Minor Threat, punk icons Bad Religion, or some non-super-group super-groups like Fake Names, Foxhall Stacks, or Beach Rats you have no doubt feasted on at least one of the Baker's dozen or so bands. We take some deep dives into gear on this one... We talk the magic of Gibsons, Marshalls, P90 pickups, and more. How the gear has influenced the player, how the player has influenced the gear, and how these have changed over time on stage and in studio, but why it's important for Brian to keep the rig simple. It was an honor to have this conversation and an absolute joy to share it. Keep up with all things Brian Baker online at @brianbakers @badreligionband @beachratsnj and @dag.nasty Be sure to check out the new Fake Names ep here which also features Baker, Johnny Temple (Girls Against Boys), Michael Hampton (S.O.A., Embrace), and Dennis Lyxzén (The Refused, International Noise Conspiracy). We’re only in it for the drugs.
For the latest episode of our special Lockdown Lowdown series we welcome former bassist with The (International) Noise Conspiracy, Inge Johansson into the virtual Retrosonic studio to discuss the excellent debut album "Kampen Går Vidare!" by his new solo project Gatuplan. In this thoroughly entertaining chat, Inge takes on a musical journey from the isolation of growing up in a small town in the north of Sweden to finding hope and creative inspiration in the music of Heavy Metal and Punk Rock. There are his first forays into becoming a musician and the early influences on his bass playing. This leads onto touring and recording with acts as diverse as Totalt Jävla Mörker, CSS, Nicke Andersson's Imperial State Electric, Cryssis and The Most and Inge cheerfully recounts his time spent with each of these bands and the characters he met and worked with along the way. Of course we cover his time with The (International) Noise Conspiracy and of running Ny Våg, a record label and club night with frontman Dennis Lyxzén. The episode is sound-tracked by songs from each of the featured bands along with a selection of some of Inge's most inspirational musical moments from Kiss, Black Sabbath, The Exploited, Chumbawamba and The Specials. Of course we also concentrate on Gatuplan and Inge explains the story behind the project, his new bandmates and the somewhat surprising influence behind the choice of band name. So, turn up the volume, sit back and enjoy! The story of Refused is an interesting one. The Swedish hardcore punk legends had a strong fanbase and released three albums, the final of which was a modern classic. In 1998, The Shape of Punk to Come was just that: a forecast for how the scene would change, mashing genre and all the while bringing the fire they'd had from the get go. Soon after, they split up. Some members would go on to form The International Noise Conspiracy, and Dennis Lyxzén continued to rule as a wild and energetic frontman. Then in 2012 they reformed and that was that year I invited Dennis in to Take 5 with some of the most memorable moments from Refused's history. AC/DC - ‘Back in Black' Slayer - ‘Raining Blood' Off! -'I Don't Belong' The Stooges - ‘TV Eye' Feist - ‘The Bad in Each Other'

This is it. Time to talk about what records we actually picked and why we picked them. Chris decides to tackle his youthful enjoyment of far left cliches by choosing a record he adores, by a band whose politics he has grown to have serious questions about, in The (International) Noise Conspiracy’s second album ‘A New Morning, Changing Weather’. Whilst Weaver goes for Rage Against the Machines final album ‘Renegades’, because what’s better than a left wing band who paints in broad-strokes to really set the teenage sociopolitical heart ablaze? Mark opts for ‘Pick a Bigger Weapon’ by The Coup, whose sole remaining original member is well known for his activism, outspoken socialism, incisive wit and general love for all things funky. Which is the best? You decide.

This week Tony Foresta vocalist of Iron Reagan/Municipal Waste is our guest. We talk about Iron Reagan's new EP Dark Days Ahead, working at a t-shirt printing factory in the early days of Municipal Waste, his affinity for playing shows with pop punk bands, the never ending meme thread that he has on his phone, a prank he pulled on Earache Records when Municipal Waste first signed to the label, and the mystery of The (International) Noise Conspiracy banner in Iron Reagan's rehearsal space. Petar and Brandon discuss the amazing story of Shaggy 2 Dope's drop-kick attempt on Fred Durst, DJ Lethal's poetic and profound response on Instagram, and the finale we all wanted when The Iron Sheik brokered a truce. We also discuss the return of a little thing called Woodstock. Songs: Iron Reagan - “Patronizer” Iron Reagan - “The Devastation”

New Noise. On this episode we speak to Dennis Lyxzén the musician best known as the lead vocalist for Swedish hardcore punk band Refused. He is currently the vocalist in INVSN. Aside from Refused, he has been involved in numerous Swedish bands during his musical career, acting as vocalist, bass player, or guitar player. Since the break-up of Refused, his most notable bands have been The (International) Noise Conspiracy and Invasionen (Previously called The Lost Patrol Band). Lyxzén also runs Ny Våg, a punk record label. He acted as producer of the 2005 self-titled album by Swedish punk band Regulations, which was released on the label. As a punk rock frontman, Lyxzén's songs are of a counter-culture nature, within line of his socialist political views. Despite his political views, he tends to maintain a level of lyrical variety throughout his various bands. Lyxzén was voted sexiest man in Sweden in 2004 by Elle Magazine and is also vegan. In 2011, Lyxzén joined The Bloody Beetroots for their Church of Noise tour as a guest vocalist. Lyxzén is also featured in their newest single, "Church of Noise", and the accompanying music video. In 2012 it was announced that Refused would reunite for Coachella, Way Out West Festival and Fun Fun Fun Fest 2012. They went on to headline Groezrock 2012 in Meerhout, Belgium. Although Refused stated in 2012 that their reunion was only temporary, in 2015 they released their fourth studio album Freedom. Refused have continued to tour to promote Freedom. Dennis has stated that Refused will continue as an active band, "We’re not breaking up or anything, we’re taking a break to write a new record… Please support the Mark and Me Podcast here https://www.patreon.com/Markandme

Candid and honest, Dennis holds back nothing in this must listen episode. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
