On episode thirty-seven of Mindful Warrior Radio, I host Marina Mayer, Co-CEO & Founder of SWAY, a firm dedicated to building resilience in organizations with bodies in mind. With 18 years of experience in multidisciplinary environments, Marina is an Organizational Development and Leadership Psychologist specializing in talent strategy, executive coaching, and scaling cohesive organizations. Her award-winning research, How Movement Moves Us, explores the untapped potential of the body in facilitating the cognitive, emotional, and social processes of leadership and high performance. When asked why the body plays a critical role in leadership performance, Marina explains, “Before our brain has a chance to form a thought or generate a behavioral response, all input first enters through the body—processed by our sensory perceptions and neurons—traveling up to the brain, where it first reaches the emotional center before moving to the thinking center and finally emerging as behaviors and actions. To create true transformation and meaningful intervention, we can't separate what is inherently connected.” She further addresses the interconnection between the body, mind, and performance, “But by only talking about bodies in the space of wellness, we're essentially saying, ‘Use your brain to perform and your body to unwind.' And I think that's false. We can either try to perform by shutting down our bodies and ignoring what they need, or we can recognize our bodies as partners in performance.” Marina highlights the impact of bodily engagement in daily life, “When we sit at a computer all day without engaging the body, we miss opportunities to enhance our performance, sharpen our cognition, and enhance our connections with others.” To learn more about Mindful Warrior and Mindful Warrior Radio, follow us on Instagram @therealmindfulwarrior or visit www.mindfulwarrior.com.

I was joined by my longtime friend Jennifer Watson in studio this week, while she was in Colorado for the first stop of her Chemistry of Resilience Fall Tour. It'd been a few years since we'd seen one another, as Jennifer moved to Greenville, South Carolina to be closer to her twin sister and growing family a couple years back. Jennifer's journey is inspiring in both achievements and authenticity. An All-American athlete during her college years, she also battled depression and anxiety for years, and through a journey of exploration she began to tie together physical wellness and athletic performance to mental and emotional health. She built a physical therapy business early in her career, and grew her coaching business on this foundation of physical well-being. Jennifer is an accomplished speaker from the stage, and at times I think she forgot it was just the two of us in the studio. She used the words “you guys” enough times I couldn't help but call her out - and if you close your eyes and listen, you can imagine her on a TedX stage. And - Jennifer shares abundantly from her journey and learning, and there are a good many nuggets in this one. So please enjoy, as I did, my conversation with Jennifer Watson. In less than 20 minutes a week, we'll introduce you to an expert or business owner with deep experience in what they do. Grow you, grow your team, grow a small business. Welcome to the "Grow a Small Business" podcast with your host, Michael Denehey. In this episode, Michael interviews Paul Ross from Performance by Design, based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. In this episode of the Grow a small business podcast, Paul Ross discusses the critical role of leadership, trust, and vulnerability in building successful teams, drawing from his extensive experience in sports and business. Additionally, host Michael introduces transformative programs aimed at small business owners, including an 80-day Business Transformation program and the Ultimate Recruitment Toolkit, designed to empower managers with essential tools and strategies for team optimization and recruitment excellence. Key Takeaways for Small Business Owners: Leadership Impact: Paul emphasised the significant impact leaders have on shaping organisational culture. Their behaviours set the tone for the entire team, influencing productivity and morale. Culture Code: Defining clear behaviours aligned with organisational values is essential for creating a strong culture. It's not enough to simply state values; they must be actively lived and systemized throughout the organisation. Trust as Action: Trust is built through consistent actions over time. Paul likened it to depositing into a Trust Bank; leaders who consistently demonstrate trustworthiness fill their Trust Banks, fostering stronger relationships and collaboration. Our hero crafts outstanding reviews following the experience of listening to our special guests. Are you the one we've been waiting for? Relationship Building: Building strong relationships within the team fosters trust and enhances collaboration. Paul encouraged leaders to actively engage with team members, getting to know them beyond work-related matters. Vulnerability: Authenticity and openness contribute to building trust and stronger connections within the team. Leaders should be themselves and encourage others to do the same, fostering a culture of honesty and support. Continuous Feedback: Regular, constructive feedback is crucial for personal and organisational growth. Paul emphasised the importance of incorporating feedback into daily interactions rather than waiting for formal reviews. Do you have 2 minutes every Friday? Sign up to the Weekly Leadership Email. Tony Castillo is a leader in the wellness industry with a passion for teaching about optimizing our health and fitness. We had a lot of fun discussing the myths and misunderstandings flooding the Internet these days about health and fitness, and ways to tell the truth from the lies. Not only is Tony knowledgable, but he loves to laugh. We also shared personal stories about the pain we each experienced as fat kids in a culture that is not kind to people who carry extra weight. I learned a lot about the critical role of nutrition for optimal performance and you will, too. About Tony Castillo Tony's journey began as an overweight middle schooler and continued throughout high school until he decided to go on a “diet.” Unfortunately, this resulted in unsustainable weight loss. Tony's weight fluctuated in college due to a lack of nutrition knowledge, following fad diets, supplements that didn't work, and unsustainable habits. This inspired him to understand how nutrition played a crucial role in the human body. Today, Tony's passion is to teach others how healthy lifestyle modifications optimize performance in all areas of life. He has worked at the University of Florida and with the Toronto Blue Jays, and now focuses on helping individuals become elite performers, whether they are business owners or professional athletes. Tony graduated from Florida International University in Miami with a B.S. in Biology, B.A. in Chemistry, and an M.S. in Nutrition and Dietetics. As a Registered Dietitian credentialed by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, his unique area of expertise lies in helping individuals optimize their performance through nutrition, with a specific focus on sustainable weight management and lifestyle modifications. Tony's background in dietetics and specialization in sports nutrition has equipped him with the skills and knowledge needed to help athletes, business leaders, and anyone looking to improve their performance. As we draw to the end of 2022 and many are beginning to think about new goals, it's essential to pause and self-reflect.It's about learning, looking back on the last year (without bias or regret) to contemplate your behavior and its consequences. You can only be at the "top of your game when you learn how to engage the future from your past experiences.Humans have the propensity to use logic and reason to predict what will happen next based on what has already happened. Self-reflection helps to prevent stress and deal with surprises when our predictions are wrong, or incorrect assumptions are made.Self-reflection provides opportunities for improvement, change, innovation, communication, problem-solving, and patience.Stay Connected with MaureenWebsite: https://www.maureenchiana.comTraining Academy: https://www.themindsightacademy.comLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/maureenchiana/Articles on Brainz: https://www.brainzmagazine.com/executive-contributor/Maureen-ChianaBook A Consultation: https://calendly.com/maureen-77/30minThanks for listening.
Scott Stein joins us in this episode to discuss his newly updated book, Leadership Hacks, which now includes a comprehensive section on leading hybrid teams —something that has become a fresh challenge for a lot of organisations since the pandemic forced many of us to work remotely. Nuggets of gold: 1. Always remember the three types of activity (i.e. work activity, recharge activity, relax activity), this ensures productivity and avoids burnout. 2. Be clear about how you want to lead 3. Anywhere you go, anyone you meet, increase the use of visuals to help others easily understand your message Read the complete show notes here: http://www.teams.guru/podcast/episode-186-scott-stein/

Andrew Mawson and Thiago Kiwi discuss how leadership has changed, how leaders can make virtual models work better, mental health and productivity, and some leadership challenges of the future.
In today's brave new world, the leadership competencies that got the job done in the past are proving to be inadequate. Gone are the days when get the job done by focusing on shareholder value was the measurement of leadership success. Now leaders need to consider employee growth, retention and creating a work environment that fosters learning and growth. But where do these new competencies come from, and as learning leaders how do we begin to think about them and help our leaders grow so they can develop those who serve below them. This week the NERDS are joined by Mathew Taylor. Matt leads the Noble Story Group, a consulting firm that brings an emotional intelligence-based approach to leadership development in education and non-profit organizations. And he discusses how a change in mindset can equip leaders to be successful in today's climate. In your leadership role, you may lose sight about what's happening around you, especially if you tend to insulate yourself or get caught up in the “busyness.” Or you may worry too much about your own performance or what people think about you. But leadership is ultimately about elevating others. It requires standing tall in your own way and keeping the focus on your team--through many ups and downs. The journey is much like an elevator ride. Find the full show notes at: https: //workmatters.com/Jazz-it-Up-Elevating-Your-Leadership-Performance

We often promote the importance of developing leadership skills within organizations and communities, but have little to no evidence to quantify the value of leadership development programs or the performance of leaders who have been developed. In this episode of the Leadership Genius podcast we address the challenge of measuring, not only the effectiveness of Leadership Development programs, but leadership performance in general. How do you measure the success of training leadership development programs and the impact they have on leadership performance, as well as the health and vitality of the organization. Our guest for this co-created Better World Leaders conversation is Karren Jensen. Karren is a female CEO of a tech company who's over 50 and raised 4 children! We reflect on her journey to get here, and hope that sharing Karren's story will inspire a whole range of entrepreneurs, leaders, women, girls and older generations to continue to strive to bring their greatest ideas to life. For Karren, leadership is a great privilege and as leaders it is our responsibility to support all our people to feel cared for and respected. She has seen time and time again, when we get that right, staff take great care and responsibility for the people in their care - your clients, providing them with the best experiences and services that surpass expectations. Her company, Conductor, is leading the way connecting people and business performance in organisations so leaders can see for themselves what they can and should be doing to support the people in their care, and seeing how it improves their bottom-line performance.Key out-takes from this episodeInclusion:Inequality removes people from the opportunity to explore their true potentialAsk yourself whether you feel included, a sense of belonging, access to equal opportunities, fair treatment, the ability to make decisions and to disagree with those whose opinions are dominantTo be innovative, we can't just hear from leaders, we need to hear from everyoneChanging demands on leaders:Leaders are trying to navigate a whole new way of leading, without the tools to do soLeaders need to understand the issues, know how to come at the issue themselves, and what will the impact be on the organisation as they doLeaders need to be aware that people are reading the unintended consequences from intentions much more easily these daysMany more people are willing to put their hand up and say ‘that's not right'Trust & Teams:The key to teams is trust and communicationYou cannot retain good staff if employees don't trust the organisation, don't trust their colleagues and don't trust their managerThe health of your organisation is linked to the health of your teamsYou cannot have a healthy organisation if you do not have healthy teamsYou can't influence anyone if they don't trust youPurpose and valuesDon't give up on those niggling things that you have an ache to changeIn their heart most leaders have the same ache as most of us, which is to make a difference to others, yet they are often trapped between the demands of business performance and supporting their staff. It is not a zero sum game...we need to support leaders with the key knowledge they need now, to achieve both business performance and the growth and success of their staff.Ask yourself whether the vision and values of your organisation are permeating all the way down through the organisation?Leading ChangeIn any situation where you are courageous enough to really look at yourself lies great opportunityYou cannot change what you cannot seeIt takes preparedness to create an organisation that can look at itself and learnIf you're not comfortable to do this, you have an organisation which is not psychologically safe and you are losing revenue.Karren and I look forward to sharing this chapter of the Better World Leaders journey with you. This week I spoke with Dr. John Hagelin! John is a quantum physicist, public policy expert, President of the David Lynch Foundation and Chair of the Center for Leadership Performance. For the past 25 years he has been leading a scientific investigation into the foundations of human consciousness and is one of the world’s pre-eminent researchers on the effects of meditation on brain development, and the use of meditation to address critical problems in the field of education, rehabilitation, crime, social violence, and post-traumatic stress. Dr Hagelin teaches the doctoral program in physics at the Maharishi International University. This is a very in depth conversation that marries the scientific world view with the spiritual. A fascinating, if sometimes challenging, but rewarding listen!

Today I welcome Bob Roth to the podcast. He has been teaching transcendental meditation for the past 45 years, and currently serves as the CEO of the David Lynch Foundation. Bob is also the author of the 2018 New York Times Bestseller Strength in Stillness. I used to be so-so about meditation and had actually tried several different types – but none of them seemed to stick. When I found TM I loved how easy it was and how calm I felt when done mediatating. Tune in for a science-packed episode on why and how TM works, what the genius lounge is, and new, compelling reasons to get 20 minutes of meditation in, every day. Tips, and why TM makes a difference There are three different kinds of meditation and they yield different results — Bob Roth explains focused attention (Gamma brain waves), open monitoring (Theta brain waves), and self-transcending (Alpha 1 brain waves). Dropping the disorder from Post-Traumatic Stress. PTS leads to insomnia, hyperarousal, anxiety, and chronic depression. And it isn’t only generated through combat. TM reboots your prefrontal cortex. When stress activates the fight-or-flight response, your amygdala shuts off your prefrontal cortex. This means you can no longer access executive functions (planning ahead, judgment, sense of self, etc.) There are 1,440 minutes in a day — Try waking up 25 minutes early in the morning to get your mediation in. Access your genius lounge — Creativity isn’t just art, it is the ability to come up with creative solutions to seemingly intractable problems and it is the product of three distinct networks in the brain: the executive control center, the default mode network, and the salient network. Episode #44 // One of the most important roles that a leader plays is to set the right standards for performance and behaviour in their organisation; an aspirational standard to which they expect their people to rise.Often, we think we are setting a high standard of performance, but it is the exceptions that we make that tell people what the real standard actually is.How do you make the standard that people must reach abundantly clear, and then ensure that it is carried through your team from top to bottom? This episode explores the aspiration of setting new, higher standards, and the key mistakes we make as leaders to unwittingly erode them.To get the free PDF download that goes with this episode, head to www.yourceomentor.com/episode44

If you're an aspiring, emerging, or accomplished leader, this MOORE leadership moment is for you! Let's start with this question: Are you an effective leader? Well, here's how I know… #YourLeadershipGuide,KimLead ConfidentlyExpand InfluenceAchieve Significance"Drop me a text now—I'd love to hear from you!" “When students are led well, they learn well.”Website: http://www.kimdmoore.comLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kimdmooreYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@EducationalLeaderThe views shared in the Educational Leadership Moment are solely mine and do not reflect the positions of my employer or any entity within the local, state, or federal government sectors.
Episode #26 // This week is Part Two of The Roadmap to Exceptional Leadership!I've taken my 30+ years of practical leadership experience, a LOT of trial and error and lessons from some incredible mentors, and have distilled these learnings into a model, my 'secret sauce'; the 7 Pillars of Leadership Performance, and this is what today’s episode is all about! These 7 pillars are designed to unlock the real, practical strategies and focus areas that we believe will make or break your leadership journey. These are the things that, in my experience, differentiate leaders from the incompetent, through the mediocre, to the great. In this episode I talk through the 7 Pillars of Leadership Performance in detail, covering why I believe they are so important, and what you can do to develop yourself in each of the below pillars:Deliver Value - This is the object of the exercise and this is where it all begins and ends for a leader, with a value creationHandle Conflict - Conflict aversion is one of the biggest career killers and it will basically dilute your effectiveness in pretty much everything you do as a leaderBuild Resilience - As we know, anyone can hold the helm when the sea is calm. You don't find out what a leader is made of until they're put under pressure and many leaders foldWork at Level - It's so common to see leaders through all levels of an organisation working at the wrong level, sub-optimising their performance and effectively crippling their peopleMaster Ambiguity - One of the foremost jobs of a leader is to sit comfortably in ambiguity and to translate that into certainty of direction and action for their peopleDrive Accountability - If you want your people to execute well, nothing enables this more than clear, well-defined, single point accountabilities.Make Great Decisions - Leaders get paid the dizzy dollars to make hard calls and being a leader who can make timely, well-informed decisions, will put your team and organisation in a winning position.Together these 7 Pillars of Leadership Performance are what make up our online leadership program, Leadership Beyond the Theory, and hopefully you can see after this episode why that is!Enrolment for the program closes tomorrow, but we’ll be opening doors again in June for a mid-year cohort!Check out more details on the program at courses.yourceomentor.com
Episode #25 // This week’s episode is a big one! Once again I've developed a two part episode to deal with what I think is one of our larger topics, The Roadmap to Exceptional Leadership. Shoehorning this topic into a couple of brief podcast episodes is going to be tricky, but I am up for the challenge! This week in part one, we'll start by looking at common leadership attributes and competencies, the best place to start when we’re defining what an ‘exceptional leader’ actually is, without all the fluff! In this episode I’ll cover:The ideal leadership attributes that we so often hear are ‘important’, but are also strangely intangibleThe difference that personal perspective makes in creating meaning around leadership attributesAn example of how when I was CEO of CS Energy, I used key descriptors to explain certain attributes to my organisation, providing greater understanding of what behaviour I expectedWhy I think that leadership competencies are far more tangible (and relevant) than leadership attributesSome of the competencies of senior leadership that I learned from my time at Harvard Business School - you can download these competencies for free at www.yourceomentor.com/episode25 to self-evaluate, and evaluate those in your teamI’ll touch on The 7 Pillars of Leadership Performance which will give you an insight into next week’s episode where I’ll give away my ‘secret sauce' to becoming an exceptional leader! My hope is that this episode gets you thinking about what leadership attributes and competencies you currently have, and which ones you want to develop. Becoming an exceptional leader takes time, patience, discipline and an unwavering commitment to improving. It’s not easy, but the payback is incalculable. If this episode has given you a new perspective on leadership, and you feel as though you want to dive deeper into what it actually takes to become an exceptional leader, I strongly encourage you to check out our 7-week online leadership program, Leadership Beyond the Theory. Enrolment is only open for another 8 days before we close the door to this cohort.I’d love to know if this has helped you reframe your perspective on what great leadership is, so please send me an email (hello@yourceomentor.com) with your feedback!

BOB ROTH is one of the most experienced and sought-after meditation leaders in America. Over the past forty-five years, Bob has taught Transcendental Meditation to thousands of people, from billionaire CEOs to combat-scarred veterans to leading figures in government, business, medicine, media, the arts, and more. He currently serves as the CEO of the David Lynch Foundation and also directs the Center for Leadership Performance. His latest book, Strength in Stillness has been on the New York Times Best Seller list for the past three weeks.
We begin our conversation with Bob joking that, as a young boy growing up in the San Francisco Bay area, he knew he was a Democrat before he knew he was Jewish. Bob was deeply influenced by Robert “Bobby” Kennedy's position as an agent of change so much so that he began working with the Kennedy campaign early in his life; and considering that Bobby Kennedy was a hero figure for Bob, Kennedy's death greatly impacted him so much so that he continued the work of activism for collective change. When he was a young man, Bob embarked on a path into education, and as a self-professed skeptic, he hesitantly began a meditation practice at 18 years old although that was soon overwhelmed by the profound experience that transcendental meditation brought into his life. With the seeds of desire to educate children, Bob began teaching and educating inner-city youth and inmates about the benefits of meditation. He has continued along this path ever since. Bob and David Lynch began the nonprofit The David Lynch Foundation and have since offered scholarships to seek to teach over one million children the transformative value of meditation. The results of these interventions are astounding. To cite one example, within a year or two, following learning meditation some of the most underperforming schools in the bay area elevated the ranks to become among some of the higher performing schools in the area. Bob discusses three forms of meditation and provides a little background on each, and expands on the practice of Transcendental Meditation. Bob draws from ancient practice to modern neuroscience to back up his claims of how revolutionary a meditation practice can be for your life – and, as he frames it, it is more accessible than you may think. ZERO EXCUSES. James Chapman joins me on the show this week. James is a former Australian Olympic Rower, he is a two-time Olympian and a silver medalist from the London Olympics. You can now find him consulting in the Leadership & Performance space at Maximus Consulting. I asked James on the show because his responses are real. He has been in the trenches, put in the decades of work and found the keys to performing in the pressure. I was excited to have James on and expect you'll enjoy his perspective. James' specific essay question was: "How do you compare the standards, effort and dedication needed at the heights of Olympic Rowing with the competitive corporate world you find yourself in now? And what specific attributes from one allow for successful leadership in the other?" We discussed performance in the business world, the inner dialogue it takes to perform and the questions you need to ask and answer of yourself in the biggest situations. Enjoy the show. Every day we face a growing epidemic of stress that is damaging to our physical and emotional health. While there is no one single cure, a simple practice dramatically changes how we respond to stress and life’s challenges: the Transcendental Meditation technique. Bob Roth, a world authority on Transcendental Meditation for forty-five years, joined us to present wisdom from his book 'Strength In Stillness: The Power of Transcendental Meditation'. He was joined onstage by Oscar-nominated filmmaker David Lynch, founder of the David Lynch Foundation for Consciousness-Based Education and World Peace. Together they outlined meditation’s scientifically proven benefits—improved focus, sleep, resilience, creativity, and memory to name a few—and demonstrated how this five-thousand-year-old technique can have a clear and direct impact on our very modern problems. They highlighted the three distinct types of meditation—focused attention, open monitoring, and self-transcending—and showcased the evidence that the third, Transcendental Meditation, is the most effective and efficient way to reduce stress, access inner power, and build resilience. Join Roth and Lynch for a simple, practical, and straightforward guide to the healing and stress-reducing potential of Transcendental Meditation. Bob Roth is one of the most experienced and sought-after meditation teachers in the world, with 45 years experience teaching Transcendental Meditation to billionaire CEOs, Hollywood celebrities, combat-scarred veterans, and inner-city youth. He currently serves as the CEO of the David Lynch Foundation, and also directs the Center for Leadership Performance. Bob is the host of the SiriusXM radio show, Success Without Stress, and speaks frequently about the science of meditation to industry leaders at such gatherings as Google Zeitgeist, Aspen Ideas Festival, Wisdom2.0, and Summit. Three-time Oscar-nominated director David Lynch is among the leading filmmakers of our era. From the early seventies to the present day, Lynch’s popular and critically acclaimed film projects, which include Eraserhead, The Elephant Man, Wild at Heart, Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive, INLAND EMPIRE, and Twin Peaks are internationally considered to have broken down the wall between art-house cinema and Hollywood moviemaking. He is founder and chairman of the Board of Trustees of the David Lynch Foundation for Consciousness-Based Education and World Peace. There’s lots of talk about IT leadership skills, but the personal energy capacity a leader needs to do it all is equally important. Even a champion marathon runner takes breaks. How can an IT leader, under the gun 24/7, maintain his/her “energy” at peak performance level? Where does he/she find the personal reserves to successfully handle stress and promote the maximum productivity of those around him/her as a successful IT leader should? What strategies can he/she use to boost energy levels and avoid becoming so exhausted as to be disorganized, burnt out, or simply inattentive?
