Say thanks and learn more about our podcast sponsor Omnisend. On this episode of the WP Minute+ Podcast, Matt chats with Toby Cryns, founder of Minneapolis-based agency The Mighty Mo!, about what it's like to run a WordPress agency for 20 years. From building sites in Flash before pivoting to WordPress after Steve Jobs' infamous “Flash is dead” moment, Toby reflects on the evolution of the web industry, the rise of page builders, and the growing influence of AI on development and client expectations.Toby shares his journey of overcoming fear around AI, his experiments with ChatGPT and Copilot, and how he's using these tools to develop a WordPress-based project management app. He discusses how the small business and nonprofit web design market is shifting, the impact of DIY platforms like Wix and Squarespace, and the growing divide between clients who want $300 websites and those who need reliable long-term partners. Through honest anecdotes and hard-earned lessons, Toby explores pricing strategies, client relationships, project management, and the power of sticking with WordPress – even amid uncertainty in the ecosystem.Key TakeawaysAI and WordPress Development:AI is useful as a junior-level coding assistant but still requires deep domain knowledge.Tools like ChatGPT and Copilot have saved Toby hundreds of hours on plugin development.AI won't replace agencies but it will change workflows and create new opportunities.Adapting to Market Shifts:The entry-level web market is increasingly lost to AI and DIY tools.High-end clients may be exploring prototyping internally before approaching agencies.Adaptation is key: agencies that don't evolve risk becoming obsolete.Running a Sustainable WordPress Agency:Project managers and account managers are game changers for scaling without burnout.WordPress plugins like Beaver Builder and services like ManageWP streamline delivery and maintenance.Raising prices (even a little) can be a healthy, overdue adjustment.Community and the Future of WordPress:Despite recent governance controversies, Toby remains hopeful about the WordPress community. The community is WordPress' greatest asset – leaders must help rebuild trust and direction.Gutenberg may yet become the publishing backbone of the modern web.Important LinksThe WP Minute+ Podcast: thewpminute.com/subscribeVisit Toby's Agency: https://themightymo.com/Connect with Toby on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/tobycryns Support us for as little as $5 to join our members-only Slack group. ★ Support this podcast ★

The biggest challenges for many of us is either getting and keeping momentum, or having momentum, but that it's going in the opposite direction – downward momentum. For the latter, it's like having one foot on the gas and one foot on the brake. We have a downward pull, and then we're simultaneously having upward pull. If you're driving and pushing to make stuff happen in your life, it's because you've got momentum going in two directions. The worst thing that we try to do when we're pushing and pushing is to push more, or push harder, at least in same the way that we've been pushing. We must notice where is the momentum going in the opposite direction. This is one of the deeper esoteric meanings of the Biblical statement, “Where two or more are gathered in agreement, there I am in the midst of them.” The two or more can certainly be two or more people as in a church, organization, spiritual organization, but it also represents the two or more aspects of ourselves – the conscious, the unconscious, the mental, emotional, physical. When all of those are in agreement, moving in the same direction, then you activate the larger pattern of your potential, and you have real momentum. At the most simplest level, how you get the Mighty Mo is to start moving… Move yourself emotionally, move yourself mentally, move yourself spiritually, and move yourself physically – you can always move no matter what, no matter who you are. To support you in mastering this, listen to the in-depth podcast on the subject, where we break it down and put it into real-life practice TODAY. This will be a real game-changer. GDP Script/ Top Stories for Wednesday Aug. 9 Publish Date: Tuesday Aug. 8 From the Henssler Financial Studio Welcome to the Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast Today is Wednesday August 9th , and happy 56th birthday to “primetime” Deion Sanders ****Sanders**** I'm Bruce Jenkins and here are your top stories presented by Mall of Georgia Chrysler Dodge Jeep 1. Georgia awards $2 billion for transportation projects in fiscal 2023 2. State lawmakers might act on property tax increases 3. And Gwinnett's new pro volleyball team named Atlanta Vibe Plus, Leah McGrath of Ingles Markets talks with us about plant based meats All of this and more is coming up on the Gwinnett Daily Post podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen daily and subscribe! Break 1 : M.O.G. Story 1. Transportation Earlier this summer, the Georgia Department of Transportation awarded $172.6 million for 27 road projects in the state. However, closer scrutiny suggests the actual amount awarded may be over $197.1 million. The largest project, awarded to McLendon Enterprises, totaled $58.6 million for a Toombs County reconstruction project. State officials reported that reconstruction projects accounted for 35% of the funds awarded. Additionally, about 26% went to construction projects, 19% to bridge construction, 18% to safety initiatives, and 2% to bridge rehabilitation. Inflation has previously increased project costs, leading to project rejections or deferrals..……………. read more on this at gwinnettdailypost.com STORY 2: tax Georgia Governor Brian Kemp signed House Bills 118 and 622 to triple Bartow County's homestead tax exemptions, but property taxes have increased across the state. State Representative Matthew Gambill discussed efforts to address rising property taxes. The state provided a property tax relief grant, but its continuation is uncertain. Gambill acknowledged the challenges faced by fixed-income property owners and encouraged appealing property valuations or managing mortgage payments. He also mentioned discussions about finding equitable ways for cities and counties to fund themselves beyond property taxes. The conversation includes exploring alternatives like eliminating the state income tax and adopting a broad but low tax approach, which will likely be addressed in the upcoming legislative session. Story 3: vibe The Atlanta Vibe has been revealed as the official name of the city's professional women's volleyball team, part of the Pro Volleyball Federation. The team will play their home games at Gas South Arena in Gwinnett County, with seating for over 10,000 spectators. The name reflects the city's energy and culture, with red and ice blue as primary colors to symbolize power and modernity. The logo integrates the 'A' for Atlanta and the letter 'V' for vibe, with intertwining branches resembling highways and communities. The team is one of the inaugural seven in the Professional Volleyball Federation's 2024 season, aiming to provide a professional experience for players and fans alike. The films include a "Frozen" sing-along, "Twilight," "The Sandlot," "The Wiz," and "Star Wars: Return of the Jedi." Each film screening includes pre-show entertainment like sing-alongs, vintage cartoons, and performances on the iconic "Mighty Mo" organ. The Marquee Club presented by Lexus offers a premium experience with early entry, themed food and drinks, rooftop access, and family-friendly activities. Film tours and tickets are available for purchase on the Fox Theatre website. Story 5: disc J.P. Burns, a former student of Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology, discovered his passion for ultimate disc during high school and college. Now a defensive captain for the Atlanta Hustle in the American Ultimate Disc League (AUDL), Burns is a key player on the 10-2 South Division team. The Hustle earned a spot in the AUDL playoffs, hosting their first-ever playoff game on August 11. Ultimate is a sport similar to football and basketball, involving throwing and passing the disc to advance, and Burns's role has been crucial to the team's performance. The Hustle's playoff journey aims to advance them further in the championship rounds. Story 6: greene Justin Greene, a talented high school football player from Mountain View, made the decision to stop wrestling during his sophomore year to focus on his future in college football. This allowed him to gain weight and transform from a lean defensive end to a formidable powerhouse. Greene's commitment to the sport paid off, as he gained over 40 pounds in just a few months and improved his performance on the field. This transformation caught the attention of college coaches, and he eventually committed to playing for the University of Georgia. Narrated by Country Music's number one recording star, Luke Bryan. On September 2nd, 1945, World War II came to its official end aboard a legendary battleship anchored in Tokyo Bay. Some seventy million people had died during the war, but now the fighting would end not with a rifle shot but rather with the swift stroke of a ceremonial pen. The USS Missouri hadn't been in the fight long, heading into the Pacific theater of war in 1944, but she would become one of the most famous military ships in history when all was said and done. “Mighty Mo” had been involved in the vicious fight at Iwo Jima and then headed for Okinawa, where she dodged suicidal Kamikaze air attacks during World War II's last great battle. Missouri then would bomb Japan before being told to leave the coast for no apparent reason. The reason turned out to be two Atomic bombs that were set to be dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The official surrender ceremony on the USS Missouri would attract a world-wide radio audience with famous Pacific commanding General Douglas MacArthur handling the Instrument of Surrender proceedings. Over 3,000 soldiers and dignitaries looked on from every inch of Missouri's decks, including a small delegation of conquered Japanese. World War II was finally over. Peace. Why was the USS Missouri chosen as the ship the formal surrender would take place? President Harry S. Truman had something to do with that. What happened immediately after the signing that left so many in complete awe? What is Mighty Mo's legacy today at Pearl Harbor, where she rests not far from another famous battleship, the USS Arizona? Are there veterans still alive who were there to witness the Japanese surrender ending the war? Surrender on the USS Missouri answers those questions and more. As General MacArthur famously said at the end of the surrender ceremony: “These proceedings are now closed.” However, the story of the USS Missouri never really ended and is still being told today.

All about being a Yo-yo Pro in the 80s and 90s. How and why it came to be, and why it all ended. We all have a journey and this was a major part of Mo's. The episode ends with the song, "Mighty Mo the Yo-yo Pro," written about him by friend, writer and performer, Barry Ebert. The song alone is worth listening to Mo ramble.

It wasn't the fairy tale ending we all hoped for. Tony Bellew bowed out at the weekend with a defeat to a guy that will go on to be one of the greats of this generation. Oleksandr Usyk is the real deal and the biggest threat to the AJ throne. As well as Bellew's last dance, we look ahead to Mighty Mo being back in action this weekend, which leads to the usual spunky conversation! *Please leave a review on iTunes http://apple.co/2wijpC1 *Follow us on Facebook www.facebook.com/fightdisciples *Follow us on Twitter www.twitter.com/fightdisciples *Follow us on Instagram www.instagram.com/fightdisciples *Subscribe on YouTube www.youtube.com/fightdisciples #BOXING #WBSS #BELLEW #USYK #USYKBELLEW
The battle is about to begin! This week: an extended episode in which we have guests! Stefan White and Steven Fuller from Kansas City's Friends of the River join us to talk about the upcoming attempt to set the world record for the "Largest Lightsaber Battle in the World" -- complete with representatives from Guiness World Records! On May 6th, over ten thousand people will gather on the shores of the Mighty Mo, the Missouri River, to wage the largest lightsaber battle ever. Many groups have been large, but this is the first attempt to set a world record. More importantly, it's a chance to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Center at Children's Mercy Hospital here in Kansas City (http://www.childrensmercy.org). May is also Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month, and this is a chance to raise money for ongoing research to help kids live long enough to receive lung transplants so that they can live into adulthood. Longest in the US, muddy-waters famous for music-inspiring - and one of the most-altered rivers on Earth. We humans have channelized, narrowed and straightened the Missouri almost (not quite) beyond recognition. With enough River Issues to float a boat, we STILL have opportunities to protect and in some spots even restore health to the Mighty MO. Greg Poleski, VP of Greenway Network, works on river issues by leading paddling outings on "water trails," leading river clean-ups, and organizing public education events. Brad Walker, River Director for the Missouri Coalition for the Environment, works with legal, legislative, public education and other means to protect the Missouri from further degradation. LEARN MORE at River Soundings - a free panel discussion of Missouri River issues. Wednesday February 22, 5:30-8 p.m. Visitor Center in Forest Park. Panelists Tony Messenger, Brad Walker and Dr. Robert Criss, moderated by Jean Ponzi from KDHX. Music: Big Piney Blues, performed live at KDHX by Brian Curran, December 2003 THANKS to Josh Nothum, Earthworms engineer. Yes, Chita Rivera! Roscoe and Gary sit down with the musical theatre legend in her room at the Carlyle Hotel for an intimate chat about dance, her career, Kander & Ebb, and a host of other engaging topics. The two-time Tony Award winner - for The Rink and Kiss of the Spider Woman - has been nominated a record 10 times for that prestigious award. A native of Washington, DC, Chita began her professional life as a dancer with George Balanchine's School of American Ballet. In 1951, she was cast in her first theatrical role in the touring company of Call Me Madam. Chita was 17. She subsequently landed roles in the Broadway productions of Guys and Dolls, Can-Can, Seventh Heaven and Mr. Wonderful starring Sammy Davis Jr. Ms. Rivera achieved Broadway stardom with her electric performance of Anita in the original Broadway presentation of West Side Story, directed and choreographed by Jerome Robbins. Other important Broadway roles were in Bye Bye Birdie, Chicago, Jerry's Girls, Nine, The Visit, and Chita Rivera: A Dancer's Life. In 2002, Chita became the first Hispanic woman ever chosen to receive the coveted Kennedy Center Honor. And in 2009, President Barack Obama awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Visit her website at www.chitarivera.com. Learn more about Chita's amazing career here. A great interview with a great lady! Huge special thanks to Robbie and Rosie!!! Booth One experience alert - while in New York, Gary and Roscoe miraculously manage to snag two tickets to see.....yes, Hamilton!! Don't ask how, it's a long story. Involving Gary's past life as a Broadway stage manager. Suffice it to say they were wowed beyond belief by their luck, and agree that's it's a good as everyone says. Gary says you will never see a better musical. Roscoe praises the genius of Lin-Manuel Miranda and the seamless integration of music, lyrics, dance, lighting, sound and scenic design. You owe it to yourself to see this show no matter what it takes! Check out Hamilton's website. Kiss of Death - Joe Patten, Known as the "Phantom of the Fox". For more than 50 years, Mr. Patten worked tirelessly to restore and maintain Atlanta's historic Fox Theater. From saving the massive pipe organ (lovingly called "Mighty Mo" by Atlantans) to rescuing the theater itself from the wrecking ball, Joe became as revered a fixture of the city's cultural life as the theater itself. For decades, Mr. Patten lived in a 3,640-square-foot apartment under the theater's dome, reached by climbing a "cinematically appropriate 39 steps." Our favorite obit writer, Margalit Fox of the New York Times, beautifully chronicles the extraordinary life of this supremely gifted man. Read her full obituary in the New York Times.
