She opens up about her journey alongside her husband as they navigated mental health challenges. Their story is one of resilience and joy as they navigate the demands of the ranching world, raise their children, and foster a love for rodeo. Sarah's delightful account of their balanced yet bustling lifestyle offers both inspiration and insight. We also delve into the significant role of support systems for rodeo families, with Western Sports Foundation standing out as a beacon of support and community resources. Our conversation touches on a personal connection to rodeo, spotlighting the transition from bull riding to breeding and the challenges faced along the way. These narratives weave together to celebrate the courage to seek help and the transformative power of a strong support network. Through this episode, we explore the complexities of navigating mental health challenges within the Western lifestyle. Through Dave's story, we uncover the journey of seeking relief from the stress of managing a life after rodeo, where medication and counseling played crucial roles. His path to finding hope and relief is a testament to the power of community support and open communication. By embracing vulnerability and reaching out for support, individuals and families can foster positive changes within themselves and their communities.

When a child has a serious breathing problem at home, paramedics have limited options. But a new study, guided by Sarah Becker, DO, wants to see if special hospital medicines can work outside the hospital. Dr. Becker explains the Salt Lake City T-RECS Study and the good and not-so-good aspects, allowing parents to make the best decision for their child's health. A couple months ago, I got really anxious about income. Aside from ~lite paranoia~ being one of the core tenets of my personality, my concern was (probably) justified. Rumblings of a recession on the horizon, #stonks going down, and the fact that Money with Katie was my sole source of income started to make me feel a little…vulnerable. So I started looking into alternative investments. While I deeply considered real estate and passed for the time being, I discovered an amazing world of online content around buying small businesses and began my pursuit. This episode dives into where I looked, what I found, the two businesses I almost bought, and why I didn't pull the trigger. Plus, two interviews: One with Sarah Becker, a friend of mine who bought a dilapidated commercial property in her neighborhood when she was 24, and another with Steffany Boldrini, a successful investor in the self-storage space. Sarah's new course, Independent Retirement Academy, launched on May 23. Listeners of Money with Katie get $50 off with code MWK50. Follow Along Blog Instagram Twitter
We've all been there: you show up to closing and meet the co-op agent only to be faced with someone you don't recognize who is nearly 30 years older than their “current” real estate photo. This has been a running joke in the industry for years, and it's funny because it's true. In today's conversation we call in our favorite brand photographer(and money guru), Sarah Becker, to help us take our business photography to another level. Agents are their brand and need to have images for business cards, websites, email signatures, signs and most importantly, social media. Listen in for the big “no-no's” when it comes to headshots and get some better alternatives as far as posing goes. Sarah gives us great tips on choosing a photographer, location, outfits and even props for a photoshoot. She also gives some great tips if you don't have the budget for a photographer yet and want to take killer photos yourself. So much practical advice in one episode! Sarah Becker is a photographer in the New Orleans area and you can find her on social media, @SarahBeckerphoto.
Our episode this month is about energy justice. The energy price crisis in the UK and beyond, means many more households will find themselves in fuel poverty - meaning they find it unaffordable to heat their homes to a safe and healthy level. In 2019, 3.5 million households in the UK were considered fuel poor and this is likely to have increased significantly as a result of the pandemic and energy crisis. How do we address this from a justice perspective? Our guests for this episode is Sarah Becker and Prof. Aimee Ambrose.
What better topic for tax day than digging in and talking about money?! Sarah Becker from the “Becker Talks Money” podcast joins us to help remove the stigma and confusion around talking about money. As entrepreneurs in a career with so much uncertainty, financial planning can be very scary. We tackle entry level retirement investing and talk about what it really means to diversify. Sarah shares with us keys to budget planning when you aren't quite sure when your next paycheck will show up. Historically women have shied away from talking about and taking control of their financial life and Sarah is breaking down those walls for us. As with so many of our topics the underlying problem when it comes to finances is usually mindset and education. Come listen in on a great conversation about taking charge of your finances and your life. Find Sarah Becker on social media @beckertalksmoney and @sarahbeckerphoto. About Sarah: After 10 years as a wedding photographer, real estate investor and small business owner, Sarah Becker kept hearing the same story from her friends over and over again. While outwardly successful in their businesses, they were utterly failing in their financial goals - if they even had financial goals. So, she started asking every business woman she knew about their money. Along the way, she learned that only 2% of the female entrepreneurs in her network were happy with the state of their finances. Sarah believes that money doesn't have to be scary, that curiosity is more important than correctness and that everyone can become an expert of their own money with a little help. When she's not crunching numbers, you can find her renovating a river cabin with her partner Barry, taking her dachshund Gus for a long morning walk, and planning to have Asian food for dinner (again). A family business is a great way to build intergenerational wealth but by nature they're a bloody tricky beast. We have all heard the horror stories of families that had built successful intergenerational businesses only to deteriorate into squabbles and eventually total breakdown. Not only is all that wealth squandered, but opportunities for future generations are lost, and family relationships are permanently damaged. It is rarely due to a one-off event. More often it is owing to a series of cascading incidents over the very long term and through the generations.I noticed throughout my career that two of the major contributors are poor communication and the lack of effective planning. Another is how to integrate and involve the next generation successfully in the family business, particularly when there are multiple children. I have had many conversations with families who have children who want to come back to be involved in the family farm or business but struggle to find a way to structure it.But there are success stories out there and what we often forget is that they faced the exact same issues that all family businesses face. No family business is immune. The difference being that they confronted the problems head on and managed to resolve the issues which is why they are where they are today. Our guest today is Sarah Becker. Sarah is one of the young, smart, and driven success stories. She is well known and actively involved in the rural community, she's a Mum to an energetic young boy, she is a Chartered Accountant, a trusted adviser to many successful rural families and she is a significant part of the family grazing business and accounting practice based in Central Queensland. If you're involved in a family farm or business or have kids that have come back or want to come back and join the family business, you need to hear what Sarah has to say today. You can find Sarah online at:Website: https://www.beckerco.com.auFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/BeckerandCoQldInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/beckerandcoqld/-----------------------Ben spent over 20 years working with successful business owners and farming families which allowed him to unearth the timeless principles on how to successfully grow, protect and maintain wealth. If you want to learn the principles of how to grow your family's wealth throughout the generations, then you might consider joining The Financial Bloke each fortnight for more Wealth & Wisdom.Disclaimer: The information contained in this podcast is general in nature and for education purposes only. Episode 307: 4 More Business Junk Drawers to Organize with Sarah Becker The Process Ninja, Sarah Becker, is back, adding four more business junk drawers to organize. Yes, we have seven total business junk drawers that cause us stress and need our thoughtful attention. Crisis-to-crisis leadership is the consequence of ignoring or not taking charge of these business junk drawers. Severe criticism can accompany our lack of astuteness, along with added pressure and disgruntled co-workers and employees. Here is an incentive to take charge of your business junk drawers. What if addressing four more business junk drawers reduced errors and increased profit margins, plus provided you the time to scale your business with greater peace of mind and confidence? What if your employees could cut their jobs from 40 hours a week to 20 hours like Sarah did when she worked at Target Corporation for six years before founding Clear Simple Business, LLC in 2016? Surprising outcomes can be discovered when you take charge of your business junk drawers. Sarah also started a family as she became a new business owner. That takes a level of organizational fortitude begetting a Process Ninja title. Cody is now 8 years old, and Hannah is 6. They both love hockey, like their parents. I appreciate how Sarah works her schedule and gets virtual assistance (Angie Glotzbach) to keep on top of her business junk drawers. I start with a brief review of the first three business junk drawers: financial anything, customer service issues, and quality assurance. We then add four more business junk drawers listed below. These take a little longer to describe but are worth hearing the Process Ninja's investigative explanation and solutions to manage them. Episode 306: 3 Business Junk Drawers to Organize with Sarah Becker New Year. New Inspiration to Organize. What do you do with tasks, chores, problems, and issues that cause worry but you don't have time to address? Do you put them in a ‘business junk drawer,' hoping to get to them after the volcano stops erupting with daily emergencies? Today we will get ideas about organizing three business junk drawers from Sarah Becker, founder and Process Ninja of Clear Simple Business, LLC. When I think of a junk drawer, I think of stuff placed in a drawer to be forgotten about. Unused stuff that I don't have any other home or spot to put it. Actually, I have a junk closet where I stuff decorative boxes, both small and large, ribbons, wrapping paper, fun bags, and tissue paper. You wouldn't be alone in thinking it is a waste of space. I agree, but I can't seem to give up the space for another purpose. Unless I stop giving gifts. I just did the annual organization of the closet and threw out a bunch of stuff. It felt great. A junk drawer usually doesn't cause much stress as a business junk drawer can. Even though junk drawers don't necessarily disappear, there are ways you can deal with them to relieve stress, save time, and increase profitability. In business, we have metaphorical junk drawers that cause us and others anxiety and lead to inefficiencies in our businesses. Sarah calls the first one our Financial Anything junk drawer. This business junk drawer is about tracking and processing money going in and out of the business; and how those processes allow or hinder growth. Processes we start with aren't necessarily the processes or the software that will support the next company growth spurt. We consider the length of time it takes for business owners to make financial decisions. Only your bookkeeper knows for sure. Sarah has lots of ideas here. Find out the customer service areas like speed and quality you can organize and update in the #2 Customer Service business junk drawer. The #3 business junk drawer is Quality Assurance. Become aware of what needs thinking through before hiring more people. Sarah works with businesses employing 10 to 300 people. She has many examples of how many days, hours, and work weeks she has saved companies, working her way out of jobs. Sarah's inspiration comes from being raised by two highly efficient computer programmers. And, maybe playing hockey for the College of St. Benedict shaped her unique perspective and ability to know her competition. Could it be that completing her MBA coursework in London and Thailand expanded her business savvy, widening her perspective of business cultural practices and boosting her business competence? How about working at Target honing her Process Ninja investigative skills and applying her unique expertise in saving Target and other companies time, valuing talent, and improving profit margins? These experiences and skills are integrated with Sarah's aspirations: to help clarify and simplify how you do business and make money. Use our conversation to get inspired and lower your stress and the stress of those you employ by tackling one or all three business junk drawers we discuss. Next week we will introduce four more business junk drawers to facilitate how you efficiently run your business, so get started by addressing those junk drawers this week. Aurelio Montemayor has been organizing parents for decades. His work at the Intercultural Research Development Association, or IDRA, as a family engagement coordinator has focused on a specific type of parent engagement, known as parent empowerment. He defines the four ways parents are typically engaged in schools as:As free labor and fundraisers.Through education programs designed to help improve parentingThrough education programs designed for self improvementThrough meaningful parent / caregiver empowermentThis fourth form of parent engagement - parent empowerment, is the only form that he believes leads to school wide improvement for all kids. When done well, it can serve as an important tool for equity, but it requires that all parents feel empowered.I'm joined by parent board member, Sarah Becker, to discuss what this looks like in practice, and how people with racial or economic privilege, who often enter schools with outsized empowerment, can act as allies.LINKS:Intercultural Research Development AssociationChicano MovementNo Child Left BehindWhen Middle-Class Parents Choose Urban Schools: Class, Race, and the Challenge of Equity in Public Education by Lynn Posey-MaddoxDespite The Best Intentions: How Racial Inequality Thrives in Good Schools by John B. This week, Steph and Abby welcome parent, advocate, and activist, Sarah Becker. A former school psychologist, Sarah and her husband founded HISD Parent Advocates, a local organization that keeps parents in the loop on issues related to our school district, board, and policies that directly affect our kids. Sarah discusses many of the recent (and dare we say, controversial) proposals to reorganize Houston's public school system. She also describes the choice her own family made to move their children out of a highly coveted, disproportionately white (relative to HISD as a whole) magnet school and into an under-enrolled school with a primarily brown and black student population in a neighborhood with lots of poverty. For those not in Houston, the conversation is equally important as they discuss larger implications of living in a diverse country, where racial lines are still drawn when it comes to our schools. Sarah educates the ladies on the works of Nikole Hannah-Jones and the movement to integrate America's schools. It's both an important and eye-opening conversation. Join us!
