Daleee! Welcome to Director Watch! On this AwardsWatch podcast, co-hosts Ryan McQuade and Jay Ledbetter attempt to breakdown, analyze, and ultimately, get inside the mind of some of cinema's greatest auteurs. In doing so, they will look at their filmographies, explore what drives them artistically and what makes their decisionmaking process so fascinating. Add in a few silly tangents and a fun game at the end of the episode and you've got yourself a podcast we truly hope you love. On episode 122 of the Director Watch Podcast, the boys discuss the first film in their Hughes Brothers series, Menace II Society (1993). Leaving the world of Ozu, the boys return to a more contemporary setting by explore the films of Allen and Albert Hughes, identical twin brothers who became known for their bold music videos in the late 1980s, early 1990s for artists like Tone Loc and Tupac Shakur. But it was their first feature, Menace II Society, that took the world by storm as it followed the life young black men in LA trying to making it out the neighborhood they lived in, surrounded by the accepted violence that's systemic, perpetrated by a country willing to allow this section of the world fall apart from within. Released a few years after Boyz in the Hood, this is a sharper, edgier, meaner, realist look at the Watts and Crenshaw neighborhoods that we've ever seen before on screen, introducing the world to a duo of vital voices in cinema. Ryan and Jay break down their thoughts on the film, it's comparisons to other African American coming of age films made in the early 1990s, the violence found within the film, the strong directorial voices found within this debut feature, the strong cast that make up the film, and their relationship with the directors and their filmography. You can listen to the Director Watch Podcast wherever you stream podcasts, from iTunes, iHeartRadio, Soundcloud, Stitcher, Spotify, Audible, Amazon Music, YouTube and more. This podcast runs 1h53m. The guys will be back next week to continue their series on the films of the Hughes Brothers with a review of their next film, Dead Presidents. You can rent it via iTunes and Amazon Prime rental in preparation for the next episode of Director Watch. Till then, let's get into it. Cc Madhya 12.1-24 https://vedabase.io/en/library/cc/madhya/12/advanced-view/ ------------------------------------------------------------- We just read earlier this morning in the Bhajana Rahasya, the third verse, "tṛṇād api sunīcena," Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura says that fame is the most difficult of the anarthas to give up. "Wanting to be famous for one's acumen in devotional service," he said, "one should give that up. Cc Madhya 12.213-13.65 https://vedabase.io/en/library/cc/madhya/12/advanced-view/ ------------------------------------------------------------ I'll tell you one thing, just the sound of it: 'kuṭīnāṭī' doesn't sound good. You don't want that. What do you got? Kuṭināṭī—crooked intelligence. It's just kind of a default mode in the material world: icchā-dveṣa-samutthena dvandva-mohena bhārata sarva-bhūtāni sammohaṁ sarge yānti paran-tapa (BG 7.27) People are icchā-dveṣa, they don't even know they're doing it. They're impelled by their previous associations to abhor some things and to support other things. They're practically blindly doing it because of the force of material nature. And to take that stance of criticizing as one's main platform in life... because there's the thesis, the antithesis, and then the synthesis. Instead of coming to the synthesis, many people take the antithesis because it gives them a platform to distinguish themselves from others. Those who haven't made a lot of spiritual advancement need some place to get a platform. So they take the antithesis, and they become the outspoken people who are bold enough—the bulldogs—to criticize everybody and 'call a spade a spade,' because 'somebody's got to do it.' And they stay in that because they get some accolades, like, 'Way to go! Somebody's got to do this!' But it becomes a preoccupation for them just to find fault with everybody, instead of looking for solutions or showing by example how to do it better, which is one thing Prabhupāda regularly told people who had criticisms for others. He would say, "Why don't you show a better way? Just show it, and then you don't have to criticize the other one so much." It's not to say that constructive criticism isn't helpful; it's very necessary. We have to find where we are lacking and try to fix it. But I think the mentality that is there, the crooked idea that 'I'll take this as my banner in life,' that really distracts one from the process of chanting, takes one away from 'tṛṇād api sunīcena,' and who knows, you could take birth as a kind of Yamarāja character in your next life. Just want to be the one who punishes everybody, or something like that. Cc Madhya 12.134-212 https://vedabase.io/en/library/cc/madhya/12/advanced-view/ ------------------------------------------------------------ By His practical activity, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu informed us how to cleanse our hearts. Once the heart is cleansed, we should invite Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa to sit down, and we should observe the festival by distributing prasādam and chanting the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra. Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu used to teach every devotee by His personal behavior. Everyone who spreads the cult of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu accepts a similar responsibility. The Lord was personally chastising and praising individuals in the course of the cleaning, and those who are engaged as ācāryas must learn from Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu how to train devotees by personal example. The Lord was very pleased with those who could cleanse the temple by taking out undesirable things accumulated within. This is called anartha-nivṛtti, cleansing the heart of all unwanted things. Thus the cleansing of the Guṇḍicā-mandira was conducted by Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu to let us know how the heart should be cleansed and soothed to receive Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa and enable Him to sit within the heart without disturbance. Cc Madhya 12.24-134 https://vedabase.io/en/library/cc/madhya/12/advanced-view/ ------------------------------------------------------------ You really have to be self-searching to make sure what your motive is. Japa is a good time to look at your motive and just see, am I actually sincere and self-searching? Because, just like, let's say, somebody writes you something or says something to you, and you perceive a molecule of anger, you know, the Rudra energy. Just say, you perceive a molecule of that when you... when you receive some... It might be translated into something like, 'How dare they?' Then, don't answer until you calm down. That's why letters were good, because you write it in anger, and the next day, because you couldn't find a postal stamp, it's like, 'What was I thinking?' Nowadays, people just push the button. And in a similar way, when we're making decisions, diplomatic or otherwise, I mean, diplomacy has a place, but we have to investigate: Am I self-motivated? Is there something in it for me, for my fame, or because I want to have the experience of dominating another person? If that's there, then it's going to be contaminated. So, be careful. Cc Madhya 124-243 https://vedabase.io/en/library/cc/madhya/11/advanced-view/ ------------------------------------------------------------ At the present moment we see that some of the members of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness are tending to leave their preaching activities in order to sit in a solitary place. This is not a very good sign. It is a fact that Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura has condemned this process for neophytes. He has even stated in a song, pratiṣṭhāra tare, nirjanera ghare, tava hari-nāma kevala kaitava: “Sitting in a solitary place intending to chant the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra is considered a cheating process.” This practice is not possible for neophytes at all. The neophyte devotee must act and work very laboriously under the direction of the spiritual master, and he must thus preach the cult of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu. Only after maturing in devotion can he sit down in a solitary place to chant the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra as Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu Himself did. Although Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, to teach us a lesson He traveled all over India continuously for six years and only then retired at Jagannātha Purī. Even at Jagannātha Purī the Lord chanted the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra in great meetings at the Jagannātha temple. The point is that one should not try to imitate Haridāsa Ṭhākura at the beginning of one's transcendental life. One must first become very mature in devotion and thus receive the approval of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu. Only at such a time may one actually sit down peacefully in a solitary place to chant the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra and remember the lotus feet of the Lord. The senses are very strong, and if a neophyte devotee imitates Haridāsa Ṭhākura, his enemies (kāma, krodha, lobha, moha, mada and mātsarya) will disturb and fatigue him. Instead of chanting the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra, the neophyte will simply sleep soundly. hose who are cultivating spiritual life and executing devotional service are always engaged in activity. Such activity can be performed with the body or with the mind. Thinking, feeling and willing are all activities of the mind, and when we will to do something, the activity comes to be manifest by the gross bodily senses. Thus, in our mental activities we should always try to think of Kṛṣṇa and try to plan how to please Him, following in the footsteps of the great ācāryas and the personal spiritual master. There are activities of the body, activities of the mind and activities of speech. A Kṛṣṇa conscious person engages his words in preaching the glories of the Lord. This is called kīrtana. And by his mind a Kṛṣṇa conscious person always thinks of the activities of the Lord – as He is speaking on the Battlefield of Kurukṣetra or engaging in His various pastimes in Vṛndāvana with His devotees. In this way one can always think of the activities and pastimes of the Lord. This is the mental culture of Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Syracuse football head coach Fran Brown is sticking with Rickie Collins as his starting quarterback out of the Orange's bye week against Pittsburgh. Can Collins improve from generating nearly 19 points fewer against Power-Four competition for the Orange offense? According to Pro Football Focus, Collins has a turnover-worthy play percentage of 7.5 percent this season, which means that 7.5 percent of his drop backs this season have resulted in plays were likely to end in a turnover. That is the worst rate in the country among quarterbacks who have at least 100 drop backs this season. Despite playing in just four games and only starting two, Collins is tied for 19th in the country with five interceptions, according to PFF. Brent Axe discusses that and how Fran Brown handled a question about his name coming up for bigger jobs (in this case Penn State) at a recent press conference. Axe also chats with Chris Peak from Panther Lair to get a preview of the Pitt Panthers squad that comes to the JMA Dome on Saturday. Peak discusses how the Panthers made a significant quarterback change and how it has changed the trajectory of its season, the SU-Pitt series and what (if anything) SU can exploit in a matchup they come into as 10.5-point underdogs. Starting next year, the Army will be able to domestically mass-produce upwards of 10,000 small unmanned aerial systems each month, according to the service. Army Materiel Command is leading a new pilot program dubbed “SkyFoundry” that will allow the service to rapidly develop, test and produce small drones using innovative manufacturing methods. Officials are currently identifying multiple facilities where the platforms will be designed and produced. The department expects it can manufacture at least 10,000 UAS per month once the first site is up and running, Army Vice Chief of Staff Gen. James Mingus said Tuesday. He said during a fireside chat at the annual AUSA conference: “We'll be at 10,000 a month by this time next year, if not more.” The effort comes as the Pentagon looks to ramp up production of small drones across the services following Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth's “Unleashing U.S. Military Drone Dominance” directive, issued in July. The memo requires low-cost, attritable drones to be fielded to every Army squad by the end of 2026 and calls on the military to partner closely with domestic industry to scale up manufacturing. Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., sent a letter Tuesday to acting CISA Director Madhu Gottumukkala raising concerns about staffing levels and the direction of the nation's primary cybersecurity agency, writing that the “Trump Administration has undertaken multiple efforts to decimate CISA's workforce, undermining our nation's cybersecurity.” Swalwell, the ranking member on the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection, called out the agency for its reported shift of cybersecurity personnel to the Department of Homeland Security's deportation efforts, on top of the approximately 760 people that have been let go from the agency since January. Swallwell wrote: “Amid reports that the Department of Homeland Security is now forcibly transferring CISA's cybersecurity employees to other DHS components, it has become apparent that the Department's exclusive focus on its mass deportation campaign is coming at the expense of our national security,” calling it “further evidence of the Administration's failure to prioritize cybersecurity” how CISA is engaging in Reductions in Force that could threaten its capacity to prevent and respond to cybersecurity threats. In the letter, he demanded that DHS cease all efforts to cut CISA's workforce, reinstate employees who were transferred or dismissed, and provide details on the impacts of the agency's workforce reductions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpCml1AZri0 Reproduced from @garlandn with thanks. https://www.youtube.com/live/SdMblswCkPc I spoke with Garland Nixon today about the state of democracy in the west. Why is it so hard for ordinary people to influence outcomes in our societies? Were the things we learned in school about Britain being the home of modern democracy and the House of Commons being the 'Mother of all parliaments' ever really true? We talked about how decaying capitalist-imperialism needs to keep workers as distracted as possible from their declining conditions by an ever-more hysterical and partisan 'news cycle', which does not actually represent the really important things that are going on in the world and only aims to keep workers 'entertained', demoralised and divided into tribal 'culture wars' groupings. And we discussed the nature of the state under conditions of capitalist rule, and how that differs under socialism. What is the content of the term 'democratic socialism' and whose interests do the self-identifying 'democratic socialists' really serve? What politics do the Greens really represent? Can politicians like Zohran Mamdani in the States and Zach Polanski in Britain really be as 'anti-establishment' and 'disruptive' as the spin doctors want us to believe? ______________________________________________ Subscribe! Cc Madhya 10.177-11.48 https://vedabase.io/en/library/cc/madhya/11/advanced-view/ ------------------------------------------------------------ There are cases when insincere people who are immature or ill-motivated approach a saintly person. In fact, one of the stories is about how a capitalist from Calcutta had gone to meet Babaji Maharaj where he was chanting in the field. Because this guy was rich, he thought, "Look, I have everything except for a guru. If I get a guru, then I've got everything—and the whole package! Not only am I the best materially, but everyone will say I have the best guru too, because who's more renounced than him?" So he went there and surrendered in the middle of the field, thinking something like, "You know, I will give you whatever you want. I'll build your little place." He was thinking, "What could he want? He's just sitting out here in the field." And then Babaji Maharaj said to him, "Okay, I'll accept you. I only have one thing to ask." He asked "What is that?" Maharaja said, "You sit down here with me and don't go home. That's the only alms I beg." And that person fled because he wasn't sincere. He was just going with an insincere request, with a material desire. But Prataparudra was different. He actually had this burning desire to meet the Lord. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #sricaitanyacaritamrita #govardhanreadings #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose

Everybody carries a song in their heart. That's what moves all of us. Melody and rhythm are universal. So in Bhakti, when we sing these bhajans, they go deeply within our body. They overwrite the other sound vibrations that are there, and they leave us with the clear, pristine spiritual sounds of another realm. And when we have those and we can aspire for that realm, actually, we'll be carried to that realm by the power of that sound vibration. Cc Madhya 11.49-126 https://vedabase.io/en/library/cc/madhya/11/advanced-view/ ------------------------------------------------------------ In this context, there is a way in which Kṛṣṇa describes to Uddhava in the Eleventh Canto of Śrīmad Bhāgavatam that the soul is never really liberated from the material world, because it was never bound in the first place. There is no liberation unless you are actually bound to the material world. "Asaṅgo hi ayaṁ puruṣaḥ" — the living entity never had anything to do with it in the first place. So he is never really connected with it. This idea of "now he's liberated" is a misnomer. Kṛṣṇa says that — plain and clear. And so, you know, being more liberal with the idea of Nitya-siddha, if you go to the other side of the spectrum and you understand that those who are fully engaged with Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu in service, they have nothing to do with the material world anymore, and they have assumed their original condition, which is nitya-siddha. It's also described how there are sādhana-siddhas, there are kṛpā-siddhas, and there are nitya-siddhas. And in most places, there is special consideration for the nitya-siddhas because they never touched the material world in the first place. But.. as Prabhupāda writes, "Siddha is siddha," whether it's sādhana-siddha or kṛpā-siddha or nitya-siddha. 'Siddha means siddha.' Sometimes people argue over this and say, "Yeah, but that guy's a sādhana-siddha or whatever." But siddha is siddha. Besides that, you're a soul; you never touched the material world in the first place. So, I think these purports are absolutely charming and encouraging, because it's what the devotees feel when they join the Kṛṣṇa Consciousness Movement, Lord Caitanya's movement. It's so potent! Why wouldn't you feel completely liberated, because of being fully engaged in the Saṅkīrtana movement? ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #sricaitanyacaritamrita #govardhanreadings #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose

The Trump administration pushed forward Friday with plans to fire federal employees amid the government shutdown, directing reductions-in-force at the Departments of Health and Human Services, Education, and Housing and Urban Development, among other agencies. Prior to and during the current shutdown, the White House repeatedly threatened to lay off additional federal workers in a bid to further its efforts to shrink the size of the government. The Trump administration maintains Democrats are to blame for the shutdown, though Democrats contend that a spending bill from Republicans — who control all levers of power — wouldn't adequately fund health care. Russ Vought, the director of the Office of Management and Budget, posted on X early Friday afternoon that the “RIFs have begun,” without offering additional details. An OMB spokesperson told FedScoop the RIFs began and are “substantial.” In a preview of his discussions with Vought last week, President Donald Trump said in a post to his social media platform that they would target “Democrat Agencies,” calling them “a political SCAM.” According to a court filing from the Trump administration late Friday, at least 4,100 federal workers across eight federal agencies may have been sent RIF notices, with the bulk of the staff reductions at HHS, with 1,100 to 1,200 workers impacted, and the Department of Treasury, with 1,446 workers impacted. Deploying artificial intelligence requires taking on the right amount of risk to achieve a desired end result, a National Institute of Standards and Technology official who worked on its risk management framework for the technology said on a panel last week. While federal agencies, and particularly IT functions, are generally risk averse, risks can't entirely be avoided with AI, Martin Stanley, an AI and cybersecurity researcher at the Commerce Department standards agency, said during a FedInsider panel on “Intelligent Government” last week. Stanley said: “You have to manage risks, number one,” adding that the benefits from the technology are compelling enough that “you have to go looking to achieve those.” Stanley's comments came in response to a question about how the federal government compares to other sectors that have been doing risk management for longer, such as financial services. On that point specifically, he said the NIST AI Risk Management Framework “shares a lot of DNA” with Federal Reserve guidance on algorithmic models in financial services. He said NIST attempted to leverage those approaches and the same plain, simple language. “We talk about risks, we talk about likelihoods, and we talk about impacts, both positive and negative, so that you can build this trade space where you are taking on the right amount of risk to achieve a benefit,” Stanley said. In Episode 444 of Hidden Forces, Demetri Kofinas speaks with Dan Wang, author of Breakneck: China's Quest to Engineer the Future, about his pioneering new framework that compares the U.S. and China not along ideological lines or modes of governance, but by state capacity and the propensity to build. According to Dan Wang, China is an “engineering state,” focused on building big projects and diffusing technologies across its economy, while America is a “lawyerly society” that has become proficient at protecting what it has and obstructing progress in areas that are vital for its long-term prosperity. Kofinas and Wang compare each nation's leadership—staffed by engineers and mega-project managers in China and litigators and regulators in America—against each other and against each country's own history, and examine when and why the United States, in particular, went from being a country that excelled in constructing things to one more concerned with obstruction and safeguarding a comfortable way of life for the wealthiest and older segments of society. The second hour is devoted to a discussion about the failures and unintended consequences of China's engineering state, most notably the devastating human impact of its one-child and zero-COVID policies. They also explore the similarities between the American and Chinese people, the prospects for conflict between the two superpowers, and what policies the United States can implement to get back to building again—like reforming immigration, advancing clean energy development, permitting the buildout of more housing, and increasing funding for basic scientific research and development. In this episode of Veteran On the Move, host Joe Crane sits down with Army veteran and financial advisor, Jeff Panik, the founder of Balance Wealth Partners. Jeff, who leveraged his military service to pay off college loans and build a 25-year career in finance, shares a unique perspective on the veteran transition and retirement planning. Verses discussed: Cc Madhya 9.280-10.17 https://vedabase.io/en/library/cc/madhya/9/advanced-view/ People might think, 'Oh, this is very audacious to claim that this is the specific path, and there is no other.' Or they might find relief, because with deconstructionism and no ultimate conclusion, people are exhausted. They're sick of the retreat of logic; it keeps going back. People lie, and then they lie about the lies, and then it keeps going on and on. And when they find something very specific where somebody just authoritatively says, 'No, this is it; take it,' like Prabhupāda used to do with what he did for Yogī Bhajan. He said, 'No, it's in your scripture,' because Yogī Bhajan brought it up—that Govinda is there in scripture. Then take it. You take that! He kept on, and he wouldn't let him go. He said, 'No, you take that. Govinda is in your scripture. Take it! Why won't you take it?' And I felt that kind of relief when I first read the Back to Godhead magazine, because every other book I had read up to that point was wishy-washy. When finally somebody said, 'Lord Caitanya is God, and here's what he says, and just follow it,' I said, 'All right, finally something—a pitch I can hit. Cc Madhya 10.10-108 https://vedabase.io/en/library/cc/madhya/10/advanced-view/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Physical proximity isn't necessarily the thing that helps, because you can be in somebody's physical proximity, and your mind can be elsewhere. For instance, who's in a better position? Somebody who lives in Delhi, has to work there, has to stay there, and is always thinking about living in Vṛndāvana and hankering for Vṛndāvana? Or someone who moved to Vṛndāvana, but they're thinking, "I wish I could go to Delhi, because I want to go to Haldirām's, have a snack, and watch a football match"? I mean, who's in a better position? Physical proximity? One's in Vṛndāvana, the other one's in Delhi. So your point about, okay, he (Kālā Kṛṣṇa Dāsa) was close to Caitanya Mahāprabhu—but if your mind isn't engaged, then you could be far away and not taking advantage of Mahāprabhu's mercy. The sun is there, but if you cover yourself from it, then you're not able to take advantage of it. Just like with chanting—you can chant and not even be aware that you're chanting. Then that's one of the offenses. You're chanting, and Kṛṣṇa is directly present before you as the avatāra, but then you are thinking about something else—so you are not really there. It is concluded, therefore, that the holy name of the Lord and topics in relation with Him are always worth hearing, and therefore He is called here in this verse nāma-dheya, or one whose holy name is worth chanting. Verses discussed: Cc Madhya 259-279 Prabhupāda explains that in one of his purports. He quotes from Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura, and he said, there are three kinds of sukṛti. There's jñāna-sukṛti, which qualifies one for impersonal liberation. That's why some people—they already have that sukṛti—and they are attracted to that. Another is karma-sukṛti. It's called something else, but it means the same thing. They have sukṛti for getting really wealthy, really fast. It's just in them. And then there's bhakti-unmukhī-sukṛti, which means that somehow or other one comes in contact with pure devotees, as we know from another verse in the Caitanya-caritāmṛta: sādhu-saṅga, sādhu-saṅga—sarva-śāstre kaya lava-mātra sādhu-saṅge sarva-siddhi haya Just a little bit of connection with pure devotees can give one this bhakti-unmukhī-sukṛti. In the Jaiva Dharma, you'll find near the beginning—in the Bṛhad-Nāradīya Purāṇa—there's a verse that describes how, when one gets this kind of bhakti-unmukhī-sukṛti and it accumulates within the heart, when it comes to a certain level, then śraddhā is born. And there is a sense of appreciation for devotees and devotional service. So there are three categories of sukṛti. Cc Madhya 10.109-175 https://vedabase.io/en/library/cc/madhya/10/advanced-view/ ------------------------------------------------------------ If one is to take advantage of the position of the spiritual master, then there has to be a sense of reverence, because mercy flows down. But, at the same time, one may lose the intimate connection of friendship in which the heart of the spiritual master opens and the contents flow out. So there's an example of fire. One shouldn't get too close to the fire, otherwise you get burned. But if you stay too far away, you may not be able to take advantage of the qualities of the fire. So, there should be an appropriate mix of both of those. And just as far as the second point goes, I mean, it's a generally accepted principle that intimacy in relationships anywhere, but especially with the spiritual master and the Supreme Personality of Godhead, is a more advanced position. itthaṁ satāṁ brahma-sukhānubhūtyā dāsyaṁ gatānāṁ para-daivatena māyāśritānāṁ nara-dārakeṇa sākaṁ vijahruḥ kṛta-puṇya-puñjāḥ (SB 10.12.11) There's some wonderment in the discovery of those in Vṛndāvan in this verse I just quoted from Chapter Twelve of the Tenth Canto, that those who are in the topmost position have an equal position with the Lord. They are so intimately related, and that's put in the higher position, as more mercy, than those who are dāsyaṁ gatānāṁ para-daivatena. They see the Supreme Personality of Godhead as their master, The Supreme Lord with opulence. Therefore, the second answer to the second question is the one: when there is intimacy, then it's known that one's receiving more mercy, but both things should be there in the relationship. That's my final answer. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose
