While it touches on heartbreaking events, it ultimately offers a powerful message of healing, hope, and the resilience of the human spirit. Recorded live at Tony and Sage Robbins' 2024 Platinum Partners Happiness event, this raw and deeply emotional conversation features best-selling author Jeffrey Olsen (Knowing, Where Are You?). His story is a testament to the fact that even in our darkest moments, light, love, and purpose are still possible. In the second half of this episode, Jeff is joined by fellow NDE survivor, author, and artist Nancy Rynes for a heartfelt audience Q&A. Their conversation offers comfort and connection to anyone navigating grief, trauma, or a deeper spiritual search. For finding your voice has its own power in healing. When you are heard, you are able to heal at all levels—mind, body and spirit.BioJulia Evan's background is in western medicine; she has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and was a Registered Nurse for more than a decade. Only after years of suffering with Multiple Sclerosis and being faced with a traumatic near-death experience did she finally and truly open her heart and mind towards the notion of holistic healing and energy medicine. As Julia immersed herself into learning about what she believed to be a new age form of healing, she began searching for an understanding of what it is and what she is actually capable of. She found a modality that really spoke to her and through that became a Certified BodyTalk Practitioner. This modality fuelled her passion and interest towards a journey of self healing and the ability to help others find their missing voice within themselves— to help find the root cause and underlying components that hold people back from truly healing. It has given her a new perspective on what “healing” is. As she continues to broaden her knowledge and develop an even better understanding of the essence of BodyTalk, she now is able to view a person as a whole and focus on the priorities of what each individual needs to heal instead of defining them by their illness or disease. Julia Evans is the loving mother of two, and is happily married to the love of her life and soulmate. This episode marks a milestone—400 episodes of Gospel Spice! In this special group conversation, Stéphanie Rousselle welcomes Angel Omoruan, Ros Evans, and Lindsay Sterious to reflect on God's enduring goodness, the landscape of inner growth, and the beauty of vulnerability within Christian community. Stephanie and her friends reflect on the importance of serving “the one,” being open to “hidden spaces” where ministry might not be grand but is deeply significant. God's presence is not limited to moments of solitude or to times of communal support. Both are necessary, and God moves in each. Big announcement! Sign up for our Prayer Course at gospelspice.com/prayer The Power of Community: The “Turtle Formation” Ros kicks things off by revisiting her journey toward understanding her true nature as an introvert. Despite often appearing energetic and talkative, she recognizes that she draws strength from solitude. She introduces the term “turtling”—retreating inward to recharge. Introversion isn't a weakness or escape, but a necessary, God-given rhythm for many. The “turtle formation” provides a picture of believers locking arms, forming a shield for one another in times of attack or weakness. Lindsay and Ros share stories of community prayer sustaining them in difficulty. Ros notes, “find the people who are willing to turtle with you…that is needed to stand firm in truth.” “Turtling” can become unhealthy when it turns into disengagement and numbness. While retreating is sometimes needed for healing and reflection, it must be balanced with healthy connection to God and others. In prolonged withdrawal, we risk isolation and disconnection from the very relationships that God uses for our spiritual growth. God's Lessons through Life Transitions and Challenges Angel relates to Ros's introversion, recounting how recent life changes exposed emotions she hadn't faced before. Like Ros, she found that retreating—turtling—was partly God's way of protecting her and prompting introspection. However, she also describes God's gentle promptings to re-engage with others, learn to lament, extend grace, and embrace vulnerability. Angel brings in the “turtle formation” used by Roman soldiers. This image of locked shields captures how Christian community can protect and carry one another. There's wisdom in both knowing when to retreat for healing and when to rejoin the ranks for mutual encouragement. Community as Spiritual Armor Lindsay adds her own testimony of being “carried” by her community through a difficult season involving her daughter's health. She describes a profound experience of being prayed for—allowing herself to be vulnerable, supported, and reminded that the body of Christ is meant to shield one another. This spiritual “turtle formation” is a source of strength, comfort, and tangible experience of God's care. The Value of Vulnerability Angel reflects on the difficulty—and gift—of being vulnerable, especially when God calls us to serve. She shares that being present and obedient in the small, unnoticed moments often becomes a blessing, not only for others, but for ourselves. By being honest, especially when we struggle, we open space for God to work uniquely through us. Ros sums it up: “when you know the Holy Spirit has you at a place in a moment, you forget about everything…and by the time I finish, the person's getting blessed and I'm getting blessed too.” Stephanie highlights how we often wait for “big” moments, but Jesus values our faithfulness in serving the “one”—whether a child, a mentee, or a congregation member. She remarks, “let's just focus on what really, really matters,” echoing the importance of focusing on small daily acts of love and service. God in the Quiet and in the Crowd The Christian walk is not about perfection, but humility, honesty, and interdependence. Whether you're serving quietly, struggling privately, or standing “in turtle formation” with others, God sees, sustains, and works through it all. Be encouraged to walk vulnerably, faithfully, and together. Key Takeaways: Embrace your God-given temperament (introvert or extrovert). Healthy retreats (“turtling”) are vital, but must be balanced with intentional connection. Vulnerability—within safe community—unveils God's love and the power of prayer. Spiritual battles are not fought alone; we lock shields through fellowship and humility. God uses both quiet moments and community engagement to reveal His goodness and grace. Challenge: This week, ask God where you might need a healthy retreat—and where you might need to step back into community to “lock shields” with others. Practice vulnerable honesty, and remember that God is present both in your shell and on the battlefield. Details and registration here: https://www.gospelspice.com/prayer  There are a few things in our Christian life that we know we should do more, or at least better – and prayer just might top the list. Prayer is a mystery. Why would a conversation with a human have any influence on God's eternal, sovereign plan? It defies logic, and beckons love. How can God, the Almighty Lord of Hosts, be this close, this personal? It defies understanding, and beckons involvement. But, lack of time, inspiration, and discipline, combined with the ruthless tyranny of our busy lives, push prayer to the periphery, to the “one day I'll get to it” pile. And yet, we can excel at what we endeavor to undertake. So, why isn't prayer more of a spiritual priority? Could we develop a mindset around prayer that made it attractive, inspiring, even maybe delightful? What if we attuned our spiritual ears to listen to God, and our spiritual eyes to see His provision? As an unassuming student, I'm going to humbly offer to share the little I have learned from others about the joy of prayer. I will give us theology, practical tips, and useful resources, sharing what works for me as we, together, learn to pray. If you find prayer intimidating, or if your lack of prayer makes you feel guilty or “less than,” then this is the place for you! If you have been a student of prayer for many years, this is the place for you too! If you have breath in your lungs, then prayer can become one of the deepest joys of your day. Don't miss out! A PERSPECTIVE ABOUT PRAYER To pray is to believe that God not only hears, but that He responds. It is to stand in the gap for a broken world, wielding the authority of Christ, empowered by the Spirit, and trusting in the goodness of the Father. The question is not whether prayer works, but whether we are willing to pray the kinds of prayers that invite God's Kingdom into the darkest places of the earth—and of our own hearts. We may never fully understand the mechanics of prayer, or how it intersects with God's sovereignty, but we are not called to understand everything. We are called to be faithful. And faithfulness means showing up—in prayer, in persistence, in expectation. So today, let us pray not only for the comfort of our hearts, but for the transformation of the world. Let us take our place as image-bearers, co-laborers, and co-heirs. Let us believe that God is still listening—and still acting. Because He is. There's only one way to find out what might happen when we truly pray like this. Let's begin. Honestly, I had a tough time sleeping when I was in Singapore some years ago. It was my first time overseas. It was hot all the time there; it's sub-equatorial. And I found myself lying awake almost all night long. I was there with another guy. We were ministering together there, teaching in seminars. So, since we couldn't sleep, we ended up talking and talking, and the ceiling fan over our heads made about one revolution per minute, so it wasn't doing much good. Finally about 3:00 to 3:30, just about the time you get to sleep, a little cooler at that point, and you wouldn't know it, you just doze off and suddenly you'd hear a rooster crowing right there in downtown Singapore. The roosters didn't care; they were still crowing. You could hear right after that, all the sounds of Singapore waking up...thank you Mr. Rooster, I just got to sleep. Now, I didn't grow up on a farm. So this was my first opportunity to listen each morning to the power of a rooster's wakeup call, whether I wanted to wake up or not. I'm Ron Hutchcraft and I want to have A Word With You today about "The Rooster In Your Heart." Our word for today from the Word of God comes from Matthew 26. It's a familiar account of the denial of Jesus by His main man, Simon Peter. And in verse 73, we come upon the third time Peter is going to deny his Lord. "After a little while, those standing there went up to Peter and said, 'Surely you are one of them, for your accent gives you away.' Then he began to call down curses on himself, and he swore to them, 'I don't know the man!' Immediately a rooster crowed. Then Peter remembered the words Jesus had spoken, 'Before the rooster crows you'll disown me three times.' And he went outside and wept bitterly." It appears here that Peter betrayed Jesus twice before and didn't deal with what he had done. He managed to get through that okay. But the third time, the Bible says, "He went out and wept bitterly." In fact, the Greek means he went out and wept bitterly and loudly. You could hear this man sobbing aloud after what he had done. And it was the sound of the rooster that triggered repentance. In a sense, that rooster did to Peter what roosters often do; he woke Peter up. Now, Jesus told us the Holy Spirit would specialize in wakeup calls. He said in John 16, "When the Holy Spirit has come, He will convict the world of sin." When you betray your Lord in some sin or some compromise, there is - in a sense - a rooster calling in your heart saying, "Wake up! Look what you're doing! Do you know how this makes your Savior feel?" It's like an arrow to the heart. The question is, "What do you do when the Holy Spirit's conviction says, 'What have you done?'" It's possible that the rooster's been crowing in your heart lately; things you've been doing in secret or when you're with that person that maybe you never should have been associated with. Or maybe when you've compromised the truth, or you've neglected your family again, you've hurt the people you love again, you rationalize what you should be repenting of. Peter graduated from spiritual treason to spiritual greatness after his denial. Why? He let God break his heart over his sin. He responded emotionally to the stabbing pain in his heart. Do you? Spiritual disaster begins when you begin to quench the Spirit of God, you ignore the call that should wake you up. Today, through this program, the rooster's crowing again. It's the Holy Spirit saying, "You're breaking Jesus' heart. It's time you shed some tears over it as He is. It's the cry of a rooster that means a new day is dawning. The conviction of the Holy Spirit can begin a whole new day in your life if you'll wake up.

Annual cosmetic industry sales in the United States are about $89.5 billion dollars. That's nearly 90 billion, with a B, spent on makeup and personal care items including skincare, haircare, perfumes, toiletries, deodorants, and oral cosmetics. For perspective, of 148 nations tracked in 2019 by TheGlobalEconomy.com, 126 of them had annual national expenditures of less than 90 billion dollars, including Israel, Switzerland, and South Africa. We spend more in this country on lotions, potions, and creams to make ourselves look better, than the entire annual budget of most countries. That's even more eye-opening than the latest greatest mascara!Joshua 24:15 says, “Choose this day whom you will serve. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”For women and men both, the search for meaning can easily become entangled with the world's obsession with outer beauty and perfection in our faces and bodies. We seek to control and improve the impression others have of us with hairstyles and cosmetics, hours spent at the gym achieving the perfect body, and teeth whitening services that guarantee a gleaming smile. We may achieve worldly admiration by these vain pursuits, but temporary glamour won't bring us closer to God.1 Peter 3:3–4 says, “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight.”Let's pray.Lord, make us beautiful in your sight. This, also, is plainly declared in the voice of present providences. God is making wings for men's riches, he is shaking their habitations, taking away the visible defenses of their lives, proclaiming the instability and uncertainty of all things here below; and if we are not minded to contend with him, we have nothing left to give us rest and peace for a moment but a holy resignation of all unto his sovereign pleasure.

There are sometimes sudden impressions made on spiritual affections, which are always of great advantage to the soul, renewing its engagements unto God and duty. So was it with Jacob, Genesis 28:16-20; so is it often with believers in hearing the word, and on other occasions. On all of them they renew their clearings unto God with love and delight. But the effect of these impressions on unrenewed affections are neither spiritual nor durable; yea, for the most part, they are but checks given in the providence of God unto the raging of their lusts, Psalm 9:20.

Send us a textWelcome: Hello and welcome back to The Bible Project Daily Podcast. Today, we continue our 40-day journey through 1 Corinthians—a letter for the modern church, if ever there was one.In this episode, we'll witness something astonishing: Paul gives thanks for a church in crisis. Before addressing the many failings of the Corinthian believers, Paul stops to thank God for His grace at work in them—and in doing so, models how we too should begin not with condemnation, but with praise and confidence in God's faithfulness.

Thinking on Scripture with Dr. Steven R. Cook

Introduction      The study of angels, Satan, and demons matters to the Christian because it opens our eyes to the unseen spiritual realities that shape the visible world in which we live. It helps us understand our place in God's unfolding plan for humanity so that we may walk wisely in a fallen world.      Holy angels are created spiritual beings—intelligent, powerful, immortal, and organized for divine service. They are active participants in God's plan, protecting believers (Psa 91:11), executing judgment (2 Kgs 19:35), delivering messages (Luke 1:26-38), and even observing our lives (1 Cor 4:9; 1 Pet 1:12). God employs them to support His purposes and to assist His people in executing His will.      But there are spiritual dangers—unseen enemies who defy God, oppose His purposes, and seek to harm those who belong to Him and strive to do His will. We often assume our struggles are rooted in the material world, but Scripture reveals otherwise: “Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Eph 6:12). Satan is a real, cunning, and malicious being with a long history of opposing God, attacking truth, and deceiving humanity (John 8:44; 2 Cor 4:4). His primary strategy is deception—twisting truth just enough to make the lie believable (Gen 3:1-5). He infiltrates thought patterns, manipulates culture, promotes false religion, and targets believers' minds to sow doubt, fear, bitterness, and pride. Demons assist him in this agenda—promoting false doctrine (1 Tim 4:1), afflicting individuals (Mark 5:1-20), and energizing unbelievers to walk in darkness (Eph 2:2).      As Christians, we are not called to bind demons, rebuke Satan, or engage in mystical confrontations. Rather, we are commanded to resist him by standing firm in the truth, wearing the full armor of God, and remaining grounded in the gospel (Eph 6:10-18; Jam 4:7). Spiritual warfare is not won by shouting louder, but by thinking biblically, praying dependently, living obediently, and walking faithfully in God's will. Knowing that Satan is a defeated enemy—on a leash and headed for eternal judgment—gives us confidence, not fear (Col 2:15; Rev 20:10).      Most importantly, this doctrine drives us back to the gospel. All people are born into Satan's domain of darkness (Col 1:13), but through faith in Christ, we are transferred into His kingdom, sealed by the Holy Spirit, and forever safe from demonic possession and eternal condemnation (Eph 1:13-14; John 10:28). Though spiritual conflict continues, it is not a battle for salvation, but for sanctification, testimony, and eternal reward (1 Cor 3:12-15). And in that battle, God has not left us unequipped or alone. His Word is our weapon, His Spirit our strength, and His Son our victory.      In short, the study of angels, Satan, and demons matters because it's true, it's biblical, and it's intensely practical. To ignore it is to be spiritually naïve. To understand it is to be spiritually alert—walking with eyes wide open, armor on, heart steady, and hope anchored in the triumph of Christ. Angelology      Angels are spiritual beings created by God before the foundation of the world (Job 38:6-7; Col 1:16). The Hebrew word for angel is malʾāk, meaning “messenger,” and the Greek equivalent is angelos, also meaning “messenger.” These terms refer not to the nature of the being but to their function—agents who carry out God's directives. Angels are entirely distinct from humans and are never said to become human or vice versa (Heb 1:14; 2:16). They are intelligent (Matt 28:5-6), powerful (Psa 103:20; 2 Th 1:7), and immortal (Luke 20:36). They are innumerable (Heb 12:22; Rev 5:11) and are organized into ranks and classifications, such as cherubim (Gen 3:24; Ex 25:20), seraphim (Isa 6:2-3), and archangels (1 Th 4:16; Jude 1:9; cf. Dan 10:13; 21; 12:1). Despite their might and glory, they are not to be worshiped (Rev 22:8-9). Their loyalty is divided: some remained holy and serve the Lord (Mark 8:38), while others rebelled and now oppose His purposes (2 Pet 2:4; Rev 12:4, 9).      Holy angels function as God's messengers and ministers. They worship Him perpetually (Isa 6:3; Rev 4:8), carry out His judgments (Gen 19:12-13; Acts 12:23), and minister to believers (Heb 1:14). They have mediated divine revelation (Acts 7:53; Gal 3:19), protected God's people (Psa 34:7; Dan 6:22), and executed His will in historical events (Ex 12:23; 2 Kgs 19:35). For example, an angel shut the mouths of lions to preserve Daniel (Dan 6:22), and an angel released Peter from prison (Acts 12:7-10). Angels also play a key role in the return of Christ, accompanying Him in glory and executing divine wrath upon the earth (Matt 24:31; 2 Th 1:7-9; Rev 7:1-2; 16:1). Though invisible to the human eye under normal circumstances, they may appear in human form when necessary (Gen 18:2; Heb 13:2), always in submission to God's purposes and plans.      Importantly, believers today are to understand angels as ministers within God's providential order, not as sources of new revelation or mystical experiences (Col 2:18). The modern fascination with angels often drifts into dangerous sentimentalism or superstition, untethered from Scripture. But Scripture reminds us that angels observe our lives (1 Cor 4:9; 1 Pet 1:12), rejoice when sinners repent (Luke 15:10), and will one day gather the elect for Christ's kingdom (Matt 13:39-41; 24:31). Yet they remain behind the scenes, pointing not to themselves, but to the glory of God. Believers are never told to command, summon, or pray to angels. Instead, we rest in the knowledge that God's angelic servants are real, active, and aligned with His loving care and justice. Their presence reminds us of the unseen reality of spiritual warfare, divine oversight, and the majesty of the God they serve (Psa 91:11; Dan 10:12-13; Rev 5:11-12). Steven R. Cook, D.Min., M.Div.

For finding your voice has its own power in healing. When you are heard, you are able to heal at all levels—mind, body and spirit. BioJulia Evan's background is in western medicine; she has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and was a Registered Nurse for more than a decade. Julia lives in the Land of the Living Skies and always has her eyes on the horizon, to endless possibilities.Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thelilynurseFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/thelilynursehttps://www.amazon.com/dp/B085FWFL3C https://www.pastliveshypnosis.co.uk/https://www.patreon.com/ourparanormalafterlifeMy book 'Verified Near Death Experiences' https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DXKRGDFP

In this episode of the Summer Q&A Series, Nicole answers the profound listener question:“What’s one of the most effective methods you’ve personally found to cultivate your integrity?” Nicole redefines integrity as spiritual alignment, where our thoughts, emotions, and actions match our belief in Christ. She walks listeners through a 3-part daily rhythm rooted in Scripture and real-life experience: daily praise, daily noticing, and daily confession. This soul-training practice helps listeners learn to live more fully into God’s peace, wisdom, and joy—even in the everyday chaos of life. If you’re longing for a life where what you believe matches how you live, this episode is your roadmap. Main Takeaways Integrity means inner alignment: It’s not just about moral perfection—it’s about connecting your heart, mind, and actions to God’s purposes. It’s a daily journey, not a one-time decision: We don’t just say “yes” to Jesus once—we say it again and again as we walk with Him each day. Nicole’s 3-Step Practice to Cultivate Integrity: Daily Rhythm of Praise – Begin each day acknowledging God’s goodness and aligning your heart with His will. Daily Noticing – Pay attention to moments of anxiety, anger, and apathy—they often reveal areas where God wants to work. Daily Confession – End the day in honesty and grace. Confess missteps and receive the cleansing God promises in 1 John 1:9. God’s Mercy is New Every Morning: Confession isn’t about guilt; it’s about freedom and renewal. You don’t have to feel it to start: Spiritual disciplines begin as choices—and your emotions will often follow your habits.

A while ago, my sister-in-law introduced me to this tasty new addition to my usual breakfast menu. They're called English crumpets - low fat, great taste. Then I was hooked. In fact, I decided I had to go get myself more of them. I went to where I figured something in the English muffin/bagel category would be: the bread section, right? No, not crumpets. I finally tried something really radical. I asked someone who worked there. Yeah, a guy's last resort. He said, "They're in dairy." Dairy? Well, I guess these things are supposed to be refrigerated. And dairy is where I found them...at the end of a long search! I'm Ron Hutchcraft, and I want to have A Word With You today about "Spiritual Shopping." Now in my search for what would satisfy my appetite, I was shopping in the right store, but not in the right aisle. You know, it's easy to make that same mistake when you're shopping spiritually - for something that will satisfy your appetite for meaning in life. You only have to watch a few talk shows or look at some of today's best selling books to see that more and more people are shopping in the store that says "Spirituality." We seem to have concluded rightly that earth-stuff doesn't satisfy the human soul. Ecclesiastes says, "God has placed eternity in the hearts of men." That's right. Earth stuff isn't going to fill that hole. But, see, earth stuff doesn't give the meaning and the fulfillment that we can only get from something bigger - something spiritual. It may be that your own search has taken you down several aisles, looking for truth, for peace, for significance. There are probably more aisles in the spiritual store than ever before. It's easy to get confused, to get deceived, then get lost. In our word for today from the Word of God, Jesus Christ makes a bold declaration about where we will find what our hearts are hungry for. It's in John 14:6. "Jesus answered, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.'" Now Jesus said our spiritual shopping comes to an end when we go to His aisle and find the way He's provided to belong to God. This 'coming to the Father' He talks about is all about finding a personal relationship with the One who created us, the One we're going to meet the moment we die. Basically, there are three possibilities in the Spiritual Store. One is religion. You can try to fill the spiritual vacuum in your heart with the rituals and the beliefs of a religion. The second possibility is spiritual experiences from meditating, channeling, occult arts, or a wide variety of New Age spiritualities. And the third possibility in the Spiritual Store is a love relationship with our Creator. And the world's best selling book, the Bible, makes clear in its timeless wisdom that it is that relationship we're really looking for. In fact, the Bible says we were "created by Him and for Him" (Colossians 1:16). In other words, we can't find our ultimate meaning until we belong to the One we were made by and made for. And the Bible goes on to point out that instead of living for Him, we have, day after day, lived for ourselves. And that has cut us off from our Creator, and left us looking to religion or spiritual experiences to fill the hole that only a God-relationship can fill. Jesus came to pay for, to fix the brokenness that has come from our self-rule. That's why He died on the cross. That's why He said He is the way to get to our Heavenly Father - because He's the only One who paid the price to remove what keeps us from God. A religion can't love you, neither can a spiritual experience. We need a Creator-relationship. And that begins when you reach out and trust Jesus, the Creator's Son, to bring you and God together. The day you say to Him, as you could right now, "Jesus, I'm pinning all my hopes on You and what You did on the cross to bring me into a love relationship with my Creator." Listen, if you want that, go to our website and find, there, the Biblical information that will help you get this settled. It's ANewStory.com. Most of all, let Jesus know you want him. Maybe Jesus was the last aisle you thought you'd find answers in. But He's the only aisle where you'll finally find what you've been shopping for so long.
