Khandaan continues the 80s Dhamaka series with one of Amitabh Bachchan's most iconic—and polarizing—comedies: Namak Halaal (1982). Is this peak masala madness or a nostalgia trip gone wrong? In this episode, Asim passionately defends his childhood favorite while Amrita and Sujoy wrestle with the film's dated humor, dizzying plot logic, and eyebrow-raising romance arcs. We discuss: The comedy Amitabh debate — genius or grating? The legacy of Kader Khan's unforgettable one-liners Bappi Lahiri's absolute banger of a soundtrack (Pag Ghungroo, Raat Baaki, Jawaani Jaaneman) Smita Patil's rain-soaked dance number and the discomfort behind the scenes The villain lair logistics (seriously, where do you even buy a villain lair?) Dadu-related emotional trauma and masala film magic Disco suits, absurd aliases, and Shashi Kapoor's unexpectedly spicy side Next episode of the 80's Dhamaka will be Ram Lakhan (Dhina Dhin Da!)
Patreon bonus episodes whilst we were away: Live Reaction: Sitaare Zameen Par and Thug Life Trailer and Laal Pari Bonus Patreon: Too Sad to Be Funny, Too Funny to Be Cancelled This week on Khandaan: chaos, candour, and a touch of Shah Rukh. After a short break, the full Khandaan crew is back in the house—and we're not easing in gently. In this episode, we dive headfirst into everything that's been on our minds: the personal cost of conflict, censorship in media, and how Bollywood fits into a world that feels increasingly divided. From WhatsApp group tensions to government-issued podcast warnings (!), this is one of our most personal episodes yet.

Bill Chott is a fabulous human being who is a writer, improviser and actor. And a very hardworking one! He is an alumnae of ComedySportz, IO and Second City. He toured with the Second City troupe in the '90's. He played with many well-known improvisers and his talent with musical improv is second to none! In our chat we explore this career which includes films and Television like The Ringer, The Wizards of Waverley Place, Young Sheldon, Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story and This is Us. His writing credits include The Dana Carvey Show, SNL and recently "Too Funny to Fail" The Life and Death of The Dana Carvey Show". He shares his audition story with SNL that didn't get him in the cast but landed him on The Dana Carvey Show. Bill is a generous, kind soul and has a big, big heart. I know you'll love him as much as I do.
On this very ready-for-prime-time episode, hosts Ian and John gather their promotional sponsors and give us their best impressions of the 1996 ABC sketch comedy The Dana Carvey Show, starring Dana Carvey and a gaggle of now-famous (and infamous) writers and actors! Dana Carvey is joined by SNL and The Second City folks such as Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, and Robert Smigel to create a surrealist sketch show with wacky parodies, crude political humor, and the birthplace of The Ambiguously Gay Duo. Ian digs a deeper pit for the movie hole in his life, Shawshank Redemption. John's catching up with The Other Two on HBOMax before the third season premieres! Ian and John eat some Taco Bell and sip on Diet Mug Root Beer as they discuss the Hulu documentary Too Funny to Fail, John's 3rd grade third party vote, Phil Hartman as Larry King, and the most unfortunate timing of a turtle suit (not to be confused with “toitle shoup”). Every ask yourself "Why did I get married?" well I am sure we all have asked ourselves that question in our "marriage journey". It is a valid question and sometimes we need a reminder to understand the importance of a union. Its not about a piece of paper, its about love, respect, committment, friendship, compromise and especially understanding. Nevertheless, listen in on this topic of "What's The Value of Marriage" with my special guest and fellow podcaster "Angel" from Too Real, Too Funny. Check out her Link. I really enjoyed having a woman's perspective on this one.Men Speaking Out...Talking to reveal, not conceal! menspeakingout.com

Akil finally returns to the newly re-formed Documenteers podcast for some humorous fare about a show that seemed like a no-brainer at the time and ended up being one of the strangest sketch shows to somehow air during primetime after family sitcoms on network television. Dana Carvey was an inevitable super star, so they gave him a show. Ge and Robert Smigel hired some weirdos (who would later become infamous) and came right out the gate with some weird and funny shit. A Hollywood tale that is either about what NOT to do when you get a network show on primetime OR and inspiring tale about an amazing show that wasn't appreciated in it's time. We're talking "Too Funny to Fail: The Life & Death of the Dana Carvey Show" by Josh Greenbaum. It's on Hulu and it made us laugh quite a bit. Go watch it and then cum hear us discuss it. You'll be glad you did. A special Christmas episode recorded in an actual theatre. With actual people. Just sound technicians as events are still banned due to me being TOO FUNNY. This was a fun episode with fellow comedian and fellow former engineer Eleanor Tiernan. It was recorded at the Catcast - a special podcast festival held in the Set Theatre Kilkenny (usually the Comedy Festival home) sponsored by a bit of government money to keep the industry - especially the sound and vision people ticking over. We chatted about the usual topics of sizing an incinerator, the physics of an adult's jokes, the maths of a toddler's joke, Newton's Law of cooling (whether it's better to put the milk in the tea early or late) and how we both navigated lockdown using the Dunning Kruger effect.

There were so many variables in bringing the nearly two hour Marx Brothers classic A Day At The Races to the screen -- translating tried and tested vaudevillian acts while maintaining a satisfying story arc, shooting on a real racetrack with real horses, keeping the peace between novice comedy director Sam Wood and the cast -- that lawsuits were almost a given. The one that actually went to court was the case of a Marx Brothers fan who suggested in a fan letter that the Brothers should run a hospital in their next film and when that storyline showed up in this film, the fan sued! Dan and Vicky discuss their history with the Marx Brothers and their reactions to this classic comedy. Along they way you'll also hear about some recently seen including Doctor Sleep, The Lighthouse, Frozen 2, Knives Out, JoJo Rabbit, 1917 and Too Funny to Fail: The Dana Carvey Show. Horse around with your favorite podcast hosts on Hot Date 98: A Day at the Races. Check out our website at hotdatepod.com and leave us some feedback on our many social media outlets.
Too Funny, yet true! How did life get so complicated that our laws need to be explained to us, we do not know what all of our laws are and how the loopholes are abused at times and at other times kick us in the pocketbook? What is going on and what real laws if followed could eliminate a lot of the laws that we had to create and enforce past what is obvious? Tune in and join in on the conversation tomorrow morning at 5:30 AM PST, 8:30 AM EST!
Today’s conversation is a bit different for several reasons. First, a portion of this episode was initially featured on Beth Baker's podcast, Why We Run. I so enjoyed that conversation that I wanted to include the full-length version here. So in this episode, the tables are turned a bit and Beth Baker is asking ME the questions. But there’s something else that’s a bit different about this episode. It’s recorded while we are running. So you’re going to hear a lot of heavy breathing throughout our conversation. And you’re going to hear ambient noise and us talking about the bunnies and other things going on around us. I wanted to keep that in because that’s what happens when you’re running. You notice things. Beth and I talk about a lot of different things here and there are a ton of links in the show notes with more information. I think there are more links than I’ve ever had to add before. But I think that’ll make for a very informative and interesting listen. Also, not too long after we recorded this I had Beth on the She’s Bold Podcast, that was episode #103 so you can go back and listen to our conversation (not while we were running) so you can learn more about Beth Baker. With that, let’s get right to this conversation with me and Beth Baker. ***** Have a burning question and want to be featured on a future episode? Gather round listeners, and hear the tales of the tales that we consumed so you don't have to. Superfight makes a triumphant second appearance for a little family game night action. Tomfoolery, shenanigans, and hijinx ensue. No ballyhoo though. As always this is a ballyhoo free zone. Enjoy! Do you long for the carefree days of childhood? Hollywood hopes you do, which is what "Tag" opens this week. It stars Ed Helms, John Hamm, Jeremt Renner and Hannibal Burress as grown-ups who play a game of "tag." You'll hear what John Hamm has to say about it as well as what we think. Then there's "Incredibles 2." Does it live up to the 2004 original? Is it worth the wait? And then there's the remake of "Superfly." Well, you probably remember the theme song. Neil takes a look at a Hulu documentary "Too Funny to Fail" about Dana Carvey's long-forgotten sitcom and Bill McCuddy looks at two moviews on demand: "Thoroughbreds" and "Graduation." It's all fun, so listen in.
Tyler and David discuss the movies and TV shows they've been watching, including The Born Losers, Billy Jack, The Incredibles, The Cabin in the Woods, The Trial of Billy Jack, RBG, Jurassic Park, Gilbert, First Reformed, Billy Jack Goes to Washington, Jurassic World, Teen Wolf Too, Bad Samaritan, Too Funny to Fail, Mr. Mom, Avengers: Infinity War, The Resurrected, Gabriel and the Mountain, Paddington 2, The Lost World, The Prayer, The Sting, The Gospel According to Andre, All the Money in the World, Won't You Be My Neighbor?, A Quiet Place in the Country, Rampage, Science Fair, Beast, The Trial, New Girl, Survivor, Stranger Things and Silicon Valley.
We're wrapped up in nostalgia for episode three when third-year MFA student Chris Hudson swings by to talk about his thesis film "The Mayberry Effect." The film tells the story of the cultural impact of "The Andy Griffith Show" by following tribute artists who tour the country impersonating the program's iconic characters. We share some laughs about "Too Funny to Fail," the documentary that traces the failure of "The Dana Carvey Show." And we avoid any sort of copyright infringement as Trey tone-deafly hums tv theme shows. Finally, in a textbook example of burying the lead, Chris also talks about the time he was nominated for a freaking Emmy! Hosted by second-year MFA students Trey Kalny and Thomas Espy, "Deacs & Docs" is the official WFUDFPPC.
On an all-new Bladtcast #270, "Krysten Ritter? I hardly know her!", Christian, Agent Starling and Captain EO are finally back together in the studio, starting off with some real world talk about Will's impending surgery and a little disagreement between Christian and Jeff that has since been smoothed over. Then, we finally get Jeff's reaction to the Patriots loss in this years' Super Bowl. To keep Will invested, the conversation then shifts to the Batman animated series, Captain EO chimes in about "Too Funny to Fail" the Hulu documentary about "The Dana Carvey Show" and some of the other great original content from streaming services, there's also a rapid-fire conversation about a variety of series, including "Runaways", "Agents of SHIELD", "The Punisher", "Altered Carbon", "Almost Human" and more as Christian discusses the increasing demands on his time with two kids, including the early stages of potty-training his two-and-a-half year old son Felix. There's an update on Dennis Miller's "Red Circle Sports" podcast, a look back to St. Patrick's Day 2015, Dames and Games, Bladtcasting from the car, and LA weather compared to the East Coast. Christian and Will BRIEFLY disagree about "The Last Jedi" but save the bulk of the conversation for another day, so that the guys can begin planning in earnest a celebratory afternoon with Live to commemorate Christian's belated birthday and the belated fifth anniversary of the Bladtcast -- the results of which you will hear NEXT WEEK on Bladtcast #271.
It’s a bit of a dry spell this week, but we still head to the banks of the river of film, and sift for them nuggets of gold. We talk the Hulu doc, ‘Too Funny to Fail: The Life & Death of the Dana Carvey Show’ (Steve Carell, Stephen Colbert, Robert Smigel), and the world’s first completely oil painted feature, ‘Loving Vincent’ (Douglas Booth, Chris O’Dowd, Saoirse Ronan). We shout ‘Deneuve’, get giddy over shark poop, and lose an ear for the second week in a row. Darren gets the tweet of a lifetime, and we add a little more to our review of ‘The Post’. From Vincent van Gogh, to holes that blow, we’re still, strictly, a movie podcast.

In this, our penultimate episode, we get right down to business. After we talk about Michael Bay’s Pain and Gain, debate Jim Carrey and the new Netflix doc and hit another comedy doc, Too Funny to Fail. Then, it’s down to business with Big Ed and Nadine, DoppelCooper and a big tea kettle, great advice about the woods, the amazing use of “Sharp-Dressed Man,” quality Tim Roth and Jennifer Jason Leigh, James in the Black Lodge, Dougie plays with electricity, Hawk and Margaret say one last, truly heartbreaking goodbye, weird parentage, the welcome return of Special Agent Dale Cooper and a final round of your questions before our final episode!
