This week Will and Ian are controlled by a vicious captor, maybe the unseen and unheard Nora (who was sicky-poo) pulling the strings and forcing them to confront their faith in nothing, and their need for control of nothing. Theological battles ensue, as well as false prophets and knives and matches and boards with nails.
¿Anora? ¿Cónclave? ¿The Brutalist?

Oscar and Carl return to discuss the 2025 Mel Gibson-directed thriller Flight Risk. Together, they ask the important questions: Why is Mark Wahlberg bald? How did everyone get conned into making this? Who would fly on this plane? Why would this plan even work? Why is Topher Grace's character so purposely and frustratingly annoying? The movie you're making us watch today is Flight Risk, directed by Mel Gibson, featuring Mark Wahlberg, Michelle Dockery, and Topher Grace. Despite the star power, this action thriller stumbles at nearly every turn. The plot, which centers on a high-stakes flight with a fugitive, feels like a tired mix of clichés, and the performances, while competent, can't save it from its unconvincing dialogue and predictable twists. Gibson's direction does little to elevate the material—why does a film with such a promising premise feel so flat? What happened to the tension we were promised? Join us as we dissect the film's many missed opportunities, from underwhelming action sequences to a story that never quite takes off.Message us DIRECTLY to tell us how much you hated this episodeSupport the showFOLLOW US: INSTAGRAM - @MMwM_podcast TIKTOK - @MMwM_podcast YOUTUBE - @MMwM_podcast ALSO: @anthony_eslami @goldenroad85 @_schwizzyy_
In 1993 Mel Gibson's first directorial effort was a smaller movie named “The Man Without A Face.” Since then he's made nothing but big, epic movies like “Braveheart” and “Hacksaw Ridge.” Now he's going back to his smaller movie roots with the suspense thriller “Flight Risk.” Mel starred in “Father Stu” with Mark Wahlberg and apparently they forged a friendship because Wahlberg is the name at the top of the poster for this movie. In Gibson's latest directorial effort, Wahlberg plays a pilot flying a U.S. Marshal, played by Michelle Dockery and her cooperating government witness, played by Topher Grace, out of Alaska in a small plane. Seems pretty straightforward right? Not so much, otherwise we wouldn't have a movie. As this movie's trailers show, Wahlberg is really a hitman hired by the mobster that the witness will testify against. After Wahlberg makes his move against them, the U.S. Marshal manages to subdue and restrain him. Now she has to try to fly a plane, with no training, while keeping an eye on the witness and especially on the hitman. Will the marshal and the witness make it out alive? Who else is involved in this assassination plot? Is “Flight Risk” even worth putting your seat in the upright position and stowing your tray table to watch? Find out in this episode! “Flight Risk” also stars Leah Remini, Monib Abhat, Paul Ben-Victor, Maaz Ali and Eilise Patton. This week, every good team needs a greaseman, and boy do we have one, as we're putting a team together to knock down three Vegas casinos in one night, in a movie that is just as clever and funny as it is slick and stylish. It's 2001's Ocean's Eleven, directed by Steven Soderbergh, written by Ted Griffin, and starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Andy Garcia, Julia Roberts, Elliott Gould, Casey Affleck, Scott Caan, Bernie Mac, Don Cheadle, Carl Reiner, Eddie Jemison, Shaobo Qin and Topher Grace. Soderbergh is clearly having a ball bringing this material to life with an all-star cast of capital-M capital-S Movie Stars, but the movie is more understated than its more dazzling sequels, and never loses sight of the human heart at its core that makes all the action matter in the first place. It's a beautiful film, visually and emotionally, and feels like the kind of adult-oriented entertainment that Hollywood seems hard-pressed to cook up these day. Plus: J Mo's been to theatre to see Soderbergh's first of two new entries in 2025, and is back with a theatrical field report on the POV ghost story Presence. If you'd like to watch the movie before listening along to our conversation, Ocean's Eleven is currently streaming on Crave in Canada and Max in the United States. Other works discussed on this episode include Heartburn, Longlegs, Seven, The Silence of the Lambs, Black Bag, Kimi, Gladiator II, Jaws, Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, Michael Clayton, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning: Part I, Hulk, Saturday Night, Man of Steel, Dawn of the Dead (2004), Go, Marie Antoinette, The Last Showgirl, Ocean's 12, Ocean's 13, Out of Sight, Erin Brockovich, Traffic, Fight Club, The Long Goodbye and countless more. Next week, we're kicking off another February of wall-to-wall rom-coms as Love Month kicks off with Steve Martin's L.A. Story, which is currently free to stream in Canada at the time of publication of the CTV app. On Valentine's Day, it's Nicolas Cage and Cher in Moonstruck, followed by Jerry Maguire on the 21st. And we'll close out the month with another Hayley selection in the podcast canon as we induct 1999's 10 Things I Hate About You. Until then, we'll see you at the movies!!

But at least two of Earth's Mightiest Critics think it's one of the best moviegoing experiences they've had in years! There's a major caveat, of course: Ian and David saw the movie in 4DX (yeah, that setup where they shake your chair and hurl smoke and water at you)! The film centers on a US Marshal (Michelle Dockery) who must transport a mob case witness (Topher Grace) to a Seattle courthouse--by way of a rickety Cessna flying over the snowy Alaskan wilderness. Their pilot (Mark Wahlberg) just happens to be a mob assassin and, well, things go south up north!Join us for a turbulent look at the latest from the Academy Award-winning director of Braveheart and Hacksaw Ridge! In this Episode Ruben reviews Flight Risk, the surprisingly unambitious movie from Mel Gibson. Starring Mark Wahlberg as a sex criminal, Michelle Dockery as a US Marshal with secret in her past, and Topher Grace as a quirky crime accountant all trapped on a plane in Alaska.
The review of Flight Risk a 2025 action thriller produced and directed by Mel Gibson and written by Jared Rosenberg. Starring Mark Wahlberg, Michelle Dockery and Topher Grace, the plot follows a pilot transporting a U. S. Marshall and a government witness across the Alaskan wilderness, where the identities and intentions of those onboard come into questionHosted by Ausha. For the most part, it's a surprisingly good week for January movies here at Breakfast All Day. We begin with the one that's not so good: "Flight Risk," and even that's not completely terrible. Mark Wahlberg stars as a pilot flying a U.S. Marshal (Michelle Dockery) and a fugitive (Topher Grace) to Anchorage, but the skies aren't so friendly. Mel Gibson directs, which you'd never know from the trailers. In theaters. Then, we loved "Presence," the latest experimental lark from Steven Soderbergh. It's a haunted house movie where the ghost is the camera. Soderbergh makes clever, elegant use of his first-person perspective. In theaters. We also catch up with the comedy "One of Them Days," which is a total delight. Keke Palmer and SZA have terrific chemistry as roommates who must come up with the rent on their run-down Los Angeles apartment by the end of the day, or they'll be evicted. It felt really good to laugh this week. In theaters. Finally, we did our usual Friday Movie News LIVE! We followed up on Oscar nominations, our wildfire fundraiser, Razzie Award nominations and the start of the Sundance Film Festival. No news on Jan. 31, but come back and join us on Feb. 7. Welcome to This Past Week, where I share what I've seen, read, written, and watched! What I Saw: An Episcopalian woman bishop delivering a bold message to President Trump. What I Read: Anne Catherine Emmerich's insights on the word “Amen,” finished Kevin Wells's The Hermit, and started Pope Francis's autobiography. Considering Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson, who honored St. Marianne Cope in a poem. What I Wrote: Prayer responses to Scripture. What I Watched: Mel Gibson's Flight Risk, an action-packed thriller starring Mark Wahlberg, Michelle Dockery, and Topher Grace—highly recommend! Looking ahead to The Brutalist next Monday and sharing thoughts on Valiant One and Green and Gold.
Jenna Bush Hager and guest co-host Scarlett Johansson try out popular online hacks. Also, actor Topher Grace stops by studio 1A to chat about his new action thriller, “Flight Risk.” Plus, Topher Grace sticks around to put his movie knowledge to the test in a game of “Don't Look Back”.

Dan and Ana are in a blood feud with the Super-Podcasters; don't get in their way. This may be one of the most less-than-the-sum-of-its-parts movies we've ever seen! Two Oscar winners are in this movie! And Walter Goggins! Topher Grace is genuinely funny. And yet. And yet. There is less IR in this movie than you'd think, but a surprisingly robust critique of capitalism. Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Hugh Grant is most well known for his comedic and gentler performances in “Four Weddings and a Funeral” and “About A Boy.” That's not what you're getting from ol Hughie in this week's movie I'm reviewing, “Heretic.” In this movie he comes off like he'd be right at home being roommates with Hannibal Lecter. He plays the mysterious Mr. Reed, who two Mormon women visiting his home to perhaps convert him, are unfortunate enough to meet. The women are Sister Barnes and Sister Paxton, played respectively by Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East, and they early on suspect that their conversion attempt might turn into a survival game. Mr. Reed is no uninitiated, uninformed candidate for religious conversion. You realize that he's very well versed in all things religion. However, you also realize he's got other characteristics that are more sinister that the poor sisters just might have to worry about. What are those characteristics? Will the poor sisters make it out alive? Is it worth finding out in theaters? Check out this episode to find out! “Heretic” also stars Topher Grace, Elle Young, Julie Lynn Mortensen, Haylie Hansen, Elle McKinnon and Anesha Bailey. It is a privilege to welcome actor, filmmaker, and producer Michael Nardelli to The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast. Michael made his professional acting debut as Stradivarius Helberg on the TV show Quintuplets. He then co-starred in the independent film The Derby Stallion opposite Zac Efron and the comedy Grassroots with Jason Biggs. Soon after, Michael portrayed a lovesick teenager in the 3-D horror film The Collective. He also had recurring roles on TV series such as American Crime Story: The People versus OJ Simpson, Hart of Dixie, My Name is Earl, Nashville, and Revenge. When Michael is not on television, he is behind the camera. As an independent film producer, Michael produced the Sundance Film Festival Award-winning Another Happy Day, which starred Demi Moore, Ezra Miller, and Kate Bosworth and the Tribeca Film Festival selected The Giant Mechanical Man, which starred Jenna Fischer, Topher Grace, Malin Akerman, and Bob Odenkirk. Michael Nardelli became a household name when he produced and starred as Eric in the 2015 Netflix science fiction horror film CIRCLE. Co-starring Julie Benz and Carter Jenkins, the film is a bizarre mashup of 12 Angry Men and The Twilight Zone, where a room full of 50 strangers realize they control who will be the ultimate survivor. The high-stakes setup of the game within the film led to a heated cross-section discourse of the human conditions and all the hot-button issues dominating the early twenty-first century headlines. CIRCLE was screened at the 2015 San Diego Comic-Con and Savannah Film Festival, and the 2015 Seattle International Film Festival highlighted the film as a part of its Catalyst program, highlighting exciting new filmmakers. In 2019, Michael produced and starred in Amazon Prime Video's Dark/Web. The series focused on a genius programmer's mysterious disappearance, which led to the reunion of old friends. The discovery of strange stories she left behind may indicate an impending technological crisis. The series earned three Emmy Award nominations. On this episode of The Jake's Take with Jacob Elyachar Podcast, Michael Nardelli spoke about the upcoming sequel of CIRCLE and being Emmy-nominated for Dark/Web.Let's connect on social media! In our latest podcast episode, we delve into the provocative and timely film, **BlacKkKlansman**, directed by the ever-bold Spike Lee. This true-story adaptation follows Ron Stallworth, an African-American detective who infiltrates the Ku Klux Klan. With performances that are as compelling as the narrative, the film navigates the complexities of race, identity, and America's tumultuous history with a blend of satire, drama, and unflinching honesty. Lee's direction ensures that while the film is set in the past, its themes resonate loudly in today's society. Our discussion explores the film's layered storytelling, standout performances, and its ability to balance humor with the gravity of its message. Tune in to hear our full review and thoughts on this significant cinematic piece.
