ORIGINAL SHOW NOTES:For our 50th episode, we talk to the legend PEACHES CHRIST about one of her favorite music documentaries, D.A. Pennebaker & Chris Hegedus' DEPECHE MODE 101. We discuss why this film became Pennebaker's favorite film (over his films about Dylan & Bowie) and why the film director wasn't a fan when he first started the project, Peaches discovery and obsession with the VHS tape of this doc, how even though Depeche Mode were straight they loved their queer fans, how the band grew into a global sensation, the choices of editing in the film, how the filim was the precusor to MTV's The Real World & Road Rules, the time Peaches set the stage of her celebration of the film CARRIE on fire, John Waters & Mink Stole, youthful indescretions, the legendary film series MIDNIGHT MASS which includes drag queen rollerderbies and free lap dances with each tub of popcorn purchased, early Halloween productions in the woods, dealing with Russ Meyer, The Cockettes, the boredom and nerves of waiting to go onstage, how different the era was for the the kids in the film and how different it would be made today, the pressure of Depeche Mode playing the rose bowl, nerds as rock icon, Wax Trax Records, trying to upset your parents through your music tastes, when people who are mean to you start loving your favorite bands, Dave Gahan's stage presence, Freddie Mercury, Peaches' regrets with Depeche Mode and the band's crossover into the masses, waiting in line to get concert tickets in a mall, Robert Smith Vs. Ticketmaster, what the fans felt as Alan left Depeche Mode, the grind of band interviews, and Chris discusses the early days of his video store and the search for cult film obscurities. So let's watch the curtain drop to reveal the band on this week's Revolutions Per Movie!!! https://peacheschrist.comREVOLUTIONS PER MOVIE:Host Chris Slusarenko (Eyelids, Guided By Voices, owner of Clinton Street Video rental store) is joined by actors, musicians, comedians, writers & directors who each week pick out their favorite music documentary, musical, music-themed fiction film or music videos to discuss. On November 24, 1991, Freddie Mercury — the electrifying frontman of Queen whose operatic voice and theatrical brilliance redefined rock stardom — died at the age of 45 from complications related to AIDS, just one day after publicly confirming his diagnosis. With towering anthems like Bohemian Rhapsody, We Are the Champions, Somebody to Love, and We Will Rock You, Mercury helped transform Queen into one of the most innovative and globally beloved bands in music history, blending hard rock, glam, opera, and pop into something entirely their own. His four-octave vocal range, magnetic stage presence, and fearless individuality shattered conventions and expanded what a rock performer could be. His death, coming at a time when the AIDS crisis was still shrouded in stigma and silence, marked the end of one of music's most extraordinary voices — but cemented a legacy that continues to echo across generations. Freddie Mercury is one of the most written-about figures in rock history — and one of the most misunderstood. In this episode of My Rock Moment, Amanda Morck speaks with acclaimed rock journalist Lesley-Ann Jones about her most intimate book yet, Love, Freddie: Freddie Mercury's Secret Life and Love. Built around private journals Freddie Mercury entrusted to someone very close to him — his daughter — the book offers rare insight into a hidden part of his life, far from the stage, the myth, and the spectacle. Lesley-Ann shares how a mysterious email led her to this extraordinary material, why Freddie insisted some notebooks not be read for decades, and what they reveal about love, secrecy, sexuality, fatherhood, and the emotional cost of fame. The conversation also reexamines Mary Austin's role in Freddie's life, the profound secrecy surrounding his child, and the weight of honoring a truth Freddie never intended to be public. This is not an episode about dismantling a legacy. It's about adding dimension — about seeing Freddie Mercury not just as an icon, but as a deeply human man shaped by fear, devotion, contradiction, and love. Zandra Rhodes is a true British original, as integral to the creative iconography of British culture as Bowie, Ab Fab and the Spice Girls; an independent fashion designer who kick-started her career as a student on the Pop Art scene with David Hockney in London the 1960s; who built a successful global fashion empire in the 70s and 80s beloved by Jackie Kennedy, Freddie Mercury, Diana Ross, Princess Diana and Cher; and who, in the face of dwindling popularity in the 90s when her exuberant prints were no match for the grunge and minimalism trends of the era, pivoted to launch the Fashion and Textile Museum and designing costumes for the opera. The through line to all of this has been her innovative use of sketch and pattern as a founding block of her design; a love of travel and a delight in absorbing the world around her into her work; and her deep-rooted friendships with the likes of artists Andrew Logan, David Sassoon and Duggie Fields. Diagnosed with cancer in 2020, the electric-pink haired  Dame Zandra has defied the grim diagnosis and remains as exuberant and erudite as ever, quick to throw out a throaty chuckle and share a salty anecdote with her trademark gregariousness. As The Holburne Musuem in Bath, England, stages a retrospective of her famous prints, the 85-year old takes a moment out of her jam-packed schedule to talk to Danielle Radojcin about just what it is that makes her keep on keeping on…

Under discussion here … … ‘David Bowie was a fictional invention and much of his life an act' … how wrong so many album reviews turned out to be … “he liked to be liked and he put a lot of effort into being liked” … Eno, Tony Visconti, Nile Rodgers, Pet Shop Boys and his endless search for collaborators … the Lucian Freud incident at the Dorchester … Scott Walker's taped message: “I see God in the window” ... “he trusted in the idea he was a genius” … the sharp contrast been his public image and private life … how his Lord's Prayer at the Freddie Mercury tribute was a deliberate attempt to steal the show … the piercing question Tin Machine were asked on ‘Wogan' … and the struggle to find anything sincere in his interviews. in recent times, the film world's powers that be have mercifully decided that biographies chronicling the lives of nobodies like Freddie Mercury, Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen are no longer necessary, instead trying to mollify us with the saga  of a Neil Diamond tribute act. While I would not necessarily describe this as progress, it does slightly open a window of possibility of a forthcoming feature film telling the story of STUPIFY, one of Cleveland's top 5 or 6 Disturbed tribute bands. Could such a project be some sort of karmic payback for Michael Chiklis, who suffered so many slings and arrows (well, mostly arrows) for being cast as John Belushi in “Wired”? I'd love to get into all of it during this week's show, however East Village Radio only grants me 120 minutes a week and this subject really requires ten, nay, one hundred times that. I don't think you're quite ready for the One Hundred Hours That Feels Like Two Hundred Hours (I'm certainly not).

The biggest country hits of 2025 tell a story the charts won't say out loud: radio still gives men the mic. We dig into the top spins, trace the patterns behind programming decisions, and ask whether “audience demand” is real taste or a habit formed by gatekeepers. From Morgan Wallen's multi-track dominance to a rare female breakout, we map how rotation rules, label strategies, and collaboration trends keep certain voices front and center while others fight uphill. We also widen the lens beyond airplay. Miranda Lambert's new unscripted series brings her storytelling grit to TV, proving artists can grow cultural impact even when radio lanes narrow. Bailey Zimmerman's viral generosity toward his mom, Jesse Keith Whitley's hard restart, and the passing of Opry great Stu Phillips remind us why country resonates: real stakes, real lives, and communities that show up. Add in a spirited debate on performance and vocal power—a live bracket spanning Freddie Mercury, Steve Perry, Prince, and Geoff Tate—and we hit the sweet spot where craft and showmanship meet legacy and data. Spoiler: a theatrical rock titan takes the crown. You'll also get a clear explainer on RIAA certifications, a peek into Cody Johnson's authenticity test for outside cuts, quick-hit chart rundowns across country and indie lanes, and a stack of listener questions on A&R, artist development costs, and the manager roles that actually move careers. We keep it candid, practical, and human—equal parts industry intel and fan-heart fuel.If this conversation challenged your assumptions or gave you something worth sharing, tap follow, send it to a friend, and leave a quick review. Music Is the Key to Accent Reduction?

A few years ago, my wife and I went to see the movie Bohemian Rhapsody. When I was a kid, I remember hearing Another One Bites the Dust and We Are the Champions, but I was by no means a Queen fan. I was surprised, though, how many songs from the movie I knew every word to.But, I have to admit, the most surprising thing to me was that Freddie Mercury was a Persian Indian man who lived in England. When I listened to the songs, there was no Persian accent. No Indian accent. And there was no British accent. It reminded me of a conversation I had with one of my instructors who specialized in accent reduction. She told me that, “Music is the secret weapon for accent reduction. When people sing, everyone sounds like they speak American English with no accent.”English is a musical language. If it were a band, it wouldn't be a quiet little string quartet. It would be a jazz ensemble — bold, abrasive, and filled to the brim with rhythm and melody changes. And to speak American English fluently, you have to master those rhythmic and melodic changes. There are three main components that influence your accent:-- Vowel Sounds (consonant and vowel pronunciation)-- Rhythm (stress patterns between words and syllables)--Intonation (the rise and fall of pitch in a sentence)Music mimics all three of these elements, and trains your ears and mouth at the same time. So, on this episode, I'm going to break each of these three items down and look at how real language learners have used music and speech techniques to achieve clearer communication.By the way, although this episode is focusing on the non-native English speaker, the tips can help anyone who wants to become a better presenter. If you think of great speakers like MLK, one of the reasons why he was so popular was that he spoke with a rhythm. You can do something similar to captivate your audiences as well.Show Notes: Music 101: A Musical Guide to Accent Reduction(https://www.fearlesspresentations.com/music-101-the-key-to-accent-reduction/)

RUNDOWN   We're celebrating the start of Year 8 of Mitch Unfiltered! Mitch checks in from Las Vegas—oddly with zero urge to gamble—while Hotshot breaks down his old roulette system and the painful bad beat that once drove him out of Vegas for years. Mitch and Hotshot geek out over the new Eddie Murphy documentary, then Mitch tells his favorite 10-seconds-of-fame story — yelling a deep-cut sketch line to Murphy at a 1985 stand-up show and getting singled out from the stage. They pivot to the Seahawks' 30–24 "no-win" win in Nashville, weighing how worried to be about letting a 30–10 lead shrink, while marveling at Jaxon Smith-Njigba's obscene pace (already breaking the single-season franchise yardage mark in 11 games) and explaining why Rams-Bucs, common opponents, and divisional records mean Seattle may need both a win over the 49ers and help from the lowly Cardinals to take the NFC West. Steve Phillips joins Mitch to unpack Seattle's near–World Series run — from Julio Rodríguez's late-season surge to the Game 7 choices that doomed the Mariners, including pulling George Kirby too early and avoiding Andrés Muñoz in the highest-leverage spot. He explains why modern analytics can mislead managers, why Aaron Judge rightfully edged Cal Raleigh for MVP despite East Coast conspiracy theories, and why extending Josh Naylor was the right call even if the back-end years sting. Brady and Jacson join Mitch to break down Seattle's 30–24 win over the Titans — a game that was far closer than it should've been against the NFL's worst roster. They dissect the defensive lapses (two long late TD drives, missed tackles, fatigue), Sam Darnold's clean but risky performance (a couple near-picks, heavy JSN dependence), and a quietly emerging run game anchored by Walker and Charbonnet. Rick Neuheisel joins Mitch to reset the entire college football landscape heading into rivalry week — from Washington's shot at a season-defining upset over Oregon to the seismic consequences of an eight-win finish versus nine. He breaks down the transfer-portal era attrition at programs like UCLA, the SEC's multi-team playoff math (with Alabama's "brand advantage"), and why chaos in Austin, Baton Rouge, and Oxford could reshape the playoff bracket if Lane Kiffin jumps jobs before December 3rd.   GUESTS   Steve Phillips | Former Mets GM & MLB Analyst (SiriusXM / MLB Network) Brady Henderson | Seahawks Insider, ESPN Jacson Bevens | Writer, Cigar Thoughts Rick Neuheisel | CBS College Football Analyst, Former Head Coach & Rose Bowl Champion   TABLE OF CONTENTS   0:00 | Mitch Turns 8 (Seasons), Vegas Without Gambling, and a Birthday Tour Through Sports, History… and Freddie Mercury 12:00 | BEAT THE BOYS - Register at MitchUnfiltered.com 16:09 | Eddie Murphy, Clint, and a Nervy 8–3: Seahawks Survive Titans While JSN Flirts with 2,000 Yards 40:55 | GUEST: Steve Phillips; Steve Phillips on the Mariners' Game 7 Collapse, Cal Raleigh's MVP Near-Miss, and Seattle's Offseason Decisions 1:05:13 | GUEST: Seahawks No-Table; Seahawks Escape Tennessee, Move to 8–3, and Reveal Both Promise and Warning Signs in Nashville 1:27:51 | GUEST: Rick Neuheisel; Rick Neuheisel on Washington–Oregon Stakes, Lane Kiffin Chaos, and a Wild Final Push Toward the Playoff 2:01:20 | Other Stuff Segment: NFL players spitting incidents (Jalen Carter, Jamar Chase, Jalen Ramsey, Boise State, massive fines for spitting), Mariners non-tender Gregory Santos after almost never pitching, questions about how MLB trade physicals get passed, Dodgers Game 7 World Series home run balls (Miguel Rojas, Will Smith) both caught by same father/son and later underperforming at auction, Lane Kiffin's reported choice between Ole Miss, LSU, and Florida with a 7-year $98M deal and $25M/year in NIL money, UW women's soccer upsets #1 Virginia 10v11, Belichick family blowup, Chris Paul announces plans to retire after the 25–26 season and reflects on a Hall of Fame point guard career, Boris Becker (age 58) welcomes baby daughter, Kevin Spacey claims to be essentially homeless and working as a lounge singer in Cyprus, Ace Frehley's famous smoking sunburst Les Paul goes up for auction, RIPs: Rodney Rogers — Wake Forest star and 12-year NBA forward, dies at 54, Jellybean Johnson — drummer for The Time, dies at 69, Randy "Junkman" Jones — Padres legend, dies after a long career in and around baseball, HEADLINEs: Airport bulge turns out to be two endangered parakeets, Interstate flasher "needed excitement", Two Texas men plot to invade a Haitian island and enslave everyone, Failed threesome leads woman to beat up her boyfriend, Study says Viagra may help with hearing loss.
