This episode of Seeing Them Live features an in-depth and in-person conversation with Ray the Roadie and Hollywood Mike, hosts of the Rock and Roll Chicago podcast. Joined by producer and co-host Doug Florzak, the episode was recorded inside the Illinois Rock and Roll Museum on Route 66 in downtown Joliet, Illinois, where the Rock and Roll Chicago podcast is also recorded. The Rock and Roll Chicago podcast provides a platform for bands and musicians from the Chicago area, delving into the history of rock and roll in Chicago and Illinois, the current scene, and the challenges and opportunities for musicians today. Mike and Ray share humorous anecdotes, such as Mike jokingly proposing 'The Procrastinators' as a name for his next punk band, and Mike mentioning his varied musical activities, including performing with bands like Cadillac Groove and Mike and the Stillmasters, and his solo work. Mike also uncovers a rich musical heritage after meeting a cousin who fronts a Zydeco band in Louisiana, leading him to discover his extended family's significant contributions to various facets of the entertainment industry. Ray recounts his multifaceted career journey, involving roadie work, being a firefighter for 28 years, and later diving back into music and podcasting post-retirement. Personal anecdotes include Ray's memories of his first concert, seeing Chicago Transit Authority, and his best concert experience with ZZ Top, where he enjoyed backstage access and partied with the band. Mike fondly recalls his first concert, a Billy Squire show with Def Leppard as the opener, and his best concert experience, which was a transformative Buddy Guy performance that inspired him to become a musician. The episode concludes with Ray and Mike previewing their plans for upcoming podcast episodes and discussing the Illinois Rock and Roll Museum's ongoing development and various exhibits, including guitars from Buddy Guy, and its status as a non-profit organization reliant on donations and memberships for support.BANDS: 4 Non-Blondes, Alison Krauss, Billy Joel, Billy Squire, Buddy Guy, Cadillac Groove, Def Leppard, Flat Cats, Iron Maiden, Joker, Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Mabel's, Mike and the Still Masters, Outlaws, Rage Against A Machine, REO Speedwagon, REM, Robert Plant, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Train, Vulgar Boatmen, Wrought Iron Soul, ZZ Top.VENUES: Alpine Valley, Chicago Theater, El Macomber, Illinois Rock and Roll Museum, Illinois Rock and Roll Museum on Route 66, International Amphitheater, Mabel's, Ravinia, Rialto Square Theater, Rosemount Horizon, Route 66, Taste of Westmont, The Amphitheater, The Flat Cats, The Forge, The Riviera Theater. We kick off the episode with a coronation of the one man who had the most hit songs (5) as the lead singer for five different groups, plus a solo act... he's the lead singer version of Michael McDonald. Then, it's the Billy Squire game! The interim producer thought he only knew The Stroke, and we make bets on how many Squier songs he'll actually know. Finally, the main attraction... an analysis of the top 5 songs on each of our Spotify Wrapped lists for 2024.

Just before I sat down for this episode, I was on the phone with a client who had just received a job offer. It was such a celebration. She overcame career disruption! And not only that, she still has interviews in her pipeline which she fully intends to see though. Who knows? She might get a better offer. While we were talking, I suddenly remembered the Billy Squire song, and said to her "Everybody wants you!"What a power sentence! Whether your outward circumstances match or not, thinking "Everybody wants me" is an affirmation that can only help you navigate the craziness that comes with a job search. So, for this episode, I'm throwing back to one from late 2022 about how to overcome career disruption. It's one of my favorites because the techniques I teach you are tried and true for me and the hundreds of clients I've helped land jobs and make career pivots. Enjoy!

In 1981, the launch of MTV coincided with the rise of Billy Squier, and the two were a match made in pop culture heaven. The year ended with a singalong performance of his holiday single, “Christmas Is The Time to Say I Love You,” filmed at the MTV studios in New York City and aired as MTV's first Christmas special. All five original MTV VeeJays were a part of the choir: Mark Goodman, Martha Quinn, Nina Blackwood, Alan Hunter, and the late J.J. Jackson, and the moment captured both the energy of those early MTV true believers and the spirit of the season. In a twist of irony, it was another video released a few years later that got Squier into hot water with his fans! Unwrap the history in this episode of the Behind The Song podcast. On this episode of THE CLASSIC METAL SHOW, Neeley and Chris talk about how masculine Billy Squier was prior to the "Rock Me Tonite" video. They also talk about how George Thorogood was average, but his muscular guitar sound elevated his ordinary songs. **NOTE: Everything said here, and on every episode of all of our shows are 100% the opinions of the hosts. When I say the name Udo Dirkschneider, what do you envision? I would think your brain might automatically take you to the early 1980's, when his iconic West German metal band, ACCEPT, ruled the charts with the classic "Balls to the wall."Like you, I go there too, because well... this was a moment that you don't forget. That said, I've kept an eye on him over the years and watched his legend grow along with his never ending passion for entertaining his audience. He's the biggest and brightest from a generation of musicians that have died off or retired.Would I mention the word retirement around UDO? Not on your life. His new album, My Way, is a collection of cover songs pinpointing moments in UDO's life that he, in turn, thought we might also enjoy....and enjoy we do. Whether it's Queen, Tina Turner, or Billy Squire, UDO has it covered. Please enjoy my chat with a wonderful kind bear hug of a man. 065 - Steve Conte“Have Guitar Will Travel” episode 65 features host James Patrick Regan speaking with guitarist/vocalist Steve Conte. An educated jazzer and proficient solo artist, for his new album, “Bronx Cheer,” Conte teamed with fellow guitarist Chris Spedding and drummer Charlie Drayton. Conte himself started on drums as a kid, but jumped to guitar and has backed Paul Simon, Billy Squire, Willie DeVille, Peter Wolf, and the New York Dolls both with original frontman David Johansson, and now, with Michael Monroe. For more than 20 years, he has also sung and played music for the sci-fi series/movie “Cowboy Bebop” and other animé programs. Always a gearhead, they talk about the instruments and amps that have accompanied him throughout his career. Please like, comment, and share this podcast! Download Link
This episode is one of my favorites. Eric Martin hits on Herbie Herbert, Chris Jericho and Fozzy, along with incredible stories from an incredible career.... Eric Martin started his career singing at the end of the 70's for a San Francisco band called 415. With 415, Eric played hundreds of shows opening for established act like Billy Squire, Hall & Oats, Journey, ZZ Top and Foreigner to name a few. 415 was signed to Elektra/Asylum records and “Sucker for a pretty face” was released after a name change to the Eric Martin Band (EMB). In 1988-89, Eric would team up with Billy Sheehan, Pat Torpey and Paul Gilbert to form Mr. Big. They would enjoy enormous success with the release of many studio albums, numerous hit singles and top-selling live cd's. Combined, worldwide sales topped the 7 million mark. Mr. Big's second album, 1991's Lean Into It, was a major commercial breakthrough, especially two ballads, "To Be with You" (which went to number one in fifteen countries) and "Just Take My Heart", as well as the song "Green-Tinted Sixties Mind"

A computer glitch had people's radio display saying that every song was Billy Squire's "The Stroke" ...of the course that wasn't the case but John had to get to the bottom of it!
Ken and guest co-host Chris Covert welcome New Jersey's own Matt O'Ree to the show, who discusses how listening to Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn sent him down a path of blues that saw him play with BB King, Buddy Guy, and what it's like to get a call from Bon Jovi to pack your bags, you're coming on tour. Plus he lays out his love for Van Halen and Billy Squire. This is a fun one!
We found ourselves sans "Creature Feature" again this week. But no matter, as there was enough going on in the World of Heavy Metal to grab our attention. The month of August has some off the beaten path anniversaries. Death Metal legends Cannibal Corpse dropped their infamous debut this month in '90. As well, this is the 20th anniversary of Go-Gos vocalist Belinda Carlisle appearing Playboy(!) But honestly... we read the article too! Finally, we share our theory of 80's hard rocker Billy Squire being the original Rage Against The Machine(!!) In our "News, Views, and Tunes", we go over our "Metal Fix" and crank tunage from the aforementioned C.C. + new and used from Negative Approach, Vincent Crowley, Acid Witch, Wormwitch, Pantychrist and the amazing Lingua Ignota! The perfect women - where did they find these flawless vixens? Robbie-Ann's exposure to new music not being played on the radio. Split Enz, Talking Heads and weird haircuts. Robbie-Ann's philosophy about the lie of music genre marketing. The segmentation of MTV. David Lee Roth's iconic videos, including the meta "Just a Gigolo" MTV parody. Did abstract artsy videos mean something or were they just weird? Lisa Vanderpump's cameo in ABC's "Look of Love" and "Poison Arrow." Icon/Goddess Stevie Nicks and her scarves, walking on a treadmill. What the heck were The Fixx videos about? Peter Gabriel's dancing chickens. Amy's analysis of "Material Girl." Mall bangs: a how-to. Videos that ruined the song. Marylin Martin's great 80s song "Night Moves" becomes a goofy vampire story. Superstar Pat Benatar's fantastic song "Shadows of the Night" is set to a bizarre WWII spy drama. Amy's assertion that 90% of the videos were cheesy. Amy's daily viewing of Bananarama's "Venus," and her realization that it was a silly devil story video. Vampires: the go-to video gotcha. Robbie-Ann defends Billy Squire's "Rock Me Tonight" song against its video treatment. The Cars' innovative "You Might Think" video. Did it beat "Thriller" for Video of the Year?! Amy finds out. The Go-Gos. Wham! Record labels discover MTV as a selling tool. Did MTV torpedo the stellar Christopher Cross' career? Robbie-Ann defends Christopher Cross's handsome-ness. Amy's fear of Prince. Dropping the needle in this episode of Behind The Vinyl: Kim Mitchell gets to the bottom of his song “Go For Soda” and how it really has nothing to do with drinking, but rather... relationships. A rap history lesson from Canadian hip-hop legend Maestro Fresh-Wes about how “Let Your Backbone Slide” was influenced by rocker Billy Squire. Darby Mills, formally of the Headpins shares one of her favourite memories about meeting a “demon” while going into detail about their song “Don't It Make Ya Feel”. If you had other plans, put them on hold! It’s time to Rock Me Tonight with Billy Squire as we continue our near-death mini-series Kill The Video Star. It’s the chilling tale of one early 80s rocker meeting his untimely career death via poorly choreographed dance routine. Virgin puppets, floor writhing, silk sheet mountains, hotness exhaustion, aggressive finger snaps, fashion smelting, and rock’s answer to Ed Grimley. All this and we get to the bottom of something that sadly plagues too many men: premature shirt-ripping. Join up with your unsuccessful clones and listen, won’t you? Trey Shannon returns to discuss several options to get in better shape for racing and life that can be done with or without a gym. We talk through a wide variety of ways to shave pounds off each car you drive by carrying fewer (extra) pounds in the driver seat. Trey usually works with several pro level drivers and many with professional aspirations. Podium Performance not only deals with physical preparation, but mental, visual, and many other related areas that can impact your driving performance, especially in long races or races with challenging conditions like heat etc. If you happen to live in the Charlotte NC area, Trey is local to you and he works out of Podium Performance Fitness at www.podiumperformancefitness.com or 540-815-2737. We discuss the relative importance of driving perfect lines versus driving with full commitment on our Dominating with Dawson. This philosophy was brought up to Bill at a recent HPDE last summer and had a dramatic improvement on his lap times at the event. Maybe Bill was too smooth (for the first time in his life). We hope you enjoy this episode! Best regards, Vicki, Jennifer, Alan, and Bill Hosts of the Garage Heroes In Training Podcast and Garage Heroes In Training racing team drivers Highlights from this episode include: 1) The podcast starts with a reference that won’t make sense unless you listen to the post credits. Is it worth it to make it all that way? TBD, but we hope so. 2) What would a good starting point program look like to get into shape or back into shape. 3) Trey also offers many suggestions for activities that can be done with body weight only or minimal equipment that you may have at home already. 4) Leopard crawls: what Bill usually has to do to get a new race car. 5) RPPWFB. Familiar? Its an oldie, but a goodie around here. 6) How often to work out and how long can be very dependent on your starting condition, but something is always better than zero. 7) Remember, getting into better shape does not mean becoming a better circle or more round. 8) How has exercise and people’s dietary habits been affected by the COVID induced isolation? Trey also goes into several online options to look for guidance at home, many of which are available for free on YouTube etc. 9) Trey also goes into the additional intensity that tempo can offer if you have limited weight at home. Bill dates himself with a Billy Squire reference. Trey being much cooler (and much younger) makes Flower by Moby reference. Both are tremendously effective ways to raise your pulse and intensity, even with light or very light weights. 10) Basic, fundamental diet discussion that leads to portion size control as a great place to start and work from, as well as the benefits of establishing an eating schedule. 11) Trey expands upon the one key principle that everyone needs to keep in mind, you cannot out work a bad diet, but you can easily out eat any workout program. 12) Vicki finds that the Noom app is very helpful for her to help control her diet and food consumption. 13) If you are very interested in the aspects of nutrition and diet, please look to working with a nutritionist to determine your exact needs and perhaps any food allergies etc. Even Trey’s team works with a nutritionist with several of his clients. 14) Why does it always come back to Slurpee’s with Bill? Trey tolerates it a bit and then they come up with a potential plan for controlling the craving for something while retaining control of your dietary inputs. 15) How to start with small steps and changes to begin a path towards huge results. Trey also goes into a planning approach to be ready for next season. 16) Slurpee substitute smoothie is included below. 17) Several gift tips for holiday gifts to help get in shape this year. 18) Vicki looks for tips from Trey on how to ease into a fitness and diet program, while secretly just trying to control Bill. 19) Hard Hog makes its first appearance in the fitness lexicon. We shall see if it catches on. Also, this proves that Vicki doesn’t just make up terms in racing. 20) Approaches for working with and around any prior injuries, pain, or joint issues. Some of the online or at home programs we discussed include: Tone It Up, several Beach Body programs, The Mirror, Peloton, among a near limitless number of potential alternatives. Bill makes a commitment to Trey that the next time he is on there with be 25 pounds less of Bill. We really hope we see Trey again. Lol. Anyone interested in joining Bill in the contest, please let us know. We all know he loves a competition and is more than willing to bet many stickers etc. And Trey’s smoothie recipe is as follows: you can put in pretty much whatever you want, but I usually make mine two at a time, and I include the below ingredients. 1 Banana 1 Cup Strawberries 1/2 Cup Blueberries 1/2 Avocado 1/2 Cup Spinach 1 Multivitamin Dash of Cinnamon Dash of Turmeric 1/2 Serving BCAA Powder (Amino Acids - this is where the Slurpee flavor comes from) 1/2 Serving Protein Powder - Vanilla Water (maybe a little bit of nut milk in there too) For the strawberries and blueberries, I buy frozen bags. This makes things much easier, plus fruit that has been picked and almost immediately frozen tends to be slightly more nutrient rich than the "fresh" counterpart. I'll freeze my own bananas, as I have yet to find pre-frozen bags of those. #hardhog #garageheroesintraining #garageheroesintrainingpodcast #treyshannon #podiumperformancefitness

Hellooo fellow degenerates. The Trio welcomes back the brilliant, the hilarious, the deranged Scotty Monahan. After reviewing a new beer we go straight into the poo-litical talk where Scotty drops some knowledge. The coronavirus is taking over the world but that isn't stopping Beer Can Billy from getting his drink on or Bruce from defending Woody Allen to the bitter end. We discuss Pro-wrestling, Opie and Anthony, and that Raven's cheerleader who banged her son's friend. Corey Feldman's latest craziness creeps into the conversation along with Sleepy Joe Biden, Scott's famous Uncle Pat, and Billy Squire dancing like Guinea John at home alone on a Friday night. So many topics, so few characters allowed for description. Stay safe, keep your distance and never accept a scratch off from Beer Can Billy. DOWNLOAD, LIKE, SUBSCRIBE, SHARE!
In 1984, Billy Squire released a hugely successful single called Rock Me Tonite. In the burgeoning MTV era, music videos were inexorably linked to the featured singles. Squier later blamed the video for the downturn in his popularity. We ask – why? The Blasftrom crew dance around the issues of Hard Rock masculinity, music video direction, choreography, set dressing, war, politics and animal welfare. You can listen to this episode of the Blastfrom Castfrom on Spotify, Soundcloud and Apple Podcasts.

Chris and Mark talk about strokes! They cover everything from bleeds to blockage and how to fix it all. An important message about how to recognize a stroke is also delivered. Chris annoyingly flaunts finally being right about something, while our listeners pointed out that we were both wrong about two things: Mark meant to say Billy Squire instead of Billy Idol. 2) Mark mistakenly stated Kussmauls instead of Cheyne-Stokes respiration with Cushings Triad. Chris then celebrated Mark's usage of big words.
Some bands in Troy and Randy's minds were not Metal, but they could have easily have been, if they had changed a thing or two. Of course, the boys don't see eye to eye on each of the 10 separate bands they discuss on this episode of Ouch You're on my Hair. None the less, they do bring some heavyweight bands to the plate and a few not so heavyweights. Bands such as Boston, Heart, Billy Idol, Queen, Billy Squire and so many more. On this episode, make sure you check out the awesome sounds of the Irish band Amongst the Wolves. This alternative/punk/metal band will have you wanting to grab a pint and throw up some Erin Go Brah's. A cool band with a really cool sound. A discussion about Billy Squire's "The Stroke" got us talking about the racy music of the 80s and 90s.
Ryan made it on time this week, and he came through the door with AMAZING video from the 80’s tucked under his arm. But more on that in a minute. I came through the door with a bundle of pre-packaged Buttery Nipple shots, and let me say they were exactly as delicious as you might think. For our album this week, Kevin picked “The Modern Lovers” 1976 Eponymous album. All I had known about The Modern Lovers prior to this listen was that Jonathan Richman was the main dude, and all I knew about Jonathan Richman prior to this listen was he was in that movie where Ben Stiller got his dick stuck in his zipper. But I’m sure glad I got the chance to listen to it. Buy "The Modern Lovers" on Amazon ### A Few Minutes With ### For A Few Minutes With, Ryan brought us [“Rock You Tonite”](https://youtu.be/fR0j7sModCI) and he is 2 for 2 with mind blowing videos from the 80’s (the other one being Van Halen’s incredible “Pretty Woman”. This video is often said to have essentially ended Billy Squire’s career, and having seen it I can see why. I HIGHLY encourage repeated viewings. A Current Affair I Chose “Crush” by Tahiti 80 for A Current Affair, and we answer the question “Are they still a band?” (hint-the answer is yes). Coming Up Ok, we’re super excited because next week Chris Cox is guesting on the show and he picked Sonic Youth’s 1990 record “Goo” for us to discuss. I’m sure hi-jinks will ensue. See you then.
Billy Squire and the MTV VJ's? Tight playoff races in the NFL? Rondo to Dallas and an angry Ted? All this and more as Eric and Ted's Ice Cream Social says Merry Christmas and happy holidays to the Social family! Take an hour and be a better sports fan!
SANCHEZ flies solo this week as he reflects on Christmas past. This is an opportunity for SANCHEZ to run down his favorite Christmas songs, gifts, movies and wrestling moments. Thanks to Weird Al, Billy Squire and fake "GNR's" White Christmas. Thanks to Stitcher Radio for allowing us to join your family of shows. @DMTAMpod on Twitter. MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL from Don't Make This About Me!
