This week on Headline Highlights, federal agents raided the controversial 7M TikTok cult, targeting a pastor and a talent agency at the center of the investigation. A woman was charged with murder after her missing husband's body was found in a carport. In Encino, California, an American Idol executive and her husband were found murdered in their home, sending shockwaves through the entertainment world. In Bibb County, Alabama, authorities uncovered a disturbing child sex abuse ring operating out of an underground bunker. A father was charged with the murder of his 9-year-old daughter, just hours after issuing a misleading Amber Alert. And in a heartbreaking tragedy at Devil's Den State Park, two young girls witnessed their parents' brutal murder while on a family hike.

I was in a zoom meeting today, the speaker was unable to make it and the secretary suggested a quick group consensus about playing this recording at the meeting thinking it would make a good discussion topic. As it turned out it did. I did notice the part where Barry plays a recording of Bill W speaking on the 3rd tradition was muddy so I went back at it and managed to improve Bills audio quality enough I thought it worth a new upload. Barry L sober in 1945, speaking about the origin of the 3rd tradition at the 50th World Conference in Montreal in July 1985. He was (arguably) the first openly gay member of AA.  Tradition 3 - The only requirement for A.A. membership is a desire to stop drinking. Barry passed away 3 weeks after this speak. Barry is the author of the book Living Sober and was a great friend of Bill W and his wife Lois. In 1978 Lois gave the original manuscript of the big book to Barry, and in 1979 Barry signed a notarized letter gifting the manuscript to A.A. World Services. In exchange, he asked only to be able to keep it in his possession until his death. Somewhere between 1979 and Barry's death in 1985, everyone at A.A. World Services apparently forgot about this arrangement. The whereabouts of the manuscript remained unknown until it reappeared at an auction house in 2004, sold by a “Joseph B.” for $1.5 million. It was auctioned again in 2007 to Alabama resident Ken Roberts for $992,000.  A few months later, according to court documents, A.A. World Services rediscovered Barry's notarized letter and tried to legally regain possession, they failed. In 2018 the manuscript was once again auctioned off, this time for $2.4 million. He's also a father, a conservationist, a lifelong whitetail and turkey hunter, sauger and bass fisherman. In 1985, Charles McCrory found his wife, Julie Bonds, brutally murdered in their Andalusia, Alabama, home. Just two small marks on her arm—misrepresented in court as a definitive “bite mark”—became the sole forensic evidence used to convict him for her murder.A forensic odontologist, famed for testifying at Ted Bundy's trial, claimed the impressions matched McCrory's like a fingerprint. Yet decades later, that same expert fully recanted the testimony, acknowledging the scientific consensus now recognises bite mark evidence as unreliable “junk science”.With no blood, no DNA, and hair in the victim's hand that didn't match McCrory's, his conviction rested entirely on this flawed forensic interpretation. Over 40 years later, even as two independent forensic dentists testified that the so called bite mark was never human, Alabama courts repeatedly denied him a new trial, judging that his lengthy imprisonment still stood, and that procedural hurdles outweighed modern scienceIn July 2024, the U.S. Supreme Court refused to review his case.
