Podcast Episode Transcript: Crystal Confab Podcast Introduction: Are you just starting with crystals? Or maybe you have a whole collection but aren't sure how to use them? Join four crystal nerds, healers, workers, and lovers for a casual chat about all things crystals. Adam Barralet: Hello, and welcome to this week's episode of crystal confab. Each week, we like to talk about things that are buried in the ground and have been waiting for a long, long time for us to discover them. But today, we're doing something a little bit different because we won't be talking about a crystal. We're gonna be exploring the world of fossils and things like amylenite and ammolite. So I'm gonna be honest with you. Fossils don't really thrill me. So I've set a challenge to the other three to see if they can win me over by the end of the episode. So to dive in and explore these, welcome, Kyle, Nicholas, and Ashley. Kyle, I know you like the ammolites and ammonites. Talk us a little bit through them. Kyle Perez: Well, for me, I am kind of like you in the way that I'm not a huge fossil person, but I know other people around the confab are much much bigger. I will start with fossil light, ammolite. But what I wanna talk about first is what I've seen as an explosion of interest in fossils recently. I don't know if the rest of you have seen this as well, but last year at the gem show that I worked at, people gave no crap about the crystals. I had to learn on the fly about the fossils that we had because that's where a huge amount of interest was. Our ammolite shells, our ammonites, the megalodon teeth, like amber, green ambers, all of these sorts of things were, like, really exciting. Have you seen that sort of thing, or is it maybe just a niche thing that's happening here? Nicholas Pearson: Yeah. I'm pretty much seeing it industry wide, but I would love to say that it's probably people like Ashley and me who might be bringing some more crystal folks to the dark side. I haven't been to any, like, really big trade shows in a hot minute, but I know Ashley frequents them. So she might have some more insight there too. Ashley Leavy: Yeah. I think if I really reflect on it, the fossil boots might have been a little bit busier than they normally are. Usually, I'm one of, like, two or three people shopping at those booths for the store. So maybe that is the case. I haven't noticed it yet trending amongst the crystally people, the healy feelies, like all of us. I feel like I'm always being like the fossil evangelist out there, trying to get people to appreciate them a little bit. I know Nicholas is the same. We actually did an amazing event last year hosted by Anwen Avalon who did, like, a fossil symposium, and it was Anwen, Nicholas, myself, Brett Holyhead, and Moss Matthew. And it was just, like, five days of fossils, and it was super fun. But that is very much not the norm. I think it takes a little, a little bit of special interest to get people going. Are you captivated by the ancient wisdom of fossils? Elemental energies shape the world and guide our spiritual practice. By working with fossils, you can access these ancient forces and bring balance, empowerment, and connection into your life. That's why I created the Fossils for Elemental Magic Course—a beginner-friendly journey into the magic of Earth, Water, Air, Fire, and Spirit. In this course, you'll explore how fossils act as conduits for elemental energy, empowering you to align with nature's forces in your rituals, divination, and healing work.

The trilogy of books tells the story of Anwen, a Druid Priestess in late 5th Century Wales. All three books dive deep into the Celtic Dark Age, portraying the period including Anwen's training on the Priestess Isle and how she, together with Merlin, Arthur and her Lady Sister Priestesses put the final pieces in place for the Druid's secret plan to preserve their wisdom for future generations. Anwen's story empowers us as individuals and aids in the much-needed return to honoring the Divine Feminine. ~From Dale: Shellie's telling of her path toward this work is a great example of how we can look for clues along the way in life that take us out of the mundane and into the realm of the Sacred. This title was released in January 2024. It will be exclusively available to buy from the Big Finish website until 31 March 2024, and on general sale after this date. A child goes missing in a small Welsh town. As Rhys grows closer to the traumatised Catherine and her husband, he discovers that something is badly wrong in their remote cottage. There are scratches in the plaster, little wooden figures hidden in the walls, and next-door neighbour Mr Collins isn't what he seems. Will you join them at the festival of darkness? Recorded on: 9 June 2023 Recorded at: The Soundhouse Stewart Pringle said: "We've really been enjoying writing for the characters who are slightly on the periphery of the Torchwood organisation. The ones who have a more ambiguous, precarious relationship to the weirdness that's going on around them. Rhys feels like the ultimate example of that. “When we meet Rhys in Poppet he's also a man on the run, in hiding after the events of Children of Earth, and here he's briefly separated from Gwen and Anwen too. He's vulnerable, anonymous, he has none of the power or protection of Torchwood. He misses his family. He misses them so much. And he's going to meet something absolutely horrifying.” Lauren Mooney added: “We've written about folk traditions before, like the Mari Lywd in our first Torchwood story, The Grey Mare, and poppets are from the same sort of world, I guess. “They're little wooden dolls, human effigies used in sympathetic magic and, pleasingly, they sometimes turn up in the chimneys of old houses. Sometimes they've been put there for protection, and sometimes quite the opposite. “There's something quite spooky about the thought that you could be living alongside these old charms and symbols for years and years without knowing they were there, and that was where the story began.” Actor Kai Owen said: “The story of Poppet is an absolute belter. A story full of witchcraft and mystery and some very creepy characters. Rhys gets involved – as he always does – and finds himself landed in a world where he's sort of lost without his wife but his own experience of being in the world of Torchwood somehow gets him out of it. “I think it's entertaining to see somebody out of their comfort zone – a normal guy in this extraordinary world and I think that's what makes it interesting. It's been a joy to record.” Arbel Jones, Kai Owen, Scott Arthur, Emily Burnett, Sion Tudor Owen

It's Buffy's 17th Birthday and the Scooby gang are planning a surprise party. You would think that Buffy has enough things jumping out at her from the dark, but she seems really moved by the effort her friends put in. This is the Hellmouth, though, so her party is interrupted by vampires and a severed arm in a box. Penny and special guest Anwen discuss romance, vengeance, ethics, vampire makeup and fangs and have a grand time doing it. For the hosts, viewing the show with the accumulated wisdom of the last 25 years of life changes how they relate to the characters. How has your life changed Buffy for you? Or, if this is your first time watching, we'd love to hear from you about how the show holds up to fresh viewers. H. White's The Sword in the Stone, which I (Robin) was struggling to remember! One Thursday afternoon the boys were doing their archery as usual. There were two straw targets fifty yards apart, and when they had shot their arrows at one, they had only to go to it, collect them, and shoot back at the other, after facing about. It was still the loveliest summer weather, and there had been chicken for dinner, so that Merlyn had gone off to the edge of their shooting-ground and sat down under a tree. What with the warmth and the chicken and the cream he had poured over his pudding and the continual repassing of the boys and the tock of the arrows in the targets—which was as sleepy to listen to as the noise of a lawn-mower or of a village cricket match – and what with the dance of the egg-shaped sunspots between the leaves of his tree, the aged man was soon fast asleep. Live Through This is an album about girlhood and motherhood; desire and disgust; self-destruction and survival. There have been few rock albums before or since so intimately concerned with female experience. It is an album that changed lives – so why is Courtney Love's achievement as a songwriter and musician still not taken seriously, two decades on? In part two of this episode, we continue our discussion of how Courtney Love both challenged and parodied ideals of womanhood, the gendered connotations of fandom, Hole's influence on the music of today, and more.

Liv is back speaking with author of the Medusa novella, Here, the World Entire, Anwen Kya Hayward all about the intricacies and nuances of Medea (Jason and Theseus are dragged, of course).CW/TW: far too many Greek myths involve assault. Given it's fiction, and typically involves gods and/or monsters, I'm not as deferential as I would be were I referencing the real thing.Works Referred: Euripides' Medea, Ovid's Heroides (quotes from Harold Isbell translation), Seneca's Medea, and peripherally Apollonios' Argonautika.Attributions and licensing information for music used in the podcast can be found here: mythsbaby.com/sources-attributions. ⭐⭐⭐

Nathan: Lacy. I've been noticing lately that a lot of folks are struggling and I had this sneaking suspicion that you might have something helpful to say to folks.Lacy: Hmm,Nathan: So do you.Lacy: do I have something helpful? Say folks who are struggling? Um, me too. Amy can say that you're not alone. there's a wonderful Quaker phrase called you know, this holding center. meaning that we're, you know, we're noticing that we are deepening in Christ and that we are, stable, but the storm is raging around us.Nathan: It's a unique storm and has been for you guys. Can, can you share a little about that with Doug and son?Lacy: Yeah. I'm, I'm married to an emergency room physician. he, serves our community and our local hospital. so that's meant that since March. We've had, a unique experience. Well, actually not unique, you know, worldwide, there's lots of healthcare workers. We've had this experience, of what it looks like to weather this storm.with this second, third, I don't know what they're calling this new, increase in COVID cases. we've had to really reconsider what our faithfulness looks like in this season. So we, Doug and I were not sleeping in the same bed. We're all living in the same house. He has so far declined to sleep in the greenhouse. And I'm sleeping on a blow up mattress in the living room.Nathan: Yeah. Yeah.Lacy: yeah. And it's been, it's been hard for our kids. For our, our youngest daughter is still at home with us. It's been very difficult for her.Nathan: What's her struggle been?Lacy: You know, and I, I just want to say, I did ask her permission to make sure it was okay. That I, I talked a little bit about it, but, we're a bit of an anomaly in our community. We've been super careful. We live next door to my parents. And we just want to be super careful. So lots of the adults we've always had this belief, that it takes a whole lot of people to raise children. Don't have it all.Nathan: Wait a minute. You, you wrote a book about children. You're you're not the expert. You're not, you're not the mom of the year.Lacy: Good gracious. Absolutely not. Um, so yeah, we've sort of, had community around us and some of our community their faithfulness has looked like different, different levels of restrictions than ours. And so that's brought up big conversations in our house. In a really vulnerable act -- again I have asked her permission -- she said, you know, mom, all of these adults that have had spoken into my life all of these years, some of them, many of them, don't have the same level of attention to this as you and dad do. She said, I'm wondering if, if you and dad are crazy. And I was really grateful that she could give me her really true feelings, how she feels about this. And I felt really isolated and alone.Nathan: What'd you say?Lacy: I think one, lots of people are feeling this and lots of teenagers are feeling this. If we think of Dallas, Willard's different dimensions of the person and he talks about, and one is social context. Well, the main way that adolescents, one of the main dimensions of the self that they're engaging is their social context. And so they in this season have not had that, or they've had it in different ways and, and that's created a loss within them. And for sure they are feeling that. So I could hear that in her conversation with me. And I needed to be able to, in that moment -- we were driving, which is a great place, can I say to talk, is to give them some space and, you know, as long as you can keep it on the road, it's a good place that they feel free to talk. And I was, I felt really grateful that she could talk to us about it. I felt like it was our faithfulness to continue in the path what looks like for us to love our neighbor well, which means that she, she couldn't do, she can't do all the social things that she's wanted to do and is so conditioned to doing. And I had to make space for her to be angry about it,that anger in this season lands with me.Nathan: yeah. Holding center. What does that mean?Lacy: well, practically for me, what does it look like right now? That's praying the Psalms. there's a little Salter that comes from Paraclete Press, it's called, a book of daily prayer. The Paraclete Psalter. And, and thenNathan: Better than mine?Lacy: Well, it, what it does is it, has you read that throughout the different times of the day, so you have morning, afternoon, evening all of the daily office and you read through the whole Psalter in a month. Which, you know, we're at what, nine months in here. and what I really like about it is that it includes the lamenting Psalms. And so, part of the way that I've been able to hold center is by praying those lamenting Psalms. So that anger that gets pushed on me as a parent, which it happens. Is, I can funnel that into the lamenting Psalms and to God who can handle that. The weight of teenage, frustration and anger, honestly, I'm certainly no mother of the year, it's too much for me to bear. I can funnel it through these lamenting Psalms, and into God and God can handle it.Nathan: That's right. It's worth noting that God allowed certain Psalms in there.Lacy: Oh, yeah. And they're Oh, can I just tell you they're not pretty? One of the other pieces that, where we're having these conversations of consequence in our home too, is that, healthcare workers are exhausted. When their colleagues get sick, you know, they're taking on extra shifts, their shifts are longer in order to take care of patients. At our tiny hospital, the second COVID wing has opened up, the ICU is filling. So healthcare workers are dealing with their own anxiety. And their own faithfulness, you know, they came into this profession wanting to help people. And often our communities, different levels of people's discernment around this can really tick away at their sense of feeling United. So you know that they are all in this together. They can feel like that, that they're fractured from their community and that can weigh heavy on them.Nathan: I remember sitting in a faculty meeting once and they were talking about bringing the faculty and staff together and kind of building, you know, some sort of community. And my friend was a history professor and his, his specialty was in world war II. He just kind of leans over and he says, well, we need an enemy. That's how you bring people together. There's a common enemy. You know, he was, he was big, somewhat, you know, serious. So what's confused me as I thought at the beginning of a pandemic. And some of these things that, that what we would see is a little of what it seemed like happened during world war II, we're in this together and buying bonds and let's, you know, save flour or whatever to kind of help the cause. And it's really confused me in a sense how that's not happened. And it does seem that some of the greatest divisions are among Christian folks. And, you know, what does church look like and how do we, and then the interactions with each other have not been good and been really, really destructive. So I'm wondering if you had any, any thoughts about that or any potential ways to move forward or we can move forward.Lacy: I think that our experience as a family that has a healthcare worker as a main member of our family has implications for the division that maybe we feel as a nation. I wonder if Christians could see healthcare workers as fellow human beings. Who longed to have encounters with Christ, even if they can't really verbally articulate that. And the quote keeps coming to mind that we cannot proclaim the good news and be the bad news. So what would it look like, Church, to be the good news? To healthcare workers. And I think that's a, fateful question maybe that we could all live with. What would it look like? Because nurses and techs and doctors and all the folks who, are protecting us. Who are working long hours they're watching. And we can say lots of things. In fact, we write them on posters and we walk them in the streets, but who we are -- that speaks louder than anything else. And I think the next sort of group of people that I have the honor of listening to. And I mean, it, honor, incredible honor, our pastors and educators, and I, get to accompany them in spiritual direction and they're also experiencing incredible divisiveness. Depending on what, the decisions that are being made. they're meeting resistance on all sides. What would it look like to be the good news to your child's teacher? To the pastor of your church.Nathan: What does it look like for you in this season to be the good news... to love well?Lacy: For us as a family, it means that I'm sleeping on a blowup mattress in the living room. Because my parents live next door. Because of, if Doug gets sick, I don't want to, you know, pass it off somewhere else. To be the good news looks like being vulnerable with people who find theirselves in a different place than I am, in terms of what their level of faithfulness is. And, having conversations over zoom, having masked conversations, it means to, for me to actually show up. I've noticed in myself what happens, when I sort of move into that judgmental space. And I mean, it's so easy right now to move there -- it's just so easy. In fact, I feel quite sure that I will, if I listened to this podcast, I'm going to be like, Oh, Lacy.So I almost want to beg forgiveness on the front end. But when I notice I'm moving into that judgmental space, I know that I have moved away from the person in front of me. it's very difficult to judge up close. and it's easier to judge from a distance. So, you know, I'm, saying if we disagree, can we have a conversation? Can I hear what your point of view, which would you like to hear mine and my experience. I mean, in many ways, this is why I agreed to have the podcast to talk about this a little bit publicly. I want to move in, move closer. So that's vulnerability, moving closer, praying the Psalms. Oh, please definitely pray the Psalms. I thought about taking an Exacto knife and just cutting all the lamenting Psalms up like a little book, just read those, but cutting and pasting is really not my forte. but the other thing that has been a gift, and maybe I can , you know, turn it towards a gift. One of the gifts has been play. We have played more. I have personally played more in this season than I have played in my entire life. I think. Yeah. You know, I was born into a family who knows how to work.I mean, we are workers. I started waiting tables, I bet I was seven when I was, when I could hold plates, hot plates. I learned how to combine work in play, but just flat out play. It is my youngest daughter who has taught me how to play. And it was out of necessity. It was, we were going to turn on each other and there, and then we were going to have like a homicide of some kind and we didn't do something if we didn't get out of our little house. And so it, it started in the spring and we were outside playing. I have learned, right now we're out. So we've got a lot of snow this winter and we're out in the snow. We have a dog who had to have her front leg removed last Christmas. Her name is Maggie and she's a border Collie. So she, you know, she moves a lot. She runs the five acres all the time, and it was so difficult for her to learn to walk again without, I mean the back leg, they, they recover quite quickly, but that front leg is such a powerhouse. And she's done a great job moving without it, but I haven't seen her face light up until we got that first snow. And I mean, even as we're talking, I'm watching her outside, running through the snow with those three legs. And I mean, you know, she's hopping with that front leg and that there is just something about snow. That is inviting us to play. And something about Maggie only three legs. She had cancer. We don't know how much longer we're going to have her with us, but just seeing that playfulness, she puts her nose underneath the snow and throws it up over her back. She kind of burrows down underneath it. She kicks it with her back legs. And it's just really inviting me to play.Nathan: Hmm, that's good.Lacy: And there's, there's something about those two P's right now -- praying the Psalms and Play. And it's again, it's I think it's that intersection of the deep, the deep sorrow of suffering. My grandparents, got COVID and, they got it at church. And my grandfather has a CT scan today. There is the very real named losses that are happening right now. And there is an invitation that seems to becoming from God through nature, inviting, inviting me to play.Nathan: Can I tell you about my cat?Lacy: I love cats.Nathan: So I needed a mouse cat. I have this, this barn that I'm working in and it had some mice, so I just need a mouse cat. So, so we, we got this cat that lived on the streets, you know, it was a stray and I didn't think I'd really see him around. You know, skiddish, whatnot. This cat. Oh my goodness. Well, first off it's like a dog.He follows me, like when I take walks, he walks with me and his little tail drags in the snow and he's just the most loving cat and. It has felt like play me and this cat, like we walk around together and I'm doing things around the yard and it, it just has felt like this little companion that God has given me the midst of this.So many adults struggle with play, self included. It's is there any word that you might give to people who hear you say play and they kind of, yes, but I don't know how to do that.Lacy: Yeah. First of all, think back to when you were a child, what did you do in your, in your, when you were very young? That you really enjoyed? Play can involve like a glorious loss of time. So when did you lose track of time and what did you do?Did it have something to do with being outside? Did it have something to do with creating something? Did you lose track of time as you were creating something? Did it have to do with telling jokes? You know, as my grandparents have suffered from COVID the last couple of weeks, this is my grandparents that are the funniest. I learned to tell my first jokes from this grandmother and, in her deli on 42nd street in Odessa, Texas. I learned to laugh with her she's hysterical. So we've been talking about all the different jokes that we used to tell and the funny things that happened as we worked in restaurants together over the years. So are there some things that you used to do with people that you love, that, you lost track of time that gave you that sense of being connected with someone bigger than yourself?Nathan: I love this phrase, glorious loss of time.Lacy: And it's not the kind of glorious loss of time that's happening right now in a pandemic. One more like we're on, you know, somebody says what's today's date and it's like, it's March three, four, or whatever.Nathan: That's where you forget, you forget that you're bound to a clock, right. And just, just, Oh my goodness. It's two in the morning. Wow.Lacy: Yeah, exactly. Exactly. So I am very uncoordinated. I have like low level coordination. But long ago, um, when I was at, I was a teacher at new covenant Christian school in Penfield, New York. And at this charismatic Christian school, in chapel, Wednesday chapels, the kids danced. And I come from a Baptist tradition and no adults don't even dance. Nobody danced. That's Southern Baptist. There are other Baptist traditions that are, are wonderful dancers. This was new to me and the children taught me to praise God and dance at the same time, but the kiddos taught me. So I would say to someone who's like, I'm not sure I know how to play.If there's a child around, ask them to teach you. So this is their mother tongue, and so they can teach you to speak it. So that would be the other. how about trying out dancing? There is a song that's come out of South Africa called the... I think it's called the Jerusalem dance and we found a couple of YouTube videos on it and we're practicing. This is kind of a lot throwback to 1980s line dancing and we're practicing it in our house. It's really kind of a lot of fun. I'm terrible...Nathan: Right. I believe you on both ends. How is play a spiritual act or can it be a spiritual act?Lacy: Oh, absolutely. Play as a spiritual act in many ways. One is that it helps us forget ourselves, but not in the sense of self rejection, but because there, there are, there's sort of two ways to go in forgetting ourself. Forgetting ourselves in freedom, means that we still have a sense of self forgetting ourselves in rejection is separation. So, so play invites us to, forget ourself through self acception. And that means that we're being accept. We receive ourselves as being accepted by God, and we show up with all, all of who we are. So play very much invites us into that. We can set ourself aside because we're fully there. play also helps us to experience unity. One of the ways that my youngest daughter explained unity to me once was, you know, mom, when I'm on the back of, Pepper, that's one of our horses and she's trotting, I know the difference between me and her, and when she moves into a gallop, I know the difference between me and her, but when she breaks into or run, I don't know the difference. And play helps us experience that unity with , often, with God.And with another, that, that we feel that deep sense of being connected. I mean, when we're dancing this Jerusalem dance and we actually nail off, well, we, when I actually nail all the moves Anwen nails and every time there's a sense of glorious unity between us and the Melody and beat of the music, it's it brings incredible amount of joy to us.Nathan: Sometimes when I'm looking at nature and I'll, I'll see a bug or a bird or something, and I'll, I'll just kind of go, you're just playing around. Aren't you like? Like there just feels to be this playfulness in the w there is no reason to make that flower so intricately beautiful. So I think God plays.Lacy: One way, way that we have played is by watching movies together lately. That's, that is a way play. And we have watched a movie called my octopus friend.Nathan: Oh, I saw thatLacy: Oh, you know, he talks about octopus and how this particular octopus plays. So animals do play. And one of the things that I think play does for us as a spiritual practice as well is it opens us to be learners.I mean, when we have a sense of play, we are not trying to get things perfectly spot on. I mean, our inner compulsion for failure takes a break. And we can learn more. So if we have this sense of play in our lives, then our inner compulsion around getting things exactly right. And I mean, that's true right now in the pandemic.Right. For, for us as a family with a healthcare worker, we can have an inner compulsion, like, you know, where's our mask. you know how much hand sanitizer can one person schlep around town picking up groceries? I mean, we, when we, anyway, we got a bottle of some that smelled terrible. In fact, we all agreed that it smelled like horse manure or so we're walking around feeling like we smell so bad. With this hand sanitizer anyway. So what play can do is to help us lower that compulsion that we're all having right now, wherever your faithfulness lies.Nathan: Lacey, thank you for your vulnerability, sharing your story.Lacy: You asked me in the beginning, what did I want people to know? I think I want people to know the thing that I have wanted to know, which is that you're not alone. We're not alone.Nathan: I'll take it. Thank you friend.Lacy: Thanks.

Special Guest: Anwen Bottois, Associate Director - People Strategy, University of Salford Anwen is currently the Associate Director, People Strategy leading the teams that are shaping the employee experience at the University of Salford. This covers leadership, management and colleague development, organisational development, strategic projects, reward, recognition, performance, data analysis that enables them to make informed decisions, all underpinned by creating an inclusive and diverse environment for all. A key project that her team has been leading is development of greater flexibility in the workplace. They’ve been piloting this approach within the HR Team. Anwen joins us to share how they have been developing greater flexibility and principles to consider in making decisions on flexibility to enable colleagues to really make their best contributions to the organisation. We also discuss how this has been working for them including the wider benefits this has had for the team and the organisation, beyond just creating more flexibility. Greater flexibility at the heart of how they operate as a team has created greater trust, autonomy and a more supportive and creative environment. There are challenges that exist but these challenges are a great opportunity to understand their organisation better. Anwen's been an HR generalist for most of her career but over time she has loved getting involved in more complex projects and change activities and she's passionate about HR and the role we play in change, transformation and delivering a successful business every day. Two college freshman spend a night together. There’s inexperience, miscommunication and things go wrong -- really wrong. One of them calls what happened sexual assault, the other calls it rape. But together, they’ve found a remarkable way to recover, heal and learn. For this episode, Trey speaks with Stephanie Lepp, the producer of the podcast “Reckonings” about the story of Anwen and Sameer and one night that has changed their lives.
In which we meet our PCs: Colwyn, the Fox, an often-shirtless gadabout who serves as the town's midwife and is sleeping with a witch Winnie, the young Judge of Aratis, wielder of the hammer, who's family came to Stonetop a few generations ago and deposed Sianna the witch Torwen, the Heavy. Found as an infant at the Ruined Tower, covered in storm-markings, and raised as Colwyn's foster-brother. Destined for greatness, it seems, but so far he's mostly a drunken lout. Anwen, the Would-be Hero, driven by his father's sacrifice. Afraid that he's not cut out for this, but also afraid of what he's capable of.
Colwyn has rushed off on his own to the Ruined Tower, leaving Winnie to try and rescue Torwen... but she needs rescuing herself! Anwen shows up to help. Torwen, meanwhile, goes for Round 2 against the monster (with hands! and feet!). It flees! The three PCs regroup. Tensions flare! They decide to pursue the monster back to the Ruined Tower as a storm rolls in from the south!

Sameer met Anwen freshman year. He was into her, and they started seeing each other. Then one night, after a fraternity party, Sameer convinced Anwen to come home with him — which is when he coerced her into sexual activity. Their senior year, Anwen invited Sameer into a process of restorative justice. This story features *both* Anwen and Sameer, talking about how they worked through sexual assault using restorative justice. What does it sound like for a survivor to get her needs met? What does it sound like for a perpetrator to take responsibility for his sexual abuse of power? Heartfelt thanks to the Friend Foundation, Varda Rabin, and David Karp at the Campus PRISM Project, which helps universities explore the possibility of applying restorative justice to sexual assault: www.skidmore.edu/campusrj/prism.php

This week on our Game of Microphones Series Rewatch, join Lord Stirling, Lady Kristin, and special guest Lady Anwen, First of Her Name, to dissect Game of Thrones Season 2 Episode 8, "The Prince of Winterfell". So much good stuff to talk about this week as we explore the themes of fear, honor, sacrifice, observe and quantify how our favorite characters paths are molded by those around them, question if Shae was a faceless man, witness Arya hoodwink the God of Death yet again, as just one instance of a larger trend, look on in terror and shame as Theon dooms himself to Reekdom and decides not to "abandon ship" (Iron-born pun!), staying at Winterfell after Yara attempts to set his course straight (Sorry, I can't help myself with these Iron-born puns, apparently). The morning sky is red, Theon. Take warning. 'The old pagan gods, when ousted by Christianity, took refuge in the rivers, where they still dwell' - Old English saying David Bramwell has a fascination and fear of water. He grew up by a water tower, close to the heart of Doncaster: a place of mystery and wonder to him, the highest building in the area, almost a kind of temple. 'We have wandered too far from some vital totem, something central to us that we must find our way back to, following a hair of meaning' - Alan Moore With deep thought from cult author Alan Moore, the witches of Sheffield, ex-steel workers and the conservationists of Yorkshire, musician David Bramwell plunges into the river Don to celebrate its return to health and the revival of the worship of its goddess, Danu - the river's original name from pre-Roman times. It's also an underwater musical experience for the listener... blending the sounds of the rivers, canals and streams of the Don, recorded with hydrophones, into new music, new sounds, with Bramwell's compositions. Bramwell travels up the Don to its source, backwards in time, uncovering the history of its days as an industrial heartland, now a regenerated river - banked by forests of figs and swum through by deer. He meets John Heaps who, as a teenager in the 1970s at the steel works, was instructed to throw cyanide in the river by the bucket-load; takes a boat with Professor Ian Rotherham, of Sheffield Hallam University, who guides him through the decaying, yet reviving industrial landscape of the city; hunts fresh fish with river expert Chris Firth of the Don Catchment River Trust; stares up at Vulcan on the Town Hall roof, the harsh overlord of industry, with folklorist and lecturer David Clarke; and hears from witches Anwen and Lynne Harling (also an archaeologist, handily), trying to bring back recognition for the goddess of the river. But this is also a mystical journey - searching out the 'spirit of this dark and lonely water', in an attempt to come to peace with Bramwell's own fear, perhaps to atone for the wrongs committed to Danu by Vulcan, in the name of progress and industrialisation. Going under, with Between the Ears. Producer: Sara Jane Hall Music and words performed, written and presented by David Bramwell.
RE PRINTED HERE FROM WIKIPEDIA Synopsis As Rex brings the Torchwood team to America, problems arise on the plane. CIA operatives are plotting to remove them, and poison the only mortal man; Captain Jack Harkness. Gwen, Rex along with the help of a Doctor create an antidote using only items found on a plane. Meanwhile, Oswald Danes is appearing on News Talk Shows and is becoming a trend on many online social networks after breaking down on national television. Plot Rex has Jack and Gwen boarded on a plane headed to Washington, D.C. with fellow CIA agent Lyn Peterfield escorting them. However Gwen's husband Rhys and their daughter Anwen are forced to stay in the UK. Back in Washington, D.C., because no one can die due to the Miracle, Dr. Vera Juarez has her hospital staff focus on treating the least wounded first so they can get them out quickly and have enough beds to treat newer patients. After his release, Oswald is being interviewed on a local talk show but doesn't say much since there is a campaign to have him returned to prison and anything he might say might be used against him. But when the reporter shows him a picture of the girl he murdered, Oswald starts to break down and cries, apologizing to the girl and revealing he was too scared to apologize to the victim's mother, which earns him sympathy from some viewers. As he's about to leave the TV station, PR agent Jilly Kitzinger congratulates him on his interview and offers him to be his agent but he declines, after which a TV staff tells Oswald that wants to do an interview with him. Meanwhile, Vera attends a medical conference where doctors are trying to figure out the Miracle but when a Doctor that his hospital needs more antibiotics, Vera realizes because nobody is dying, people who were suppose to died have become living incubators for bacteria which allows it to grow and become resistant to antibiotics. What's worse, the Miracle is not true immortality as people still aged and grow old. With fears that supplies will dwindle as the undying grows, Vera suggest hospitals needs more painkillers to handle this situation. Later, Vera meets Jilly who actually works for a pharmaceutical company called PhiCorp and convinces Vera they can work together as she can help her. When Director Brian Friedkin suspects Esther and Rex may know too much about Torchwood, he has their security clearances deleted, frames them as spies working for China and orders Lyn to kill Jack with an arsenic pill. However, Esther manages to escape before the CIA catches her and tries to warn Rex. Back on the plane, Jack realizes that he's being poisoned which both Gwen and Rex apprehend Lyn. As Jack is slowly being killed by the arsenic, Rex calls Vera for help. With the help of her fellow doctors at the medical conference and the air stewards on their plane, Rex and Gwen successfully creates an antidote and administers it to Jack. When Jack, Gwen, Rex and Lyn arrive at the airport, they are accompanied by a group of CIA agents, unaware that they are under orders by Friedkin to arrests the three and free Lyn. However, Esther manages to warn Rex which him, Jack and Gwen subdues the agents including Rex twisting Lyn's neck and escape. By the time they come out of the airport, they are greeted by Vera with Rex's painkillers and Esther who is their getaway driver. After Rex gets his painkillers, he, Jack, Gwen and Esther are about to go until Lyn, still with a twisted neck, tries to stop them but because of her condition, they leave her alone and drive off. Broadcast This episode was broadcast on Starz in the US on Friday 15th July. It is due to air on BBC 1 on Thursday 21st of July. International broadcasters in Canada and Australia received the show on Saturday 16th July, where it was broadcast on Australia's UKTV network. reported that this episode on Starz was watched by "1.4 million this weekend, down about 30 percent from last week's debut." Reception Chris Swanson from WhatCulture gave the episode 4 stars and said "I liked this episode. It wasn't exactly action-packed or anything like that, but it did feature some nice moments, like a conversation between Gwen and Jack about how dangerous being around him is (shades of similar conversations on Doctor Who)." "I also very much liked that they are continuing to examine the logistics of exactly what would happen in a situation like this. Interestingly, no one has yet suggested mandatory birth control, but we do see discussions about the fact that the entire medical industry would have to change from a life-saving position to one that's more about pain management."
