Marvin Cash is joined by Brendan Ruch to discuss the current smallmouth fishing conditions in Pennsylvania as the season transitions into fall. As the weather cools and water clarity increases, Brendan emphasizes the importance of adjusting tackle setups, including using longer leaders and smaller flies to adapt to the clearer water. He also discusses the significance of fly material selection for minimizing noise upon landing, which can be crucial for enticing fish in clear conditions. The Humble Sea (https://humblesea.com) origin story told by cofounder and brewmaster Nick Pavlina is a common one: Avid homebrewer turns pro at the urging of family and friends. Yet that early experience with brewing, brewing, and brewing some more—on a one-barrel system—instilled a discipline for testing, evaluating, and adapting that stays with Humble Sea to this day. A 2022 World Beer Cup silver medal for Munich-style helles gave them the validation they sought for the nascent lager program—but rather than anchor them in place, that success put more wind in their experimental sails. They continue to tinker with that beer, testing mash-step times and temperatures as well as fermentation parameters, in an ongoing quest to make it as perfect as possible. Meanwhile, they've hitched a ride on the swift current of hazy IPA—or, in their lingo, “foggy IPA”—but they've done so in ways inspired by their West Coast locale. The result has been significant growth, and the brewery now has five different ports they call home. In this episode, Pavlina and brewing operations director Nate Chesser discuss: developing a house lager style by assembling pieces of various traditions and the practices of brewer peers changing and adjusting their medal-winning helles despite its success embracing decoction for both its tangible and intangible benefits choosing and sourcing Noble hops for helles and pilsner fermenting lagers with a less common yeast strain building their initial “foggy” IPA out of a Pliny the Elder–inspired recipe leaning into their unique water profile spunding IPA for natural carbonation And more. The "Golden Age of Auto Racing" began after World War II and lasted until the early Seventies. It's a period that is frequently romanticized. http://catiewaters.com Have you ever felt out of place? Ever been made to feel like an outcast? Catie Waters experienced that while growing up in a mostly European- American environment in school and otherwise. Catie Waters is an American singer and songwriter. She continues to impress the music industry with her organic sound and deep lyrics that inspire and motivate change. Her expressive contralto vocals are combined with an eclectic mix of jazz, soul, rhythm and blues. Catie was born in Arkansas and later raised in Dallas. Her heritage is Irish and Native American (on her father's side) and Mexican (on her mother's side). Coming from a multi-cultural family, gave her an openness to diversity, beliefs and values. She spent the majority of her childhood immersed in books and music. In addition to being a classically trained singer, Waters also plays guitar. Before moving to Los Angeles, California, Catie lived in Dallas. There she immersed herself in Jazz, Blues, Soul, and R&B music. Prior to that, she was mostly exposed to gospel music. All those sounds shaped her unique style of writing, singing, and performing. She's been performing since she was seven years old. She released her debut album—the critically acclaimed, hip-hop/jazz inflected, Stone Child—when she was just 16. Catie's sophomore album, Colors—was released in May, 2020. The key producers helping bring Catie's musical vision for Colors to life is Michael Broening, a Grammy winner renowned for his work with top urban jazz artists Al Jarreau and George Benson. In addition to the Broening-helmed tracks, Catie also works with Ben Bohorquez and three-time Grammy winner Caleb McCampbell (on “Feelin' Alright,” “Sanctuary” and “Wicked”) and eleven-time Grammy winner Philip Lassiter, Prince's former trumpet player, on “Get Me Golden.” She was nominated for breakout artist of the year in 2020 and was included in Pop Magazine's best albums of 2020. Music has given her a platform for activism and a wide range of philanthropic activities. In addition to mentoring young girls and advocating for animal adoptions, she would like to develop a music program specifically designed for inner city youth and a sanctuary for mistreated and abandoned animals. #CatieWaters #Singer #ClearWaters Subscribe to the channel: https://youtube.com/channel/UCMyW-pOoocsvMVjHDSWNeeg Support the channel here: * Donate: * *CashApp: https://cash.me/$PneuPneuma Follow me on social media Facebook: https://facebook.com/pneupneuma Instagram: https://instagram.com/pneupneuma Twitter: https://twitter.com/pneupneuma --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/pneu-pneuma/support
Hello, and welcome to Wild Wimmin the Wild Swimming Podcast, I'm Laura Macdonald. Today I am chatting about access rights to waterways in England with the utterly lovely Chantelle Grundy. She's an Access & Environment Officer with British Canoeing and very generously agreed to talk Wild Wimmin about the work that she does to bring clarity to the laws on our rights to access the waterways in England through the Clear Access Clear waters campaign. We chatted about how she got started in the water, the vagaries of the law, and why it's so important to put your swim stories and good works on social media. You can support the podcast via Patreon for as little as £3 a month. Patrons will get access to exclusive Wild Wimmin content and (eventually…) merch! You will be helping to shape the future of the podcast. Please take a minute to like, subscribe and review. It helps other swimmers to find the podcast. Massive thanks to The Housecoat Project for allowing me to use their song Wild Wimmin as the theme music. "Wild Wimmin" : words + music by Meri St. Mary (Instagram). In this episode, I connect with a very dear soul sister and friend, Farrah Theresa. Farrah is a nature connection guide, permaculturalist, and musician. Her and I speak about 'ecological identity' and the various threads that lead into and out of this concept. We gently dig into rich soil together, co-locating ourselves in the sacred realms of being human, being here on earth, being of earth, and being for earth. Farrah also shares a powerful guided meditation as well as a gorgeous and haunting song weaving that she channels on the piano in the moment. Farrah's BioMy name is Farrah, South African born and bred on the land of the Sesotho , isiZulu, IsiXhosa & Setswana, currently living on Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Nation (Squamish) land in British Columbia, Canada. With my foremost training Social Anthropology & Psychology I first channeled my love for the service of humanity from a social perspective and later into eco-social endeavors as an Environmental Educator, Permaculturalist and general plant-enthusiast in Thailand, Malaysia, South Africa and most recently, the West Coast of Canada. Something kept tugging at me soul to go deeper, to connect with the roots of my childhood in wild places where the dangers of baboons, green mambas and wild bush-pigs kept us ever witness to our place in the world. Thus began my journey 'back to my wildish-nature' through the guidance of the Work That Reconnects, Forest Bathing, Coyote's Guide and Braiding Sweetgrass. And so I offer you this co-exploration of deepening & expanding our true relationship with the natural world through intentional earth-based practices. My deepest hope in these offerings is that we may learn to live our lives in authentic gratitude for all that we are gifted in this life, and in so doing co-create a more harmonious world. ______________________________________________________________________To learn more about Farrah and her beautiful offerings you can find her online at...Website: https://www.farrahtheresa.com/Current Offering: Self-Guided Forest BathingInstagram: @farrah_theresaSoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/farrahtheresaPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/FarrahTheresaShow Notes:Music "Running Water" by Jason Shaw from the Free Music Archivehttps://freemusicarchive.org/music/Jason_Shaw/Audionautix_Acoustic/RUNNING_WATERS______________2-46"Clear Waters" by Kevin MacLeod from Incomtech https://incompetech.filmmusic.io/song/3516-clear-watersPodcast theme music is "Karma Cat" by Dyalla (Creative Commons License)Books MentionedComing Back to Life ~ by Joanna Macy and Molly Young Brown Thinking Like a Mountain ~ Multiple AuthorsMagdalene Manuscript ~ Tom KenyonEcological Intelligence ~ Ian McCallum Ecotherapy: Healing with Nature in Mind ~ Linda Buzzell and Craig ChalquistAnansi Boys ~ Neil GaimonWomen Who Run With the Wolves ~ Dr. Clarissa Pinkola-EstesSupport the show (https://www.patreon.com/ambersamaya)Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/ambersamaya)
“Remember: the time you feel lonely is the time you most need to be by yourself. Life's cruelest irony.” ― Douglas Coupland, In this episode i'am sharing my deep thoughts with you in poetry form. “You Learn More From Failure Than From Success. Don't Let It Stop You. Failure Builds Character.” You see, the way you think and feel about yourself, including your beliefs and expectations about what is possible for you, determines everything that happens to you. When you change the quality of your thinking, you change the quality of your life, sometimes instantly. Just as positive words can make someone smile or a well-timed humorous quote can make someone laugh, our thoughts react to the world in real-time. You have complete control over only one thing in the universe — your thinking – and that's where motivational quotes come in! ....................... For those who enjoy the freedom and rights to walk in or on our National Parks, Footpaths and rural byways in fact anywhere which is recognised as a national Right Of Way you are probably unaware of the historic nature of how this came into being following the Kinder Scout Trespass of 1932.Kinder Scout was a turning point in outdoor history. Without it we would be excluded from all wild places which would be fenced off and under strict private control of landowners through the UK.Currently access to the inland waterways in the UK is restricted to 4%. Imagine if we only had access to 4% of the the land and parks and open places we take for granted. We would be outraged and yet the water based enthusiasts have to accept this, or do they? There is currently a campaign gaining momentum for all water based enthusiasts, paddlers, wild swimmers, SUP users to gain Clear Access Clear Waters and work in harmony with other respective organisations to find a path through this confusing legislation. The waterways are no different to our other land based highways. Everyone from walkers to lorry drivers have to work with all the other users to maximise use and pleasure and functionality from the highways. Be it walkers, cyclists, equestrian, motorbikes, cars through to heavy good vehicles. This interview is with Ben Seal, Places To Paddle Manager at British Canoeing who are a main instigator in this campaign for all water enthusiasts. if you feel strongly about what you hear place sign the petition and support their efforts.
Angels Beyond Walls - (Ep - 1707) The Crystal Clear Waters Of Life
When is a light not just a light? The Good People are masters at evading us. When it suits them, they can be impossibly elusive: appearing as nothing more than a shadow in the corner of our eye, or a feeling, a sense, within us that they are nearby. But what happens when they are so caught up in some activity, that they forget to shield themselves from Human eyes? On this week’s Podcast, we look at 3 true accounts of Faerie using extraordinary forms of light, crafted into spectacular presentations, and guaranteed to capture and hold the attention of passing Humans. Did the Faerie intend to ‘show off’ their mad-skills to these Humans, or was it just a lapse in their concentration? We ponder the source of these peculiar lights. Are they proof of the Faerie being ‘Nature Spirits’? Are these lights born of energy drawn from surrounding hills, trees and rivers? *Hi everyone, I have a mild cold and I’m a wee bit husky. In our second episode, we focus on an ever present problem for teachers – quieting down a class. How can we, as educators, better help our students to ‘settle in' for the day or for a particular lesson without being reactive or encouraging our students to be reactive? Psychology Today tells us that all individuals respond to respect. Additionally, students follow our lead and we need to model non-reactive behavior, compassion and calm if we expect them to. Today's episode offers practical, doable tips on how to calmly, mindfully and creatively quiet down students so that classes start on time, are productive and engaging. In 2019, The Pacer Center, an organization dedicated to helping schools and families attend to the needs of students with disabilities, revealed that approximately 20% of students in our nation's schools were bullied. That's one out of five students. Psychologists tell us that when students do not feel safe in their classrooms and schools at large, genuine learning cannot take place. The brain is not hardwired to process information under that kind of physical and emotional stress. In today's episode we recognize the importance of October as National Bullying Prevention Month by offering strategies that help educators identify bullying behavior, address it and provide calmer and more peaceful classrooms where students can better control their behavior through self-regulating activities. Here’s an episode for all of you blessed with a curious mind, but… fair warning, this topic may offer up more questions than answers. Did you know there are occasions where the Good People and Humans enter into a physical conflict? Our Ancestors have reported many instances of battles between the two, usually occurring under the darkness of night. They are heard, not seen, but.. come dawn, physical evidence of the fighting is often found. What on our good Earth could incite one of us to engage with one of Themselves? It’s perfectly complicated. On occasion, the Good People attend a Human on their death bed, intent on receiving their spirit on death. Humans who dwell among the Good People will do all they can to keep the Faerie from taking the spirit of their loved one. From placing obstacles in their way, to physical altercation: this is a serious business. * Fancy buying me a coffee? Uncanny Japan - Exploring Japanese Myths, Folktales, Superstitions, History and Language
I want to celebrate my fiftieth episode by reading my yokai story, "Sand Walls, Paper Doors" from my book A Robe of Feathers and Other Stories. This is the one that got me my book deal, my agent, and my best friend. Also, yokai, lots of yokai. I'm also going to announce a super-sekrit project Rich Pav and I have just embarked on. Hint: Horror Audio Drama. Thank you for listening, sharing, and reaching out these past three and a half years. I'm looking forward to the next fifty episodes! terrie You can also find me on: Twitter: https://twitter.com/UncannyJapan Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/uncannyjapan/ Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/thersamatsuura Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/uncannyjapan/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqAtoUS51HDi2d96_aLv95w Website: https://www.uncannyjapan.com/ Notes: Intro/Outro by Julyan Ray Matsuura. I’m really happy to say this is my 50th episode of Uncanny Japan. I started the podcast on October 30, 2016. So it’s taken about three and a half years to get here, and I’m really happy I’m here. And I’m happy you’re here, too. One of the reasons I started Uncanny Japan was because given my circumstances I thought I had a bit of a different perspective on Japanese culture and I wanted to share that. But that wasn’t the only reason. Doing this was also a way of getting through a very difficult time in my life. As fate would have it, things got even more difficult before they got better. And they were just starting to get a lot better when boom now, we have this heinous virus that is ravaging the world. The podcast has always been something I look forward to, a means for escape even. And I really hope the shows can also help you put down the outside world for a few minutes as well. Since it’s my 50th episode, I want to give a couple thank yous. First, I want thank the guy who without his help this show never would have been or be. Rich Pav. He’s the one who lent me my first binaural mic and has stood on the sidelines and cheered me on as well as been master of everything sound and tech related. If you don’t believe in miracles, just listen to my first episode that I did all by myself and compare it to now. I also want to thank all my Patrons. They are all so wonderful and they’re the other reason I’m still doing this show. Because without their support I couldn’t afford to do this at all. I care for and appreciate every single one of them. And finally, I want to thank you, dear listeners, your messages, emails, reviews, or just subscribing to the show. If I didn’t think anyone was listening, this really wouldn’t have lasted too long. For my 50th episode I want to announce some fun news I’m very excited about. If you remember the past episode, 49, the cheesy one about finding an amabie, well, that was such a joy to make that I started thinking about doing something different, longer, horror-related, and involving this old house I’m living in. Rich Pav and I have spent entire days brainstorming and outlining and scripting a horror audio drama that we’re going to start recording soon. This is going to be so much fun, I can’t even. It’ll be 11 episodes, with patrons getting early access, bonus content, behind the scenes, bloopers, stuff like that. This is going to be a grab your headphones and turn off the lights kinda show. Of course, Uncanny Japan will come out as usual, twice a month. The audio drama will be and Uncanny Japan presents kinda thing. I’ll let you know here how that’s going and when it’ll be getting it up. Now for today’s episode: I haven’t done a story in awhile and I think I’ve only ever done one of my stories here, way back at the beginning in episode 7, I did a very short piece I wrote about the senninbari, or thousand stitched belt. Today I want to read a short story that is dear to my heart. It’s the first story I wrote after I decided I want to seriously do this writing thing, back in 1993 or 4 or something. Also, it’s quite autobiographical. I’ll go into more details about which parts are really real and which are made up, over on Patreon. Another reason this story means a lot to me is that it’s the reason I got the first book deal. I cold queried a publisher with this story and got my first book deal. It’s also the story that helped woo get my rockin’ agent and it’s the story my sound/tech man, Rich Pav, read when we only knew each other on Twitter and he reached out to message me how much he really loved it. Oh, and yokai. There are quite a few yokai involved in it as well. So anyway, it’s got a lot of good memories attached to it. And in this chaotic time, for my 50th episode, I think I want to share it with you. It’s called Sand Walls, Paper Doors. *story* (Sorry I can't transcribe it. I only have the audio rights.) Thank you all for listening. Stay safe and I’ll talk to you again in two weeks.

It's a fascinating conversation. They start with Steve's recent trip to the Arctic - the wildlife he's encountered, the incredible Northern Lights and his absolute love of the sea kayak. There are some great stories!Steve also talks about his dramatic rescue on a trip to Bhutan when he feared he was drowning.Etienne and Steve discus the climate emergency and their hopes for the future.Steve explains why he supports British Canoeing's Clear Access, Clear Waters campaign and tells us of the problems he and his wife have encountered from the river banks. And Steve and Etienne discover they share two other things - they both started paddling in the Scouts and they've both just taken Open University degrees.Steve Backshall hosts a special event called One Wild Night in aid of the World Land Trust. Look out for details of the 2020 date.Details www.worldlandtrust.orgYou can find Etienne Stott on twitter@etiennestottAnd Steve Backshall@SteveBackshallTo find out more about the Clear Access, Clear Waters campaign please visitwww.britishcanoeing.orgIf you have a moment - we'd love it if you could rate and review our podcast. Olympic gold medal winner Etienne Stott meets three inspiring women and hears about their paddling adventures. Jo Moseley calls herself a joy encourager, a mid-life adventurer and a beach cleaner. In August 2019 at the age of 54 she became the first woman to Stand Up Paddleboard coast to coast from Liverpool to Goole. She called it Paddleboard the North and raised money for two charities and picking up litter along the way.Jo's a single mum, empty-nester and this journey was a voyage of personal discovery. Jo wants women, especially of her age, to feel welcome on the water. She feels women can become disconnected from their bodies but she's proud that she lifted her board in and out of more than 90 locks on the canal to give her a confidence that spreads into everyday life. For 11 days she felt the most 'me' she'd ever been.Emma Kitchen returned to the water after going through a tough few years in her life and is back loving the white water. She really wants more women to get into paddlesport and wants to tell everyone why the water can be great for mental and physical health. She calls it escapism in a busy world. Emma used to go paddling with her dad and joined her local canoe club. But fell out of the sport for 19 years before returning a couple of years ago. She also goes SUP'ing and is setting up a community club in Castleford.Jo and Emma are both proud Women's Paddling Ambassadors for British Canoeing. And they're joined by Cadi Lambert, who leads the #ShePaddles programme for British Canoeing. For Cadi, it's much more than a job. It's a complete passion. She's driven to help other women to return to the water or try it for the first time - whether it's on a board, on a raft or in a canoe. And then helping women to get where they want to be in the sport such as becoming a coach or leader. The guests discus access, the environment and rubbish on the riverbanks. We hope you enjoy it!If you want more details on anything in the podcast or to find out about ShePaddles then here are some contacts:www.britishcanoeing.orgYou can find Jo Moseley on twitter @healthyhappy50@OneHappyRowerand at www.healthhappy50.comCadi can be contacted at cadi.lambert@britishcanoeing.org.uk

There has to be something 'magical' that brings a person back to the same spot over a 40+ year period. But what could it be?....The name of the place, Clear Waters in the Cairns FNQ suburb of Brinsmead, speaks for itself with it's aptly name creek 'Freshwater' surround by palm trees, turtles and fish.During a casual stroll along the creek, Kaye came across this very caring family enjoying the local beauty and asked mum Michelle why the place is so special to them.Oh and no, there are no crocodiles here however Michelle has plenty to say about the number of crocs in and around Cairns and what needs to be done to keep people safe.

American Adventure (Derbyshire, UK) Built on the site of a failed former amusement park that itself was built on a former coal mine with roots as old as the Domesday Book, the American Adventure Theme Park operated in Derbyshire, England. American Adventure Theme Park failed due to a series of poor management choices, and the site sat abandoned for a decade. Today, the site is under construction once again and will eventually become a new urban development. Find complete show notes and references for this episode at https://theabandonedcarousel.com/12. The World Walkers have entered the Sixth Floor of Ozen Tower. Inside, they found three separate portals, and an imposing creature brimming with chaotic energy. Of all the floors, this was the one Tompkins most feared. Because it was built from Brummelstone’s world. The World of Shattered Timelines, Obrimos. What lies within a room inspired by Time itself? While Vassa and Ertlebee scramble through the swamps of the World of Fables, the rest of the World Walkers face the worst of their fears. Brummelstone has been forgotten. Previously, the World Walkers found themselves before the presence of an ancient elemental named Narmul in hopes of saving their guide, Tompkins. However, before it would help, it sought to understand them. It asked a series of questions, but it was Roborto who perhaps received the most difficult question of all. Would he join with Narmul, leave his friends behind and sacrifice himself, in order to help the waking and dreaming worlds in ways he could never imagine while chained to his body. And then… some asshole cut the episode off before anyone could get an answer. Well, don’t worry. Questions will be answered. Even the biggest question of all... With Brummelstone off to find a new source of power, the rest of the group faces the trials of Rhalanas down one member. Now, they journey forth to the Valley of the Stars, but not before Tompkins reveals to them the way things work on The World of Fables... In this episode David is chasing wild brown trout in gin clear water and glaring sun. Stealthy tactics and difficult casts are required on this beautiful tree lined stream. Will the net get wet in these challenging conditions?
With Megan absent this episode, the World Walkers leave The Path and make their way into a seemingly enchanted forest, with only Roborto to lead the way. Will the group find a whimsical woodland full of wonder, or is Vassa right and the forest is full of things far more sinister... Not since Obrimos have the World Walkers seen the Nightmares commit such atrocities. With their futures uncertain, the Gambler barely operating, and the group struggling to deal with what’s happened, it’s going to take a lot more than adventurer’s luck to leave the Steam-Powered World of Cog... PS: During this game, Olivia asked me to provide her with the names of the crew members that were lost on the Gambler. I didn't send them to her right away, but I'm posting them here now. Below are the names of the crew of the Gambler that were lost. May they be remembered the way that all dwarves wished to be: in good spirits, over spirits... This week! An interview with Chip Beauvais of Chroma Cubes fame about his new game, Smoke & Mirrors. Then we give our own review of Smoke & Mirrors and discuss our fear of Kickstarter. Gin is imbibed throughout, and Tom probably swallows loudly into the microphone at least once, because he is a monster. Intro Gag: Comin' to ya' live from the badminton championships, I'm Johannes Stauffer and with my as always are some kinda' feathery balls, and this is the Mildly Alarming Podcast. Episode 111: Disaster Toilet Control Segment 1: Interview with Chip Beauvais Chip can be found on twitter at @the_FlyingSheep and on the web at flyingsheep.com. His Kickstarter for Smoke & Mirrors (combined, as discussed in the episode, with two other games for one big, exciting three-game Kickstarter) can be found here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/239309591/button-shy-wallet-game-series-3-micro-games Episode Sponsor: Uncle Pepperdin's Fleezius Bermjax Segment 2: Smoke & Mirrors Gameplay. Also, Kickstarter Outro Gag: The Mildly Alarming Podcast is made possible by an unlocked door at the recording studio, a series of easily guessed passwords and security questions, and Johannes' ability to subdue a security guard by just flexing until the veins in his neck get all bulgy and gross.
