Making resolutions for the new year is extremely popular but I'm no longer a fan. Why? Because often they have to do with telling yourself that something is wrong with you and you need to change. This can be both intimidating and discouraging. Setting goals, on the other hand, are a different way of framing changes. They have a more attainable and encouraging feel. This is why I prefer goals over resolutions. The other beautiful thing about goals is they don't have to be huge. Resolutions can feel like they need to be bigger, more impactful and weighty in some way. Goals don't have to be. They can be small changes, small adjustments. I like the idea of focusing on the three that are most important while still allowing myself the freedom to add others or subtract one. So let's start this new year talking about your top three goals.“Often when we have too many goals, or too many projects–too many ways that we are splitting our attention–it makes it much harder to actually focus and achieve whatever it is we are wanting to achieve.” – Dr. Sara DillWhat You'll LearnSteps to achieving your top three goalsHow to choose your goalsTangible and Intangible goalsContact Info and Recommended ResourcesPodcast Episodes that pair well with this one:Goal Setting for a More Amazing LifeWhat Conditions Do You Need To Thrive?Decisions ahead of timeConnect with Dr. Sara Dill, MDThe Doctor's CoachThinking about working with me? For many people, getting diagnosed with a degenerative disease is enough to keep them from living their lives. They stop going out, traveling, having fun, and doing the things they love, consumed by the idea that their role now is to wait for the inevitable. Some people, on the other hand, do the exact opposite. In this episode, I'm joined by the extraordinary Cheryl Tsieprati, co-author of "One Blink At At Time," a book she co-authored with her late husband, Ismael Tsieprati, in which they alternate between chapters to share their experiences as they went through Ismael's fight with ALS. Cheryl worked for 40 years in the healthcare industry and has over 25 years of experience in training, consulting, instructional design, writing, and editing. As a journalist, she received an Associated Press, Western Region award for her work on the "Retailing in the '80s" newspaper series. Cheryl also gives presentations, sharing her story and teaching people how to live a happy and meaningful life despite adversity. Throughout our conversation, you'll hear Cheryl's fantastic story of resilience and insistence in enjoying life despite seeing her husband struggle with a degenerative disease. Cheryl also talks about how she found out about Ismael's condition by accident, explains the meaning behind the book's name, talks about the importance of focusing on living to the fullest and enjoying life despite the circumstances, and more.Tune in and listen to episode 166 of Grief and Happiness, and find out why sometimes happiness is purely a matter of perspective. In This Episode, You Will Learn:Cheryl talks about her determination to visit Ismael's favorite places (4:10)Why most people pause their lives after they get diagnosed with a degenerative disease (7:00)Cheryl shares the story of how she found out about Ismael's condition (11:00)Rows of letters.
