Alysse Godino, Money Coach and Founder of Saffron Money tells her story of transformation during her week at the Hoffman Process. But like all stories of transformation, it begins long before her time at Hoffman. When the Maui fires hit, Alysse was preparing to fly to California for her Process. She wondered if she should go, wondering if it made sense to go during a time of such emergency. But she knew it was the right time, and her transformation was fueled by her grief of what was happening on the island she loves. When Alysse returned home to Maui, she was ready to contribute to rebuilding her community. It was time to put the inner change she experienced into external action. This is a beautiful example of Love's Everyday Radius. What caused Alysse to enroll in the Process wasn't any big traumatizing event. Rather, it was something that she noticed happening inside of her. On the outside, her life was good, even great. But on the inside, she felt an anxiety that wasn't tied to anything apparent. She would come to see, after her week at Hoffman, that she'd been living with an unconscious internal level of anxiety and anger for a long time. Through her work in the Process, she let go of it all. We hope you enjoy this powerful story of healing and love, community and rebuilding, loss and new life. More about Alysse Godino: Alysse has worn many hats in her 32 years. A San Francisco native, NCAA Division 1 athlete, Cornell University graduate, investment banker, Maui resident, founder, financial advisor, consultant, soul surfer, earth lover, and Hoffman graduate. After graduating from Cornell University, Alysse went straight to work as an investment banker in New York and San Francisco. After ~5 years of the corporate grind, Maui came into Alysse's life. At a moment's notice, she decided to retire from her corporate finance career and pursue a life on Maui. Almost 7 years later, Alysse surfs daily (sometimes twice daily if the waves are good) and runs her growing financial advisory business, Saffron Money, which focuses on helping millennial women and couples build 7-figure wealth. Self-Control is an outer sign of an inner change. (The True you always reveals what's in you.) By Pastor George Lehman “Though we cannot see the heart, we can see the life” [David Kirkpatrick] Each of the different characteristics of the Fruit of the Spirit focuses on how we respond to God and how we treat other people. John 15:11 – That our joy may be full Joy and faithfulness are expressed vertically while peace, patience, kindness, goodness, and gentleness bear directly on how we interact with others. And, the juiciest fruit, which is at the centre of our spiritual fruit salad, is love, which has both a horizontal and vertical dimension. HOW TO LIVE A LIFE OF SELF-CONTROL IN A SOCIETY OUT OF CONTROL 2 Timothy 3:2-3 - “People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, When the Greeks wanted to illustrate self-control, they built a statue of a man or a woman in perfect proportion. To them, self-control was the proper ordering and balancing of the individual. Husband: “When I get mad, you remain calm and don't react. How do you maintain your self-control? ”Wife: “I just go and clean the toilet.” Husband: “Really How does that help?” Wife: “I use your toothbrush.” Aristotle once said, “I count him braver who overcomes his desires than him who conquers his enemies; for the hardest victory is the victory over self.” The word translated “self-control” in the NIV is rendered “temperance” and in the King James Version. It comes from the word “strength” and means, “one who holds himself in.” To be self-controlled is to not live in bondage to the desires, passions, and appetites of the flesh. While “self-control” is a good translation of the Greek word, it's a bit deceiving because we all know that we can't control ourselves simply through our own willpower or self-determination. Self-control is more than just self-help. Paul speaks of our dilemma in Romans 7:18 - “I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good but I cannot carry it out.” We can get a fuller meaning of self-control from Paul's extended discussion of his ministry in this passage, Paul contrasts exercising control over his body with running “aimlessly”. 1 Corinthians 9:25-27 - “25Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 26 Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air. 27 No, I strike a blow to my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize. He argues that athletes exercise self-control because they have a clearly defined purpose or goal. They cannot afford to be distracted by every passion or desire that comes along. We can therefore define this final fruit of the Spirit as the “control of the self by the Spirit for the sake of the gospel.” What looks like self-control is actually the result of letting someone else take control. Self-control, biblically speaking, means walking by the Spirit, under the Lordship of Christ. It's not by human effort or willpower – but by the supernatural work of the Holy Spirit. God will not give us His Spirit of self-control if it were not possible to control-self. In order to fully understand this fruit, it's helpful to describe what the absence of self-control looks like. Proverbs 25:28 provides a dramatic description of the individual living out of control, “Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control.” When the book of Proverbs was written, one of the main sources of strength and protection for a city consisted in the building and maintaining of walls. A wiped-out wall was considered a breach in security. A city with walls in disrepair was a city with a shameful reputation. That's one of the reasons Nehemiah was so motivated to begin a building campaign in Nehemiah 1:3 - Those who lived in the capital were in “great trouble and disgrace” because the wall of Jerusalem was broken down.” It was open to attack and ultimate destruction. The man or woman who lacks self-restraint is like a city that has no effective defence. They are not able to resist those things that can destroy their lives and the lives of others. SELF-CONTROL or controlling self: Would you agree that most of the other fruit depend on this one. If the enemy is going to attack - this is always a very good target. How to Develop Self-Control #1 - Know God's word (Who God is, what He's done for you, who are you in Him) The very first thing to enable us to cultivate self-control is knowing God's Word. 2 Timothy 3:16 - 16All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work. And the only way to know God's will is to know his word, and the only way to know his word is to read it, and study it, and hear it often, and apply it. #2 - Be aware of the danger of the lack of self-control. Matthew 5:29-30 - “29If your right eye makes you stumble, tear it out and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. 30If your right hand makes you stumble, cut it off and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to go into hell.” If anyone doubts that the Bible teaches of the reality of Hell, you have to realize that Jesus is the one that talks the most about Hell. And so, how to develop self-control, number two: be aware of the danger of the lack of self-control. #3 - Be prepared to suffer (You need to be willing to pay the price of following Jesus) Jesus says in Matthew 16:24 to his disciples, what should they do if they want to be his disciples? Well, he says, "They have to deny themselves and pick up their crosses and follow him. Most people who fail at gaining self-control over self. They fail because they think this should come without cost. I Corinthians 10:13 - “No temptation has overtaken you, but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it. #4 – Pray Jesus in keeping His human body under control required effort, just like the rest of us. How many times we say the Lord's prayer? We say it by heart. "Lead us not into temptation..." Do we just think that's like a closing thing? Matthew 26:41 - “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” How desperate are you to allow God to help you to become more SELF-CONTROLED? Zechariah 4:6b (Amp) – Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit [of Whom the oil is a symbol], says the Lord of hosts.

Today, I'd like to talk about Inner Change, and how - at its heart - it's about returning to Self. This was a surprisingly emotive topic for me. You'll hear there's a moment I need to gather myself before continuing - proof (if I needed it) of the significance and importance of connecting deeply and compassionately with ourselves. Some of the things I cover, include:The importance of reflecting on how far we have travelled How taking off my rose-tinted spectacles was part of my own change journeyThat change goes beyond resolutions and goalsThe difference between Will Power and Way Power (part of Motivational Theory)The fundamental truth that caring deeply for your Self is part of caring deeply for the world and the people around youI also share a piece of writing I originally wrote on Instagram, and it felt useful to include it here...I've been noisier than usual recently. Sharing poems, thoughts, things about myself. It's surprising me but I'm going with it. Something is drawing me to speak. And maybe it's you I'm speaking to? Maybe you're feeling like you want to be heard? Maybe something within you is asking to be seen? Maybe you sense an awakening of a long dormant part? Maybe… maybe you'd like to talk? Maybe it's time? Maybe you've been wondering about this for a while? Maybe it's a new surgence* within? Maybe you've been doing the Work for a while and want to see what to do with what you've found? Maybe this change you feel rising feels overwhelming at times? Maybe you're seeking a guide. Maybe having someone walking beside you a while would feel like comfort and courage combined. If a yes arises to one or more, then maybe you are why I'm here right now, asking all these maybes. Maybe this is the moment to reach in? Once again, we have the great honor of having Dr. Sundiata Soon-Jahta on our podcast! This time, we talk about how social justice movements can often perpetuate the very systems of oppression and power-over dynamics that we're trying to walk away from, resulting in what Dr. Sundiata shares is a system archetype called a “feedback loop”. The solution? Well, as a systems thinker and anti-oppression organizer, Dr. Sundiata suggests that we all engage in some serious inner work. He believes that change is fractal and when we change within, it affects our outside reality and those around us. So, instead of feeling disempowered by all the injustice we see in our world, we can empower ourselves to be the very change we dream of and show up for our young people, families and communities in the ways we truly strive to. ~ You can find all of Dr. Sundiata's work including his Theory of Indivisibility and other think pieces and resources mentioned in the episode here: https://drsundiata.com https://drsundiata.com/blog/ And if you enjoy what you hear, please consider supporting Dr. Sundiata's work here: https://www.patreon.com/LiveIndivisible/posts

Welcome to the Undeniable Level Up Podcast where we provide our listeners with life hacks to leveling up in business, leveling up in your career, leveling up in your personal lives, and even leveling up in your relationships. Why strive to be average, when you can be the best version of yourself with the tools, tips and sometimes with the tricks that we provide in our discussions. Last week we discussed the superhero task of raising children, in our episode titled, “It Takes a Village.” We shared with everyone ten key components to raising a successful child and challenged everyone to incorporate those components in their own children's lives. Today we are here to talk about starting a revolution. Don't worry, we are not talking about doing anything too crazy here. We are talking about a revolution of change in your life. We just want to help you in your journey to leveling up. Starting a revolution in your life can be an exciting and transformative experience. To many a revolution is seen as a sudden, radical, and often violent change in the political, social, or economic order of society. However, they can also be peaceful and involve changes in attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors that lead to a significant transformation in society. Historical examples include the fall of the Berlin Wall in Germany and the Civil Rights Movement in the United States. We are a couple months into the year now and if you are finding it hard to make those moves you know you want to and many times need to in your life, we have you covered. Today, we are going to start a revolution. The American Revolution was ignited with a speech given by Patrick Henry before the Virginia Convention in Richmond on March 23, 1775 where he said, “I know not what course others may take; but as for me, give me liberty, or give me death!” I think we can all agree that we have things in our lives that we want and / or need to change. No matter who you are, this should resonate with you and if not well you are perfect. HaHa! No one is perfect, so be honest with yourself. There are 5 steps to begin with in your revolution that we want to share with you all today. 1). Change Identification 2). Goal Setting 3). Plan Creation 4). Action 5). Support So lets jump right in… 1) Change Identification – The first step in starting a revolution in your life is to identify what you want to change. It could be your career, your relationships, your health, or any other area of your life that you feel is not where you want it to be. 2) Goal Setting – Once you know what you want to change, it's important to set specific, measurable goals that will help you achieve your desired outcome. Make sure your goals are challenging yet achievable and write them down to keep yourself accountable. If this is not familiar with you, check out our podcast on “Goal Setting.” I am huge fan of writing things down for a number of reasons. For starters I personally feel like writing something down shows commitment and provides accountability. Dr. Gail Mathers, a Psychology Professor at a Dominican University of California conducted research where she concluded that you are 42% more likely to achieve your goals by simply writing them down. Yes, you heard that right. Harvard University also conducted a study where they found that the 3% (yes a low number) of graduates from their MBA program who had their goals written down actually ended up earning 10 times as much as the other 97% put together (YES, PUT TOGETHER)! Guys and Gals, this is powerful! So, I utilize SMART goals when I set goals and I write it all down. At many times in my life people would laugh and me writing things down, making lists, and labeling and organizing things… but I was on to something even if I had no clue at the time. I set goals, I write them down, I reference them frequently adjusting as necesarry, and I crush them! 3) Plan Creation – I'm sure we have all heard the wise statement, “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” To do anything well, you have to plan. Think of this like a trip… A revolution doesn't happen overnight, so it's important to create a plan that outlines the steps you need to take to reach your goals. Break down your goals into smaller, manageable tasks and create a timeline for when you want to achieve each one.4) Action – Nothing is achieved without action. Now that you have a plan, it's time to take action. Start with the first task on your list and work your way through each one until you've accomplished your goals. Be prepared for setbacks and obstacles, but don't let them derail your progress. 5) Support – Surround yourself with support. Making big changes in your life can be challenging, so it's important to surround yourself with people who support and encourage you. Seek out like-minded individuals who are also making positive changes in their lives, and don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it. Get a mentor and don't surround yourself with people who do not challenge you. Level-up! We challenge all of you to identify the change or changes you want and / or need to make, set goals, create a plan, take action, and surround yourself with the support you need! Remember, starting a revolution in your life take courage, commitment, and perseverance. However, the rewards can be life-changing, so don't be afraid to take the first step. https://a.co/d/h0y483L - "The Power of Now" - Eckhart Tollehttps://a.co/d/j7qywVC - "Atomic Habits" - James Clearhttps://a.co/d/7bYr3Vw - "7 Habits of Highly Effective People" - Sean Covey ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

Welcome to Grace in Focus radio. Today, Bob and Shawn will be answering a question about “inner change.” First, the guys will discuss the distinctions between “inner change” vs “outer change.” Bob will provide some examples of “inner change” that occur at the moment of faith. In addition, the guys will give some practical advice
When we're trying to change the current program of our mind, we're faced with somewhat of a pickle: The tool we have to change it with is also what we're trying to change. Often, the current program of our mind can't even dream up what could be possible. What life could look like or what we're capable of. It can't see outside of itself. And IF it can, it often feels victimized by the fact that we're not there yet. So how can we change our inner world when we seem stuck in an old one? I found that there were three tangible things that accelerated my own inner change and that I see accelerating people's growth again and again when used well.In this episode of the Uncover YOU podcast, I share the three things you quite easily can bring into your life to accelerate your own progress. You find show notes in this post on my website. And if you want to get to the heart of meditation and go deeper into yourself than you've ever been before, Beyond The Mind is the course for you. Enrollment is now open for Beyond The Mind until April 21st. Enjoying the Uncover YOU podcast? Your one-sentence review would be most helpful! Leave a review on Apple podcasts here.

“The only thing that helps me is to feel like I'm holding hands with others who are remembering.” It seems like there are two types of people. Some are focused on fixing the external world – fighting to solve tough social problems. Other people are focused on healing their internal worlds – doing the spiritual work to deepen their own wisdom. What happens when we recognize the need for BOTH? Is it possible to combine the pursuits for outer peace and inner peace? This week, Van sits down with renowned mediation teacher and author, Tara Brach. Their discussion reveals ways that “inner bridge building” can help us tackle the most divisive issues of our time.New episodes of Uncommon Ground with Van Jones release weekly, every Wednesday. 9.12 [Sermon] Feet on the Ground : Psalm 131 It's always a privilege to hear from our good friend, Chris Lawrence of InnerCHANGE in East Harlem. Chris Lawrence - We are inundated, overwhelmed and easily crushed by the scale of what is needed to put things right in our world. Howard Thurman said “Don't ask yourself what the world needs. Ask yourself what makes you come alive, and go do that, because what the world needs is people who have come alive.” Psalm 131 calls us to humility. A Psalm of just three verses which has special resonance in a time of climate crisis, of failed attempts to bring peace to regions such as Afghanistan. So many of us feel unsure about how to be part of the solution and not just making things worse. Jesus wants us to live lives we can love. Humility and meekness in the face of complex apparently unsolvable issues is our calling.
Did you know that great things always start from the inside? That's right; if you want to change your life for the better, you have to start forcing yourself to take those small steps towards your dream self. Start thinking of all the things you can start changing within you and do them instead of waiting to be influenced by outside sources. In this episode of the Live Your Personal Best podcast, I talk about how to take control of your life by making internal changes. Listen in to learn how to force yourself to grow mentally by making the small steps you need to get you there. Key Takeaways: Force yourself to grow mentally and stop waiting for outside sources to decide for you. How to focus on the possibilities that are in your control to grow. How to make real change in your life from the inside. Episode Timeline: [3:00] Two life choices- you choose for yourself or life chooses for you. [8:15] Learn to put yourself first and take care of you by working out. [9:46] Force yourself to do things for yourself and not for other people. Creation and change takes place on the inside before ever seeing the light of day. What commitment can you make within yourself that will bring about a change of thought, belief and attitude? Inner Change. After holding our breaths for even more changes in April 2019 Conference, there were no more new announcements. It was a little disappointing at first. No major shifts! But there were a lot of talks about change. About buckling your seatbelt and preparing for the ride with more changes to come. With the ongoing restoration. The website describes the home-centered nature of the changes before they were publically announced. It focuses on the individual needs of families around the world and promotes flexibility and reducing the church burden on families. It even suggests a slightly new emphasis on Monday nights - suggesting spiritual learning on Sundays and activities on Mondays, adding to emphasize the flexible nature of the program or at other times as families choose. But leaders - still keep Mondays open. Overall the emphasis promotes personal development, growth and an inner change
