In fact, even Kirsten Beyer hasn't surpassed Golden's contributions to the series. In this episode of Literary Treks, hosts Casey Pettitt and Jonathan Koan discuss No Man's Land. “Wedding Bell Blues” Nurse Chapel wraps up her three-month fellowship with Dr. Roger Korby by returning to the Enterprise to celebrate Federation Day with a big glass of … awkward! It's a spirit the ship's Vulcan bartender can work with, especially since he turns out to be none other than galactic trickster Trelane. But he's not just a drink slinger, he's also a wedding planner—and an Andorian. At least that's how he appears to Spock and the rest of the crew as they prepare for a celebration of his and Chapel's love for one another. Korby, channeling Guinan à la “Yesterday's Enterprise,” realizes that the timeline has changed. And while he manages to snap Spock out of the delusion, they can't get anyone else on board, at least not until the last moment when Daddy Q shows up to scold junior. In this episode of Saddle Up! hosts C Bryan Jones and Matthew Rushing continue our journey through Strange New Worlds with “Wedding Bell Blues.” We discuss Chapel's character arc, contrast her and Spock's relationship with that of Pike and Batel, question the story's tone, and, of course, delve into the return of the lonely squire of Gothos. Pig out on pork belly with Curtis C. Chen as we discuss how he discovered Star Trek through the bars of his crib, how the superspy star of his Kangaroo trilogy was born, what it was like being critiqued by Pat Murphy and Ursula K. Le Guin when he was starting out, how taking voice acting lessons kickstarted his desire to write, the way to tell when it's time to quit your day job (or not), how his nearly five-years-long flash fiction story-a-week project began, his creative solution for referencing the 20th century in his future series, an intriguing exercise for writers when watching TV shows based on the written word, why he went indie for the third book in his series, and much more.

In a special episode of the Film Stories podcast, Simon is joined by director Matt Shakman. They were chatting at the junket for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which is now in cinemas. But this conversation went in lots of different directions. For your eardrums here, we go into Dick Tracy, Gremlins 2, the Star Trek film that never was, and the career-changing letter he wrote when he was young. Quite the chat this, with a movie junket question that struck gold... Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
“Hegemony, Part II” With part of his crew abducted in cold blood and orders to stand down and stay on the Federation side of the demarcation line, Captain Pike must balance duty as a Starfleet officer with duty as a leader responsible for the lives under his command. As La'an, Ortegas, M'Benga, and Sam Kirk fight their way out of the serpents' den, Spock and Chapel prepare for some unorthodox surgery to save Captain Batel's life while Uhura and Una hatch a plan to rescue their kidnapped crewmates. After preparing for ramming speed, the Enterprise punches back at the big lizards in their backyard and uncovers a surprise in another battle at the binary stars. The ultimate solution? Put the lizards to sleep and kick the can down the road. Sound familiar? In this episode of Saddle Up! hosts C Bryan Jones and Matthew Rushing continue our journey through Strange New Worlds with the Season 3 premiere, “Hegemony, Part II.” We discuss the challenge of continuing a story after a two-year break, the character progressions, the potential end of the Gorn threat, and the familiar nature of the resolution. In this special episode of Rewind, Tony Tellado dives deep into the groundbreaking sci-fi epic Babylon 5 — a series that boldly explored the human condition through the lens of interstellar politics, personal transformation, and existential stakes. Aired across five seasons as a "novel for television," the show redefined serialized storytelling and elevated science fiction into an artful mirror of society. Reflections from the late Michael O'Hare, Sci-Fi Talk's very first guest, on the transformation of Commander Jeffrey Sinclair and the emotional weight of his arc. Insightful commentary from creator J. Michael Straczynski (JMS) on the ambitious undertaking of writing nearly the entire series himself — an unprecedented feat in television history. Memorable moments with the late Andreas Katsulas, the soul of Ambassador G'Kar, who also reflects on his time in Star Trek. The unmistakable voice of Jerry Doyle, aka Chief Garibaldi, sharing candid thoughts on his role, the ensemble cast, and the show's legacy. A fascinating behind-the-scenes anecdote: JMS originally pitched Babylon 5 to Paramount — only to be rejected. Soon after, Deep Space Nine emerged. Coincidence or cosmic irony?

Oh MY have we got a good one for you this week! I am so thrilled to have the incredible George Takei on the show. What a joy to sit down with an absolute icon. George became a household name playing Sulu on many iterations of Star Trek. He also played Kaito Nakamura in Heroes and he and I had so much fun playing ourselves together on The Big Bang Theory. Throughout his career, George has always been an activist and we talk about that side of his life in this conversation as well. He has a new graphic memoir out now called “It Rhymes with Takei,” which is all about his experience as a closeted man in Hollywood and then coming out at age 68. We discuss what that time in his life was like, and we talk about the origins of his activism, going all the way back to his early childhood in an internment camp during World War II. It was a privilege to get to have this conversation and I hope you enjoy it! Be sure to stick around afterwards for the Hindsight, where my producer Jeph and I discuss the episode and I learn this is not the first time Jeph has met George Takei. Episode 672: Andrew loves to see James T. Kirk choppin' wood! We're talking Star Trek movies. Our 15 year anniversary is coming. What is "Jappalachia"? Our favorite movie milk scenes. CNN fakes war reporting. Is OJ innocent? Brett thinks so. Eleven hours filling a database. Puke throws a shovel at a groundhog, hilarity ensues.
A bonus episode with all of our junket interviews for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Laurie guides you through the four interviews that Tony conducted, adding her commentary along the way. There are three cast interviews in the following groups: Interview 1 with Melissa Navia (Ortegas), Celia Rose Gooding (Uhura) and Babs Olusanmokun (M’Benga); Interview 2 with Martin Quinn (Scotty) and Jess Bush (Chapel); Interview 3 with Rebecca Romijn (Number One) and Christina Chong (La’an). And the fourth interview is with executive producers and showrunners Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers. The cast interviews focus on their characters in season 3. The producers interview is broken into two parts, starting with a deep dive into the season 3 premiere (“Hegemony, Part II”) and then discussing how they plan on wrapping up the show in season 5, and their hopes to do another show set in the TOS era.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is back, baby! Anika and Liz fight off some Gorn and settle in to discuss the premiere! (We did not realise, when we recorded, that "Hegemony" part 2 would be dropping along with "Wedding Bell Blues", so we're only discussing that first episode now.) This is certainly an episode of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Is Chris Pike the human embodiment of a Democratic Party fundraising email? Are men too emotional to be in command? Pelia is single-handedly inventing Scotty Thank God we've confirmed that Ortegas is the pilot and flies the ship, we were really confused on that point We are really optimistic for La'an's story to keep evolving this season "They are actively trying to destroy Christine Chapel, and I take it personally." There's some worrying stuff in this episode, and even more alarming comments made by Akiva Goldsman at the premiere We are very much in favour of religion in Star Trek, but Pike praying before telling his girlfriend her consent and bodily autonomy don't matter is… The USS Pablo Picasso was … a choice Concept: Christine and Marie should ditch their boyfriends and date each other We're glad Captain Batel isn't dead; now we're concerned she's gonna get the Bix ending Has SNW killed Pike/Una as a thing people ship?
What happens when you ask Starfleet's most logical mind to make sense of modern America? From politics to conspiracy theories, climate denial to social media chaos, Commander Spock doesn't pull punches. He even offers his thoughts on the current state of Star Trek—and yes, he has opinions about blowing up the Enterprise, killing off Kirk, and the eyebrow-raising “young Spock.”No emotion. No spin. Just reason.
Star Trek BOLDLY goes where no man has gone before ... for the 3rd season
Ryan and Brady explore some Klingon stuff and some Spock stuff and try to remember what the hell was going on in Star Trek Discovery Season 2. Is this the most confusing Star Trek season to watch out of context... even if you've already seen the whole thing front to back?
Writer Peter David visited the Crawlspace several times over the years. This was his first visit and it was a fun interview. Peter talks about his first year on the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man tile. He also touches on his Star Trek, Hulk and Fallen Angel work. This was from our 6th podcast in February of 2007. Rest in Peace Peter David!

Season 3 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is on us like a swarm of Gorn on digestion chamber intruders. There's lots of good stuff including the some impressive action sequences, a healthy dose of Treknobabble, and a well-acted tearjerker of a scene. And then there's the bad, which mostly consists of our chair-focused pitches for the rest of the series. Beam your feedback to startrek@baldmove.com. Lingthusiasm - A podcast that's enthusiastic about linguistics
We asked you if a burrito was a sandwich, and you said 'no'. We asked you if ravioli was a sandwich and you said 'heck no'. We asked you if an ice cream sandwich was a sandwich and things...started to get a little murky. This isn't just a sandwich problem: you can also have similar arguments about what counts as a cup, a bird, a fish, furniture, art, and more! So wait...does any word mean anything anymore? Have we just broken language?? It's okay, linguistics has a solution! In this episode, your hosts Gretchen McCulloch and Lauren Gawne get enthusiastic about why deciding what's in and what's out of the definition of a word is so dang tricky, why people love to argue about it, and how prototype theory solves all the "is X a Y" arguments once and for all. Note that this episode originally aired as Bonus 9: Is X a sandwich? Solving the word-meaning argument once and for all. We've added an updated announcements section to the top and a few new things about prototypes and meaning to the end. We're excited to share one of our favourite bonus episodes from Patreon with a broader audience, while at the same time giving everyone who works on the show a bit of a break. We talk about the Vulcan salute from Star Trek, the Wakanda Forever salute from Black Panther, and the three-finger Hunger Games salute, and how all three have crossed over with additional symbolism into the real world. We also talk about gestures that have crossed over in the other direction, from the real-world origins of the Vulcan salute in a Jewish blessing, the two-finger blessing in the Foundation tv series from classical Latin and Greek oratory via Christian traditions, as well as religious gesture in the Penric and Desdemona series, smiles and shrugs in A Memory Called Empire, and more. Patrick opens with stories from listeners in the trades, questioning if hands-on jobs like garbage collection and machining could outlast the AI boom, all while sprinkling in sharp humor about robot insurance and future-proof careers. He tackles Catholic faith topics head-on, from unpacking the nature of God’s love, to candidly weighing the pros and cons of attending Society of St. Pius X Masses, laying out the deep tensions between tradition and Church unity. In a personal turn, Patrick reflects on raising eleven children, offering raw, practical encouragement about family life and sacrifice, before fielding questions both philosophical and delightfully mundane. Jorge – A.I. will not be taking the garbage jobs (00:41) Rosie - What do you think about the Neo Catechumenal Way? (02:30) Email – Are there any good Star Trek series anymore? (04:05) Brother John - I don't think God loves us unconditionally, I think there are conditions for God's love. (06:00) Stuart - I teach Tai Chi and there is nothing wrong with it. There is no spiritual aspect to it. There are branches that are more spiritual but don't have to be. (10:39) Ken - I am a machinist and wanted to talk about working in a trade. The threat in my field is 3D printing. (17:39) Theresa - Are we allowed to go to the SSPX mass? (23:28) Richard - You still need human beings to fix AI. (35:08) Thomas - How did you and Nancy parent so many children? (39:29) Matt - Does God love everyone equally or does he love some more than others? (48:32)
