It's not a stretch to say that the last few years have left Americans more tired than ever. However, for many people who have trouble sleeping, they are more than tired. Each night is an anxious odyssey where getting a good night's sleep feels like a battle to win rather than the easy and refreshing experience it should be. The problem is that too many people approach sleep as an issue of control rather than focusing on changing their relationship to sleep. The truth is that we all already know how to sleep – we don't need a formula to fix it, or a collection of tips to optimize it because perfection is neither necessary nor sufficient for sustainable sleep health.Dr. Jade Wu, behavioral sleep medicine specialist and researcher, has helped hundreds of patients over the last ten years. I am fascinated by sleep and also—perhaps, relatedly—not very good at it. Like tens of millions of Americans, I've had trouble falling asleep and staying asleep for most of my life. I also know that sleep is the glue that holds together health—a fact that sometimes haunts me as I toss and turn at night. Behind the fitness and health fads, what's the truth about insomnia? How dangerous is it? When do we know when we have a problem? How is it different from sleep deprivation? What have we learned about sleep in the last few decades that's most important for average people to remember? Dr. Jade Wu, a behavioral sleep medicine specialist and researcher at Duke University School of Medicine and the author of 'Hello Sleep: The Science and Art of Overcoming Insomnia Without Medications,' explains how the modern panic about sleep and insomnia misunderstands some fundamental facts. Over the past decade, the importance of sleep has rapidly made it's way to the forefront of importance for our wellbeing. That attention has been accompanied by a plethora of apps, books, articles and more to provide us with all the tools and knowledge to improve our sleep. But what happens when none of those work? What happens when you try all the tools, follow all of the advice, and STILL can't seem to get a good night sleep? Today we're going to answer that question, as internationally recognized behavioral sleep medicine specialist, Dr. Jade Wu, walks us through the step-by-step process of overcoming insomnia, sleeping pills, and the angst many of us feel as night approaches and we wonder if tonight will just be a rehashing of our prior struggles.Welcome to the Catalyst 360 podcast, your trusted source for engaging, evidence-based health, wellness & performance insights each and every week since 2018. If you've struggled with sleep over the years, I'm right there on the journey with you. While I haven't gone down the sleep meds path, I have tried just about everything else. Room temperature, sleep schedule, eye covers, Sleep Bud ear plugs, fueling adjustments, caffeine restrictions and more. They made a difference, but I continued to go through notable rough patches with my sleep. Maybe you're there with me. Maybe you, or someone close to you, are wondering if it'll always be that way. If so, today's discussion with Dr. Jade Wu, author of the brand-new book “Hello Sleep,” might be a life-changing episode. While she will touch on the latest sleep hygiene guidelines, most of our conversation focuses on CBT-I, or Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia and the actual step-by-step process of how we can utilize that approach to improve our sleep. Looking for weekly tips, tricks and turbo boosts to enhance your life? Snakehead is the crime saga the debut feature film of writer and director by Evan Jackson Leong is as much about the gritty underworld of human trafficking, as it is about the emotional toll being an immigrant takes on the psyche. Through his main female characters Sister Tse (Shuya Chang) and Dai Mah (Jade Wu) audiences see the generational gap of the new and old.Desperate to find and reconnect with her daughter after eight years of separation, Sister Tse puts her life in the hands of Snakeheads - Chinese smugglers to traffic illegal immigrants - to the cost of $57,000. Refusing to repay the debt through sex work, Sister Tse works to get in good with the head of the criminal enterprise, Dai Mah , and earn her way out by using her street smarts, keen observational skills and will. As Sister Tse grows closer to Dai Mah she begins to consider whether the woman who has the power to get her killed is worth trusting, and Dai Mah learns that the way she thinks the way the world works, isn't necessarily true. As these two women get into a power struggle, Dia Mah's son Rambo (Sung Kang) begins to make his own moves, that could put everyone and everything in danger with their community and the law.In her conversation with Chang and Wu for Carolyn Talks..., they speak about playing their multi-dimensional characters who do what they can to stay on top in a world dominated by men. But we wanted to know how this rising filmmaker got his start - bridging old school and new school techniques, how strong Asian matriarchs had to be at the forefront of his first feature film, and why it took him fourteen years to complete (it was worth it). She is a teacher, writer, content creator, and the person behind InspirLang, a Chinese language school in NYC that focuses on Mandarin Chinese, Cantonese, and Taishanese language teaching. It offers online courses, private and group classes to adult learners.  Her name is Jade Wu. In our conversation, we went in-depth on the origin story of Jade, from her early beginnings growing up in China till her immigration to America as a teen to her becoming a Chinese-American diaspora teaching the Chinese languages in NYC. The sleep tracker has become the latest must-have tech gadget. I've gone through at least half a dozen myself as my efforts in tracking my sleep have gone through a number of iterations. The obsession with the data sleep trackers spit out can cause its own special brand of insomnia – orthosomnia, the sleep nerds call it. (We discussed orthosomnia a couple of times on the show before. We've talked to Dr. Seema Khosla about it, and Dr. Jade Wu, among others.) However, trying to find just the right way to go about tracking my sleep served a specific purpose, in my case. I'm writing a book about my lifelong battle with insomnia, and I'm trying to help others by road-testing a number of things that claim to give you a good night's sleep. (I leaked the first three chapters in audiobook form here.) The trouble is, if I don't have a dependable sleep tracker, I have no real way of knowing what worked and what didn't. That's where Dr. Seema Khosla comes in. She's the former chair of the Presidential Technology Committee of the https://aasm.org/ (American Academy of Sleep Medicine). As a result, she has seen every gadget and piece of gear that's out there. She has also tried several of them herself. It Was Like Christmas! Last week, Seema sent me a large box, filled with sleep tracker after sleep tracker. I now have more of these gadgets myself than your average Best Buy. However, my conversations – both on and off the air – with Seema have led me to make a change to my original plan for the book, which was to use a Fitbit Versa 2 as my go-to for tracking my sleep. Few people would take my amateur research project seriously, because the data was likely to be flawed right out of the gate. We talk our way through an “unboxing” of the various devices she sent me, while we save for last the one I'm going to be using going forward. [SPOILER ALERT: I'm going to be tracking my sleep with a Dreem 2 headband. You'll hear us discuss why in the episode. The people at Dreem didn't give me a tracker to use; far from it, in fact. However, https://dreem.com/#ae247 (if you click this link) and end up getting a Dreem 2 headband of your own, I get a tiny little “thank you” check from them.]

As Luke Cage (Mike Colter) tries to come to terms with events he is determined, with the help of Bobby Fish (Ron Cephas Jones), to keep Pop's Barber Shop open for the sake of Harlem and its community. He heeds the wise words of Pop and his call to action - "Forward Always". Set on a new path Luke Cage begins to target Cornell Stoke's (Mahershala Ali) crime operations and safe houses to hit him where it hurts in his pocket. This culminates in an audacious raid on "The Bank" at the Crispus Attucks building. Luke's work in Harlem does not go unnoticed as Detective Knight (Simone Missick) becomes increasingly suspicious of Cage's involvement in the the attacks against Cottonmouth and the events at the Barber Shop. However, Cottonmouth is one step ahead of the cops as his inside man in the N.Y.P.D. reveals, after killing Chico, that Luke Cage is the man behind the attacks. While the Korean War ended in 1953 with a temporary armistice, a formal peace treaty was never signed. The United States is still technically at war with North Korea, and tensions between the two countries remain high. Many view North Korea as a strange and rogue country that threatens U.S. security. But others argue that North Korea's actions have legitimate basis and that historical context is critical to understanding the issues. On this edition, we look at Korea's past conflicts and current tensions to understand how to avoid another war in the peninsula.
