Vitamin D3 + K2 is in almost every menopause supplement stack — but most women are using it incorrectly and expecting it to be a fat-loss magic pill.   In this episode, I break down exactly how Vitamin D3 and K2 work in the menopausal body, why vitamin D receptor sensitivity drops after estrogen declines, and how that directly affects bone density, hormone health, mood, inflammation, and fat loss.   You'll learn:   ✅ Why Vitamin D receptor activity crashes in menopause ✅ How K2 properly shuttles calcium into bone for remodeling and density ✅ Why supplements do NOT come before nutrition, macros, recovery, and training ✅ The menopausal fat-loss hierarchy that actually determines results ✅ Why supplement overlap and redundancy is stalling your progress ✅ How bloodwork determines true deficiency (and when you don't need D3 at all) ✅ Why stacking supplements on top of HRT, berberine, thermogenics, or sleep aids often backfires ✅ How sunlight, training, calcium intake, and food logs change your supplement needs   We also cover why the "everyone should take a multivitamin" mindset is outdated, how to avoid wasting money on unnecessary supplementation, and how to build a supplement strategy that actually matches your physiology instead of TikTok trends.   If you're menopausal and taking:   Vitamin D3 Vitamin K2 Melatonin Berberine Thermogenics Multivitamins   …this episode will save you money, confusion, and stalled results.

Send us a textEp 686: You've heard about taking hormones, the dangers, the nice juicy bump to libido, but what it there's more to it than just that? Should You Take Testosterone or Estrogen? Find out from Dr Nayan Patel, a clinical pharmacist, & educator. Is it bad to take hormones? Beyond Bad Hormones: Why Bioidentical Therapy and Lifestyle Matter More Than You Think for not only libido and healthy sex organs, but brain health, heart health, AND for bone health. Sounds like the fountain of youth for healthy, happy longevity. What if it's a piece of the puzzle? What if the pharmaceutical industry's lack of profit incentive has left a massive gap in modern wellness?Dr. Nayan Patel, author of "The Glutathione Revolution," reveals why hormone replacement therapy got such a bad reputation in the first place. (Spoiler: it's all about synthetic versus bioidentical hormones.) Here's the thing—early hormone studies showed adverse effects in only two percent of participants, but pharmaceutical companies never bothered studying bioidentical human hormones because the profit potential was too limited. That decision continues to impact millions of people today.Dr. Patel, "The bulk of the solution is in your own hand."Interestingly, Dr. Patel breaks down hormone health using a pyramid model where *stress management* accounts for 40% of solutions, diet and insulin management comprises 30%, thyroid function 10%, and sex hormones only 10%. Most practitioners miss the fundamental issues at the pyramid's foundation, focusing instead on prescribing hormones without addressing underlying stress and dietary behaviors. In fact, a nine-year French study of 3,100 women demonstrated that balanced hormone replacement therapy can reduce breast cancer risk below that of women with no risk factors. As we've doubled our lifespan beyond our biological design for procreation, proper hormonal health becomes essential to enjoying this extended life.Key Takeaways:• **The hormone crisis wasn't about hormones themselves, but outdated synthetic formulations** — poor HRT outcomes stemmed from non-bioidentical hormones, not inherent hormone harm, making modern bioidentical approaches fundamentally different• **Hormones rank lower than lifestyle factors in treatment hierarchy** — stress management and nutrition are more foundational to health than hormone supplementation, making them the true priorities• **Hormonal optimization requires holistic integration, not just prescriptions** — effective treatment demands individualized approaches combining emotional connection, gratitude practices, and self-care alongside any hormonal interventionConnect with Dr. Patel:http://aurowellness.com/Book: The Glutathione Revolution (affiliate link) https://amzn.to/3LpgNgt Support the showExclusives https://www.buzzsprout.com/1599808/subscribeNewsletters https://subscribepage.io/ruanwillowhttps://linktr.ee/RuanWillow Affiliates Firm Tech 15% OFF with code ruan15 https://myfirmtech.com/ruanwillow BeeDee dating app https://beedee.app/?r=ohfuckyeahThe Fantasy Box DATE30 for $30 OFF 1st box https://thefantasybox.sjv.io/c/6250602/2141126/26423

In response to the article I wrote in The Times about whether I was daft for not using skinny jabs to lose weight, I thought revisiting my conversation with Johann Hari about his book Magic Pill, which extensively researched the benefits, limitations and risks of GLP-1 Agonist drugs such as Ozempic, Semaglutide, Wegovy and Mounjaro.Johann is thorough and meticulous in his research and this interview, originally broadcast in 2024, was before weight loss drugs became as mainstream and as widely prescribed as they are today. One of the experts Johann interviewed during his years of research, stated that the cultural impact of GLP-1s was as significant as the smart phone. At the time, it seemed like a very bold statement, but in the year since we spoke, I think it's hard to argue that they haven't completely changed the way we talk about weight, weight loss, diets, food and more...I'd love to hear your thoughts on this episode. The diets vary, and the level of meat is far more than what tends to be represented. The one thing all the Blue Zone cultures have in common is an active outdoor lifestyle. (37:00) If you want to get rid of heart disease, you must get rid of processed foods. (38:00) Lean Mass Hyper Responders have a different starting point to consider. (40:00) High cholesterol (LDL) in and of itself is not necessarily a problem; you need to look at it in conjunction with other factors. (42:00) The ADA launched the American Obesity Association. Novo Nordisk has contributed funds to the ADA. Novo Nordisk is the company that brought us Wegovy. (51:00) GLP-1s are not a Magic Pill; if they were, they wouldn't have deadly side effects. (52:30) The ADA amended its guidelines to say that GLP-1s should be the “first line of defense” of correction for T2 diabetes, rather than lifestyle. (54:00) The ADA is disengenuous because it receives millions of dollars from Big Food corporations each year to *not* tell you to cut out sugar and processed foods. (55:00) The information the ADA gives cannot entirely be trusted because of the sources of funding it receives. Follow Vinnie on X @vinnietortorich. #254 Why There's NO Magic Pill for HPV or ANY Health Issue!

How Humans Heal

In this episode, I'm going to be talking about the concept of the "magic pill" and I'm going to be especially using it to talk about risk for HPV-related cancer, specifically cervical cancer in women. But I encourage you to listen in regardless of what health issue you're dealing with to better understand the mindset, perspective, and paradigm shift that I see my patients making in order to truly transform their health. The magic pill concept is about a fictional or hypothetical medication that can miraculously heal or cure any kind of health issue from a single pill without any side effects or limitations. I think we can all relate to this – we would all love it if there was some magic pill we could swallow that takes away all of our pain, whether physical or emotional, cancer risk, or whatever troubles we're experiencing in our life. Wouldn't that be amazing if we could just take a pill and it all goes away? When we get a headache, we immediately think, "Where's that pill I could take to make the headache go away?" Sometimes it works – we take a pill and the headache disappears. The problem is if we get a headache every day and take that pill every day, eventually that pill can start to have side effects and negative impacts on our bodies. At that point, even if that pill is taking our headache away, it might be causing a stomachache, for example. This is the limitation of taking a medication or substance we often turn to for a quick fix. As humans, we have to learn to stop ourselves from chasing that next shiny object, hoping that one thing is going to fix everything and we're never going to have to think about it again. We need to realize that the reality is that most often, things are not really fixed with a magic pill. They're more often resolved with true intention and transformation. https://www.youtube.com/live/mTyHU0ZwcjI Imagine sitting across from someone confidently telling you, “You can be your own bank. No more reliance on traditional banks, no credit checks, and complete control over your finances—all while your money grows tax-free.” At first, it might sound too good to be true, like a fairy tale in the world of finance. That's where Becca started, skeptical and ready to dismiss the idea entirely. But as she dug deeper, she couldn't deny the transformative power of the concept. Today, we're breaking down what it truly means to have access to cash and how it can reshape your financial future. Why Access to Cash Matters1. The Misconception: Infinite Banking as a “Magic Pill”2. Understanding Opportunity Cost3. Breaking Free from Traditional Banking4. The Power of Collateralized Loans5. Building Generational Wealth5. The Process vs. the ProductWhy This MattersBook A Strategy Call Why Access to Cash Matters Access to cash isn't just about liquidity—it's about control, empowerment, and freedom. Whether you're running a business, planning for retirement, or preparing for life's surprises, having a reliable system to manage and grow your money is a game changer. In this article, we'll explore the misconceptions about the Infinite Banking Concept, unpack how it truly works, and show how it can offer you financial peace of mind. By the end, you'll understand why Infinite Banking isn't just a product or a buzzword but a disciplined process that can provide stability and opportunity for you and future generations. 1. The Misconception: Infinite Banking as a “Magic Pill” A common critique of Infinite Banking is the belief that it's simply an easy-access cash machine for undisciplined spenders. Critics argue that it promotes financial irresponsibility, allowing people to bypass traditional financial discipline. Reality Check: Infinite Banking is a process, not a product. It's not about avoiding discipline but embracing it. It encourages building financial reserves systematically, using specially designed whole life insurance policies as a foundation. These policies offer guaranteed growth, liquidity, and flexibility, but only if you're committed to the discipline of funding them. 2. Understanding Opportunity Cost Most people don't realize that every dollar spent is a dollar that could have earned compound interest. This is known as opportunity cost. When you borrow from traditional banks or pay cash for big purchases, you're either paying interest to someone else or forfeiting the interest your money could have earned. Infinite Banking changes that equation. By storing your money in a whole life insurance policy, you not only retain access to it but also allow it to continue growing uninterrupted. This “dual benefit” is what makes the strategy so powerful.  Over time, the uninterrupted compound growth within your policy creates a financial reservoir that amplifies your wealth while maintaining access to cash. 3. Breaking Free from Traditional Banking Traditional banking systems are built on misaligned incentives. Banks profit from your money while you bear the risks and limitations. When you deposit money into a bank, it's no longer yours in a practical sense—it becomes a liability for the bank to manage. With Infinite Banking, you flip the script. As a policyholder and participant in a mutual insurance company, you own the banking function. You earn dividends, maintain control over your capital, and have the freedom to decide repayment terms on policy loans. This alignment of interests ensures that your financial priorities are not at odds with the institution holding your money. 4. The Power of Collateralized Loans One of the most misunderstood aspects of Infinite Banking is the policy loan feature. Critics may say, “Why borrow your own money?” But the key is that you're not borrowing your money—you're using it as collateral to access the insurance com...

What are the implications these medications have for people with eating disorders? Why are they associated with drastic muscle mass loss? Why are some scientists warning about their affect on depression? Obesity has many risks, but so do these medications. On this show, we talk a lot about ways to stop the interpersonal and intrapersonal violence of obsessing about thinness. Today's episode, though, is a bit of a departure… because this whole dynamic and debate has been deeply disrupted by the advent of Ozempic and other new weight loss drugs, which are technically called GLP1s. This is a controversial and touchy subject, to say the least. Journalist and best-selling author Johann Hari discusses his latest book Magic Pill: The Extraordinary Benefits and Disturbing Risks of the New Weight-Loss Drugs. He believes drugs like Ozempic are the equivalent of the invention of the iPhone – and will impact all of our lives, whether we like it or not, and whether we take them or not. And in Magic Pill, Hari – who somewhat ambivalently takes Ozempic himself – marinates in the complexity of all of this. This is Hari's third time on the show. He has come on before to discuss his books on distraction and depression—entitled Stolen Focus and Lost Connections. This is the latest episode of our Get Fit Sanely series. This is the third time we've done Get Fit Sanely, and in this go-round, we'll be covering longevity, exercise, and the Buddhist case for laziness. Are new weight loss drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy "magic" pills that can put an end to the obesity epidemic? Johann Hari is here to give us the skinny! What We Discuss with Johann Hari: Processed and ultra-processed foods are a major driver of the obesity epidemic, as they undermine the body's natural ability to feel full and satisfied after eating. Moving from fresh, whole foods to mostly processed foods is strongly linked to the dramatic rise in obesity rates. Obesity is a complex issue with biological, psychological, and social causes. Factors like genetics, emotional eating, trauma, and the food environment all play a role. Stigmatizing or shaming people for their weight is cruel and counterproductive. New weight loss drugs like Ozempic and Wegovy work by artificially boosting satiety hormones like GLP-1, helping people feel full faster and eat less. They are showing impressive weight loss results, but also come with potential risks and side effects that are not yet fully understood, especially in the long-term. While these new drugs may help many people, they are not a magic solution. They don't address the underlying drivers of the obesity crisis in the food system and environment. To make a real difference, we need broader changes to make healthy eating the easy, default option. The good news is, each of us can take positive steps today to improve our health, no matter our current weight. Focus on adding more whole, minimally processed foods to your diet, and find physical activities you truly enjoy. Prioritize getting good sleep, managing stress, and building a strong social support network. Small, sustainable lifestyle changes can make a big difference over time. Be patient and kind with yourself in the process. You have the power to transform your health, one choice at a time. And much more...
