Play Ball with Faith: The Fred Greetham Storyย In the heart of Cleveland, Ohio, where the battle cries of sports echo through the city, Fred Greetham learned early on to cherish two words: play ball. Growing up in the shadows of Cleveland's iconic teamsโ the Browns, the Guardians (formerly Indians), and the Cavaliers โFred's love for sports became a defining chapter of his life.ย As a college student donning the Yellow Jackets' baseball jersey at Cedarville University, Fred aimed to be more than a player on the field. His playbook included deepening his faith in Jesus and laying the groundwork for a career in the sports arena. The dream? Professional baseball.ย Fred's college stats spoke volumes โ finishing with a remarkable .407 batting average and stealing 86 bases in 90 attempts. These numbers, usually a ticket to the pros, earned him a different recognition: a spot in Cedarville's Athletic Hall of Fame.ย Post-graduation, Fred's journey took unexpected turns. From the baseball diamond to the classroom, then pivoting to financial planning, he remained vigilant, seeking opportunities to leverage his communication skills in the realm of sports commentary. Today, he's a regular voice on Cleveland radio stations, covering the NFL Browns.ย Life, however, also threw him some curveballs. ย Facing his own battle with cancer, Fred's resilience mirrored his stolen bases โ swift and unyielding. Yet, his daughter's health crisis, in his eyes, eclipsed his own struggles. Through the trials, Fred's unwavering faith in Jesus sustained him, guiding him through each day, and inspiring his commentary on the Browns' relentless pursuit of a Super Bowl victory.ย In the grand arena of life, Fred Greetham embodies the fusion of sportsmanship and faith, where every play is a testament to perseverance, and every challenge met with an unwavering trust in a higher purpose.ย https://share.transistor.fm/s/90f78419

The 6-foot-6 guard validated Detroitโs decision to draft him No. 1 overall last year. He averaged 17.4 points to lead all rookies, ranked second among first-year players with 5.6 assists a game and grabbed 5.5 rebounds after overcoming an ankle injury that slowed the start of his career. So itโs no surprise to Turner that heโs at the center of trade rumors yet again as the longest-tenured Pacers player enters the final season of his contract. But Turner doesnโt seem to mind. For now, the 26-year-old still suits up for the team that drafted him and as long he stays in town, Turner intends to play winning basketball. Canada, like the United States, requires foreign nationals to be vaccinated when entering the country. No change in the mandate is expected in the U.S. in the near term. Prime Minister Justin Trudeauโs government has agreed to let a cabinet order enforcing mandatory COVID-19 vaccination requirements at the border expire Sept. 30. Transport Canada is also removing travel requirements and as of October 1 people wonโt have to wear masks on trains and planes. NHL โ National Hockey League โ Preseason Tonight Detroit Red Wings at Pittsburgh Penguins, 7:00 p.m. St. Louis Blues at Chicago Blackhawks, 8:30 p.m. NBA โ Pistons guard Cade Cunningham bulked up for 2nd NBA season Cade Cunningham packed on about 10 pounds of muscle in his first NBA offseason, hoping the added weight will help him lift his game and the Detroit Pistons to another level. He and the rest of the Pistons are back for camp, eager to improve on last yearโs finish. NBA โ Bulls set sights higher, look to build on run to playoffs The Chicago Bulls have their sights set higher after making the playoffs for the first time since 2017. They led the Eastern Conference for a big portion of the season with DeMar DeRozan playing at an MVP level. The Bulls were knocked out in the first round by Milwaukee. Chicago returns with its core group of players intact. The Bulls will be without point guard Lonzo Ball for at least 4-6 weeks after left knee surgery. NBA โ Turner heads into another season with Pacers, trade talk Indiana Pacers center Myles Turner has grown accustomed to the trade talk. He saw two-time All-Star Domantas Sabonis and Caris LeVert dealt away in February. He saw guard Malcolm Brogdon sent to Boston over the summer. NCAAFB โ Texas Tech fined for field storming when Texas player shoved Texas Tech was fined $50,000 and reprimanded by the Big 12 Conference because fans stormed the field following an overtime victory against rival Texas. A video of the celebration shows one of those fans shoving a Longhorns player. Texas Tech posted on social media a still shot from the video asking for help in identifying that fan. Texas senior edge rusher Ovie Oghoufo was shoved from behind by one fan running onto the field Saturday after the Red Raiders won 37-34. Texas coach Steve Sarkisian says Oghoufo showed great poise and composure in what could have turned into an ugly situation. NCAAFB โ Ga Tech fires Geoff Collins in 4th season with 10-28 mark Geoff Collins is out as Georgia Techโs football coach. Collins was fired in the midst of his fourth season after failing to make headway with a brash plan to turn the Yellow Jackets into a national powerhouse through branding and promoting Atlantaโs big-city culture. Collins was dumped two days after a 27-10 loss to Central Florida left him with a record of 10-28. Collins finished his tenure with a winning percentage of just .263 โ the lowest of 13 full-time coaches in the schoolโs history. Georgia Tech also fired athletic director Todd Stansbury. NASCAR โ AP Exclusive: Jimmie Johnson to retire from full-time racing Seven-time NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson tells The Associated Press that he is retiring from full-time racing and will turn his focus toward spending time with family. He figures his future schedule will include no more than 10 bucket-list events. The 47-year-old says he has no idea what his racing schedule will look like, or whether heโll run any IndyCar races next season. He wants to do the 24 Hours of Le Mans with NASCAR and Hendrick Motorsports, and has interest in โThe Doubleโ of the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600 on the same day. But he also wants to travel with his family and perhaps spend a year living abroad. MLB โ Major League Baseball Yesterday Houston Astros 21, Chicago White Sox 5 Chicago Cubs 3, Baltimore Orioles 2 Tigers were off Astros 21, White Sox 5 โ Bregman 2 HRs, 2 doubles, 6 RBIs, Astros trample Chisox 21-5 Alex Bregman hit two homers and two doubles, driving in a career-high six runs and powering the Houston Astros past the Chicago White Sox 21-5. Houstonโs run total tied for the second most in team history โ the Astros scored 23 against Baltimore in 2019. The Astros wound up with 25 hits as Bregman, Kyle Tucker and Christian Vazquez tied career highs with four each. McCormick, who had five RBIs, and Trey Mancini homered the AL West leaders. White Sox second baseman Josh Harrison pitched the ninth inning and allowed four runs and six hits in his third mound appearance of the season. The Astros won for the sixth time in their last eight games. Cubs 3, Orioles 2 โ Contreras hits 2 homers, Cubs outlast contending Oโs 3-2 Willson Contreras hit a pair of homers, Adrian Sampson pitched scoreless ball into the sixth inning and the Chicago Cubs beat the Baltimore Orioles 3-2. Contreras had his 10th multi-homer game, which ranks second among Cubs catchers behind Gabby Hartnett who had 14. Sampson allowed four hits with six strikeouts and two walks over 5 2/3 innings, earning his first win since last Sept. 14 at Philadelphia. Rafael Ortega also homered for the Cubs, who have won five of seven. Brandon Hughes picked up his first career save by getting a double play on a soft liner by Cedric Mullins in the ninth. Today Milwaukee (Ashby 2-10) at Chicago Cubs (Thompson 9-5), 2:20 p.m. Chicago White Sox (Lynn 3-5) at Cleveland (McKenzie 8-9), 7:10 p.m. L.A. He was injured going down the same slide Milwaukee mascot Bernie Brewer uses to celebrate home runs by the home team. Vassegh says he went down the slide twice Wednesday. The first time, he was filmed at the top of the slide, and everything went fine. The second time, he was filmed at the bottom, and thatโs when his right arm crashed into the padding. NFL โ National Football League โ Preseason Week 2 Last Night Chicago Bears 27, Seattle Seahawks 11 Bears 27, Seahawks 11 โ Smith, error-prone Seahawks struggle in 27-11 loss to Bears Geno Smith did little to distinguish himself in his battle with Drew Lock for Seattleโs starting quarterback job as the sloppy Seahawks fell 27-11 to the Chicago Bears in the second preseason game for both teams. The Seahawks had planned to start Lock but turned to Smith when Lock tested positive for COVID-19 on Tuesday. That meant another opportunity for Smith, but his uninspired performance suggests Lock still has a chance to win the job. Smith finished 10 of 18 for 112 yards and was hampered by teammatesโ mistakes while playing the first half. Second-year Bears quarterback Justin Fields made a brief appearance and led a field-goal drive. Saturday Detroit Lions at Indianapolis Colts, 1:00 p.m. NFL โ Brownsโ Deshaun Watson suspended 11 games, fined $5 million Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson will serve an 11-game unpaid suspension, pay a $5 million fine and undergo required professional evaluation and counseling following accusations of sexual misconduct by two dozen women. Watson was accused of sexually harassing and coercing women during massage therapy sessions while he played for the Houston Texans. The league had sought to ban him for at least one year for violating its personal conduct policy. Watsonโs suspension begins Aug. 30, when he wonโt be allowed at the teamโs facility. He may return for the Brownsโ game on Dec. 4 in Houston. Cleveland traded for the three-time Pro Bowler in March, signing him to a fully guaranteed $230 million contract WNBA โ WNBA Playoffs โ Round 1 (Best of three) Saturday New York Liberty at Chicago Sky, 12:00 p.m.ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย (NYL leads 1-0) NHL โ Nazem Kadri signs 7-year, $49M deal with Calgary Flames Gritty forward Nazem Kadri has signed a seven-year, $49 million contract with the Calgary Flames. He leaves the Colorado Avalanche after helping them win the Stanley Cup last season. He had a career year with 87 points in 71 regular-season games and kept that going into the playoffs with seven goals and eight assists sandwiched around a broken thumb. Kadri was considered the second-best NHL free agent available after winger Johnny Gaudreau, who left for Columbus. NCAA โ Big Ten โ B1G deal: Big Ten lands $7 billion, NFL-style TV contracts The Big Ten has announced its new, seven-year media rights deal with Fox, NBC and CBS that is believed to be the richest ever struck with a college sports conference. A person familiar with the contracts tells The Associated Press that the conferenceโs soon-to-be 16 member universities eventually will share more than $1 billion in revenue per year.
