But here's the catch: even highly respected researchers don't always agree, and that doesn't necessarily mean someone is wrong. In this episode, you'll meet several leading voices, learn where their research overlaps and differs, and get a better filter for deciding what deserves your attention. Anna Falk is the founder of WAM Protein and someone who built a brand specifically because she got fed up with how the supplement industry operates. That's a good starting point for a conversation. We get into all of it. What's actually in your protein powder and why the regulations around it are loose enough to make you uncomfortable. Proprietary blends and why they exist, spoiler: not for your benefit. Gender-specific supplements and why they're mostly nonsense dressed up in pink packaging. The sucralose debate. Creatine, leucine, bioavailability, protein bars, electrolytes, and the diet culture that's managed to worm its way into an industry that should know better.Anna also talks about starting WAM, what it actually takes to formulate a protein product properly, and why most brands aren't doing it. We start with Hyrox, which is where her story begins, and it goes from there. If you've ever stood in a supplement aisle and felt like everyone was lying to you, this is the episode.Find me:SubstackInstagramIron Without the BullBuy Me a Coffee

This one's a classic Culture Study ep. We've got a return Culture Study guest, Sara Petersen, talking about a recurring Culture Study topic: WTF is going on with the momfluencers? Because when we talk about momfluencers, we're obviously also always talking about the ways we want motherhood to be performed in public... and how we also want/crave/need to police that performance. How are today's up-and-coming (and old school and tired) momfluencers managing politics, MAHA, privacy, and the constant demand for more reels? What is it about these accounts that always make "family" feel like a conservative project? And what's going on with the Canva-style checklists for "how to visit my newborn baby"??? The Dad Edge Podcast (formerly The Good Dad Project Podcast)
In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Leonard Kaufman — board certified urologist and men's health physician with 25 years of experience practicing in South Florida. Dr. Kaufman specializes in urology, hormonal health, sexual health, and preventative men's health care, and he brings a level of warmth, honesty, and clinical depth to this conversation that you won't find anywhere else. We cover a lot of ground — from why reactive health care is costing men years of quality life, to what erectile dysfunction is really telling you about your cardiovascular health, to the TRT conversation every man in his 30s and 40s needs to hear before he walks into one of those clinics and shuts off his own fertility without knowing it. But this is not just a clinical episode. Dr. Kaufman is 33 years married, dad of three, and one of the most genuinely human guests we've had on this show. We talk about the deli where he met his wife in medical school, what 33 years of a real marriage actually looks like, how to build a home where your kids feel safe enough to tell you anything, and what his wife's early loss of her mother taught them both about not wasting time. If you've been putting off that appointment — this episode is the nudge you need. Timeline Summary [0:00] Introduction to the Dad Edge mission and the movement to raise leaders of families and communities [1:02] Reactivity vs. proactivity — why waiting until something is broken is costing men their lives [2:09] What Dr. Kauffman sees when men come in too late — prostate cancer, ED as a cardiovascular warning sign, and diabetes [4:14] How Viagra accidentally revolutionized men's health — and why men started showing up to doctors for the first time [7:27] Dr. Kaufman's background — board certified urologist, 25 years, fellowship in male infertility and andrology, MBA in Health Management [9:00] How he met his wife Cindy — a deli, a list of phone numbers, and a blind date that turned into 33 years [11:52] The non-negotiables of a long marriage — trust, transparency, communication, and shared values [13:49] Seen, heard, and safe — the three things a woman and your kids need to feel in your home [16:29] Vulnerability is not weakness in marriage — it's the foundation of real trust and real connection [19:49] What men most commonly come to Dr. Kaufman for — ED, low testosterone, and prostate health [32:00] ED is the canary in the coal mine — penile arteries are the first to show restricted blood flow, which means something else is coming [33:36] Diet talk — why extreme diets backfire and what a urologist actually recommends for men's health [38:45] The labs every man should be getting — ApoB, cholesterol panel, PSA, and why most men aren't being fully evaluated [42:07] Total testosterone vs. free testosterone — what the current guidelines actually say [43:15] Why getting a testosterone baseline in your 30s is one of the smartest proactive health moves you can make [44:17] Clomid as an off-label option — how it helps men produce their own testosterone instead of shutting the system down [45:06] The risks of walking into a TRT clinic without proper evaluation — fertility, blood thickness, PSA changes, and chasing a number that may not fix anything [51:10] Prolactin — what it is, why it matters, and what a high level could actually mean for your brain Five Key Takeaways Proactive health care is not weakness — it's how you stay around for your kids and grandkids. The men who wait until something is broken are the ones who look back and say "I should have come in a year ago." Erectile dysfunction is not just a bedroom problem. It's a cardiovascular warning sign. The smallest arteries in your body are affected first — and that means something bigger is building downstream. Before you walk into a TRT clinic, get a full workup from a qualified urologist. Young men are unknowingly shutting off their sperm production and permanently altering their pituitary axis without realizing it. Stop chasing the number. A man at 500 who feels great doesn't need to be pushed to 1,000. How you feel matters more than the number on the lab result. Safety is the foundation of everything — in your marriage and with your kids. When the people you love feel safe to bring you anything, it changes everything. Dr. Kaufman has spent 25 years watching men come in too late. Not because they didn't care, but because they were raised to believe that going to the doctor was weak. It's not weak. It's one of the most important acts of leadership a man can make. Get the labs. Know your numbers. And build the kind of home where the people you love feel safe enough to tell you the truth — because that's exactly what your doctor needs from you too. Go out and live legendary.

Are your "healthy" protein shakes loading your body with toxins? It's easy to assume supplements are clean, yet the data tells a very different story. When nearly half of protein powders exceed safety limits for heavy metals, it raises a serious question of whether they are helping or harming our bodies. Today I'm chatting with Oliver Amdrup-Chamby, CEO of Puori, to unpack what's really inside protein powders, collagen, and omega-3s. We talk about shocking industry findings, including testing that revealed widespread contamination, especially in plant-based proteins. Oliver shares how his company tests for over 200 contaminants and why transparency is the future. We also break down whey versus plant proteins, chocolate contamination, and how sourcing impacts your long-term health. If you're taking supplements daily, this conversation is essential. You'll learn what to look for on labels and how to make smarter choices. "Most pollution of our bodies doesn't come from a one-off exposure to a certain food. It comes from the accumulation of the things you're doing again and again." ~ Oliver Amdrup-Chamby In This Episode: - Oliver's backstory and why he co-founded Puori - Omega-3 quality and longevity - Heavy metals and other toxins in protein powders - SB 1033 regulation push and its significance - Heavy metals in chocolate protein powder - Types of protein powders: whey vs plant proteins - Toxicity in various powders, and concerns about soy protein isolate - Sustainable packaging versus purity - Quality ingredients and supplement testing for Puori products - Why Puori discontinued some products Products & Resources Mentioned: Puori - PW1 Grass-fed Whey Proteins: Use code WENDY to get 32% off your first order and get a free shaker worth $25 when you start a subscription at http://puori.com/wendy Tru Energy Bio Adaptive Hydration Oil: Try the oil and save up to $197 at http://trytruenergy.com/wendy5 Organifi Happy Drops: Save 20% with code MYERSDETOX at https://organifi.com/myersdetox Organifi Collagen: Save 20% with code MYERSDETOX at https://organifi.com/myersdetox Fresh-Pressed Olive Oil: Try a full-size $39 bottle for just $1 to cover shipping at https://getfreshwendy.com Heavy Metals Quiz: Find out your toxicity score and receive a free video series on detoxification at https://heavymetalsquiz.com About Oliver Amdrup-Chamby: Oliver Amdrup-Chamby is the co-founder and CEO of Puori, a Danish health supplement company focused on transparency and purity. Protein powder should be simple, but the supplement industry has made it anything but. With dozens of types, misleading labels, and marketing designed to confuse, most women end up buying something that does not work for their body, their goals, or their digestion, and then blaming themselves when it does not feel right. In this episode of Embrace Your Real, I cut through all of it and give you a clear, practical guide to understanding what every main type of protein powder actually does, how to read a label without getting tricked, and how to figure out which one is the right fit for you. I also get into why bloating from protein powder is almost never about the protein itself, what collagen is actually missing that makes it an incomplete protein source, and why the best protein powder is simply the one you will actually use consistently. What's Discussed: Why protein powder causes so much unnecessary confusion and what this episode will clear up What protein powder actually is and the one reason it exists Whey concentrate, what it is, who it is for, and why it is the most straightforward starting point Whey isolate, how it differs from concentrate, and why bloating may not be about the whey at all Casein, why it digests differently, and when it actually makes sense to use it Plant based protein, why pea and rice combined gives you a more complete profile, and what to watch on the label Egg white protein, why it is having a moment, and who it works best for Bone broth protein, what it actually supports, and why it is not a primary protein source Collagen, what it is missing, and why it cannot replace a complete protein source How to read a label without getting tricked, what to look for and what to avoid The trial and error reality and how to figure out what actually works for your body If you want clarity on how to calculate and hit your daily protein target in a way that actually works for your real life, check out Macro Counting Made Simple at macrocountingmadesimple.com And if you want your training structured so your nutrition and recovery are always working together, head to movementwithjulie.com to get started inside the Movement With Julie app. If you loved this episode, you'll also love: 325: Why You Need Protein to Build the Body You Want. Most people buying "clean" supplements are unknowingly loading their bodies with heavy metals, rancid fish oil, and glyphosate, even inside products labeled organic and healthy. This episode breaks down exactly what the supplement industry refuses to tell you and gives you the tools to stop poisoning yourself every morning. -Watch this episode on YouTube for the full video experience: https://www.youtube.com/@DaveAspreyBPR -Grab a discount on Puori Products by visiting: https://puori.com/pages/dave?dt_id=1750934 Host Dave Asprey sits down with Oliver Amdrup-Chamby, founder and CEO of PUORI and a serial entrepreneur in the health and wellness space with over 16 years building what has become one of the most rigorously tested supplement brands in the world. Oliver opened the first CrossFit gym in Denmark in 2006, served as Regional Director of CrossFit HQ across Europe and the Middle East, holds an Executive Program credential from Stanford, and advises longevity projects including One Thirty Labs in Copenhagen. He founded PUORI in 2009 with a single obsession: creating the cleanest third-party tested fish oil on the market. That obsession grew into a full supplement line built on batch testing every finished consumer product for environmental toxins, a standard the industry has yet to catch up to. Together, Dave and Oliver expose the hidden contamination crisis inside the supplement industry, from oxidized fish oil that creates inflammation instead of fighting it, to plant-based protein powders carrying up to 10 times more heavy metals than whey. They break down why organic does not mean safe, how glyphosate embeds itself directly into your collagen infrastructure and disrupts the body's ability to build healthy connective tissue, and why the omega 3 index is one of the most powerful and measurable longevity biomarkers you are probably ignoring. They also dig into the surprising brain optimization and anti-aging benefits of creatine, including new research on concussion recovery and sleep deprivation, and how foundational supplements like vitamin D, magnesium, and high-quality fish oil remain the non-negotiables that no nootropic stack can replace. You'll Learn: Why organic protein powder often contains more heavy metals than non-organic options How glyphosate infiltrates collagen and gets rebuilt into your body's own tissue What the omega 3 index is, why most Americans are dangerously low, and how raising it correlates with years of additional longevity Why plant-based omega 3s fail to convert to DHA and what to take instead How oxidized fish oil creates inflammation rather than reducing it, and what to look for on the label Why vitamin D deficiency persists even with regular sun exposure and how genetics affect your required dose The creatine research that has longevity doctors and neuroscientists paying attention for the first time How foundational supplements support mitochondria, metabolism, and long-term resilience in ways that trendy biohacking stacks cannot replicate What to look for in a clean supplement brand and why third-party batch testing of finished goods is the only standard that matters Thank you to our sponsors! Dave Asprey is a four-time New York Times bestselling author, founder of Bulletproof Coffee, and the father of biohacking. With over 1,000 interviews and 1 million monthly listeners, The Human Upgrade brings you the knowledge to take control of your biology, extend your longevity, and optimize every system in your body and mind. As high-protein diets surge in popularity, a Consumer Reports investigation found high levels of lead in some protein powders and shakes, raising questions about supplement safety. The good news: Consumer Reports’ nutrition team says many tasty foods pack a protein punch without the risk of heavy metals. A recent CR investigation that found lead in more than two-thirds of the protein powders tested. In two plant-based powders, lead levels were about 12 to 16 times higher than what experts consider safe for a single day. WRAL's Keely Arthur and Jaylin Jones talk through what you should know before leaning to heavily on protein powders.

Nutrition Nugget! Bite-sized bonus episodes offer tips, tricks and approachable science. This week, Jenn is talking about Dunkin's Protein Drinks. Dunkin' has officially jumped on the protein bandwagon and is rolling out a new line of protein drinks that have everyone asking: Are these actually a good source of protein? Jenn went straight to the source, visiting multiple Dunkin' locations, digging into the nutrition facts PDF, and asking the questions most of us never think to ask. What she found might surprise you. On the one hand, Dunkin' uses a real, recognizable dairy-based milk with a clean ingredient list and no added sweeteners or emulsifiers. On the other hand, the protein count may not be quite what the marketing suggests. Jenn also addresses the ingredients that go into your cup beyond that protein milk so that you can decide for yourself if this is a smart, satisfying option or just another trend wrapped in clever branding. Most people focus on how much protein they eat, but Oliver Amdrup-Chamby, founder of health and wellness supplement brand Puori, argues the bigger question is whether your protein source is potent enough to support muscle as you age, and clean enough to use daily. He explains why leucine matters for muscle protein synthesis, and why plant and animal proteins can look very different once you factor in calories, volume, and digestibility. Then the conversation turns practical: what “third-party tested” should actually mean, why powders can concentrate contaminants, how to see through BS marketing, how to avoid toxins and more. Once Upon a Farm is officially public — and it could mark a turning point for better-for-you brands. In this episode, the hosts break down the baby food company's $198 million IPO, what its $724 million valuation signals for the CPG landscape, and why going public may be emerging as a viable alternative to traditional acquisition. Is this the start of a new era for mission-driven food brands looking to scale on their own terms? Plus, they dig into the growing battle over how "healthy" gets defined at retail. Kroger adopted FoodHealth's nutrient scoring system, which aims to guide shoppers with a balanced approach to nutrient density and ingredient quality. Meanwhile, the Non-GMO Project's stricter Non-UPF Verified certification draws a hard line against processed oils, gums, and natural flavors. Are these systems complementary, competitive, or just confusing? Show notes: 0:23: Fiber Bowl. AMA In MIA. OFRM's IPO. UPF, Maybe Or No? A Burst Of Mayo, Protein & Powder. – The hosts kick things off with lighthearted Super Bowl banter and a recap of their game-day food spreads before previewing the upcoming Taste Radio Miami Meetup at Casa La Rubia on Feb. 18. The team highlights event features including live podcast interviews, networking, brand sampling, and a new "Ask Me Anything" table hosted by Atomos Strategic Marketing, encouraging founders and industry professionals to attend. The conversation then shifts to industry news, notably Once Upon a Farm's IPO, which raised $198 million and valued the baby and kids food brand at over $724 million. The hosts discuss the rarity of successful CPG IPOs, the tradeoffs between going public and selling to a strategic buyer, and what the move could signal for other better-for-you brands. From there, they explore evolving nutrition standards, comparing FoodHealth's nutrient scoring system with the stricter Non-UPF Verified certification from the Non-GMO Project, touching on hot-button topics like processed oils, natural flavors, and consumer education. The episode also features commentary on innovative products such as Graza's olive oil mayonnaise strategy, protein soda from Joyburst, protein-enhanced fruit spreads from BamJam, and the straightforward drink mix brand Fave. Brands in this episode: Royo Bread, Once Upon a Farm, Annie's, Vita Coco, Bai, Graza, Koia, Joyburst, BamJam, Drippy, Dappie, Fave, BTR Nation, Cadence, Spindrift, Duke's
