They are commonly used in various settings, including indoor playgrounds, to help individuals with communication difficulties or cognitive disabilities understand their surroundings and what is expected of them. And if you accommodate children that are under 5 or 6 years old– remember, they can't yet read. So even if they do not have any disabilities, visual signs can help them follow the rules and behave safely in your space and it can help prevent tantrums and meltdowns in all kiddos. This is an interview I have wanted to bring you for a long time. In August 2019 my best friend got the diagnosis every woman fears. Breast cancer. True to her character she handled her diagnosis and treatment with courage and took advocacy over her recovery. I'm happy to report that she is now cancer free and thriving. Many of the things she learned during her journey including some that started years before her diagnosis will shed light on subjects that are not commonly talked about when it comes to breast cancer prevention. Breast Cancer Awareness Month is obviously a good time to have this discussion but as I say every year, awareness is great but prevention is the key. What you'll learn by hearing Tresa's story is inspiring but will also help you when it comes to your own prevention. There are things to look out for and be aware of as well as surprising questions to consider asking your doctor during your yearly mammogram appointment. Tresa also sheds light on certain things your doctor likely doesn't discuss with you about breast cancer prevention including whether or not you should have a breast ultrasound in addition to your yearly mammogram. Change is difficult. When situations change, we enter the unknown. We may fear losing opportunities or making the wrong choice. Today's guest wants us to embrace change and approach it with an open mind. In this way, curiosity, the opposite of dread, can lead us to greater things. When considering a change: Examine your limiting beliefs Learn from others who have gone before you Determine your priorities Ask for help from your support group About Dr. Marion McCrary Dr. Marion McCrary is an experienced primary care internal medicine physician and a national board-certified integrative health and wellness coach. She is passionate about physician wellness and serves as the Well-Being Champion for the NC chapter of the American College of Physicians. Dr. McCrary is also a coach for ACP and AMWA leadership programs. Her newest role is the Associate Director for GME Coaching at her home institution and she is looking forward to guiding residents and fellows in their professional and personal development. She is also a writer and a podcaster. She is one of the co-creators and hosts of the ResetMD podcast where physicians have conversations about what has sustained their well-being. Self-Examination is Part of Making Changes in Your Life In this episode, Dr. McCrary describes how to break away from the daily grind. These aren't decisions to be made on a whim. It takes time to examine limiting beliefs and understand how to move forward. Big changes require big introspection. Self-reflection is necessary to move forward in an informed way. When embraced with a sense of curiosity, transitions are an invaluable time to learn about yourself. You'll see just how much control over your circumstances you really have. It's also great for your confidence to see that you can take risks and turn out okay. Change as a Solution to Burnout One of the instigators of change is burnout. We discuss common causes of burnout. When you say yes to too much or lack the support you need, exhaustion is a natural consequence. Dr. McCrary wants us to fight burnout by instituting whatever control we have. Take control over your thoughts and time. Set boundaries, even when it involves tough conversations. Reflect and take stock of your priorities. Once you know these, you can live according to them. Don't let a day go by without doing what you want with it. Homework for Women Physicians What is a big change are you considering? How can you take stock of your priorities to move forward with it? How many decisions do you make in a day? I bet there are so many, big and small, that it's impossible to answer the question. With so many decisions being made all the time, decision fatigue becomes a real threat. Today, I want to explain how making good decisions is an art. When making important decisions you should: Identify your circumstances Know what is motivating you Accept that your decision is the right one Consider the opposite of your decision Evaluate how realistic your decision is Approaching the Decision-Making Process When faced with a decision to make, the first thing to do is identify the situation. Then, consider your motivation. Knowing why you want to do something means you can move forward with more clarity. At this point, it's normal for you to think of all the reasons why your decision is the wrong one. Don't get stuck in this. This is the time to accept that your decision is the right one. You don't need to justify yourself to anyone. It's okay to consider possible negatives to your decision. This keeps expectations realistic and informed. You can then evaluate just how feasible your decision actually is. The Most Important Considerations Part of decision overwhelm comes when we think of all the things that could go wrong. When approached the right way, this is actually an important part of the process. Understand that the worst-case scenario isn't the most likely scenario. However, if you know you can live with the possibility of things going poorly, you'll know that your decision is still likely the right one. Before moving forward, ask yourself this question: do you really want this? The answer to this will dictate if you move forward or not. Either way, you'll have to own your decision in the end. Even before you put your decision into action, accept responsibility for it. You'll release yourself from the decision-making process and allow yourself to fully live with it. Homework for Women Physicians What big decisions are you faced with? How will you put the decision-making process into action? Leave a comment on the episode page! There doesn't need to be any other explanation.” [10:35] “If we're not willing to go ahead and accept some of the worst-case scenarios, then it might not be the right decision for us.” [17:35] Resources Mentioned Free 5-Day Strength Series for Women Physicians Learn more about accredited coaching with Dr. Amelia Bueche Find Dr. Amelia Bueche Online Follow Dr. Amelia Bueche on Facebook | Instagram | YouTube Check out the full episode page here Find Life Coaching for Women Physicians Online Follow Dr. Ali Novitsky on Facebook | Instagram Subscribe to Life Coaching for Women Physicians on Apple Podcasts Podcast production by the team at Counterweight Creative

If You Want To Add More Joy To Your Life, You Should: Integrate daily movement practices that boost your Dopamine, Oxytocin, Serotonin, and Endorphins Join or create a community that makes you feel included and supported Start viewing joy as a non-negotiable part of every single day When I think about the most important things in my life, the list includes family, friends, health, and joy. But a lot of us can struggle with that last part, especially during times of adversity. The good news is that you can create more joy in your life by making it a priority every single day and coming home to the community around you. Joy Should Be Non-Negotiable with Radha Agrawal My friend Radha Agrawal literally oozes joy. She is the co-founder and CEO of DAYBREAKER, a global community focused on creating joy through movement practices, co-founder of Thinx, and author of Belong: Find Your People, Create Community, And Live A More Connected Life. Radha’s joy-sparking power has earned her global recognition, an opening spot on Oprah’s latest tour, and has brought her her greatest joy in life, her 20-month-old daughter Solei. The 8 Core Pillars of Joy After feeling lost and distracted in her 20’s, Radha decided that she wanted to come home to herself and reprioritize her joy in her life. This realization lead her to identify the 8 core pillars for finding joy in your life and has made a daily commitment to practicing those pillars. Practicing joy, making friends and building community have become a touchstone in her life and she has launched her businesses as a way to help others do the same. Using DOSE To Reverse Engineer Your Happiness Chemicals Radha’s mission is focused on helping others open up their neurochemical pathways through movement practices. These practices don't take much time, but they are a daily investment that is simply non-negotiable. By joining a space where a community can gather and create joy together, you can reverse engineer your happiness chemicals (Dopamine, Oxytocin, Serotonin, and Endorphins) to create functional happiness for yourself and the people around you. By inviting joy into yourself, and then spreading it to those you interact with, you will be able to integrate pleasure stacking into your life and start enjoying more than you ever thought possible. Are you ready to DOSE your life and pleasure stack through joy practices and movement? Share how you are going to cultivate more joy into your life with me in the comments section of the episode page. Quotes: “Sometimes along the way we lose ourselves. And for me, at 30, I had kind of lost myself. And I sort of said to myself, ‘okay, this is the beginning of my path to returning back to joy, returning back to myself, returning home to the deepest sense of belonging and belongingness in me, and then in the humans, I surround myself with, and then all of life's juice will open from there.” (8:14) “It was just such a wild experience, to support 15,000 people in opening up to their 2020 vision. Little did we know that Covid would happen, but in that time, in that experience, in that stadium, it was this joy bubble that I will never forget as long as I live.” (16:26) “How grateful I am at 42, and at 40 years old for my body to have a baby. So to juggle for me is actually a gift, and I really see it as that. So in those moments where I am feeling stressed or feeling overwhelmed with all the responsibilities of being a mom and being a professional, I am constantly reminding myself what a gift it is.” (19:32) “That’s what practicing joy is, it's finding movement practices in moderation that aren't going to crush your body, but that's going to invite something that you want to do every day because it feels good.” (28:42) “The reason why men separated us was because they knew if women were too connected and too supportive of each other, that we would just instantly take over the kind of sex species in terms of who would be leading the planet. And I just think this is really the time for us to hold hands as a community of sisters.” (38:02) In This Episode Learn about the ‘secret sauce’ to the successful community that is DAYBREAKER (11:00) What it was like to navigate new motherhood while on tour with Oprah (13:55) How the DOSE method can help you show up during times of serious adversity (21:58) Ways to incorporate joy and movement practices as part of your daily routine (30:15) The power of community and surrounding yourself with a supportive collective of women (37:40) Resources Mentioned: Free 2 week trial of DOSE membership plus 50% off the first month with code "drmariza" DAYBREAKER Website Follow DAYBREAKER on Instagram Follow Radha on Instagram Other Resources: Check out the full show notes page Keep up with everything Dr. Mariza Follow Dr. Mariza on Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Youtube Podcast production & marketing support by the team at Counterweight Creative
Great leadership begins with great self-awareness. Successful leaders understand their natural preferences and they know how to flex their style to get the most out of any workplace situation. Using a personality-type assessment like the Myers-Briggs (aka 16 Types) assessment is a great way to develop self-awareness and create a better understanding of your own but also other people's natural preferences. In this episode, I share how this tool allows leaders to recognize the differences between themselves and others, how to leverage the diversity on the team, and how to make adjustments in their approach to have better communication, less conflict, and a healthier work dynamic on their team. -- RESOURCES MENTIONED -- Free 16 Types assessment: https://propelledforward.cloverleaf.me/l/16types Email to inquire about team building sessions using the 16 Types assessment: contact@ramonashaw.com

You wouldn't know it just by looking at Dr. Jaffe today, but he was once convicted and sentenced to 1 year in jail for using, buying and selling hard drugs. After getting out of jail, it was impossible to find anyone who'd accept him for a job.For many in the US, this situation leads people back to crime and in jail again, and so the cycle repeats. But for Dr. Jaffe, he attributes his success to the fact that he had (and has) a strong support system--people who believed in him and saw his value. In this episode, Dr. Jaffe shares his full story from being a drug addict and becoming a convicted felon, to where is is today: an author, TedEx speaker, and nationally recognized expert on mental health, addiction, relationships and shame. We also unpack his perspective on why putting drug users in jail isn't the right approach, why the goal of 100% abstinence for drug and alcohol addiction recovery isn't the right approach either, how we can truly help people stuck in the cycle of addiction, why community is so important, and much more.Adi Jaffe, Ph.D. is a nationally recognized expert on mental health, addiction, relationships and shame. He was a UCLA lecturer in the Psychology department at UCLA for the better part of a decade and was the Executive-Director and Co-Founder of one of the most progressive mental health treatment facilities in the country - until he started IGNTD.Dr. Jaffe, through IGNTD, is changing the way people think about, and deal with mental health issues. As we are now navigating through one of the most challenging moments of running a recruitment business, where should we focus our time, energy and resources for maximum return in both the short and long term? In this episode of the Resilient Recruiter, my special guest Jordan Lawrence reveals the incredibly effective marketing strategies behind the growth of his core business, Payments & Cards Network. He breaks down how to partner with media companies, events organizers and even local governments to dominate your market niche. Of course, we'll also dig into what Jordan's doing right now to pivot his marketing during the coronavirus crisis and ensure his company is well-positioned to catch the rebound. You'll also hear Jordan's valuable insights and perspective on building a success culture in different countries, hiring recruiters, keeping your team motivated and engaged, experimenting with the 4-day workweek, and embracing the “next normal.” Jordan founded the Payments & Cards Network around 10 years ago and the business has since evolved into a Micro Niche Recruitment group called PCN Capital which is comprised of Payments & Cards Network, Digital Source, Sekura Capital and PCM (Payments & Cards Media). The three recruitment brands focus on the FinTech Space, Data Science & Cyber Security respectively and operate from offices in Atlanta, Amsterdam & Singapore. Episode Outline and Highlights [3:00] How the business is dealing with the coronavirus. [5:55] An important key to keep your team motivated and engaged in these difficult circumstances. [8:20] Discussion on two areas of adjustments to “up their game”. [10:15] How to reassure hesitant candidates during the coronavirus crisis - Warning: This is not a recruitment spiel. [13:10] Jordan's philosophy on building a community with media businesses. [19:30] A very interesting discussion [+pointers] on how to keep a LinkedIn group relevant. [23:20] Will switching to a four-day workweek work for your business? [29:05] Jordan discusses the “new normal” for recruiting businesses. [32:45] Hear about Jordan's “How to Hire Remotely with Confidence” webinar. [36:00] Benefits of having multinational offices versus having just one head office. [39:20] What led to Jordan's partnership with a local government Building a Community via the Media Businesses Jordan shared why and how he built a community through media and marketing and how it impacted his business. Dive into Jordan's brilliant ideas on how to make marketing work for his business. For example, hear how using magazines in both physical and digital format helped his recruitment business grow exponentially. The Philosophy Behind a Four-Day Workweek Will a four-day workweek fly in the recruitment industry? Hear Jordan's perspective on how it can be a huge benefit. One way he puts it is “People before would sort of work really hard over the five days, binge on a Saturday… belly recovering on a Sunday, and stumbling to work on a Monday morning, it may not be so productive.” He added “Arguably, is there much getting done anyway on a Monday morning and a Friday afternoon? I don't know. Now we are giving the opportunity to have a really good rest..” Adding Value to the Ecosystem of the Niche that You are Serving Having a multinational firm, Jordan's success is defined by his mindset on adding value. In his words, “I think it is making yourself a part of the fabric of the industry you are trying to service rather than being seen as someone only taking and I think that's really important.” On having a global presence, this is what he said: “If you are serious about growing globally in a niche market, you have to be on the ground and you have to have facetime. It shows you're there for the long haul rather than just making the sort of hit and run deal which you do see all over the place.” He also discussed their support for the "Free a Girl" foundation which frees young girls from sexual slavery. What we're talking about in this episode The role personal responsibility plays in the self-care you do every day Tips to build daily healthy exercise and diet habits at home in 30 days How to use ‘flawsome’ and give yourself the grace to be less than perfect Ways to tune into your body and use resistance as your greatest teacher Doing a little something instead of all or nothing to find greater success Episode Summary The all or nothing mentality that so many of us have towards life and fitness is not healthy. This mentality is something that Bree Argetsinger, or The Betty Rocker, gave up subscribing to years ago. After living her life striving to look like the models she saw in magazines, she had an awakening when she started to feed her body with natural foods instead of fake ones and put self-growth over appearance. Since the creation of The Betty Rocker over 2 million people have participated in The Betty Rocker Make Your Fat Cry Bootcamp, which has completely transformed countless peoples, including yours truly, mindset towards wanting to be strong and nourished. A refreshing take on fitness embodying grace and ease, Bree is here to inspire you to take action and start respecting your body enough to take care of it. If you are striving to take that crazy pressure of needing to be perfect away but feel like you cant, want to increase your movement and longevity, and change your fitness habits for the better, Bree’s message of self-care and self-love is the breath of fresh air you have been looking for. The piece you often don’t know you need is the mental piece, and the real secret to consistency is to do a little something. Are you ready to stop blocking your own goals and start doing the work for the things that matter to you? Share what inspired you most about Bree’s uplifting perspective in the comments on the episode page! Quotes “You know you are up so close to things but you still think you can cheat the system. You think well ‘I see the way these models look and I’m going to do what they’re doing because they look happy, they look beautiful, they're getting the validation’. And I was sold on a system that doesn't really exist. It's fake.” (9:33) “When you start to think about your body as your friends, and all of these amazing cells in your body, all of them are dedicated to the purpose of you every single day. You start to just recognize your own responsibility in loving and caring for this amazing body that you have.” (14:55) “I really think that the things that make us ‘ugly’, whatever our greatest wounds are, they are also our greatest gifts, they are the things that make us unique, and they are also the things that make you special.” (21:04) “We take the knowledge that we have and filter it through our own personal filter and thinking system, and we want to deliver it in a way that really meets someone where they are at at this moment, and create space for them to expand within it.” (31:54) “No matter where we are, we are shaped by the things that have come before us. And some of those things are negative, and some of those things are positive, but using the sort of method that I just described, you can take the best things from all of which you have been given, all of which you have experienced, and you are the creator of your own life.” (39:12) Resources Mentioned Free 30-Day Make Fat Cry Challenge The Betty Rocker Website The Betty Rocker Blog Follow The Betty Rocker on Instagram EY 100: Dr. Mariza Other Resources: The Essential Oils Hormone Solution by Dr. Mariza Check out the full show notes page Keep up with everything Dr. Mariza Follow Dr. Mariza on Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Youtube
