This interview is part of a series of interviews that were recorded live from the floor of Josef Schachter's Catch The Energy conference in Alberta on October 19th.    Robert Logan, President and CEO, Tony Kraljic, CFO, and Robert Loebach, VP Corporate Development and Capital Markets all sat down with me at the conference to provide an overview of Greenfire Resources (TSX:GFR - NYSE:GFR).    The team discusses Greenfire's recent public listing, positioning as an intermediate growth-oriented oil sands producer, and detailed plans for expanding production capacity. They explain the Company's capital management strategy, financial constraints with the current debt, and how they plan to efficiently utilize capital for expansion. Additionally, the executives highlight the significant reserves Greenfire holds, the Company's competitive advantages, and the management team's role in driving growth. They also outline key future milestones and anticipated timelines for achieving these targets.   If you have any follow up questions for the team or would like more information on any aspect of the Company please email me at Fleck@kereport.com.   Click here to visit the Greenfire Resources website.

Flying out the gate like the Ultimate Warrior, today we gots 7 more 70's movie reviews, and here…they…are!
first up is (The Yakuza 1974) With Robert Mitchum (I'm just starting the whole chapter about him in Roger Eberts book- Life Itself) Ken Takakura, The best friend of Logan in Logan's Run, The Dad who hired Mr. French in Family Affair, and Stanley from the Golden Girls are all here with Mitchum in this. Is this Movie good, we like Director Sydney Pollack, and Writer Paul Schrader, but can they pull it off? Let's see, shall we.
Next up is (Adventures of the wilderness family 1975). We are continuing our odd ass journey of Robert Logan's nature/adventure films. This is the one with 2 sequels, kind of afraid of them, oh my, this is silly enough.
Onward to (Bullet Train 1975). Ashes liked this one best for it's rad historical context. Also important to watch as stupid Americans, to learn that SPEED totally ripped this one off. Filmed entirely on location on the bullet train between Tokyo and Hiroshima, also Ken Takakura is back here. More of Ken to come.
Travel with us now to skull island and (King Kong 1976) It's got issues and it kinda sucks, but also with that, there's a lot of cool people here, bein weird, especially Jeff Bridges. Directed by John Guillermin after he made a ton of money for the studio people when we made (The Towering inferno) in 74 so they threw a ton o dough at this thing here, Wait John directed Shaft in Africa, heck yeah!
Moving on we gots (Slap Shot 1977)
George Roy Hill is our director here, with one of my favorite screenwriters Nancy Dowd, who if someone could just chuck some dough at us and this pod I would love to interview, while she is still around to interviewed plz, to all you rich benefactors out there. Is something wrong with me that I think the Hanson Brothers are simply adorable.
Next today we review (Every which way but loose 1978)That punching movie with the Orangutan Clyde, also Maude's shotgun scene is priceless. Gee it's also kind of an anti Fascist picture, not as fiercely anti fascist as the blues brothers, but I think it still counts, there is much nazi punching. Hey our direct here James Fargo made the 80's cult masterpiece Voyage of the rock aliens in 84, can't for the Vintage video 80's podcast to cover that one, also VVP stay out of our lane eh.
finally today we review yet another made for TV 70's movie that snuck some greatness under the radar (See how she runs 1978) Joanne Woodward plays a teacher who just wants to run in the Boston Marathon but oddly has to battle the world and even her family just to do so!
Drop us a review and all the dang stars if you like what you hear, and thank you muchly for listening.

A decade under the influence

Play Episode Listen Later May 25, 2024 83:32

Seven more movie reviews, let's go! Gee this is simply not the best batch. I said it.
Today we start with (The Feminist and the Fuzz 1971) Barbara Eden stars with the good Morning America guy in this wacky film with some serious ideas that they bring into America's living room, giving us the representation, and radical crumb many were literally dying for, but you just, as always knew they were gonna mainstream a few steps back at the end, the price that you knew you were gonna pay. I remember that made for TV movie, the day my kid went punk, that came out just as me and three other 16 year olds started the first ever punk band in our suburban catholic town, boy was that film a let down. I'd personally say that it's worth a watch. It's on you tube, watch it then pop back and listen hmmmmmmm, maybe.
Next is (Elvis on tour 1972). It looks and sounds cool. There is just a lot of Elvis music here, and I could use more interviews. Also I'm sure that the filmmakers must of felt quite bound and gagged about really reporting what the saw and heard, at least in my head cannon it seems that way. The famous rock story of Elvis getting denied his prescription at a pharmacy on the road because a sympathetic pharmacist saw the massive addiction of Elvis to pills, and Elvis's manager simply buying the pharmacy, is NOT here, how could it be. But I am sure it was all seen. Even with the puff piece attitude of this publicity thing you can see it pretty dang well.
Next today we move on to (Snoopy come home 1972) This is the first of the trilogy of Charlie Brown feature films that were going to be covering for the pod, and the second in the film series after 1969's A boy named Charlie Brown. Look this is great and our discussion is fabulous I'm sure, I've seen this movie several times in my life SO it's more than ok that I fell asleep this time. Those other two lovelies can pick up my slack. There's dog and bird discrimination for Snoopy and Woodstock as they travel to visit a sick friend.
Next is (Charlie Varrick 1973) and Garak from deep space 9 is here. Garak plays Harman Sullivan, a hot head bank robber who like Veruka Salt, wants it all now. We also gots Joe don Baker, Felicia Farr, and the coach of the bad news bears himself Walter Matthau. Lots of great characters here to including the dean from Animal House, in this gritty great stock 70's movie where, uh oh the bank robbers ripped off the mob. Whatever will they do? Let's talk talk talk about it shall we.
Onward to (3 days of the Condor) Nows here's a popular 70's political thriller that your decade under the influence would love to time machine change a bit of. I love Robert Redford, he's cute, thoughtful and chooses rad projects, even now. See (The company you keep 2012) where he plays a former Weather Underground activist. But here in Condor he makes this icky decision to not just hand the amazing force of Faye Dunaway the dang gun after they get to her pad. Just pisses me off ok. Great directing and cinematography here. Would you like to know more.
(The Hindenburg 1975) is up to bat now and let's just say that for me….George C Scott does NOT George C Scott enough, and the super cool Anne Bancroft is very under used, watch Turning point and Garbo speaks to compensate. The dick from Real Genius and Ghostbusters is good here, and I don't hate this, wait, the amazing director Robert Wise is also under represented here. ACK,,,,,,,, moving on finally to wrap this poop up with (Across the great divide 1976) Hey this is the one with the 2 kids, I dig this one. We reviewed the Sea Gypsies with Robert Logan a bit ago, and I was very surprised that he was in about 6 nature movies in the 70's. What is going on world. This one is waaaaay better than what's to come in my opinion.
Ok I'm done, thank you very much for listening, please subscribe and give us some stars, and mayhems a sweet or not sweet review, it super helps, thanks.

“Ecology does not seek connections, but patterns” -Marshall McLuhan “There is no simple linear cause and effect relationship in the emergence of an emergent system as the components that make up the emergent system exert an upward effect on the composite system (the parts creating the whole), and vice versa the composite system exerts downward effects on its components, which form constraints on the behaviour of those components. The interactions of the components that lead to the self-organization of the emergent system are non-linear because of that upward and downward causation. The lateral non-linear causation of the components of the system among themselves actually creates the emergent system. The emergent system then in turn acts downward on those components of which it is composed.” -Robert Logan, 2017 "Technological change is neither additive nor subtractive. It is ecological. I mean ‘ecological' in the same sense as the word is used by environmental scientists. One significant change generates total change. If you remove the caterpillars from a given habitat, you are not left with the same environment minus caterpillars: you have a new environment, and you have reconstituted the conditions of survival; the same is true if you add caterpillars to an environment that has had none. This is how the ecology of media works as well. **A new technology does not add or subtract something. it changes everything.** In the year 1500, fifty years after the printing press was invented, we did not have the old Europe plus the printing press. We had a different Europe. After television, the United States was not America plus television; television gave a new coloration to every political campaign, to every home, to every school, to every church, to every industry.” -Neil Postman, 1992 “...there is a spiritual dimension to formal causality, as there is to all acts of creation. But for those who prefer a more scientific outlook, let me simply note that formal cause corresponds to the systems view of Gregory Bateson, to the dissipative structures of physicist Ilya Prigogine, to the fractal geometry of Benoit Mandelbrot and the metapatterns of Tyler Volk, to the autopoietic systems of biologists Humberto Maturana and Francisco Varela, and in general to the systems concept of emergence.” -Eric McLuhan, 2011 “From the very beginning of Western philosophy and science, there has been a tension between mechanism and holism, between the study of matter (or substance, structure, quantity) and the study of form (or pattern, order, quality). The study of matter was championed by Democritus, Galileo, Descartes, and Newton; the study of form by Pythagoras, Aristotle, Kant, and Goethe. Leonardo followed the tradition of Pythagoras and Aristotle, and he combined it with his rigorous empirical method to formulate a science of living forms, their patterns of organization, and their processes of growth and transformation. He was deeply aware of the fundamental interconnectedness of all phenomena and of the interdependence and mutual generation of all parts of an organic whole.” Fritjof Capra, 2008 “[McLuhan's formal causality and tetrad] enhances media ecology, obsolesces content analysis, retrieves Einstein's four-dimensional space time continuum and flips into the reversal of cause and effect.” -Lance Strate, 2017 Sources: https://old.reddit.com/r/DilettanteryPodcast/comments/s437w4/130_formal_cause_part_2_chairs_memes_graham/?

Hush Hush Society Conspiracy Hour

The trio of hush are back with episode two of The Hush Hush Society Conspiracy Hour with more mind bending mysteries as they drop into MK-ULTRA! A now declassied program known as the 'CIA Mind Control Program' were a series of mostly illegal and inhumane experiments. Using mind altering drugs/chemicals (LSD) on mostly unsuspecting patients, colleagues even led to one of the Army's own scientists 'jumping' to his death in 1953 in a NYC hotel! Sleep deprivation, massive electric shocks, verbal/physical torture, psychic driving, and hypnosis! The program began in the infancy of the Cold War to create a 'robot soldier or spy' so Americans would have their minds wiped clean or the Soviets that were captured would give up their secrets! (6:57) Steven Kinzner an American author claims that MK-ULTRA "was a continuation of the work begun in WWII-era Japanese facilities and Nazi concentration camps on subduing and controlling human minds" (7:42) Dave talks about the strange incident on August 15, 1951 where the entire town of Pont- Saint- Esprit, A small town in southern France that was 'poisoned' (9:38) Project Bluebird and Project Artichoke are mentioned (12:04) Dave goes into the operation held in San Francisco called, Operation Midnight Climax. (14:00) Mike talks about Sidney Gottlieb, an American chemist (15:05) Dave delves into the methods used in the program (18:20) Mike & Dave fill us in about a Canadian, Robert Logan who had undergone some of these experiments (26:05) The trio touch the actions that happened directly after WWII and Nazi scientists (28:23) Oct 4, 1995 - President Bill Clinton apologized to the families about the MK-ULTRA Program. (29:40) Frank Olson, an American Army scientist that worked for the United States Army Biological Warfare Laboratories (USBWL) at Camp Detrick (now Fort Detrick). After being dosed with LSD, nine days later on November 28th 1953 he 'jumped' to his death. (33:20) In 1973 CIA Director Richard Helms ordered the MK-ULTRA documents destroyed. (39:00) Stansfield Turner was appointed to write the 15 page report by Jimmy Carter which is now declassified and available to the public. Easily found on Wikipedia. This week's Morning Meeting is with SDFD Battalion Chief Robert Logan. Chief Logan shares his advice on how putting yourself in uncomfortable positions can have incredible influence on how you grow and succeed. He tells the story of how he wound up on the board of the San Diego Firefighters Federal Credit Union just by taking action and trying to improve. He now sits in the same room with some very high level financial minds and has been soaking up every ounce of advice he can. What advice do they give him: be patient and let the market do what the market does. Time IN the market is more important than TIMING the market ⏱ Chief Logan was also quick to point out just how involved the Credit Union is in supporting us in the community. Everything from the 911 Stair Climb, The Sports Club picnic, Mobile Santa and tons more, they are here for us. Go to www.sdffcu.org/community-events to see all the ways they're giving back. On this week's The Sci-Files, your co-hosts Chelsie and Daniel interview Robert Logan about his research on deserts, here at the Michigan State University W. K. Kellogg Biological Station. Robert is a Ph.D. Candidate in the Department of Integrative Biology/Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, and Behavior Program.Climate models predict that deserts are likely to get hotter and drier in the coming decades which will most likely have big effects on the people and other organisms that live in these already resource-scarce areas. When plants and animals die, they start to decompose, so through gaining a better understanding of how desert ecosystems work, will help us develop better strategies to deal with the challenges in arid lands. In order to gain more understanding, Robert is studying microorganisms that live in one of the driest places on the planet. This research will help scientists understand how they change their environment and how it impacts our lives. If you're interested in talking about your MSU research on the radio or nominating a student, please email Chelsie and Danny at scifiles@impact89fm.org.
