Today we're diving into a conversation about one of the most important shifts happening in business right now. Did you know the fastest-growing segment of entrepreneurship and business ownership is actually women? And at the forefront of that movement is today's guest, a true powerhouse whose story is as inspiring as it is game-changing. Our guest is Suneera Madhani — a visionary entrepreneur, FinTech innovator, and champion for women in business. Suneera is the trailblazing founder of Worth, a revolutionary platform that uses patent-pending AI technology to help small businesses gain fair access to capital. It's a bold, brilliant idea that's leveling the playing field for entrepreneurs everywhere. But her story didn't start at the top. Before founding Worth, Suneera built Stax Payments from the ground up, transforming a simple idea into a multibillion-dollar company with over $140 million in recurring revenue. Along the way, she made history as one of the first female CEOs to build a unicorn — a rare feat in the male-dominated world of FinTech. Her journey is one of resilience, grit, and relentless ambition. From selling credit card machines out of the trunk of a Volkswagen Beetle to being laughed out of boardrooms, she's faced every challenge head-on and proved the doubters wrong time and again. Today, she's not only a successful entrepreneur but also an angel investor, advisor to more than a dozen boards, and a sought-after speaker who's shared her wisdom on some of the world's biggest stages — from Meta and Harvard Business School to South by Southwest and beyond. In this episode, we'll unpack Suneera's incredible rise, her mission to shatter ceilings for women in business, and the lessons she's learned while bootstrapping billion-dollar ventures, navigating biases in leadership, and balancing the demands of entrepreneurship with family life. It's a masterclass in leadership, resilience, and what it takes to redefine an entire industry — and you're going to want to hear every word.   Episode Highlights: 00:22:00 Who is Suneera Madhani? 02:30:00 Suneera Madhani's Early Entrepreneurial Journey 05:08:00 The Game-Changing Idea and Rejection 08:22:00 Building a Billion-Dollar Company 14:10:00 Key Components of a Billion-Dollar Business 18:40:00 The Importance of Team and Culture 21:13:00 Building a Winning Team 22:09:00 The Importance of Networking 22:30:00 Hiring Strategies and Challenges 25:41:00 Reflecting on the Journey 31:39:00 Challenges for Women Entrepreneurs 38:50:00 Conclusion and Final Thoughts   Contact Info: Website: https://suneeramadhani.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/suneeramadhani/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/suneeramadhani/   Subscribe to the Podcast:

Oceans of faith: facing fears and finding God among coral reefs | with Rachel Jordan

For marine biologist, writer, and lay theologian Rachel Jordan, the ocean has never just been a backdrop—it's been a living metaphor for her relationship with God. Raised in a Christian household, Rachel's wonder at tide pools and the mysteries of the deep developed alongside her budding faith. She explains how the intrigue of peering into tiny, brimming tide pools mirrored her fascination with glimpses of God's character: “There was something vast and impressive that laid beyond, that I wanted to explore.” Just as the tide pools hinted at whole worlds awaiting discovery, Rachel found that both faith and science propelled her deeper: “Being a Christian has propelled me further into a desire to understand science ... and being a scientist has, I believe, made me a better Christian.” Rachel may study the ocean's wonders, but her path has been anything but fearless. “I've had this recurring nightmare ... of getting eaten by sharks ... I was just terrified of it,” she confesses. And yet, her marine biology career meant close encounters with those notorious creatures were not just possible, but sometimes necessary. What's remarkable is how God met her in those moments of dread—not by removing the fear, but by transforming it. As she recounts, “The beauty is that God took this thing that I was afraid of and converted it to open-mouthed wonder.” Rachel's transparency normalizes fear as a companion to growth, whether learning to dive or facing daunting new callings. Her encouragement? “It's okay to feel [fear]; it might be something that God uses in your story to do something really big and to show you more of who he is.” Lessons of Grief and Hope from the Coral Reefs Perhaps nowhere does Rachel blend her scientific vocation and spiritual conviction more poignantly than in her stewardship of endangered corals. She describes the “magic castles” of Dry Tortugas National Park—towering, endangered pillar corals—where she devoted herself to preservation efforts. Witnessing the corals' decline from disease was, for Rachel and her fellow scientists, “tragic and deeply impactful.” Yet, as a follower of Christ, Rachel finds hope in the heartbreak. Not only does she grieve in community, but she sees loss through the lens of biblical resurrection. She connects the “white skeleton bony structures” of dead corals to Ezekiel's vision of dry bones: if God can bring those bones to life, can't he also restore coral reefs one day? For Rachel, loss becomes an invitation to hope: “All of creation is eventually going to be restored, remade ... I just wonder what he's going to do next.” Divine Lessons from Buddy Dives and Seahorses Diving, for all its wonder, is fraught with risk, which is why marine biologists always practice “buddy diving”—entrusting their lives to a partner in the depths. For Rachel, this is a living parable: “God is our ultimate dive buddy ... he's not only capable of rescuing us in danger, but he promises to never leave or forsake us.” Other creatures—even a seahorse named Mr. Snuggles—have revealed to her the joy of relationship, not just provision. “I want to, like Mr. Snuggles, draw close to him and just sort of curl up with him and hang out together.” Scripture: A Dive Site Brimming with Life What better metaphor for the Bible, Rachel muses, than a vibrant dive site—unchanging in position but always full of surprise, beauty, and life? “When I read God's word ... there's always something new to discover.” It's a place to keep returning with fresh awe and an explorer's heart. The Deep Calls to Deep Whether or not you'll ever strap on a snorkel, Rachel's conversation is an invitation: to see the world as shot through with the beauty and presence of its Maker, to find him not only in safe harbor but also in the open, sometimes scary waters of life, and to trust that every loss and fear can be met—and even redeemed—by the God who made oceans and corals... and calls each of us out into the deep. MEET RACHEL JORDAN Rachel G. Jordan is a professional marine biologist and lay theologian. A self-professed Jesus-loving coral nerd, she was raised in Idaho and has since traveled the globe chasing her passion for faith and science. She has an MS in marine biology and ecology from James Cook University (Australia), a BS in ecology from Seattle Pacific University (USA), and a certification in biblical studies from Bodenseehof Bible School (Germany). In addition to working as a coral biologist for the US National Park Service, Rachel has worked in marine aquaculture research, organic chemistry laboratories, veterinary research facilities, the pet industry, and a museum. When not diving or writing, she can be found reading C.S. Lewis, growing wildflowers, and exploring creation with her husband. More at https://rachelgjordan.com/  MORE ABOUT “IF THE OCEAN HAS A SOUL” The ocean is filled with scientific discoveries―and God's presence. For marine biologist Rachel Jordan, both science and Scripture are means of knowing creation and Creator. In If the Ocean Has a Soul, Rachel considers the natural world through a spiritual lens, meshing marine biology with biblical truths in a keen and current take on faith and science. With engaging storytelling and deep knowledge of the Bible, she asks and answers questions like: How can Christians reconcile religion and science when the two seem opposed? What do suffering and death teach us about the character of Jesus? How do we care for the environment when there seems to be little hope for repair? What do the ocean and its sea creatures, specifically, reveal about God? In these pages, Rachel recounts fascinating aquatic phenomena alongside the sometimes humorous, sometimes tragic stories of animals she has known. You'll lose yourself in the shadows of an underwater labyrinth; hear spiritual wisdom from a great-grandmother coral the size of a Volkswagen Beetle; and fall in love with Porky, the pudgy porcupinefish greeting visitors at the Windjammer shipwreck. And along the way, you'll see how the promise of restoration unfolds in both physical and spiritual ways. Rachel's thoughtful scientific and theological insights encourage us to know the Creator of the sea and everything in it. What is your earliest memory? That is what Lizz and Kelly are talking about today on The Carpool. For Lizz, it's her and Kelly playing with their imaginary friends who also happened to be big brothers. You always want the sibling combo you don't have. Kelly's earliest memories are of preschool and the spot to be was the peanut-free table. She perpetually had a peanut butter sandwich and was persona non-grata with the cool kids. Does she still harbor a bit of resentment? Don't even ask about the apples...  Kelly is headed off on a family vacation with a Hummer and it got her thinking about cars that no longer exist that definitely should. The internet seems to be ravenous for a Ford Excursion. Kelly and Lizz's big prediction? We could be seeing a new Volkswagen Beetle hitting the market again! Slug bug!  While Kelly is enjoying a vacation, Lizz will be back home working on sleep training Sloan. This leads to a discussion on the pressures of parenting thanks to social media. There are so many opinions coming from us at every angle, how do you decide what is right for you? It's time for a return of mother's intuition!  What were the lessons your parents taught you as a kid? Kelly has two stories her father told her that she refers to daily. This is how she learned to not be afraid to ask questions and that just because something is always done one way doesn't mean it needs to always be done that way.  Before they leave, Lizz has a new random fact of left handed vs. right handed vs. ambidextrous. Kelly has a random fact on vertigo... Well, more like the fact that she has vertigo.  Today's episode is brought to you by Clean Simple Eats. We're advocating that every American should have the opportunity to live, work and play in a beautiful place."   "When everybody has this opportunity, we can get this done. And we do tend to have a very bipartisan organization because honestly, at the end of the day, who wouldn't be in favor of a beautiful America to live, work and play?" - On finding common ground across political divides.   "We want to make sure that every solution we come up with is context sensitive... It makes sense to have billboards in Times Square, just like it makes sense to have none of those things in a national park." - On their nuanced approach to development.   Last week's conversation featured Teresa Tyson of The Health Wagon, who shared how her organization brings vital healthcare to Central Appalachia through mobile medical units. We are not going back.  But how do we go forward now in a world where the old norms are under assault by people who move fast and break everything? How do we find a place of balance and compassion - for ourselves, each other and the More than Human world - so that we can move forward in a way that isn't just a replaying of the old binaries? Our world changed irrevocably with the results of the US election on the 5th of November.  On this podcast, we talk a lot about total systemic change and now that change is happening in front of our eyes.   Clearly, there is no going back from here.  So how do we who care deeply about a flourishing future - who wish there to be a survival of complex life in all its amazing creativity - navigate this new landscape? How do we embrace the polarities and dichotomies of an unpredictable world so that we can embrace the infinite complexity - and unknowability - of the future? This week's guest is someone who has devoted her life to exploring the paradox at the heart of our existence. I first met Andrea Hiott through her 'Love and Philosophy' podcast which has become part of my essential listening list.  From the outset, Andrea struck me as someone whose way of viewing life is, if not unique, then definitely exceptional and well worth exploring. As you'll hear, she is someone who throws herself into learning: she can talk with authority on everything from philosophy and phenomenology to neuroscience and ecology and  as we speak, she's completing her doctorate, which is called Ecological Orientation.  She's an author of various books, including Thinking Small, The long, strange trip of the Volkswagen Beetle, and has long worked on issues of motoring and mobility as a consultant, writer, and ghostwriter.  She has appeared in films and TV shows, such as The Bug and Cars that Changed the World.  She's been on a whole variety of other podcasts, and has worked extensively for museums, artists, collectors, and agencies. She is also developing the philosophical framework of Waymaking and the practice of Navigability and I have never in my life spoken with someone who has evolved their own philosophy to the extent that they can talk about it in depth and in detail and make so much sense.  There's a YouTube where Andrea does exactly this - I've put a link in the show notes. On top of all this, she is founder of the private educational consulting platform, Making Ways and pours her energy into collaborating with other thinkers and creators at the intersection of multiple different philosophical, cognitive and ecological landscapes, so that she can create a deeper, more emergent understanding of the world we live in. We booked this conversation over six months ago and we were not particularly hinging it around the US election.  But we recorded this one week to the day after the vote that has so completely changed our world so it would have been impossible not to reflect on this. Andrea is a US citizen, currently living in Europe, so she has a particular set of perspectives - and a capacity to see beyond the polarities that feels particularly useful now.   I felt a lot calmer after this conversation than I did going into it and that wasn't all about the pony with colic that put our recording back by a day.  So in the hope that this helps you, too, to deepen into this moment of absolute change, https://www.andreahiott.net/https://making-ways.ck.page/profilehttps://www.youtube.com/@waymaking23https://www.youtube.com/@DesirableUnknownhttps://www.facebook.com/TheBugMovieThinking Small Book

A Mexico City neighborhood keeps the iconic Volkswagen Beetle alive

Janette Navarro's 1996 Volkswagen Beetle roars as it barrels up a steep hill overlooking concrete houses stacked like boxes on the outskirts of Mexico City. She presses her foot on the pedal, passes a lime green Beetle like hers, then one marked with red and yellow, then another painted a bright sea blue. “No other car gets up here,” she said. “Just the vocho.” The Volkswagen Beetle, or “vocho” as it's known in Mexico, may have been born in Germany, but in this hilly neighborhood on the fringes of Mexico City, there's no doubt about it: The “Bug” is king. The Beetle has a long history in the country's sprawling capital. The old-school models like these—once driven as taxis—used to dot city blocks as the quirky look captured the fascination of many around the world. It was long known as “the people's car.” But after production of older models halted in Mexico in 2003, and the newer versions in 2019, the Bug population is dwindling in the metro area of 23 million people. But in the northern neighborhood of Cuautepec, classic Beetles still line the streets—so much so that the area has been nicknamed “Vocholandia.” Taxi drivers like Navarro say they continue to use the “vochos” because the cars are inexpensive and the engine located in the back of the vehicle gives it more power to climb the neighborhood's steep hills. While some of the older cars wobble along, paint long faded after years of wear and tear, other drivers dress their cars up, keeping them in top shape. Mechanics in the area, though, say driving “vochos” is a dying tradition. David Enojosa, a car mechanic, said his family's small car shop in the city used to sell parts and do maintenance primarily on Beetles. But since Volkswagen halted production five years ago, parts have been harder to come by. “With the current trend, it will disappear in two or three years,” Enojosa said, his hands blackened by car grease. “Before we had too many parts for “vochos,” now there aren't enough … So they have to look for parts in repair shops or junkyards.” This article was provided by The Associated Press.

Since this king is very controversial, the security guards want to guard the king against attempted assassination. The king would want to ride in a vehicle befitting his office and position. How would it look for a king to ride into town in a Volkswagen Beetle? That would not be very dignified for the king of a nation. The car could be a new bulletproof Cadillac SUV or Mercedes SUV. His words and actions threatened their power, greed, and selfish agenda. Because there were religious leaders who wanted to do away with Jesus, He was in danger. He had just raised Lazarus from the dead, and many people followed Him.  There were several occasions when the crowd wanted to make Jesus their militant king, but Jesus would slip away because He didn't come to be that type of King. In our latest episode, we delve deep into the life and business journey of real estate mogul, Scot Ulmer. Based in Jacksonville, Florida, Scot is the brains behind "Little Pink Houses of America", an innovative real estate company that's taking the industry by storm. Scot's initiation into the business world began at an impressively young age. At just 14, he displayed an entrepreneurial flair when he revamped and sold a dilapidated Volkswagen Beetle. This experience acted as a stepping stone for Scot, as he then utilized the proceeds from the car to invest in his very first house - a fixer-upper bought from a tax sale. This initial investment sparked his passion for real estate, propelling him into a career where he has now accumulated over two decades of expertise. Hailing from just outside of Tampa, Scot's humble beginnings are marked by financial constraints but rich in life's invaluable lessons. His early struggles formed the foundation of his resilience, teaching him to cherish life's simple pleasures. Education played a pivotal role in shaping Scot's future. After a brief stint as a quarterback at Bowling Green State University, Ohio, he shifted his focus towards business and pursued a degree in Business Finance and Communications from Ohio University. His exceptional skills and contributions in the business sector didn't go unnoticed; at just 26, Scot received the esteemed 20 Under 40 Award. Aside from his business pursuits, Scot's philanthropic efforts deserve a spotlight. He co-founded “Aspiring Minds of Toledo”, a nonprofit aiming to unite young professionals for diverse commercial and community-driven initiatives. Furthermore, Scot's company, Little Pink Houses of America, generously donates to 'Little Pink Houses of Hope' with every house sale, providing families battling breast cancer with all-inclusive vacations during their treatments. Family stands at the heart of Scot's journey. Grateful for the unwavering support of his wife and three children, he aspires to share his life stories, hoping they inspire many. Join us as we unpack the riveting journey of a man whose life and work are a testament to perseverance, hard work, and the power of giving back.
