“I’m very proud that I have managed to, in less than a year, do four half marathons. It’s not something I ever could have dreamed of doing. And I’m just proud I have really stuck it out. Because it’s hard. It’s not easy to try to work yourself back from a poor health standard, or to bring yourself out of that mental hole that people can fall into. I’m very proud that I have stood up and said, ‘I need help, and I need to make a change.’ That’s a huge step for anybody to take. The fact that I’ve taken that step and I keep moving forward… That means a lot to me.” Welcome to the final episode of the newest series on the Ali on the Run Show: The Everyday Runner. For the past four weeks, we’ve been hearing from runners who are just like you and me. Not professional athletes — these runners have jobs, families, and responsibilities beyond this sport we all love so much. Today, we wrap things up with Melissa Cummings, a runner — or “walker with purpose,” as she likes to say — from Manchester, NH. On this episode, Melissa shares the story of wanting to take back control of her life, and how she found running, racing, and a welcoming running club along the way. She talks about that title, “runner,” and shares her thoughts on whether or not she — as a four-time half-marathoner — has embraced it yet. She talks about what it was like joining the Millennium Running Club, and what it was like being named 2020’s Club Member of the Year. And she talks about her experience with depression, and how running has helped. SPONSOR: Picky Bars — Visit pickybars.com/ontherun, where code ONTHERUN gets you 20% off. When you’re done listening make sure to scroll down to the end of the show notes so that you can link to all the resources mentioned on this episode. What brought Melissa to where she is today? Melissa knew she wanted to be an executive assistant from a young age. Her mom was an executive assistant and as a girl, she would always marvel at the way people in the office would rave about her mother's work. So you could say that being an executive assistant is in Melissa’s blood.  After completing secretary school, Melissa was an executive assistant for 15 years. But it wasn’t until life circumstances forced her to move across the country that she pitched the idea of going virtual to her boss. He agreed and after completing her year-long contract with that employer it dawned on her that she could do this for herself and be her own boss. Melissa lept headlong into her new business venture and gained clients immediately.  The biggest challenge of becoming a solopreneur It wasn’t until Melissa had been a solopreneur for several months that she discovered her biggest challenge. She realized that she was working harder than ever and had plenty of clients but somehow she wasn’t making enough money.  Melissa didn’t understand what was wrong with her business model. It dawned on her that she had no idea how to effectively run a business, so she did the smartest thing she could have done. She asked for help.  How Melissa’s business coach helped her grow from an employee to a business owner Even though Melissa was an amazing virtual assistant, she was a terrible business owner. She didn’t understand that she had to reframe her thought process from employee to business owner. She doesn’t consider herself a natural entrepreneur, so it took an amazing business coach to help her understand how to price her services for value so that she could succeed in her business.  Melissa has so much to teach us about hiring the perfect rock star for our bands. Top 5 Little Known Yoga Channels You Need to Follow Winter 2021  In this video my friend Matt Depuis and I are going to share with you some of our favourite heart centered yoga teachers who are sharing their yoga on YouTube that you may not have come across because they are “smaller” channels. These are teachers that are generously sharing their teachings on YouTube on a regular schedule, that have good sound and lighting and are offering high quality instruction. In this video we will share why we enjoy their teaching and we hope that you will check them out.  Yin Yoga with Matt When Melissa first found Matt he had 38 subscribers and now, not surprisingly, he has over 2K subscribers. What Melissa loves about Matt is his ability to hold space for the quieter practice of yin. I can tell he has had a depth of real life experience that to me means he has been there and so he can hold me in the shadow space.  Timberlake Yoga Brittney supports her yoga students in the slow and moving styles. You can tell as soon as you press play that she has a grounded presence that will hold you as you practice yoga with her.  Brittney's Spotify Playlist Yin Vibes Nourished Natasha If you are looking for a breath of fresh air in the yoga world, then you are going to love Natasha. Melissa loves her witchy, tarot vibe. Natasha offers yoga flow with a focus on mantra, astrology, self love and self care. I love how she creates flows for the new moons and full moons as well as equinoxes and solstices.  Yin Yoga Garage Vince has the kindest energy that comes through the screen that I have ever experienced. His  channel's mission is to be an instrument to help you be the kindest, calmest, most compassionate you through Mindfulness Yin Yoga. In my experience he has accomplished his mission.  It is called Yin Yoga Garage because all Yin classes are recorded in his home garage room which was converted into a virtual studio during the COVID19 lockdown in the Philippines. Melissa loves listening to Vince give dharma talks all through his yin instruction as well as his variations on tried and true yin poses.  Laura Goellner Laura is an Occupational Therapist and one of the most intelligent yoga teachers that I know. She brings her education and experience as an occupational therapist to her teaching. Melissa has studied anatomy with her and has collaborated with her in the past. I highly recommend subscribing to Laura's channel and checking her out.

In this episode of the Intentional Greatness podcast, Melissa joins us to share her journey and talk about the many life lessons for leadership that made her the incredible woman she is today. Life-long Learning With such an extensive resume and involvement in every group you could possibly think of, it is hard to imagine Melissa having time for anything other than work. No matter how busy she gets, however, Melissa consistently finds time to learn and grow in both her personal and professional lives. Melissa is a life-long learner by nature, and she is proof that experiential learning is of the highest value. Right now, her focus with learning is on sales and relationship development. She is interested in learning about her customers' challenges and understanding them so she can provide tailored solutions. That is her passion, and that is where she continues to grow amidst her busy schedule. You can be a student of the world and a focused professional at the same time because your approach to learning will evolve as you evolve as a person. Overcoming Stress in Periods of Growth Melissa operates at a high-level with extreme efficiency, but by no means did that come naturally. When we max out our capacity and cut down the amount of me-time in our day, stress and anxiety is a very common outcome. But those temporary feelings of negativity are not indicators that you are on the wrong track. Mindset is something that we can control, and we have the power to condition ourselves into a state of certainty and confidence. We just need to give ourselves time to adapt. Whether you use sports, exercise, meditation, or anything else to find balance in periods of transition, stress and anxiety are growing pains that we can overcome.

Melissa Morris is a Business Operations Consultant who specializes in client processes, which includes client onboarding, management and offboarding. She uses her 10 years client management experience to help service based business owners streamline and automate these processes as well as teach them how to set client expectations and create and hold boundaries. Melissa's been seen in INC Magazine and Keap Business Success Blog and heard on podcasts such as My Biz Bestie and Productivity Straight Talk. She frees business owners from overwhelm so they can actually work ON their business and not just IN their business. Here's what we covered on the episode: When Melissa had her 9-5 job at an ad agency she was an account executive, which is a project management and client management role and how being in that role served her and created some good systems for herself Melissa explains that she liked her 9-5 job but was craving more flexibility and higher income, so she left her agency and started doing marketing consulting After becoming a marketing consultant, Melissa quickly booked a lot of clients but looked around and realized she hated it and questioned what happened Why Melissa didn't like marketing consulting because she had to execute on a lot of ad plans, where she was writing social media posts, creating graphics and all that comes with consulting, which was unlike the project management role she was in at the agency, which she loved How Melissa approached some of the business owners she'd been working with and started having conversations with them about managing their own projects because she was exploring this new line of work and they loved it Melissa began to realize how this happens to so many solopreneurs, freelancers, etc. who go out on their own and then no longer have a project manager there to serve as a buffer person to keep things on track How Melissa used her social media business to work with some of those business owners and do additional project management work for them When Facebook made their big algorithm change it drastically dropped business page's ability to show up in news feed, and their page views, so Melissa used that as an opportunity to fire a lot of the social media clients she was with and explains why that made sense for her Melissa loves her work and primarily helps service providers create systems and processes, streamline and automate and identify the tools they need in their business to make all of that happen Melissa's experience in client management helped prepare her for tough client conversations and explains that when she presents to clients a shift in her business or unfortunately firing, she highlights the benefits for them and set them up for success as much as she can What Melissa's initial offerings included were conversations about where things were getting stuck in her clients' business, why tasks were slipping through the cracks and helping them get out of overwhelm, which she explains stems from overbooking or not having a clear process Melissa explains that if you can't write down what your process looks like, then it is not nearly as clear as you think and you are going to have a difficult time automating that process or ask for help Two things Melissa sees when it comes to tools is business owners who wait too long to have any tools and other business owners who know they need automation but aren't sure what tool they need and end up duplicating a lot of tools The categories of tools business owners need to pull from including a CRM, a project management tool, a scheduler and an invoicing tool and how Melissa sees the most duplication in the CRM and project management section Melissa walks us through her DISCO Framework where you Define your current process, Identify gaps in your process and redundancies, Streamline by creating canned emails and templates, Create phases and milestones to build accountability, and Outsource and automate Melissa recommends Dubsado, a CRM tool that covers your automation, has a scheduler built into it, and has the ability to automate invoicing Popular project management tools are Asana, Trello and ClickUp, Melissa explains that if you are a checklist type of person you will probably prefer Asana's approach and if you're into visuals you will probably prefer Trello How even if you don't have a lot of clients, but your goal is to grow, and you have the time now to get things into a system, it can be very beneficial to just get started versus waiting to do it so you're prepared for the future Most business owners Melissa works with report saving 5 hours per week which gives them time to spend doing other things to help grow their business or helps give them some breathing room Why Melissa thinks there is a moment when it's too soon to focus on your systems and processes; this might be if you are still refining your services and offers, or you're still playing with who your target audience is, deciding on price points, etc. Melissa explains that you can begin small with automation and just start with automating your invoicing, getting some questionnaires out automatically, or a quick onboarding workflow that can deliver the proposal, contract and a welcome email How it depends on timing and the phase of business the business owner is in when deciding to implement systems and how it might not even be the business owner who realizes something needs to be done Melissa explains her Asana project, where she has different steps set up for her process that help keeps her on track Melissa noticed when she first started working with business owners, they would spend most of their deep dive strategy session searching for their contract or updating the questionnaire so she decided to add a kick-off call to her process and give them some automated resources Melissa's experience moving from one city to another during a pandemic and explains she is just as intentional in her personal life as she is in her business and created checklists for moving and a timeline for moving If you are listening and want to get started, Melissa suggests getting some canned emails, getting your contracts and proposals together, and remember that you can start small Connect with Melissa on Facebook, on her website and check out her Automation Roadmap that will outline your first steps for getting automated Links mentioned: Connect with Melissa on Facebook  Melissa's Website Melissa's Automation Roadmap   Like what you heard? In continued support during COVID 19, Melissa stresses the importance of taking care of your “environment” i.e. your home, head, mind, body and spirit.  She explains that now more than ever, things that are working in your life are being illuminated and things that haven’t been working or unhealed wounds are being triggered and illuminated as well, and now is the opportunity to heal them and clear them. She is here to guide and support you in this being an amazing and enjoyable journey of self-discovery and coming back to Wholeness. Another way she has found to support you is through guided meditations and she has another one here for you today.   But first, Melissa encourages listeners about their mindset during this time in the world. She underscores that you get to choose your experience, and we are being called to what matters most in life: human connection. She walks listeners  through practical ways to reframe their thinking in order to be victors instead of victims. There are two paths you can choose, one is based on fear and the other is based on love.  One will place you as the victim and the other as the victor of your circumstance. You have the option and right now, the paths are very clear and she helps you to identify which one you have been following and what changes you can make. After encouraging listeners, Melissa shares some tried and true reading recommendations from her own bookshelf for others to enjoy while spending time at home. She then guides a meditation to help calm the body and relax the mind.  Today’s guided meditation is to help you release fear and choose love, grounding you and relaxing you, to de-stress and honor all you feel and your inner most desires, bringing them close to your heart and seeing them as yours. While Melissa understands the effect of the virus all around us, her passion is for you to wade these waters via connection with your body rather than your mind.  As always, feel free to share your questions and please share this episode with your episodes in order to help as many people as possible right now. I'm particularly fond of Melissa's defense of the English language, especially on Twitter!     Melissa Case is a master of social media. Her journey to her present role as manager of social community, campaigns, and content for the software company, Citrix— has been paved with success. Success owed largely to her strong writing and English background. In today's episode of The Real Estate Sessions, Melissa shares advice that will help you better utilize social media as a real estate agent. We talk in-depth about writing and Melissa highlights ways you can elevate the quality and impact of your content by changing your approach.  "I don't think it's ever too late to be a blogger. I mean, there are- I think- there's a ton of worth to blogging and you can use your own website or something like Medium, which is a wonderful platform. I love it. You know you want to have thought leadership material. Why  is it that you deserve people's business.” - Melissa Case   Top Takeaways: Melissa Case's Advice for New Agents:   Be diligent and fearless in your pursuits. Don't try to write the way you think you're supposed to write.   "If you are writing in a way that is different from the way everybody else is doing it, then people are going to notice— notice what you're doing, because there are so many people who do things cookie-cutter, so don't do that.” - Melissa Case Melissa Case on Real Estate Social Media:   The content you put out and where you're putting it is dependent on who you're trying to reach.  Know you can't use ALL the platforms. Unless you've got a massive marketing budget, find which ones you're best at and keep it at it. “ So, find the one area that you like, and the thing that you are good at and do that. In a world of non-stop hustle, we often find ourselves maxed out in day to day life. All of the little things we say ‘YES’ to without realizing how it’s killing us inside. Most of us are guilty of fulfilling the needs of others while disregarding what fills us up… what fuels our spirit and what quenches our thirst for life. Like in an airplane, you must first put the mask on yourself before your loved ones. What good are you to others if you’re failing to devote time for personal growth? Coach Chris sits down with Mind Love podcast host Melissa Monte to share an insightful conversation about the POWER and FREEDOM in saying the word ‘No,’ being bolder and how life changing that can be. If you’re causing yourself pain by suppressing what you want most just to please the needs of others and make their feelings more important than your own, get ready to Fill Your Cup and begin acting on your own ambitions and dreams!   "It's our relationship with our self and how many of us sit there and spend time before we start doing a lot of work on ourselves to sit there and say 'what really lights me up, what are my triggers, what are the things I hate doing'..." and "It's really hard to have motivation to do anything if you don't know why you're doing and that includes those little intricacies within any mission." -Melissa Monte   Time Stamps 3:10 Melissa’s story – loss of loved ones, disorders and bad relationships 7:45 What Melissa has learned most by Oversharing and Connecting with her audience 10:30 People pleasing and not being CLEAR about what you want most 13:30 Logging your thoughts, goals, feelings to move you towards real growth 16:30 Emotions rooted in childhood – how this hugely impacts our decisions as adults 22:45 The biggest influences in kid’s lives – What builds true resilience in young people? 25:00 Are young people today MORE or LESS resourceful than our Grandparents? 30:00 Allowing yourself to be more connected in conversation 32:20 Saying NO doesn’t have to be mean or rude – how to deliver the WHY with your NO 35:55 Scheduling ‘Yourself’ In TO DO the things that Fill You Up Most 40:00 Is our brain hardwired to focus on the negatives? Ordinary People. Ordinary Things. with Melissa Radke

This show is going to be a bit different. It is my book birthday. It is launch day of my book Eat Cake. Be Brave. Imagine that you have been keeping a diary since 7th grade, and it was made public. That is kind of how I’m feeling. I’m sharing today, and all of my launch day feelings and emotions with my wonderful husband David and you my wonderful listeners. You can find Melissa here: Podcast Web Page Facebook Page @MsMelissaRadke on Instagram @msmelissaradke on Twitter Show Notes [02:33] The first time Melissa and David met was on a bus in school. She'll never forget his first words, “WHAT ARE YOU DOING?” [03:48] What does Eat Cake. Be Brave. Actually mean? [04:11] When Melissa turned 41 she was about to blow out the candles on her birthday cake, and she wished for bravery. [06:09] She wished to be brave for 12 months. After blowing out her candles, she went back to her room and began to journal what bravery meant to her. The rest is history. [07:01] All we need is a flicker of bravery and going upstream when everyone else is going downstream. Even if it's only for a little bit. [08:02] Why Melissa is so relatable. When Melissa began discovering her voice she realized that she wrote the same way that she talked. This alone made her voice relatable. [09:04] It's easy to relate to Melissa's words because she says what we are actually thinking. [09:38] Melissa is real enough to say you hurt me, and God helped us. [10:06] Melissa is real enough to say the truth and to admit her shortcomings and failures. [10:41] The style and genre of the book. [11:08] The book is a memoir. It's about all the years in Melissa's life that led up to that one year that changed her forever. [11:32] We have had wonderful reviews. One recurring theme is that the book is an easy read. [12:03] The most surprising thing for most people is that the book is funny. It's really funny. [13:18] This book is for women who are tired of standing in the back of the stage and are ready to take center stage in their lives. [13:53] If you're not a religious person, you will still love and identify with this book. [15:23] We had an editorial review that said this woman loved the book and didn't feel preached to. We can be like Christ without preaching it. [15:45] Melissa's writing is kind of like Mindy Kaling, Amy Poehler, or Tina Fey. Those are the three that she hears. [16:32] The overarching theme that Melissa hopes to communicate with the book. [18:00] We have got to become more aware of the words that our Creator has said about us. [19:30] Once we learn the truth about what God has said about us, we can walk in the truth of bravery. [19:57] What Melissa go back and change the pain that she has experienced? [20:13] No. If it meant doing it all again, she would do it. [20:58] Melissa knows what love and healing can do. She would do everything again if it would help one woman to step out of the shadows and live the life she was meant to live. [21:58] The book is about the entire family including David, Remi, Rocco, and even Melissa's mother, her Granny, Aunt Melba, and some of her girlfriends. [22:14] When Melissa's mother is talking in the book the font actually changes. And it is written in the style that her mother speaks in. [24:52] David is curious if there's a scene in The Bodyguard that Melissa would like to act out. [26:22] If someone is unsure about buying the book, Melissa would encourage them to come see her on the book tour. [28:20] Melissa wants these people to see someone just like them who decided to fight for one year. [28:41] You can find out more about the tour here. [29:51] Follow Melissa on social media. We have a lot of exciting press coming up in the next couple of weeks. [30:22] Lightning round questions… [32:15] When the ball is in our hands, what will we do? [33:07] The book is an easy read that will make people laugh and will make people cry. There was a lot of blood, sweat and tears that went into this book. [33:22] David is so proud of Melissa. Melissa and her husband David live in Lufkin, Texas with their two kids, Remi Hope and Rocco Cooper who they fought so hard for during 12 years of infertility.  Friends, get ready because on today's show you're going to laugh, cry, and love hearing my conversation with Melissa! We start off the show talking about being brave while also feeling anxiety and fear. Melissa discusses how we learn so much through taking self-inventory and fighting the urge to point the finger outward instead of looking within ourselves. She also talks about how the reality tv show came to be and never in a million years did she think this would be part of God's plan! Melissa then shares the story of how she and her husband started out in Nashville and wound up in Texas, and faced infertility, loss of dreams, miscarriages, and broken trust in their marriage. She tells us how vulnerably sharing both sides of the story of her marriage brought healing. She says, "our most vulnerable stories are our most powerful thing", and I couldn't agree more. Hearing her story brought me to tears, but Melissa brings such encouragement as she talks about how our God is always faithful, and how He is constantly, always working for our good.  {You can listen to the show HERE. And of course, I would love if you would share with your friends.
