This episode of the Wholeness podcast is quick and focused, giving you just the boost you need to get unstuck and face your fears. You might find yourself coming back to the lessons that Melissa teaches in this episode multiple times because fear is something that we all deal with at times. Fear can manifest in many different ways, but it is most commonly associated with resistance and with the ego, meaning that the unknown has propelled your mind into protection mode rather than listening to your body which is craving change. Fear is often discord within your soul because you are facing the prospect of leaving your comfort zone, but Melissa says that this is important to acknowledge. After noticing this fear, the best way to overcome it is to talk about the possibilities available to us. This will open up that mind-body connection that was broken when your mind wanted to keep you safe and your body wanted to move forward. If you need help to see the possibilities, ask for divine guidance, expect only miracles, and choose to be excited about what is coming to you. Melissa often experiences this while dreaming, and she teaches that you write in a desire journal every night, place your desire, ask to be shown, and request that you can remember upon waking. You can’t stay stuck when you are so excited about pushing past your fears that they cease to exist. Melissa continues the conversation on creating new identities for yourself that she began on the previous episode of the Wholeness podcast. When thinking about whether your identities are serving you or hurting you, it is helpful to recognize that all of the ones that are not serving you were placed on you by other people, perhaps your family, and the ones that are serving you, are identities that you have already created for yourself. While you might not feel like you are capable of creating new identities that serve you, you already have that power within yourself as the aspects of yourself that feel good to you, or that you are proud of, are in fact identities, you created and believed in as you continued to foster the belief of them.  Therefore if you were able to create aspects you love about yourself, then you can just as easily create new ones to replace the ones that you don’t like.  Melissa teaches you how in today’s episode! Once you have this realization, you can shift your mentality and break the mental barriers that have been holding you back and keeping you settled into the identities that others have placed on you. Melissa also lets you in on a little secret: no one knows what they are doing in life. This liberating revelation allows you to decide who you want to be and what you want to do, to expect only miracles because you know that if you desire it, it is already on its way to you. Melissa’s topic on this episode of the Wholeness podcast is how to create new identities that serve you. In her work with her clients, she uses several different modalities and methodologies that all help her clients recognize the roles they created as children within their family constructs and among their friends that they have continued to live into as adults.    Melissa explains in detail what these varying “Roles or Identities” can be, how they got created and provides examples of how they play out in adulthood - sharing the important distinction, that we, as the creators of these identities can release them. That we in fact do not need to continue to own certain “Labels/Identities/Roles” we take on if we do not like them; or as Melissa would say, “if they are hurting us instead of serving us”.  She takes you through a variety of exercises to help you gain clarity on the roles you took on in childhood that you are continuing to own as an adult.  These simple questions are posed to you in today’s episode: Make a list of the roles that serve you and another list of the roles that hurt you that you see yourself living into and owning as a part of your identity as an adult. Ask yourself “How have these roles supported me? It is important to identify where they came from in your life, and to keep in mind that you can always change, no matter what you have been through in the past.  Our roles are developed by our relationships with our family, friends, colleagues, and circumstances, combined with others projections that formed our perception - our internalized view of ourselves.    To your parents or siblings, you will forever be the pre-adolescent version of yourself. The most loving thing you can do for yourself and those around you is to stand up for yourself and relinquish those irrelevant labels that are hurting you. On this episode of the Wholeness podcast, Melissa answers the question from a listener, “How can I accept where I am when I’m striving to change?” Melissa reveals that just the use of the word ‘striving’ in the question says so much about the listeners mindset.    Striving is motivated by masculine energy, and based on the fear that the thing you are wanting is not happening for you. Instead of living with this mentality of lack and fear-based thinking - with the focus being on the absence of the thing you’re wanting.   Melissa offers listeners the insight of being conscious of your energy while intentionally choosing to live aligned with your feminine energy in these moments, instead of trying to work hard to achieve or get the things you want.   She says that when you are living in your feminine energy, you will be in your flow and you will believe that what you want is already on its way to you. The topic on this episode of the Wholeness podcast is self-acceptance and self-love, which is especially important during COVID-19, when we feel so isolated. Even though you may feel disconnected from others, Melissa describes connection with and love for yourself as of utmost importance right now and always.  She teaches that the only two human emotions are love and fear and that fear becomes primary when you are letting your ego have control. The topic of today’s Wholeness podcast is feminine and masculine energies, balancing them, understanding when to utilize one over the other and seeing the benefits of each.   More importantly, especially given the state of the world, understanding how they are impacting your actions and relationships is needed.  Melissa shares with her community in-depth insights about the polarities of feminine and masculine energies that exist within all of us.  If off balance, she also gives examples of specific struggles we may encounter internally, in our relationships, as well as our careers.   Society continues to perpetuate the archaic narrative that one of the main characteristics of being in the feminine is exuding weakness, i.e. being weak, a doormat, not able to stand for one self, being shy, indecisive and/or complacent.  The true essence of the feminine is a fierce warrior who lives in flow, loves freedom, is connected to her body, driving from her intuitive guidance system to take inspired action, and is a receptive container for all good things - knowing they will come.   The feminine and those who operate from this powerful energy are super attractors. Their desires manifest quickly with little effort.  Efforting is a masculine energy.  When in the feminine,  she is in her worth - she knows that she is the gift and that everyone benefits from being around her. She is so powerful that men are intimidated by what she possesses, by the ease and power in which she creates and achieves success. In relationships, Melissa explains that it is important to understand that there is always a balance of masculine and feminine energies, and that men and women possess both, each energy serving a purpose. This episode of the Wholeness podcast is particularly timely since most of the US is still staying mostly at home due to the coronavirus pandemic. Melissa shares with listeners about her own personal experiences with dieting and the ways that the diet mindset stemmed from her 10-year old self. 10 years old is typically a milestone year for girls as they come to be more aware of their own bodies and establish beliefs about themselves in comparison with others or in comparison to how they think they should look. Melissa’s limiting beliefs were put on the wrong trajectory when her mother took her to a Weight Watchers meeting and Melissa realized that her mother must think that she is fat. From that point on, she was a perpetual dieter, constantly eating clean and counting calories only to be left feeling unfulfilled and ashamed if and when she “slipped up”. One morning she woke up in her apartment in New York and realized that she couldn’t keep living like that and she started her journey towards wholeness and healing. You likely have a similar story, guided by experiences or limiting beliefs from your past that could still be affecting you today. But Melissa wants you to know that you can overcome those feelings and find healing by connecting with your body and listening to your inner guidance. You may think that your weight is holding you back from who you want to be or where you want to go, but the ultimate roadblock is really your relationship with yourself. Those past experiences and beliefs only have the meaning you assign to them, and you can choose to create a new narrative. Melissa’s topic on this episode of the Wholeness podcast is a familiar one to listeners who have been learning from Melissa for some time, but it is especially timely in the midst of COVID-19. Melissa has previously offered her insights on masculine and feminine energies, the balance that should be found, and appropriate times to be in each one, but as most women in the U.S. are still working from home and many are trying to manage households and families as well, the need for living in the feminine is so needed. These circumstances tend to bring out our masculine energies because of the need to accomplish things, check them off of our list, and move on to the next task without much pause or reflection. This cycle will lead to burnout and could have devastating results on multiple areas of our lives, so it is of utmost importance for us to tap into our feminine, take a beat, feel the feelings, get in touch with our bodies, reflect back on what has given us joy in the past, and set up new practices that will help us live into our feminine. When you are in your feminine flow, your mind, body, and spirit are aligned and you are able to transcend the circumstances to recognize the gifts and the joy around you. In today’s episode, Melissa breaks down how to cut sugar and cure your cravings for good. She outlines four steps that can help you to break the habit and stop your sugar cravings.    Melissa also spends time discussing the mechanics of emotional eating and how this plays a large role in why sugar feels more powerful than your desire to be healthy and fit.   She wants to reiterate - there is nothing wrong with you, her beautiful friend.  If you’ve been over-indulging this episode will help.   The key takeaway is that sugar addiction is like any other addiction, if not even more challenging due to the fact that we need to consciously and continually choose healthier alternatives each day, multiple times a day.  Once you have a small taste, it’s hard to stop and break away from what you’re eating.  This is when binges occur.    However, Melissa points out that there are several helpful things you can do to get ahead of your eating habits by pausing, connecting and choosing to align with yourself to know what the “real” reason for reaching for sugar and food is - if it’s NOT from hunger.     Ask these four questions if you’re tempted to indulge the sugar addiction: “Am I really hungry right now?” “What’s going on in my life right now?” “Is food going to serve me or hurt me?” “What can I do instead?”   Some action steps:   The first thing you eat in the day will set the tone for your eating for the day. Here’s the thing with control - when we’re in control, we’re trying to play “God” with our own lives - meanwhile blocking the universe from giving us what it is we really want from the path of least resistance.    The bottom line is, you’re not allowing room for support from anyone or anything in your life - making you feel like you always need to control, strive and struggle to create the results you want. You make life challenging this way - you’re cutting off those who love you and want to support you by your tight grip.    Melissa talks about her life-altering career change that brought her to pursue her passion for coaching and helping women. But the thing she felt called to help women with, was the very thing Melissa struggled with - her weight but she discovered it wasn’t actually the weight she was pained by; it was her lack of love for herself - her denial of her true self and critical inner voice that kept her stuck and always pushing instead of trusting and allowing.    As an ex-controller, she’s witnessed first-hand the power in letting go and shares how you experience a greater sense of control and certainty when you release and let go.     Melissa dives deep into this in today’s episode, while giving you the exact tools you need to trust and allow so that you can have the freedom and flow you’ve been wanting in your life, mirrored by magical manifestations greater than your imagination.   Brief Outline:   When we’re in control, it’s like we’re playing God in our life.  Being too controlling, we don’t allow family and friends who love us and want to support us. Your ego = your mind is based on human experience only. Our minds are set up for survival.  Our mind only knows what we’ve taught it. For example, when you were born, you were a “light being”. You were only of love and light. There was no concept or understanding around hurt or sadness. Then you had human experiences of people telling you things that were created into stories and thus you created your identity around your experience and others words and projections.  Steps to create a new identity. How does she feel? How does she look? How does she act? Create how your ideal day would go in your ideal world, being your ideal self. What does that look like? Write it down. Record it on your phone. Read/listen to it every morning and every night to program your subconscious mind.  We have to release control by listening to that still quiet voice within us that says this is your next step.  Your mind will say no.  You will come up with reasons why this isn’t a good idea. Identify with who we really want to be and how we want to operate in the world. We want to recognize the stories aren't serving us and choose to release them and let go.  Next, look at what we are gaining by having such a tight grip on everything.   Now we sit here and wonder what we’re going to do: We’re scared that we won’t like who we are if we get still and tap into those places we’ve been afraid to feel.  We’re afraid of what’s on the other side.  Control is created as a protection mechanism.  Perfectionism is a disease that robs us from finding true peace and happiness in life. Repeat this all day, every day: I LET GO AND I’M IN FLOW. Women ran the world before men took over.  Queens do not allow disrespect of any kind. They invest in themselves.  A queen commands and demands attention, honor and respect.  Take time to connect to yourself - to your inner queen.  Remind yourself daily and repeat: I let go and I’m in flow. Episode 45: How To Turn Being Empathic Into A Superpower & Develop Your Gifts

In today’s episode, Melissa discusses how to recognize your empathic nature, how to see it as a superpower, how to protect that energy, and how to use that for the good of others at this time.   Melissa’s focus today is largely on the idea that empaths have the ability to help people, but they have to tap into their gifts first and see them as gifts versus weaknesses.    Unfortunately, there are lots of stigmas around people who typically identify as empaths, and Melissa being one herself, knows the importance of viewing your empathic nature as a superpower and to not let others judgements steal your joy or power.   Once recognized, the next step is to understand the potential of the empath: that they have superpowers. They can anticipate the needs of others and speak directly into them. They also have one of a variety of preternatural gifts, like clairvoyance,  clairaudience, clairsentience, claircognizance, and can use these gifts to help those around them.   Unfortunately, like anything valuable, these gifts must be protected. Namely, from negative energies and the drain of energy vampires. Melissa shares a few tips on how to protect your gifts. One of these strategies involves calling on a higher power (whichever you prefer) to help enrobe yourself in a white/golden light, packed as tightly as you can. It’s this envisioning that can ward off the drain of the negative people around you. You also can just cut it off at the root. Make a cutting motion and declare yourself protected.   Finally, ask God to be used as a conduit for his will. Seek the help of the supernatural in order to tap into your inner self. You will start to hear your inner voice (and for the first time, recognize it) and use it to understand the inner guidance you have. Follow that guidance to capitalize on your empathic nature. And help people. Go out there and do your best work. Say you’ll do it, and do it. Make the time, commit, and give your gifts back. There’s nothing more rewarding.   Brief Outline: The sacred feminine is on the rise — as an empath, you can use this to your advantage. Empaths were usually told they are too emotional or sensitive as children. This mostly refers to getting out chemicals and addictive agents. Step one is to get connected back to the body by getting “clean.” She exhibits some of the characteristics of all the sentients. Melissa describes how she came to know she was more intuitive than most. Melissa did not feel her empathic nature as a superpower. It was a burden. Breakdown of why empaths tend to turn against themselves in the first place. Light-workers need to empower themselves to hear the messages from within. It’s not about convincing anyone else to fall in line with your truth. You can protect yourself as a light-worker. Imagine that you are wrapped tightly in a sheet of gold and light. You can turn over the weight of that back to the supernatural. As scary as the unknown is, you have nothing to fear. Speak directly to God, etc. about how you can be used as a conduit for its will. “God, may I love me as you love me. May I see me as you see me. May I hear only loving words. May I think only loving thoughts. May I feel only loving emotions. May I only be that of love. I am love. You are love. We are one. Connected forever.” Melissa’s Prayer: Recognizing that we are all light-beings is step one. Embrace the gift of being emotional — you can use that to help other people. Start by looking inwardly and asking your higher self for guidance. You don’t need to know the why...you don’t even need to know the how. Your words create your reality. Episode 44: Addiction: How to Heal, Feel and Release the Need to Numb Your Emotions

In this episode, Melissa discusses something that is relevant to many people: addiction. Whether it’s an addiction to food, alcohol, drugs, sex, social media, or anything in between, this episode will help you or your loved ones understand and hopefully offer support to make sense of the need for excess, the strong desire to overindulge, and numb out which are the very things that keep us locked in the pattern of addiction.  Melissa’s prayer is this episode supports you  or your loved ones in healing and moving forward - even if awakening one part of you. Melissa begins by highlighting the overconsumption that is happening currently in quarantine. We were living very busy lives before and now that we have stopped, people are noticing things in their life that they overlooked before. And with the difficulty of what’s happening, the difference between people who have tools for self-development and those who don’t is more evident - there is a clear divide between the awakened and the unawake. She notes that obesity, racism, anger, depression, and, of course, addiction are all on the rise, because there is an inability to process the pain, unhappiness, conflict, and self-rejection that is going on. We need to be healed from within and utilize our higher power and connection to self, nature and source like never before - this is the only way to combat addition. To break free and not perpetuate your current experience, Melissa encourages listeners to choose the higher path. In this episode, she gives tools to be able to experience freedom and lightness. Melissa reminds listeners that we all ebb and flow on the journey. Sometimes our ego pulls us back and sometimes we listen to our higher consciousness. We need to remember that we are in charge of our environment, both inside and out. Take a look at your addiction and your home. Be aware of things that tempt you and make you want to engage in your addictive behavior, then get rid of them! If you haven’t built your muscle to resist something, help yourself by keeping those things away. Regardless of the difficulty you’re facing, Melissa notes that you can propel yourself forward very quickly toward the life that you want if you see the challenges as catalysts. Even if it’s hard, be okay with the mess and focus on seeing that things are happening for you. Lastly, Melissa talks about how to support an addict, whether it’s yourself or a loved one. One  of the best things you can do for a loved one is say a prayer, let them go, and distance yourself so that you don’t enable them. And, if you’re the one who is addicted, Melissa has learned through experience that having faith is one of the best ways to support yourself. It helps you know that you are supported and gets you out of playing god with yourself and your life. In today’s episode, Melissa discusses how to ditch the mindset that is preventing you from being truly free from food. She calls this the “three mindset secrets to ditch your weight-loss struggle.”   Melissa begins by offering some support to those who have struggled with placing food over themselves, and begins to offer some realistic ways to take captive those thoughts in order to best serve yourself. While explaining her background, Melissa expands on the “holistic” attitude, which ultimately extends beyond physical health and into mental and spiritual health.   Having healed herself from cancer and other illnesses, she does not place primary emphasis on Western medicine, and neither should you. Beyond this, Melissa is a hypnotherapist and an expert on emotional and mindset mastery. Diving into the first masterclass (to go live every Tuesday night), Melissa unpacks how to change your mindset.   Step 1: Uncover the truth of who you are without the weight. She encourages the listener to first write down who you are; that is, describe your current identity. This is the first step in mindset mastery—many of us root our identities in our bodies. A: Answer the question, “Do I believe I can lose this weight without dieting?” Most people are not honest with themselves about how they’re hurting their own goals. This includes cheating on diet days and snacking late at night. B: Burn what you wrote about your identity before. C: Create a new identity. What is the identity you want to embody? Write a paragraph. Begin with declarative “I am” and “I have” statements to manifest your will. D: Write down how it feels to consider this new identity. You want to tap into truth. Read your new identity every night and very morning. E: Write down who you would be without your past. Consider how often you lean on your past mistakes instead of leaning into the present. What would your relationship with food be?   Step 2: Make a declaration of who you choose to be. A: Make a list of all the past beliefs based on your past. B: Burn those core beliefs along with the identity you’re burning. C: Make a list of the beliefs that line up with the identity you actually want. In other words, what would that woman believe to be true?   Step 3: What areas of your life are out of alignment?   Melissa walks through this process and teaches her viewers that this newly-constructed identity must be repeated to yourself in order to train your brain to release the other, harmful identities.    On the note of healing, Melissa touches on the idea that many of us feel healing if not for all the pain that they’ve been able to avoid. Fear of your own anger and your own sadness has only hurt your ability to heal, and you owe yourself the healing, the mental freedom, and the mastered mindset. She presses the viewers to act as though their new identities have already become their own realities. She gives many examples of the differences between truths and beliefs.   Later, Melissa shares some stories related to her own struggle with emotional eating and how having the right community is vital to your success. As you rewrite your story, you have to realize that you cannot get there by staying where you are.  You literally need to shift into the paradigm of a new mindset. There is a piece within that is connected to the universe: you need to tap into that piece to transform your mindset.    Melissa saved her own life from cancer by tying herself to a belief system that’s greater. Channeling that energy will solidify the identity you want to take over. Lean into the moments when you’re deflecting, when you’re apologizing—the moments when you lack love for yourself. In this episode, Melissa unpacks the problem of energy vampires, negative energy, and how we can regain a sense of control over our spiritual lives. She shares some tips about how to identify energy vampires, and she gives some insights into how to better tune in  and clear out your own energies. Melissa explains that your energy can be defended by you  and cleared out, but it’s up to you to do the work by identifying sources, people, places and experiences that detract from you feeling grounded, positive and in alignment with yourself.   Melissa begins by explaining how we are familiar with navigating the ups and downs of our own lives with respect to our own personality types, but how the onset of the pandemic and subsequent racial riots have made it nearly impossible to stay in tune with ourselves. Melissa—and her clients alike—have noticed that the chaos of this time has been reflected in her moods and overall positive energy levels. But because our goal is to be confident in expressing our emotions, we have to understand how to navigate them in a time of crisis.   This navigation involves taking a check of your own mental health and energy levels as well as checking the energy of those around you. This is where the concept of the energy vampire comes in: imagine someone just sucking all the energy out of you. The reality is that energy vampires are real and you have to be aware of how they’re affecting your moods.   One very real example of this energy drainage we’re all experiencing is in the form of the massive amounts of screen time in our lives. Melissa explains what energy vampires are and how to rid your life of them, but first she gives a proper model for how to take stock of your own energies. Understanding how to clear out your own energies is crucial in being able to defend them against the negative forces of the energy vampires.   Melissa breaks down the characteristics of the energy vampires and how they impact the wellbeing of your energies. She empowers her listeners to defend their emotional spaces, pushing back against energy vampires, and creating exits to protect their positive energy.   In conclusion, Melissa shares some hands-on practices for elevating your energy levels by using prayer, speaking directly, and even using gemstones to rid your spaces of negative energies. She also gives some tips and examples of things to clear out your physical and mental spaces—because ultimately, you don’t need to hold onto those energies anymore. We are more connected than ever before, but we are being inundated with different energies. The amount of energy going into digital video is extraordinary—and draining. Your goal is to have compassion for yourself; to no longer abandon yourself, your voice or your desires. How to take stock of your energy: Ideally refrain from meditating with any of your limbs crossed as this blocks energy. Deeply inhale and take a scan of your body starting from your crown chakra to the bottom of your feet with white light. (Melissa guides you through this powerful exercise) Take note of where you feel a block or discomfort as you are energetically scanning your body. You can cut the bad energy out of your life and Melissa speaks to identifying the places in your life to do so.. Accountability removes  victim energy and empowers you to change. A trigger is an unhealed emotional response in the body. Energy vampires are typically categorizes with such attributes: Gossipers Highly critical and judgmental of self and others Frequently angry and surrounded by drama Complaining about the same stories repeatedly Constantly complaining and in a negative space  Easily triggered   Energetically-negative people are to be avoided. Melissa talks about the concept of the “power of intention,” and its ability to help you be a co-creator of your day and therefore your life. This is extremely empowering, especially during a time of such uncertainty.   She goes in-depth helping her listeners to understand the concept Melissa teaches about how we all wear masks, different persona’s of ourselves we’ve intuitively created throughout our lives to support ourselves in varying life situations.     However, as we age, some masks no longer support us because we realize we are hiding our true selves and our desires.  Over time, we can stop expressing our opinions, blocking our emotions and in many cases our dreams and desires, settling for a life, body and relationships that are not what our hearts have really longed for nor what our soul has called us to experience in this life.   These “masks” you’ve developed to help you cope with life, actually end up hurting you, and it can be confusing as you realize you built a life that is not what you really wanted or you’ve been struggling with your weight, career, money or relationships, because you’ve been afraid to be yourself and aren’t even clear on who that woman might be. Most of all the fear of not being accepted if you are true to yourself.   This is where being intentional, allows you to embrace your dreams and allow them to manifest through setting your daily desires in the intention setting practice Melissa shares in today’s episode.   Melissa explains that there is a serious distinction between setting intentions (desires for outcomes) and making to-do lists. Intentionality can fuel all the desires you have, including making healthier eating choices, sleeping more soundly, and being more present in the day.   Brief Outline: Intentionality defined. “Masks,” or ways we learn to cope with the problems of life What if you prepared your meals ahead of time? Today, she encourages listeners how to achieve their dreams speaking from her own personal, huge mistakes, big wins, what she wishes she’d known and more on the journey to where she is today. Melissa also shares the three foundational building blocks that must be aligned in order to be successful in your own business or as an intra-preneur - one who builds a business within another business.   The first of these 3 pillars that is most important, is your mindset around your self worth. Secondly, you need to understand that your dream is meant for you and is fail-proof as long as you follow your desires and where your higher self is leading you. Thirdly, you must invest in yourself, and view that as the most important investment in your business.  Not just a business coach, but a mindset coach to support your vision.  Any coaches you hire or programs you invest in, it’s imperative they are aligned with your vision for your life, your future and what you’re building.   Melissa encourages you that without establishing these three key points especially in your mindset, you will likely have minimal success with a lot of hard work, striving and struggling.  You can be successful but the journey there will be much different than the one taken by allowing your feminine to drive and your intuition to be your guide. In today’s episode Melissa wanted to address many of the messages she’s continually receiving about COVID and how to best survive during this time.   Melissa shares with listeners some key strategies for thriving in the middle of a pandemic, especially with regard to health and wellness. She’s received a lot of responses about how to deal with the new normal, and how not to eat everything in sight, so she developed this plan to help her listeners re-establish the structures necessary to beat this regain a sense of certainty in crisis.   If you’re feeling generally out of control and overwhelmed with the sameness, you need to first create a routine. Make things consistent again to get out of vacation-mode. Take control of your eating. Set hours for your kitchen to curb the endless snacking. Pay attention to what you’re putting in your body, in your mind, etc. Establish meal times. Cooking at home can really help with this. High-nutritional profile foods and whole foods are best. Be mindful about the food that’s in your house. Keep track of whether your eating habits are reactionary. Set yourself up for a successful day by letting yourself get adequate sleep. Break the habits (i.e. screens) that are hindering your ability to get a good night’s sleep. Pay attention to how often you’re moving. We become stagnant when we’re not choosing to move and be creative about our physical activity. Be sure to schedule it first thing. Mapping out the week in advance can be very helpful. Focus on your mindset. Be mindful about what you’re allowing in your mind because they impact every part of your life.  Make intentional connections. Call your friends and family while walking. FaceTime people so you can feel the energy and connection with another person. Schedule phone dates on the weekends to keep your routine and give yourself something to focus on. Consider scheduling watching Netflix with other people. Pay attention to your moods. If you’re spiritual, lean on God’s plan of greater good. Continue to pray if you pray. Let go of the things that haven’t been serving you. Don’t smirch your creativity. In this episode, Melissa talks about the link between our emotional state and our tendencies with overeating. It is a fact that most women who have dieted most of their lives, no longer trust their food choices or their bodies, fully disconnected from awareness around their true hunger patterns. Turning to food for comfort and emotional support is a coping mechanism for life and soothing ourselves, that was created from pre-programming or in childhood, and is now being highlighted due to being quarantined and COVID 19.  Melissa shares the reasons why your body is always willing to corroborate with eating right and choosing clean, healthy foods to nourish yourself for a certain dieting period, explaining it’s your mind that needs to believe you’re worthy of the best body in order to treat it and feed it as such.  She gives you four questions that you can write down to ask yourself to evaluate your true state of hunger and emotional wellbeing.   An exercise from Mellissa: You’re going to track your hunger. Sit and write what your hunger is- on a scale of 1-10 write what not being hungry tends to be like. Notice your eating patterns and the time of day that you’re weakest to food. Listen to the full episode,  to learn how to use this quarantine time to your advantage as you put yourself first before everybody else.  You will also learn the right amount of food you need for your specific body to be consuming without overindulging.  What you will learn: Why most women that have dieted don’t know when they’re hungry and how turning to food have become a habit only being highlighted now.  We use food as a coping mechanism from things that are going on in life.  Start a food journal- track your eating habits in the next 2 weeks and recognize times of the day when you’re conditioned to eat. Why you don’t need more willpower or discipline and what you need instead. Melissa explains the in-depth consequences of dieting for a long time.  Why positive thoughts equal positive actions that bring positive results to move forward and succeed. Why most dieters are not connected to their bodies.  The art of eating what you want when you want without overindulging. How our relationship with food stems from conditioning from our formative years- the emotional attachment we have with food.  The big T trauma and small T trauma that helps you form a negative belief system about yourself. These are things that trigger emotional stress when you think of them and drive you towards food. Melissa describes the amount of food your stomach needs. Is your worth tied to your weight? In this episode, Melissa Kathryn makes it clear, we all have trauma in some form.  And the lack of addressing it is doing way more harm than good. We can’t keep brushing areas of our lives and ourselves we fear, under the carpet, out of fear we won’t like what we find or who we are.  In fact, Melissa shares the immense damage being done by not giving yourself the grace, love and time to know all facets of yourself. And to this point, that this lack of knowing and accepting oneself and understanding how life events impacts us on a deep, cellular level, is one of the main reasons why, as women we continue to self-sabotage. Melissa talks about trauma being stored in the body including sexual trauma and how it correlates to struggles with weight. Melissa shares with listeners simple steps for approaching anxiety, overwhelm, and chronic procrastination in a way that will lead to whole body wholeness rather than feeding into the cycle of those tendencies. The first thing to remember is that these feelings originate in your mind, which is set up to always keep you safe, and the answer is to get grounded within yourself and seek the answers from your body. It is often quite difficult to overcome the mindsets that have been programmed in us by our circumstances or by the feelings and needs of our inner child, but a good way to start is with these steps: Know that you will never have a question that your body does not know the answer to. Consider whether you are taking the time to look inward and whether you are trusting the guidance you receive there. Accept that there is nothing wrong with you. You are and can only be right, no matter what your mind tries to tell you about the different parts of yourself. There is so much pressure on women to look, act, talk, and think the “right” way, but there is nothing wrong with you when you are connected to your higher self. Get in touch with your inner child. She has set up these beliefs and narratives for some reason, so take some time with her to find out what she needs. Sit with one hand on your heart and one hand on your womb and ask her what she needs and then affirm that she is safe, that you are safe. On this episode of the Wholeness podcast, Melissa Kathryn talks with her dear friend Cherie about her experience going through the Weight Loss for Life program. Before Cherie started working with Melissa through Weight Loss for Life, she struggled with crippling anxiety and an unhealthy relationship with food, which left her always searching for the next best way to lose weight. Emotional eating was something she started doing early in her childhood to deal with difficult situations at home, but she didn’t think there was anything she could do about it. Additionally, anxiety had become her security blanket throughout her life, shielding her from emotions which could make her feel unsafe – or so her mind had led her to believe. Cherie knew that Weight Loss for Life would be different when Melissa called her to get her started on the program and kept in touch with her all along the way. Once she got into the program, she realized that the first step before any external changes could occur was to work on her own mindset, healing internally the things that had been broken and hidden from everyone – even herself – for so long. She learned to love herself, to trust herself, to speak her truth, and to get grounded every morning through a morning practice. Before long, she felt like a brand new version of herself, which was really just the authentic version that had been inside all along. In this episode, Melissa Kathryn welcomes the new decade, 2020, and the opportunity to create who we want to be. She opens by sharing one of her Dad’s thoughts about how to have power when you speak followed by a trend she’s noticing to run from 2019. She shares a personal story of hardship in 2019 and underscores that we must take 2019’s lessons with us into the New Year, including tips on how to make 2020 an epic year. First, Melissa encourages listeners to give themselves the grace, compassion, love and honor of all they’ve experienced in 2019. She highlights that you must break out of your old mold which includes embracing every aspect of yourself and involves “shadow work.” Be excited that you did the best you could with 2019, and if not, be honest with yourself about where you could have done more and be excited for that opportunitty now.  Melissa then asks listeners to examine what kind of growth they would like in 2020 and to narrow it down to two words. She gives an example of her own words, “generosity” and “expression.” By generosity, she means generous in time, spirit, listening and more. She wants to make an impact with that generous spirit, pass it on and for you to pass it on. By expression, she means to look inside herself and not see the impact she wants to make as an obligation but rather an absolute gift and honor. Next, Melissa challenges listeners to think of where they want to be a year from now and break it down into every area of their life - spiritually, relationships, career, creativity, body/health/fitness, home, financial, etc. What are the biggest pieces and what do you want for yourself? Stretch yourself and take realism out of the equation. Write down your goals  and then your stretch goals. Then, take the action steps to get you to the stretch goal. Begin by writing an “I am, I have” story and then, record it on the voice memo on your phone. Listen to it in the morning and at night in order to repattern your mind and plant the seeds.  In conclusion, Melissa recaps the invitation for stepping into Wholeness in 2020 and what that means. Melissa’s teaching through the program opened her eyes to her necessity to work on herself holistically, not solely focusing on her weight loss goals. She is now so connected to her own body that she knows what she needs and wants and she is aligned with her higher self. This is a special series of Episodes in which Melissa Kathryn shares the spotlight with her client Rose from her Weight Loss For Life group, to share about her challenges and triumphs this past year, as she embarked on her journey to wholeness. Wholeness is getting you back to who you were before you ever thought you were “less than” so you can shine your light and live the life and have the body you’ve always wanted and known was meant for you in your soul. When Melissa introduces Rose, Rose shares her background of what led her to Weight Loss for Life, which was a lifelong battle of gaining and losing weight along with a lack self-worth that caused her to struggle with her dreams as an artist.  Rose is an RN specializing in Palliative Care and is beginning to coach individual’s as an End of Life consultant on the heals of a major loss in her life which is shared more deeply in this episode. She is also a musician, singer and actress. Melissa explores with Rose how her weight impacted her creative work and reveals the rebirthing journey over the nine month program of Weight Loss for Life.  Rose shares her old identity vs. her identity now- she now knows her worth and no longer has to question that. Her whole life she has struggled with depression and a melancholy spirit, and as the youngest of a large family, her weight loss has helped her “grow up.”  Rose  continues to share a personal story of a very special friendship over the past nine months and how the beauty of that relationship has shown her who she is and of what she is capable. In addition, she found the Weight Loss for Life community to be meaningful accountability and support that she greatly needed during a difficult time Melissa shares how she watched Rose take something heartbreaking and used tools to unfold and transcend her difficult loss into a rebirthing of a new passion in her life that will help so many. Melissa asks Rose to share with other women that are widows, have lost someone they love, are struggling with weight or “playing small in their life,” how she “slapped a smile on” when inside she was binging and not so good and needed to recognize she deserved more.  Rose echoes that Weight Loss for Life helped her believe in who she is and recognize her crazy thoughts that were filling her mind. She also shares her favorite tools from the program. This week on the Wholeness Podcast, Melissa dives into inner child work, breaking down 3 simple forms for you to do this work on your own. Healing our inner child, connecting with her and partnering with her in our lives, are one of the most profound aspects of inner work we can do to heal, breakthrough and transcend limiting beliefs, hardships and any unhealed elements in our lives and from our past that are impacting our present.   Melissa Kathryn emphasizes that this is some of the most profound work you can do in terms of your inner healing and understanding the depth of who you are. She shares her background on this topic through her study of psychology and self development, while coaching herself with some of the best of the best in these fields.” She begins by painting a visual from a movie, Four Christmases with Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn, which sets the stage to explore woundedness, coping mechanisms and relational triggers this holiday season.   Melissa shares the importance of healing from childhood situations that caused us to feel pain and sadness. If not, we will continue to relive those experiences and respond accordingly even as adults. The inner child will show up at different stages and ages during pivotal points of our life which will trigger those core wounding responses. She then explains why and how cultivating a relationship with your inner child will get to the root of negative thinking and repeat patterns. Melissa challenges you to journal (similarly to channeled writing), meditate or do a chair exercise as healing modalities to provide you with a deeper connection with yourself and to cultivate a relationship with your inner child beyond the subconscious level of the “fight or flight” response. As you do this, she invites you to identify patterns and discover the very first time you began to feel those primary feelings at a young age and were left to your own devices. Through identifying these primary limiting beliefs that are blocking you, understanding the feelings associated with that belief and letting it go, you will become whole and free. She then walks you through how each exercise works. In conclusion, Melissa explains how unhealed wounding manifests and that as you cultivate this connection while tackling limiting beliefs, you will open up the world to your healing, experience the depths of love in a greater capacity than you’ve ever known, and develop trust in yourself which will be powerful for you. Even though she was going through so many negative things, she was able to transcend her circumstances to experience unparalleled alignment with her highest self. In this episode of the wholeness podcast, Melissa Kathryn talks about breaking limiting belief systems within us that have been running the show for most of our lives, without us fully realizing we made decisions and take specific actions, guided from these specific beliefs...but are they real?    Most of us are unaware of the beliefs we have about ourselves, our gifts and what’s possible, which in turn affects how we show up in the world. Beliefs either hurt us or help us, which she perfectly explains by giving an example In her life, where she had the belief that she was “too much” to successful, too independent and too strong for the romantic relationship she ultimately had desired. Tune in to hear more about this topic and to be guided through the exact formula you can use today, to break free from any limiting beliefs that are currently running the show in your life, and Melissa will also guide you through how to create new, awesome beliefs that will support your goals, dreams and desires!    The first step is to be aware of the beliefs that are no longer serving you, then go through the process of deconstructing then reconstructing them to better serve you. This process can also be found in her blog and detailed in today’s episode.   First, Melissa explains to identify a belief that you would like to change, then ask yourself where it originated from, what was the earliest memory that cemented this as a belief for you. Then ask yourself -  whose voice it came from,meaning, was the belief driven from your internal thoughts or from a parent, teacher, sibling or friend?    We are a collection of words, stories and beliefs, our own perception of an experience.  Some stories and words are from those we care about most and became internalized for us. Melissa provides many examples of this in today’s episode to help you apply this to your own life.   Once you identified the origin of the belief, then we ask ourselves, is it our voice or someone else’s belief that we have taken on as our own. Melissa gave an example from her family, that happy people are married people with children.  That is a belief from her parents that became one for her that as she explained cast a negative tone on her life and all she had accomplished for many years until she realized it was not her belief, and from there she was able to create her own belief and one that brought her joy, not made her feel less than for not having experienced that in her life to date.    After that, you’re instructed to do the 5-5-5 breathwork created by Melissa, where you breathe in for five, suspend for five, then exhale for five counts for a minimum of two rounds and a maximum of ten. This process is so you can access the heart, which is proven to be a powerful access point to the subconscious mind, without conscious mind interference.  This will enable you to get to the source of the belief, then rewrite it as you would like it to be. This is a powerful and life-changing process.     Melissa is particularly passionate to address food beliefs, since the holiday season is around the corner and 99% of us have emotional response triggers associated with food and our families due to our lives and cultures. She urges us to take care of our bodies and not use the holidays as an excuse to let go of our goals and what makes us feel our best.    Eating right, exercising and above all self-love and gratitude should be the priority in our lives always. “Where there’s lack you will fill the gaps with X”.  X can be overspending, overeating, binging on TV or social media, overdrinking...you name it.  The X is the numbing agent we use to not look at what the driving force of our unhappiness or lack of fulfillment is derived from.     Melissa goes in depth about the process she created called the MK Method, which is the exact method she teaches in her signature program Weight Loss For Life.  Melissa explains that she had to really dive deep in her quest to be done with dieting, free from food, negative self-talk and emotional eating and had to look at the gaps in her own life and belief system within herself.   Since Melissa used food to cope with life and numb out - she knew inside that there was something greater calling her forward, more that she was meant for - this was overwhelming as was her fear of not being enough.    This lack in all of us stems from a place of fear, and from lack that existed in her life.  In turn, spiraling into self-sabotaging thought patterns and behaviors. By thinking about the life you want to have, you can start to envision yourself there and live into those good feeling thoughts.   The exercise that Melissa recommends on this topic is: write down your goal, think about what feelings you will have when you achieve the goal, sit with those feelings, and then either picture a memory or visualize what it would be like to feel that way. When this feeling overtakes your body, you have become a vibrational match for the feelings of achieving the goal and it is as if you have already completed it. All of a sudden, your dream or goal seems much more attainable and you are in a better space to make progress. Building on the principles Melissa Kathryn has imparted to her listeners over the past weeks and months, the time has come in the journey to talk about being in the present moment and listening to divine guidance. Both scenarios bring negative energy into the present moment, and keep you from experiencing your true power and living into the joy that is available to you right now.   Let go of the narratives that others have told you or you have told yourself about how things should be and make yourself a priority, releasing any guilt that you may feel for putting yourself first and realizing that you can’t pour from an empty cup. Choose and create your thoughts and realities and shape how other people will perceive you by believing the best about yourself and being a “yes” to life. A huge part of this process is giving yourself intentional space to seek divine guidance and hear what the universe wants to tell you.   Melissa challenges all of you to keep a journal by your bed and write down the questions that you have for the universe every night, then spend some time meditating on those questions every day and follow up with yourself by writing down the answers you receive. Several years ago, after listening to her intuition telling her to have her throat checked out, Melissa was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. She found that after the initial shock and anger dissipated, she was able to conquer cancer, grow her business, thrive in life, happier than she’d ever been.  Melissa expanded her positive outlook by coming back home to herself, to her truth, which is what she’s so committed to teaching all women. She saw firsthand the power of true mind, body connection and learned how to not only access a higher consciousness, but harness and trust in the guidance, shifting her perspective and invariably her life for the better.   No matter your struggle, Melissa wants you to know that you can be awakened NOW,  that you can be happy now, and that your current challenges are meant to build you up and become the greatest gifts in your life. During this episode of the Wholeness podcast, Melissa Kathryn continues the conversation from last week about being in your feminine by describing what it looks like to own your worth. Many women, like those at the recent Weight Loss for Life retreat, struggle to empower themselves to be who they are deep inside and be open to the intuitive guidance that is available to them. One of the clearest demonstrations of this is the inability of most women to recieve. For example to accept compliments without reciprocating.    As women, we have been brought up in the world to believe that we need to live into other people’s stories rather than writing our own, trying to fit into the boxes created by our parents or friends or role models, rather than fully embracing ourselves and standing in our worth and love.    Owning your worth and unapologetically knowing that you are more than enough exactly as you are, comes from establishing your own truth and being confident in who you are. The best way to get to the heart of your truth is to ask yourself these two questions: Who do I need to be to be happy now? What do I need to have in my life to be happy now?   Consider these questions in all aspects of your life and remove the harsh judgments that you might be prone to by instead approaching each day as if it is your last. With this perspective, you can choose to be happy and joyful without overanalyzing or obsessing over what you do not have.    The integration of faith into this mindset makes all the difference, helping you focus on something greater than yourself which will guide you to your highest joy and your best self.    Along this journey, it will be helpful to ground into your good feeling state. Think about a time when you felt the best in your life – the most worthy, the most loved, the most accepted, the most confident – and write down this experience. Refer back to it whenever you need to get grounded again in how you need to feel in order to cancel out negative thinking and unlock your light.   Melissa Kathryn then offers her description of the queen that all women should strive to be. The queen knows her worth and stands in it, dresses beautifully and exudes power, only eats nourishing food and always takes time for herself, uses her voice from her heart unapologetically, knows she is deserving of love, makes time for play and pleasure amidst her work, and she is mated with her own soul, whole and complete even without a partner. The queen confidently leads her kingdom because she is aligned and able to receive divine guidance to do so. Episode 6: What your cravings are REALLY telling you?

Have you ever thought about why you are craving certain foods? It must be something beyond just what your body needs and wants from a nutritional standpoint, right? In this episode of the Wholeness podcast, Melissa Kathryn reveals the true root causes for these cravings and how you can use them to heal, fulfill and take action on things you are truly craving in your life.  Your cravings, she explains are founded on unmet needs and desires and where there is an unmet need, the desire will find a way to get its needs met. Therefore, your cravings will persist until you take action on the underlying emotional need.   You will also learn in this episode, how you can use them as a clear channel for intuitive guidance and accept – rather than reject – yourself as you are.  Melissa explains there are two types of cravings we have and we all encounter both. These cravings are head and heart cravings, each craving has its own set of emotions, foods and actions they are wanting to be fulfilled.    Heart cravings stem from a lack of fulfillment in one or more areas of your life. These cravings of decadent foods such as carbs, cheese, chocolate, and ice cream are often accompanied by feelings of unworthiness or inadequacy. The root memories behind these heart cravings could be the way you felt accepted and loved during childhood or at a particular holiday or celebration when food was equated with love.    Head cravings are derived from anxiety, stress, overwhelm, frustration, guilt, or a lack of control in one or more areas of your life. You crave crunchy or chewy foods as a visible representation of the aspect of your life that you want to “chew” on before taking action. It can be helpful in these instances to do one thing at a time, perhaps using the pomodoro technique, shaking off the desire to continue procrastinating. It is alright to want a snack, but you should portion it out and then put the bag away.   The key four questions to ask yourself when having a head or heart craving are: Am I truly hungry right now? What is going on in my life right now? Is food going to solve the problem? Will it help me or hurt me? What can I do instead?   Notice what happens to your cravings after you ask yourself these questions and pursue the alternative action. Episode 5: Overcome Anxiety, Fear and Overwhelm

She is not recommending her teachings over taking your prescribed medications, nor is she claiming to be a healthcare provider or replace the need of one.   This episode of the Wholeness podcast provides you with a better understanding of your anxiety, fear, overwhelm, and other “negatively” perceived emotions, guiding and teaching you a specific exercise to tune in, receive guidance and diffuse the power these emotions have over you.    Melissa Kathryn believes that no one is born an anxious or fearful person, but becomes one through life experiences.  These experiences can be referred to as “trauma’s”. There being two types of traumas that are commonly experienced for all humans;  (big T) traumas and (little t) traumas occur in our lives from birth to adulthood. Often as children, our subconscious mind are still developing, and if a trauma occurs that is too big or painful for our mind to comprehend, we’re then not able to process it at the time and create a coping mechanism in our bodies, which can be referred to as anxiety, which stems from fear and overwhelm in the body. Anxiety, fear, overwhelm, and other negative emotions are the coping mechanisms set up by the brain to handle that situation and any similar future situations like it. It becomes a response mechanism one encounters when triggered by a similar feeling that stems from fear.     So while it is unpleasant and uncomfortable to feel these negative emotions, it is important first to acknowledge their purpose in your life and befriend them during the process of healing. Anxiety in particular is fixated on fear of the future, as well as past experiences, which stems from the fear that has been set up as a coping mechanism for events from the past. During these past traumas, you were forced to be very brave and take on more than you could handle, and it could be that you have never processed those events or allow yourself to feel the severity of them because you were in survival, protector mode, as the brain so beautifully does and is its main function.   Melissa Kathryn wants to walk you through the journey of listening to your anxiety and gaining freedom from it. Sitting with your feet flat on the floor and your palms up on your lap, practice deep breathing in a pattern of: inhale through your nose for a count of 5, suspend the breath for a count of 5, exhale through your mouth for a count of 5, and repeat for at least 5 cycles or as long as you need to. While deep breathing, tap your heart with your pointer and middle fingers and place your other hand where your anxiety lives in your body (belly, throat, chest, jaw, or elsewhere). Call on your anxiety and give it a color, then take note of what image you see, hear, or feel. Breathe into that feeling and ask your anxiety what messages it has for you, calling out any non-truths, and watching the color and image get smaller in your consciousness until the anxiety is diffused. Episode 4: Are you the Nurturer Archetype?

In this 4th and powerful episode, Melissa speaks to the Nurturer Archetype which is sure to speak to most women.  Characterized as the “People Pleaser”over-giver, extra nice and always available, dependable to a fault...this is what most women struggle with when making themselves a priority.  This episode will not only identify why this can be hard for the Nurturer but also, how to use her voice, get her needs met and know who she is, along with claiming what she wants.  Without this awareness and the steps provided in this episode, the Nurturer will continue to not have her needs met and be resentful of being depleted and not achieving the goals she sets for herself.   Settle into this episode of the Wholeness podcast and receive the truths that Melissa Kathryn will provide to you. The topic of this episode is the fourth and final archetype as described in Melissa Kathryn’s book, Eat Right For Your Archetype, and while it’s likely that everyone will identify a little bit with each archetype, there are certainly listeners who primarily identify with the archetype described on this episode: The Nurturer. Again there will always be a primary and a secondary that rule your sabotaging behaviours.     It’s important with this and other types of personality assessments to focus on elements of the description that resonate with you rather than finding your entire identity wrapped up in this characterization. Likewise, soak in the fact that among those who relate most strongly with the same archetype as you, there will be vast diversity when it comes to your dreams, desires, and life journeys.   The Nurturer archetype does things for others at a cost to herself, is focused on service, would be considered a giver who has difficulty receiving, struggles with asking for help, and feels guilty when she is taking care of herself. She deeply desires to be cared for, held, wanted, and needed, but she doesn’t know how to ask for these things. Her core belief is that she is not worthy because others are more important and by always trying to do or be more, she steals her own joy. A lot of mothers identify strongly with this archetype.   Melissa Kathryn’s mantra for Nurturers is “I choose me. I am deserving and worthy of my dreams and the goodness that surrounds me I now receive with ease.” She encourages Nurturers to identify your beliefs around each of your traits and consider how you are making yourself a priority. The goals for growth for Nurturers are to cultivate a relationship with yourself, to receive, to say no, and to set boundaries.   The first exercise for Nurturers is “Speak to Your Heart”. Sit comfortably in the morning with your eyes closed and practice deep breathing, then ask yourself what you really need and want by tapping your heart gently and saying “Heart – what is it that you need?” Be still and listen, breathing in for a count of 5, holding your breathe in for a count of 5, exhaling for a count of 5, and then holding your breathe out for a count of 5. Trust the guidance you receive and perhaps record what you get from these sessions in a journal. Tune in now!   In this episode of the Wholeness podcast, Melissa Kathryn guides you through the characteristics of the Rebel archetype and specific practices for embracing your inner Rebel, and her self-sabotaging tendencies as protection mechanisms meant to help you not hurt you. Melissa provides listeners with her insights about this and the other archetypes, reframing them to be assets rather than liabilities.    If you identify as a Rebel archetype, you may find that you live in extremes, swinging from working hard to playing hard with little balance, causing you to feel exhausted and rebel against all your hard earned success.  After you sabotage your success whether in overeating or overspending for example, shame and guilt then cause a downward spiral followed by an even harsher regiment of a restricted life, which builds seeds of rebellion and start they cycle all over again.     Rebels often feel like they are not worthy and they struggle with follow-through and commitment, often because the thing they have “committed” to is not really what they want to be doing. As a Rebel, your core desire is harmony and peace - deep love with yourself and then others.   The roots of this archetype began during your childhood if one of your parents or authority figures set specific standards or expectations and left little room for personal growth or self-expression. Even as an adult, you feel torn between what you’ve been conditioned to do and what you want to do, seeing one option as devoid of pleasure and the other as gluttonous. This self-sabotage can take the form of the fear of failure or of unfulfilled approval.   Melissa Kathryn offers several recommendations and exercises to support you through shifting from a Rebel who sabotages yourself to using this archetype to your advantage and view the rebellion as beautiful insight and specific guidance toward your path to your highest self and most joy in this life.    Additionally, she provides two exercises for Rebels to walk through on their own or with their coach:   Exercise 1: Write down 3 aspects of your life where you feel unbalanced or unfulfilled.  Ask yourself these questions:  What is it that I really want to happen? What would make me happy?  Why have I not taken any action yet?  What am I afraid will happen if I take action?   Exercise 2: Write down the areas of your life where you are living in extremes.  Ask yourself: How does this make me feel? What am I getting from this? Am I ready to let that go? Remember that you are in the driver’s seat. Trust your inner guidance. Recognize the rules you are placing on yourself and ask if they are rules you want to have. Reduce your goals by 30% to decrease burnout. Think about who you are and why you rebel. Compete with yourself when it comes to balance and follow-through. Accept yourself and embrace the gift of your uniqueness. The topic of this episode of the Wholeness podcast is the Perfectionist archetype. As someone who identifies herself as a Recovering Perfectionist, Melissa Kathryn reaches down deep to describe what Perfectionists constantly struggle with, how they appear compared to how they feel inside, and the impacts of these behaviors on their identities and ability (or inability) to access their higher self, their ideal weight and the lives they truly want.   It’s important to remember the power of the subconscious mind in your everyday life as well as the deep roots of the beliefs held there from traumas or Traumas in your childhood. If you’re a Perfectionist, feeling like you’ve always had to look put together, that everything should be in its place, that you cannot show any weakness or emotion, that nothing you ever do is good enough, and that no one can ever meet your high expectations, there usually  has been some situation or circumstance in your childhood that cemented those limiting beliefs within you.    And because of the way the subconscious mind works, you likely never realized or recognized this connection between behaviors and beliefs and how that’s actually been the driver behind sabotaging your happiness and results in life.  The foundation of fear is not serving you well and it’s keeping you from the amazing things that are meant for your life.   In this episode, Melissa guides you through powerful exercises you can do today and provides specific guidance for how to break free and live your best life, on your terms!   Perfectionists can find freedom from the need to struggle by expressing love for their body as well as journaling - specific examples of this are provided. On this episode of the Wholeness podcast, Melissa Kathryn talks about the function of the four archetypes and describes what it looks like to be an Avoider. In order to make real and lasting change in any one area of your life, you ultimately must identify who you want to be and the actions and beliefs that go along with that identity. When you make this mental shift, your body is empowered to make positive changes that spread from that focus area of your life into all aspects of your existence.   Melissa Kathryn created the archetypes as a way of describing the four main ways that we self-sabotage and how understanding our tendencies can help us overcome and surpass expectations. Self-sabotage is when part of your personality acts in conflict with another part of your personality. It is likely that each person will identify with several of the archetypes, but one will be predominantly descriptive of their current self-sabotage beliefs.   The Avoider Archetype is characterized by talking about needing to make a change (like starting a diet) but never actually taking the necessary steps to get there, making excuses, dwelling on past regrets or failures, not trying, not trusting herself, not believing that what she wants is possible, fear of vulnerability, and truly desiring to be loved and validated. The key mantra for the Avoider is “I love and accept myself exactly as I am.” In order to start making positive changes, the Avoider is to get real about what they want and evaluate the steps they are taking to reach those goals. It is possible that they don’t genuinely want some of the things they say are their goals, which is why they are so resistant to taking the necessary steps.   Melissa Kathryn discusses where all of these thoughts and limiting beliefs originate and how things in the past hold the Avoider back from becoming who they really want to be. It is important for the Avoider to be cautious of their thoughts and actions because they are prone to becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy. Melissa shares the following: Like many young women, Melissa remembers looking in the mirror, not liking what she saw, and attributing all of her problems to her weight. Emotional eating was the result as she became sensitive and over-reactive to body image issues. Melissa had an unhealthy relationship with her body and became a chronic dieter after college. Ten years later, she swung the other direction, becoming a nutritionist and doing fitness competitions. Six months later, however, she was back to her old, unhealthy habits! What was the problem? Melissa realized that she was “programmed to fail,” and didn’t think she was worthy of a healthy body. Melissa created a “One-Stop Shop” for women, encompassing nutrition, fitness, mindset, and lifestyle. How do we program ourselves for sustainable change in health? Build up self-care and love to stop sabotaging ourselves. Struggle IS our comfort zone! It’s what we know! Don’t live in the past with blame and regret. Recognize the connection and break FREE! Melissa shares and explains  her four archetypes at the root of who we are: The Avoider-“What I want isn’t possible.” The Sabotager-“I’m always going to be small and can’t reach higher.” The Perfectionist-“I’m not enough.” The Rebel-“It’s ALL or NOTHING.” Even though you may identify with all the archetypes, one will usually stand out to each person and help you understand your problems. To “fix” the problem, you work backwards to the ROOT. You weren’t always this way, so what event or influence caused it? You can take actions to shift your mind; the first action step is to become your biggest advocate and best friend. Melissa says a Self-Care Routine is essential. Learn the benefits of “mirror work” and incorporating more play and pleasure into life! “Where there is lack, you will fill the void with food, so figure out where the lack is.” Replace food with fun. Make a pleasure list of long and short-term things you want to do. “The more alive you feel, the less you want food as your sole love.” “If it’s not attainable and not sustainable, then it’s not maintainable.” Are you eating when you’re hungry? Are you stopping when you’re full? Are you eating out of boredom? Do you NEED all the food on your plate? Melissa discusses how to interpret the answers to these questions and more! Start with small changes. If you don’t work out, then begin with two days/week. You have to trust your body and learn to listen to it! Cravings are usually not from hunger. What do they mean?
