War is a horror – so how has Christianity, in its classical tradition, approached the human reality of war? Can it ever be justified on spiritual grounds? We looked at these questions in episode 55, ‘Just War', back in 2021 - and given recent events, we thought now was a good time to revisit that episode.

What if the version of the Old Testament most commonly quoted by the New Testament writers is one that most Christians have never read? In this study, we explore the Septuagint (LXX)—the ancient Greek translation of the Hebrew Scriptures that was widely used throughout the world of Jesus, the Apostles, and the early Church. You'll discover how the Septuagint came to be, why it became so influential, and several places where Jesus appears to quote directly from it. We'll also discuss common objections, the relationship between the Septuagint and the Hebrew Bible, the Apocrypha, and practical ways you can begin reading the LXX for yourself.Whether you're interested in biblical history, textual studies, Bible translations, or the world of the New Testament, this video will help you better understand the Scriptures that shaped the language and thought of the Apostolic era.

In this episode I talk with Dr. Carl-Magnus Carlstein, lecturer on Biblical Studies at Linkoping University, Sweden, about the contribution he contributed with co-author Rebekah Eklund in New Testament Ethics, out now on Eerdmans, which explores the ethics of possessions and wealth in the New Testament. We discuss the often-neglected topic of possessions, why many Christians are uncomfortable with this topic, and why it is so significant to the New Testament. Carl explains why Luke has a unique take on this subject, how Christians tend to emphasize either radical renunciation or charity as the models for thinking about the ethics of wealth, and how Jesus is more concerned with intentions, moral formation, and the heart. We then look at four passages in Luke's gospel which address the issue of wealth and possessions, show how in case after case Jesus is concerned with the disposition of those who possess wealth and how we must be transformed to use wealth properly. Finally, we discuss how the church can implement this vision today and cultivate healthy, God-honoring motivations towards what we possess.  Media Referenced:New Testament Ethics: https://a.co/d/02cjLNETDr. Carlstein: https://liu.se/en/employee/carca26Dr. Eklund: https://www.loyola.edu/academics/theology/faculty/directory/eklund-rebekah.htmlEpisode on Barclay, Wealth, and the New Testament: https://libertarianchristians.com/episode/ep-260-wealth-and-the-new-testament-a-response-to-john-barclay/  The Protestant Libertarian Podcast is a project of the Libertarian Christian Institute and a part of the Christians For Liberty Network. We are diving into another insightful Summer Forecast episode with Dr. Dennis R. Edwards. In our conversation, Dr. Edwards shares insights from his life in pastoral ministry and biblical studies, particularly as we navigate race and ethnicity. Dennis argues that understanding social location is so important as we assess our own culturally-influenced interpretation of biblical texts and theology. While the Bible acknowledges human diversity, he contends that it does not support racial superiority. Drawing on Philippians 2, Dr. Edwards repeatedly calls us back to humility, love, and reconciliation, which transcends racial and ethnic lines, and invites the powerful to relinquish their position so others may be elevated. To learn more from him, consider joining us at Regent this summer for A Biblical Theology of Race and Ethnicity (July 13-17).Dennis's BioRev. Dr. Dennis R. Just as those miners couldn't save themselves and needed help from the surface, we need divine intervention in our lives. In John 20, Jesus gave His disciples three powerful keys to freedom: peace that overcomes fear, purpose that transforms failure, and power that strengthens weakness. When we feel forgotten or stuck, we must remember that someone above is working on our behalf, ready to lift us to freedom through faith.

Theologian and historian Dr. Martin Erdmann explores the concept of Orwellian perpetual war in the modern era. Drawing on the works of George Orwell and historian Harry Elmer Barnes, Erdmann argues that contemporary conflicts like the war in Ukraine are often “phony wars” designed for domestic control rather than military victory. The discussion suggests that global elites use these manufactured tensions to consolidate power, build up technocratic defense industries, and forestall economic collapses through national debt. Erdmann interprets the rise of multipolarity and regional blocs—such as the European Union and Eurasian Union—as strategic steps toward a unified world federation. Ultimately, the conversation frames these geopolitical shifts within a biblical worldview, asserting that the global movement toward a single world government and currency aligns with prophetic history. King David is one of the most familiar figures in the Bible. Most people know him as the shepherd boy, the Psalmist and the underdog who steps up to defeat Goliath. But is this only one side to a much darker story? To find out, Helen and Lloyd take a trip in the Biblical Time Machine with Professor David Shepherd, who argues that David is not only a man of war, but a 'man of blood.' David J. Shepherd is Professor in Hebrew Bible/Old Testament at Trinity College Dublin and founding director of the Trinity Centre for Biblical Studies. April 24, 2026 - Equipped 2026 - Day 2 - 9:00 AM Session   This episode features guest speaker Caleb Colley, a scholar with degrees in Communication, Biblical Studies, New Testament, Humanities, and a Ph.D. in Philosophy. A longtime teacher in graduate theology and philosophy programs, he joins the conference to lead a chapter-by-chapter walk through Genesis, focusing here on Creation and the Fall (Genesis 1–3). The talk examines contemporary pressures on young Christians who face conflicting messages from church and school—between a literal six-day creation, naturalistic evolution, and theistic evolution (the view that God used evolution as His method). Caleb outlines the three common responses and explains why he argues theistic evolution is incompatible with the New Testament. Central to the episode is a sustained New Testament case: twelve facts and theological connections (drawn from Jesus, Paul, Peter, Luke, Hebrews, and Jude) that the speaker contends cannot be true if Genesis 1–3 are read non‑literally. Highlights include arguments that Adam and Eve were literal first humans, the first woman was formed from the man, Adam is the representative progenitor of all humans, the formation of Adam from dust, the serpent's real deception of Eve, the historicity of Abel, Cain, and Noah, and the theological necessity of God's rest and the flood for NT teaching. The episode also explores the fall itself: the clarity of God's revelation to Adam and Eve, the devil's calculated temptation, the step‑by‑step progression into sin, Adam's failure of leadership, the fracturing of relationships with God and one another, and God's merciful provision (animal sacrifice and the proto‑evangelium in Genesis 3:15) that foreshadows Christ's defeat of the serpent. Throughout, the speaker connects Genesis to key New Testament doctrines—original sin, Christ as the new Adam, baptism and the ark, typologies between flood and final judgment, and the practical moral consequences for marriage, gender roles, and human identity. Listeners should expect a vigorous theological defense of a literal reading of Genesis 1–3 and clear tracing of how that reading shapes New Testament interpretation and Christian doctrine. This episode is recommended for pastors, students, and listeners interested in biblical theology, creation‑care debates, apologetics, and the pastoral implications of how Genesis is interpreted.   Duration 41:55

Paul wasn't just helping people get to heaven. Nijay Gupta joins me to make the case that Paul's letters were written for people trying to figure out how to live, not how to escape. Drawing from his new book Paul for the World, Nijay walks through the Greco-Roman world Paul was writing into - its economic disparity, its philosophies, its hunger for meaning - and shows how we can see our world similarly. The conversation moves through economics, the arts, the Stoics, and the resurrection to land on a grounded, new creation vision of the Christian life. This is a conversation about meaning, hope, and what it looks like to be fully alive in the world God hasn't given up on.Nijay K. Gupta (PhD, Durham University) is Julius R. Send us Fan MailWhat on earth are we to do with the troubling passages we come across in scripture? The Old Testament is especially rife with narratives and sentences that can make God sound cruel and unloving at times. I asked Dr. Sandra Richter, the Robert H. Gundry Chair of Biblical Studies at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, CA to discuss how sincere biblical readers can approach difficult passages with openness, curiosity, and faithfulness. DR. SANDRA RICHTER is the Robert H. Gundry Chair of Biblical Studies at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California. She holds a Master's Degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and her PhD in Hebrew Bible from Harvard University's Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations Department. She has taught at Asbury Theological Seminary, Wesley Biblical Seminary, and Wheaton College, and is a veteran of many years of leading student groups in field archaeology and historical geography in Israel. Her ambition? To make the real people and places of the Old Testament come alive for her students. She is recognized in the Church for her book, The Epic of Eden: A Christian Entry into the Old Testament (IVP Academic), and the Epic of Eden adult Bible Study series that has grown from that project. In the academy, she is known for her work in Deuteronomy and the Deuteronomistic History and the role of Mt. Ebal in the history of Israelite religion. She is also deeply invested in environmental theology (see Stewards of Eden), often addressing both lay and academic audiences on the topic. Undeceptions with John Dickson

Wes Huff has made the historical case for Christianity to an audience of millions on some of the biggest podcasts in the world, including the Joe Rogan Experience and Diary of a CEO. It's fair to say he's having a bit of a moment. But is all this big-name podcast interest in Christianity evidence of something deeper? Is Christianity itself having more than just a moment?FOR FULL SHOW NOTES - CLICK HERECREDITSUndeceptions is hosted by John Dickson, produced by Kaley Payne and directed by Mark Hadley.  Alasdair Belling is a writer-researcher. Siobhan McGuiness is our online librarian.  Lyndie Leviston remains my wonderful assistant.  Santino Dimarco is Chief Finance and Operations Consultant.  Peter Kozushko is our North American representative. Editing by Richard Hamwi. Our voice actor today was Yannick Lawry.  Special thanks to our series sponsor Zondervan for making this Undeception possible.  Undeceptions is the flagship podcast of Undeceptions.com - letting the truth out.

Sunday Service (4/12/26) // Revelation 15:1-8 (ESV) // The Seven Angels with Seven Plagues // 15 Then I saw another sign in heaven, great and amazing, seven angels with seven plagues, which are the last, for with them the wrath of God is finished.2 And I saw what appeared to be a sea of glass mingled with fire—and also those who had conquered the beast and its image and the number of its name, standing beside the sea of glass with harps of God in their hands. 3 And they sing the song of Moses, the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying,“Great and amazing are your deeds, O Lord God the Almighty!Just and true are your ways, O King of the nations![a]4 Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship you,for your righteous acts have been revealed.”5 After this I looked, and the sanctuary of the tent[b] of witness in heaven was opened, 6 and out of the sanctuary came the seven angels with the seven plagues, clothed in pure, bright linen, with golden sashes around their chests. 7 And one of the four living creatures gave to the seven angels seven golden bowls full of the wrath of God who lives forever and ever, 8 and the sanctuary was filled with smoke from the glory of God and from his power, and no one could enter the sanctuary until the seven plagues of the seven angels were finished.Footnotesa. The Oxford English Dictionary describes the Bible as a “library,” not a single work. But this library has been the most sold book in the world for millennia! So should we call this ultimate best-seller “literature”?There are many ways to read the Bible. But reading it as literature may help us see something easily missed: the Bible isn't just a collection of texts any more than a symphony is just a collection of notes. The literary approach asks a simple question: how might the Bible's story work on us?FOR FULL SHOW NOTES - CLICK HERECREDITSUndeceptions is hosted by John Dickson, produced by Kaley Payne and directed by Mark Hadley. Our voice actors today were Yannick Lawry and Dakotah Love.  Special thanks to our series sponsor Zondervan for making this Undeception possible.  Undeceptions is the flagship podcast of Undeceptions.com - letting the truth out.
